Good morning everyone. Today’s training called for a tempo run. I warmed up by walking 5 minutes. Then I did 10 minutes conversational pace. Then 10 minutes tempo speed (for me it was not so fast but I tried my hardest to speed up a little). Then 10 minutes back to conversational pace. Ended with a 5 minute walk cool down. My left hip is bothering me a bit. I notice it most when I get out of the car (which sits low). I think I am going to invest in foam roller to help.

I’m not going to reach my guessamated run miles this month. Now that I have a training plan I know the estimated amount for September to shot for.
Tomorrow’s training is cross training which for me is brisk walking. Hope you all have a happy running day. 😁6 -

That is super convenient and a nice place to run!1 -

I think I would lose my tiny mind stopping a run at 3.07! The OCD would just kill me.1 -

It evens out with the 4.93 a few days earlier
Haha, seriously, I've been known to go past my house and up a hill to get to the next kilometer when it's that close. Usually it doesn't bother me though.3 -

Thanks @scott6255, @themrwobbly and @teresa502. I still do yoga regularly and I have been doing more 'hip' yoga the last few days. I hope that resting it will do the trick. It does seem to be improving.

Different day. Same exercise. Just didn't have time for more since I worked until 5:40 today. At least I'm getting in a good fast walk - 3.9 mph. Tomorrow is looking like a very busy one too. I hope I can get in a little bit of a run, but that may not happen. Life certainly is keeping me from making my goal for the month.5 -
Hot again. Heat index was 112 when we set out and dropped to only 104 by the time we finished!
5 miles trails. Needed someplace shady because of the heat so we went to WC Johnson which is all woods. Doing the same trudge around the loop we have done so often seemed really boring so we did one of the primitive trails first, then picked up the other trail. The primitive trail is basically a deer track - in fact I think it is a deer track, but recently the park service cut some large trees which had fallen and put blazes back there, so it sort of resembles a human trail now. 😝 according to Strava heat map we are about the only people who run back there. I can’t tell if it’s because all the switchbacks don’t pick up well on GPS or what, but every time we run it, we run what feels like our usual “easy, but on unfamiliar trails with lots of dips and roots” pace, which is normally about 12 or 13 minute miles, and strava gives us 15 minute miles - which isn’t really possible, that’s a walking pace, and I know we are going faster than a walk! Anyway it was a good thing to run a more technical trail today, helped us to slow down and beat the heat.
We walked twoish miles as a cool down and I picked up assorted hickory nuts to see what sort of trees are back there. Basically any nut that looked different from the ones I had picked up already. I ended up with about ten different nuts with the husk still on, one is definitely a black walnut, one is a mockernut, one is bitter hickory, and there’s a pecan. The other ones I am going to look up tomorrow. Also, there’s an oak tree right at the steps to the boardwalk which has the largest acorns I have ever seen in my life. They’re ping pong ball sized, it’s absurd. The oak itself looks like a normal red oak tree, big and old, but otherwise not notable.7 -

I was so close to that 6 mile mark! Ah well, next time. Been reading and liking the thread and hurriedly getting ready for school to start. I felt like my run went really well today, but I'm thankful that nobody could see me when I got dive bombed by a cicada. I almost screamed, but didn't - just flailed my arms all around for a few seconds and I'm sure looked pretty crazy.7 -

Mostly cloudy, upper 60s F, and no breeze humidity today. Hadn't done my usual 7k in almost 2 weeks, so I decided today would be the day, even if I went slow.
Checked on my September race, and they said it was still a go for an in person event. However, if the numbers keep going up the way they have been going up, I suspect it will go virtual. As a back of the pack runner, I'm probably more vulnerable than a front of the pack runner.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

@penguinmama87 I’ve definitely done the crazy arm waving, got a bug in my face dance and wondered if people driving by thought I was nuts!
@Tramboman It’s such a bummer that we are back to having races go virtual. After last season of that, I was really looking forward to a normal-ish return to racing. I still have faith that my Nov race will be ok, but maybe with more precautions in place than originally planned. It almost feels silly to be hopeful at this point.
Re: running to a nice, round number. I also finish off tenths of a mile. I didn’t used to. I noticed that when I stopped at the same place every day, I could feel my body start to wind down in the last couple tenths, like it knew where the end was. I started rounding off tenths because it altered my finish line just a little and it seemed to help with that feeling of the finish line is right there, shut it down! It also makes math easier.4 -

I ran last night after work and waiting for the sun to set. I was rewarded with slightly cooler temps (upper 80’s) and a light intermittent rain. Then 11 hrs later, I went out for my usual morning run. Man, my legs were so tired. Last night I ran 4 miles and only 3 this morning, but I don’t usually do runs that close together. It is amazing the difference another 12 hrs or so makes for recovery, even at shorter distances. Today I ran the trail and saw my trail friend and his dog. Humidity and heat were pretty much back to normal but the sunrise was pretty with all the clouds still hanging on from the storm last night.6 -
7 miles this morning. Nothing really noteworthy. My allergies are making my skin and nose itch like crazy especially while running.

Speaking of going back to virtual races, I just learned that my September race which was going to be my first in person race since Covid has been indefinitely postponed. Since my husband and I had already discussed that we needed to go virtual with it due to high caseload, and we weren’t properly trained anyway due to the heat, it’s nothing but a relief to us. But I am still sad that we aren’t over this yet. I also learned that the child of my mother’s housekeeper’s friend died due to Covid. He made the national news because he was only 16 and fully vaxxed. Had asthma and was overweight, but also a football player and basically an active healthy kid until the day he wasn’t. Mom was a nurse and they don’t know if she brought it home to him or if he caught it at school.
Anyway this is too real for me, y’all keep being careful, okay?7 -

Mad, mad, mad week here.
- Lockdown level 4, means everyone’s home - yay homeschooling, yay mess.
- Magazine deadline Friday, then in design this week, and a monster 104 page edition to boot.
- House auction scheduled for today, went ahead as an online event. We sold!!!
- Lots of gentle runs, six days in a row, culminating with 800m repeats today to make sure I’ve earned my rest day (and champagne and pizza).
Next week promises to be much more gentle and way less stressy!
Yay for sale despite lockdown2 -
@kgirlhart I hope a couple of days of rest is all that your hip needed to feel better!
@ContraryMaryMary Yeah for selling your house. That's fantastic. Sorry for the stress, but glad it should be short lived. Nice job on the running.
Nice run @Scott6255 . Glad the pain is gone.
Great running in the humidity @Teresa502 !

Didn't have time to run again, so walked a mile on the driveway tonight. I helped my friend try to take his car to get worked on - wasn't able to leave it because the mechanic was short staffed and they wouldn't have time to do it today. Came home and dropped my car off and he took me back to my mechanic to pick up my truck which is fixed.
I made some phone calls about by cousin.. found out that I need to wait until I get a letter that actually says he is losing his coverage and then appeal. The letter I got said that he may lose it and they needed the answer to a set of questions first. Still plan to work on a trust cause I'm sure he will need it.
The husband of a good friend of mine had a stroke a couple of weeks ago. He has been in rehab and they were getting to come home today - he still can't walk. They only have vehicles that are high profile, so needed a car that he could get into. So, I drove up after I got off of the phone to help get him home. My friend left her purse in my car. It wasn't noticed until I got home, so I had to drive back to their house to get it to her. So, I was in the car most of the day.
I didn't have the energy or the motivation to do anything other than a walk today.8 -
Different kind of challenge today. After my 60 min aerobic run we dressed the living room and family in red (the girls house colour) for an online lockdown competition for school.
Result in the spoiler. Can I also say, this is almost every red item we own - not a popular colour in our house (except for shoes - I have a lot of red shoes!) Fortunately, the one feature wall in our house is red, very helpful.12 -

Sunny, upper 60s F, and humid with no breeze yet again today. Left hip and hamstring grumbled throughout the run. The aspens are starting to drop their leaves and I saw my first orb weaver spiders today. The front page story in our local newspaper said that even Ohio's deer have contracted Covid.

I'm still here, but not got much time to run, so squeezing training in where I can. So many posts to catch up on! Hope everyone is well.
First run this week - 11.4 miles, trail run with 1,380 feet of elevation, average pace 10:28 min per mile.
Legs felt heavy the whole time. But I'm putting it down to not having done any Rebounding sessions this week and it makes a big difference. So, I'll do a recovery rebounding session this evening as hope to run another 10+ miles tomorrow to get used to running back to back with tired legs.
My Ultra Marathon is a fortnight today, so last weeks 20 mile run is my longest until race day.
I may make my milage goal this month but it's not looking like I'll reach 10,000 feet of elevation.
August cumulative:
83.4/100 miles
7,436/10,000 feet of elevation

Great picture @ContraryMaryMary!
Sorry you aren't feeling any improvement @TheMrWobbly 😩
12 miles this morning. Ugh, soooo freaking humid, and I always forget how hilly this trail is. Lots of short, steep hills. HR stayed in Zone 4 82% of the time. Just couldn't do the last planned mile.

Husband was working today, so I had to get up earlier than I wanted to, to get my run in. Had time for about 14k, and that's what I needed to get my 40 for the week, so that's what I did.
It was uneventful, probably because I stayed out of the woods, haha.
August goal - 100 miles DONE! ✅
(might also meet my stretch goal - 185k)
"40 weeks of 40K" - 35 Weeks DONE! / 9 weeks left to complete the challenge!
Upcoming races:
September 18 - Bytom HM (Silesia Half Marathon Crown #2/4)
October 10 - HM around Żywiec lake (SHMC #3/4)
Waiting for a date for SHMC #4/4 - October?13 -
The aspens are starting to drop their leaves and I saw my first orb weaver spiders today.
We saw several of these on the property at our hill country house. They are pretty but HUGE! We did some googling to reassure ourselves that they weren't going to devour us in our sleep.12 miles this morning. Ugh, soooo freaking humid... Just couldn't do the last planned mile.
So over the humidity!8 -

The ones I saw were tiny, so I wasn't scared of them at all.3 -
Maybe I'm seeing a different spider. These are 2-3 inches.

That’s my favorite spider! That’s some kind of Argiope, colloquially known as “writing spiders” because of the zig zag stays at the center of their webs. We used to get them in the hayloft at the barn where I grew up, and the older kids would tell the younger ones that if the spider sees your teeth, it will write your name in its web and then you die! A great folk tale to scare little children into keeping their mouths shut. I vividly remember squeezing my lips together while passing their giant webs.
Folk tales aside, they won’t hurt you. They are barely venomous and so mild mannered that you can pick them up.4
