Mostly cloudy and mid 50s F today. A very nice morning for a run. Right leg is back to normal; left hip has its usual niggles, probably exacerbated by whatever stride change my body made to accommodate the right leg injury. No big thing.
@kgirlhart Happy your mom is OK.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

@kgirlhart I'm so glad your mom is okay!
@rheddmobile Yeah. My driveway is pretty much a hill. At least I don't have to worry about finding a place for hill repeats! Haha about the car. So fancy.
@Tramboman Glad your leg is better and your hip is back to "normal."

@Camaramandy648 hey, good to see you back!
@julieannegannon sorry to hear about your pain. Glad you're getting it checked out though.
@RunsOnEspresso OOOHH!!! nice! Some of my favorite trail running shoes have been the On Cloudventures. They feel like I'm running in very comfortable slippers with awesome tread.
@quilteryoyo 919 feet of elevation gain for 3 miles!!! Yikes! That is an excellent driveway for training!
@kgirlhart that's always scary when you get the call that your mom has fallen. As you said, it could have been worse.
@rheddmobile we don't have the osage orange here in Minnesota, but once when I ran in Kansas I had one smack me right in the middle of my forehead. It didn't fall from the tree, it was just hanging there and I ran into it. I didn't see it because leaves were in hiding it on a low hanging branch. Rather than duck I just lowered my head and plowed through the branch and OUCH! More of a surprise than anything though.5 -
6.5 miles last night, this time in pursuit of my quest to run every street in Burnsville, the city next to ours. I'm at 67.5% What a slog. It was hard to get into a comfortable rhythm and I had much more walking than I wanted, and I'm starting to get a bit of soreness in my right hamstring, so time to start foam rolling. I'm really bad with doing that.
Here's the track of all the roads I've run in Burnsville:
My progress for the month, and year7 -
@7lenny7 I used to shop at the Brunsville mall every back to school season.
7 miles this morning. I didn't post yesterday but I only did 3.25. It wasn't meant to be yesterday. Today I felt much better.

@rheddmobile @7lenny7 how interesting. I had to google what the heck an "osage orange" was only to see pictures of a freaking "hedge apple" (how I have always heard them referred to). Strange that I have never heard the other reference. I have only recently begun seeing them on the ground this year just over the last week or two. Typically the next morning they are mostly gone with just little bits remaining as the deer try to eat them for some reason.3
-
@RunsOnEspresso unfortunately Burnsville mall is just a shell of its former self. I think about 2/3rds of the stores are empty now, the owners are in bankruptcy and the city is trying to get it redeveloped.
@WhatMeRunning I knew them as hedge apples when I lived in Kansas. I just saw some for sale in our local grocery store. Apparently they keep spiders away if you put them in your house.4 -

Still logging daily. Ate more ice cream... bought larger bras... this is sad ya'll haha! Kickboxing Saturday. I don't plan on trying to hard. The goal is to stay upright and not fall over *insert reoccurring dream of falling because legs won't move.7 -
@swenson19d - One the one hand you are walking more than half of the days! On the other hand you got to eat more ice cream! And on another hand you get to do kickboxing! That's more hands than the average person!
I guess I've been slacking on my updates, but I can quickly post the updated mileage according to Garmin.
ETA - I saw a turtle crossing the path in front of me the other day and I was so happy that I was actually going to pass a turtle proving I am now faster! But he got across before I could get my phone out and take a picture. My ego is forever destroyed now.9 -

It was in the 50s this morning so I took the Champ with me on my run, I knew I was only going to do a couple miles since my legs were tired. He’s such a sweet pup, for those that don’t know he was rehomed to us because he used to run away all the time from his family and come to my house so they gave him to us. I’ve worked really hard with him and you notice here he’s on my front walkway with no leash. I do for safety reasons keep him on a leash when we are out front but he has zero interest is running off (of course unless he sees a rabbit). I’m working on recall with him, he's there about 80% of the time.
@RunsOnEspresso very pretty shoes
@rheddmobile amazing the stuff you find out on a trail. My neighbor used to have a tree in their yard that was osage oranges, you’d sit on their picnic table and had to be careful because they would drop down on you. There is one on one of our greenways I see them on the ground from time to time. A lot of our trails are good for bikes, one especially that I’ve been running lately and I’m always hopping off the trail.
@7lenny7 I love that you run all the streets in the towns. Such a cool idea.

@7lenny7 That's sad to hear. I loved that mall.
Although it seems most malls are headed that way. We went to one a week or so ago, thinking it opened at 10 but it didn't open until 11 and even then some stores didn't open at all (appeared no one showed up to work). We also had a mall that changed into some educational campus (medical something I think).0 -
@kgirlhart glad your mom wasn't hurt too bad.
@Camaramandy648 nice to see you back on the thread. I've seen you killing it on Strava!
@julieannegannon good that you are going to get your hip checked.
@quilteryoyo your driveway laps always impress me!
@RunsOnEspresso those are great looking shoes! I had some ON Cloudsurfers when they first came out (running store guy talked me into them). I loved how they felt running straight, but for some reason I felt like I could fall on my face if I was running on a turn.
@rheddmobile @7lenny7 we have those Osage-oranges all over the ground and on trees down here. As a kid I was told they were called horse apples! I never heard of them being used for insect repellent, but google confirms your claim
@WhatMeRunning your turtle story was hilarious!!
@skippygirlsmom Champ is beautiful!2 -
@7lenny7 That's so cool that you are running all the roads in the town. Not sure I'd want to do that in mine...I mean it would be cool, but not always safe, I'm afraid.WhatMeRunning wrote: »ETA - I saw a turtle crossing the path in front of me the other day and I was so happy that I was actually going to pass a turtle proving I am now faster! @skippygirlsmom Champ is too cute. I'm glad he gets to live with you.

@WhatMeRunning LOL! thanks for the perspective!
I have been half trying to get a beau bois d'arc tree for ages; horse apple tree. They are great to throw when you need to throw something They splat nicely against a tree if your aim is good. LOL! Even better that they repeal insects. And did ya know they were used for bows by the natives? and for fence lines because the younger trees have thorns. *what I learned a summer course exploring state parks in Oklahoma.7 -
Well it's official, I'm not doing the Brighton marathon on Sunday, not even walking it. Oh, well11

Thanks for the well wishes for my mom.@rheddmobile, @tramboman. @quilteryoyo, @7lenny7,and @scott6255. Her face looks terribletoday, but she is feeling good and isn't terribly injured, just scraped and bruised. Itt was really scary when she called me especially after last year when my dad fell and broke his hip and passed away about 6 weeks later. He passed away on 9.16 20, so it is really on all of our minds right now.
I also had to Google Osage oranges to find that they are horse apples. I didn't know they were used as insect repellent.

Back from vacation and I’ve read all the posts and liked, hugged, etc. I ran or went to the gym every day while in Aruba although no formal exercise on the two travel days. I wasn’t sure how running in the Caribbean would be or if there would be a place I felt safe to run alone, but it all worked out. The heat and humidity were tough but there was a nice bike and walking path that went from the hotel, along the shore and out to the airport and also went through a little park. I got started between 5:30 and 6:15 every morning and there were always people out using the path so I felt safe.
