Yesterday I ran a mile on the treadmill as part of my morning workout. I had a track club meeting at 6:00 at a local park so I ran a couple of miles before the meeting. It was hot so I took it slow. This morning I met four other friends and we ran a little over 5 miles.
Happy run-aversary @Rheddmobile and congrats on your beating your 5k race goal!
@katharmonic – You are one tough cookie! I love the smile on your face in those pictures!

4.5 easy miles on the RTP trails at 12:05 average pace, collecting cobwebs along the way.
My goal right now is more about time on my feet than mileage. As the aerobic base increases, the mileage will increase organically as easy pace gets naturally faster. Today's goal was 50 to 60 minutes and I came in at 54:42.
Right around 5 hours a week seems to be the right amount of volume for right now, so that's what I'll shoot for.
52.8 out of 100 for the month.8 -

We did fine - thanks for checking on me. It was super windy but our area didn't get a crazy amount of rain and our power stayed on. Yay!5 -
@julieannegannon great news about your hip! Hope it feels better soon.
@rheddmobile nice race! It's cool that you got a little in person feel with that other race going at the park. I love the race day excitement! Love the nails, btw.
@Scott6255 Good job getting your run in despite all the dying batteries.
@katharmonic You do look really happy about hauling sandbags! They got some good pics.
@CarsonSurfs Ah, the cobwebs to the face. My least favorite part of trail running.2 -
Happy belated runniversary @rheddmobile
I was worried about both my kids down in Houston, but they faired OK. Glad you are OK too @martaindale!!
Great pictures @katharmonic!!4 -
7 miles this morning. I was tired (not sleeping well) but pushed through. Slowly. Very slowly. But it's done.

10k in the rain yesterday - we decided that we need more hills so we did the hilly bits of Shelby Farms. It was supposed to rain, then it was supposed to be clear, then it rained anyway! But sort of a nice soft rain mostly, although it was pouring on the drive over.
There was what looked like a middle school cross country track meet going on, with a terrifying lack of regard for social distancing and no masks anywhere. Thousands of spectators and parents shoulder to shoulder on the asphalt trails. So we headed off into the grass and swung wide of them through the middle of a field. Considering that Tennessee is right now top of the WORLD for cases per capita it wasn’t a crowd I wanted to be in the middle of. It did give me envy for youth though! Some of the more athletic kids were sauntering around various parts of the park at speeds I can’t even imagine.
@quilteryoyo re: the scheduling two events at the park. Our event was originally scheduled for Saturday and the other one for Sunday morning - we stayed up late Saturday and ran the virtual race Sunday as soon as the park opened, without realizing there was an overlap.
@skippygirlsmom re: curfew at the park. Although Memphis has a curfew at almost every park, this one in particular makes some sense since it was originally part of the Penal Farm and is still adjacent to it. It’s rare that anyone attempts to escape a minimum security prison, but it has happened in the past. When I was in college it used to be a common hazing to dare pledges to break into the Penal Farm and tip cattle, which was scarier than usual cattle tipping since their “cattle” were Texas longhorns, plus a herd of bison! No one ever got gored or arrested, but some had to run from prison guards!
4 -
Nice running everyone. Glad you talked to your allergist and you have a new plan of attack. I hope it works.
@rheddmobile I wouldn't have wanted to be in that crowd either. I see large gatherings of people and cringe too. I just don't understand. That makes sense about the two races. I was thinking they were scheduled at the same date and time. Haha about the cattle tipping hazing. Can you tip bison?1 -

Ha, I was having fun in general but that particular moment was definitely a grin and bear it situation. The photographer noticed that I put on a big smile though and told me I was doing a great job. That was sweet. Most people were not loving this section.
Thanks again all!

HM/marathon group tonight was the dreaded 50-minute tempo run. It had rained and thunderstormed much of the day and was still raining a bit when I left home, so everything about this sounded bad. But the rain stopped almost immediately after I got there. I was not feeling optimistic about doing 50 minutes, so I told myself I could stop after 30 because I really should get home anyway to get some work done. The first 15 minutes were eternal but then it seemed to go by more quickly. I certainly was not at a great speed for tempo, but slightly faster than I would run a regular base run. After I made it past 30 minutes I figured I could do 40. And then why not just do the 50. So I did. and then I was not going to do the sprints and the cooldown. But I did. This is why I go to group, because on my own I'd just stop, but in the group I feel compelled to do it in the end and I'm always happy that I did.
So, i guess that was also my longest run of the month so far. I'm going to have to do something about that this weekend.7 -

I had a great run this morning. The plan called for 3 miles at HM pace so in 28 minutes at 9:19. I managed to run 3.1 miles in 29 minutes at an average pace of 9:29. It was only 66°F, but 100% humidity. I finished my run at the park, so I ran another mile as a cool down so I ended up with 4 miles today.

@rheddmobile yay for running in the rain
@katharmonic great job on your tempo run!
@kgirlhart nice run in 100% humidity.
7 miles this morning. Felt better today. Kind of did a little speed work to get ready for Sunday's 10K, which will be a good gauge for the 15K race in 4 weeks. But pace is over a minute / mile slower than my goal. So don't think I can make that up in a month. Oh well, it is what it is.

@WhatMeRunning I recommend finding an Intro to Yoga class, or or one specifically targeted to beginners. The nice thing about this Intro to Yoga class is that it's all about what to expect and explores different aspects so you can take the next step with confidence. The first class all we did was to work on the various warm up exercises, which turned to be excellent stretches.
@katharmonic those photos are awesome! Love the socks! and your group run...it's amazing what a bit of peer pressure will do.
@swenson19d I agree with @polskagirl01 , you won't regret going out for a walk.
@CarsonSurfs welcome back! You must have left the group before I got on it in mid 2015, or my memory is bad.
@julieannegannon it's so nice to have a doctor you have faith in. Makes all the difference.
@rheddmobile nice race report and happy runniversary !1 -
Race #2 of my 4 race series went very well. My pace the first race was 11 minute miles. This time I ran 10 minute miles, shaving over 4 minutes off the 4.2 miles. Not only that but I felt MUCH better during the run. I felt so good early, that I went out too fast. I ran the first two hills I hiked the last time and it wore me out such that I had to hike more hills later on. Part of my problem was that I saw my heart rate was getting up past 162 and I was thinking that was my typical HR for a 5K. I didn't want to push that hard so I would walk to get it back down in the 150s. It wasn't until after the race that I realized I had it wrong. 162 is my typical HR for a HM. My typical 5K HR is about 178 I think. DOH!!! That explains why I had such a strong kick at the end, with my last 0.2 miles at a 8 minute pace.
Before the race I was futzing with my running belt and that older gal (I found out she's 64, so 10 years older than me) I was running with the last time, who came in just ahead of me, came over and wished me a good race. We had a good conversation it gave me a great mental lift since she's such a positive person. I found out she has a running coach and the coach told her not to focus on getting a PR this time, but on running form.
I knew I beat her this race so after I grabbed my post-race beer I went back to the finish line to cheer her in. She came in with another PR as I was yelling madly. The big smile on her face was priceless. I told her she was going to be in trouble with her coach and she just laughed. Positive people are awesome. She then realized that I came in ahead of her, congratulated me and said with a smile, "You wait until the next race, I'll beat you again!"
The next two races will be shorter since sunset is coming sooner. I think it goes from 4.2 miles to 3.2 miles. I hope to knock another minute off my pace by the second race, since recovery is going so well.
With my warmup, it was 5 miles for the day and I'm at 43/80 for September.11 -

About halfway to my goal at about halfway through the month. Looks like everything is on track.
Easy 3 miles this morning. The weather is on the cooler side of usual for this time of year today (72F) but will be cooling off a bit more headed into the weekend. I'm super excited about getting some runs in the upper 60's!
I'm headed up to the hill country after work today so I get to run there for my next 2! I have a spot I want to try out for one of my runs and I may do a bit of exploring for the second one too. We'll see.6 -
@7lenny7 Math of any kind while running is terribly hard and almost certainly wrong!! That woman sounds like a delight. I need her to be my running cheerleader!3

9 seconds shy of 49 minutes on the RTP trails today (4.1 miles@12:04 average pace). Still in the low 70s here in the morning, but being in the woods makes a tremendous difference. I am so looking forward to fall early morning runs in the 50s.

Today the plan called for 6 miles in 1 hr 1 min at 10:12 average pace. I ran 6.2 miles in 1 hr 12 minutes at an 11:38 average pace. Hal still gave me 90% so I am happy with that. It wasn't a bad run, but I wanted to take it easier today. I ran pretty hard yesterday and my hip felt fine when running, but it was bothering me at work. I really feel like it is a "sitting " problem. It doesn't bother me when I am moving around, just when I sit for too long. I really need a stand up desk, but unless I buy it myself I don't see that happening.
I'm going to post this, but I still haven't caught up on reading yet and it may be tomorrow before I do. Today is the anniversary of my Dad passing away and my sisters and I are going over to my Mom's later today so I doubt I'll have a chance.

Great job on your race @7lenny7 - you shave off a LOT of time. Love your new racing friend, she sounds awesome.
@kgirlhart good run and I'm glad running isn't bothering your hip. Can you rig up your own stand up desk? Even with boxes, etc? Or there are quite a few pretty inexpensive versions on Amazon, etc. It would be worth saving the hip pain. Thinking of you on this tough day.

In the "at least it's not 0" category, I ran 2 miles with Stella after work today and we walked another 1.5 miles or so. She was not really into it, as usual, and it was a little warm so I didn't push her.
I asked a friend how her run went today and she said "how did you know I ran?" I answered you always do long run on Fridays. Turns out it's not Friday . A fact which has annoyed me all day long. This will be remedied tomorrow I guess!5
