Barbara, What's your average number of steps usually?

Barbara I think it was emotional. I felt nauseous this morning again but much better after a good day.

continuing saga with O and F - better at the moment
Today we had the major meeting with key players.
    O and I were to go representing our group and then F - who we've barely seen for 6 months got invited by someone else last minute - going for the group without letting us know - whereas we had planned someone else would be going if a 3rd place opened up ;

For F, I had drawn up a mail asking him to refrain from being agressive etc. I was going to send it next week - after his retirement, not just before (there is a retirement drink at school for 22 teachers having retired this year and last year) .

I have a couple of other friend-colleagues who are among the 22 retirees, so I will go. there will likely be 50-100 people. because F was coming today and I was apprehensive, of some before or after or intermediate time in small numbers - I sent him the mail this morning at 8 am. our meeting was at 9:30 -he probably arrived at 9 and didn't see the mail. he is not very connected to mails.

when we met up I gave O a cheek kiss as we all often do in normal times; I think F (who has not apologised or anything ) was thinking to give me a kiss cheek and I avoided that. In the meeting since F was invited by someone else he was sitting slightly away from us. Since he didn't prepare with us, his part was a bit messy and personal. Personal is okay, in small dose, due to the context. He didn't speak much in this day long meeting. O and I spoke quite a lot and I think it went quite well on that level. we got positive feedback from others.

We went out- the 3 of us - with the 2 who had invited us. fora quick lunch during the long day. F was next to me, (with 5 people - nearly everyone was either next to or across from). He showed me something he was working on, for the collective that someone had asked us to do. when I asked if he was working on it alone he suggested working together; (no way!) I gave someone else in the collective's name. I wasn't crazy about what he was doing but no way will I work with him right now.

And then we went back to meeting and split up afterwards.

I haven't heard from them since. I suppose he got his mail when he got home.

O was against me sending such a formal mail, (I sent it to him and woman colleague for feedback) but a woman friend who knows the story thought it was just perfect as is. it's much more formal than our usual way of interacting.

"I ask you to refrain from...". and I mention the frequency and duration (over a year) of the problem, and said that since had only interacted 3 times in past 6 months I thought that would be okay but he was agressive 3 out of 4 times, all times when there were 2 or 3 people (me an 1 close friend of his), and not when there were 7 people.

I said it's a shame to have to come to the point of writing a formal mail but the many informal times I asked him to refrain were of no avail.
a bit more long and detailed but that's the gist.

O said yesterday he had spoken to F and told him he shouldn't be vulgar. and f had said I should have said xx, instead of xx. but my impression was that they thought that a non-vulgar synonym of a vulgar word would have been okay. when I said that to O he didn't answer. That if I speak about something I'm not comfortable about, I speak about specifics that are actionable, that it' s not useful to just say "you are xx (insult, vulgar or not)".
O seems okay on the comunication level if told somethign he usulaly gets it but I'm not sure if O got it. sometimes he gets it a few days later maybe - and sometimes maybe never ! I don't know.

    O seemed sympathetic that I had to sit next to F and was concerned and asked afterwards if it was okay: no problem;

    no problem at lunch today.

They might get more or less upset/angry with me for sending such a mail to F, especially 2 days before his retirement. I'm sure it's not the greatest thing to get, but really he can just refrain from being agressive to me (which he of course should and needs to do) and then, simple as that, it would be a non issue.

    GOOD THING TODAY. activist stuff
some union and other major actors were in the meeting today. we have more or less been waiting over a year for such a meeting, with key players. I had issues with two of the parties present. several years back -they were not straightforward and really manipulated things and made life very very difficult. using people's situations as negotiating tools, for major things. It was a horrible situation but I made it through in the end, better than I might have.

but today our group was clearly the most organised and dynamic and prepared of all the different people/groups present. (there were 2 unions present, us, invited by the 2 unions and various officials on the other side) (One from a major group thanked us for being dynamic in the meeting and when we were preparing to leave they asked us to stay for the next point, as they wanted our input - this was major, as this particular group - which has the most seats- has been avoiding inviting us and answering us). As it is they spoke with us as we were leaving offering to help us with something.
We had a lot of responses, numbers, examples etc. to offer to the situation. the others had so little prepared overall.

and any negative image that might have erroneously remained or seemed to have been spread -from 6 years back- seemed very much to have resolved today for good -o think. notably the couple of individuals who seemed key manipulative players 6 years ago each seemed very stressed. I think they (previously colluding) were very much at odds with one another and very tense. They were both not very good when they were speaking, whereas apparently usually they are much more skilled. It's way too long to go into in more detail.

in reality I don't know if we will get what we are asking for, with ease - surely not- the officials were listening well and being friendly but the woman running the meetings is known for that -- it is said that you feel very listened to and then after a day of discussion you realise she has not really promised anything of substance, and sometimes promises are not kept. So we need some leverage or to use the little leverage we have.

but in any case our image is quite good, that's for sure.
We were sometimes quite tough, and also able to make some jokes spontaneously at the end, that made people all around crack up laughing.

Pip- enjoy Bodega Bay- We went all the time as kids. Either there or to our cabin just south of Mendocino (where 128 and Hyw 1 come together). The Tides is a fun place to check out. It is just over an hour from us.

Thank you Heather, yes every time I think of my Callie, it feels like a kick in the stomach. Sometimes I feel like I can't survive, but know I have to. Jack's cardiologist changed some of the meds, he seems to be doing better but they are checking everything out.

    Janet,

I'm so sorry about your granddaughter's loss, as Heather said, you've more than had your share of tragedy, my dear. I hope Jack's tests lead to a treatment path that works well. Thinking of you, and good to see your face pop up.

Dreams - I think my biggest dream would be to find a job I truly love, that pays fairly and truly cares about its employees, and that I am passionate about. I don’t have a clear vision of what that would be though.

Other dreams all revolve around money. I don’t want big trips, a fancy house or anything like that. I would like to be able to go buy a new mattress, roof, appliance whatever it may be without getting behind on a bill to do it. I also want my husband and I to go to NB next year to visit our parents. Again, that is a money thing and of course right now a Covid thing.

Julie - I have nothing of real value to add, except that I’ve found in these situations if I just waited it out, things usually sorted themselves. People get dismissed, promoted, move on, retire and then it’s trying to recover from the stress you’ve been carrying for usually too long. I know this isn’t helpful when you’re in the thick of it though.

Heather - you have such a way with words. May I share a bit of that with my daughters? They both suffer from terrible anxiety.

Katla - I don’t know about Arctic Swans. The geese do have quite a bit of white down their neck and lower body.
I bet you’ll be relieved when the tickets are booked and your plans are finalized.

Carol and Heather - I agree with both of you. I personally find if I let all of the negative in and not overpower it with positive I have a different dialogue in my head.

Pip - I’ve so enjoyed travelling with you. Can’t wait to see the new flooring.

Sue - I don’t understand families that fight and argue at times like this. It happens all too frequently though. I hope you get some peace soon.

I had a crappy day at work and brought it on myself. My supervisor has a habit of not seeing the urgency in anything and also doesn’t communicate well. It has been very evident throughout this whole payroll fiasco. I adore her, she is very sweet and smart. Anyway, today we had another issue come up with the new system and when we asked them to investigate it and find out what happened, it came out that it was her that had created the issue. I was so frustrated and went to the Administrator hoping that she would have a discussion about communication and speeding things up. The Administrator in turn just told my supervisor that I have no respect for her and she needed to talk to me about it. The administrator twisted my words. I have apologized to my Supervisor but I know it’s going to be touchy for the next few days and that wasn’t my intention at all. :(. I think I’ll make her a card to apologize and I’ll not tell the Administrator anything more. Sigh - sometimes it sucks working with people.

The craft fair I had signed up for in November has been cancelled. I’m still going to work at getting some out for the online one.

We have the Grands for the night, they have no school tomorrow so will hang with DH for the day. Our daughter will pick them up after work. I have my first ceramics class tomorrow night.

    I can’t wait either

Did Kathy Smith’s Rejuvenation DVD then walked around the block. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Prevention Personal Training DVD and then walk around the block

barbie – many times I check weather.com before going out for my walk. Like last night I checked it to see if I needed to wear pants or if I could get by with just shorts. It will tell you how much of a chance of rain there will be.

Heather – happy early birthday. I’m sure that cake will be scrumptious.

Heather – we just saw in the paper that gas in England is $1.34. Now that’s in pounds and per litre. So...gas is over $7/gallon. No wonder you walk/run everywhere! And we thought gas in California was high!

    Janetr – (((HUG)))

Went to ceramics tonight. I think that it will go fairly fast painting this mermaid.

Sue - my heart goes out to you. Nothing brings out the worst in a family than a death in the family, unfortunately. I saw my family and in-laws in ways I never wanted to while I was settling my mother's estate. I'm so sorry you're dealing with that on top of your own grief.

JanetR - Thinking of you, too, my dear. So much so fast is hard... and on top of all the rest, to have moved, as well. My heart goes out to you. And as Sue said, there is much in the country that can be of comfort.

Heather - happy early birthday! Hope it's wonderful... Have loved all the pictures this month - you seem happier than I've ever known you.

    Love y'all,
    Lisa

Janet, I'm so sorry to hear about your granddaughter and mother in law. I hope your hubby is feeling better soon.
    Pip, loving your vacay photos!
Michele, congrats on the BK job! Glad to hear that your hip is feeling better!
Tracey, loved the photo of Banff! I do so miss the mountains..... not the snow, mind you, but the mountains! lol
Machka, happy to hear that your tests went well, hoping that everything can be sorted out so that you feel better!
Heather, Happy Birthday! Enjoy your time with the family!
Lisa, nice to see you pop in every once in awhile. I sure hope your health issues can be sorted out soon....
Rebecca, your sore tummy doesn't sound like much fun, wish I had some ideas for you...
Katla, I am really glad that your hubby realized how important this trip is to you and is agreeable (or so it seems!) to flying out there.
I'm sure there were other posts that I wanted to comment on, but that's the trouble with just reading and not even taking notes! Certainly cannot rely on the memory....
I have been staying caught up on the reading, but just haven't had much time to comment. Not too much happening in my world, although I did head back into the Y last week. Rules have been relaxed regarding masks, they still have to be worn while moving about in the building and transitioning from one workout station to another, but they can be taken off while you are actually doing the exercise. We also have to show our vaccine passport, which is just a QR code that is on my phone. This leads me to believe that everyone in the building is vaccinated. I still distance, which is still pretty easy as there aren't as many folks in there as there used to be. I'm okay with that! With the weather turning, I thought it was time. I also need to do strength training, the walking and biking is great for cardio, but I need to tighten up some muscles before I start looking like the saggy, baggy elephant! :open_mouth:
Not much else to say, so hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Tracey - You can use anything I've said, of course. The advice is not original. :p It's just a very poor rehash of the advice of many spiritual teachers in history. I do not consider myself 'spiritual', simply because I don't like the word, but science echoes the advice. I have found myself so much more 'in flow', and 'one', since I have been following these principles. My life has truly changed for the better and I also see that DH has benefitted, quite without him knowing it! , :p I definitely do not try to convert him. ;):*:p I say very little to him about it, but he knows I like 'that sort of thing'.
I have gleaned the best advice from many books and I daily listen to YouTube videos on the same themes. If I listen before bed, it calms me.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult, almost impossible, to help other people unless they really want to change. It has to come from them. And everybody takes a different route that speaks to them. Your job, for your daughters, is to practice for yourself. It's a bit like AlAnon. You can't do it for them. If they ask, they are beginning to be ready.
'When the student is ready, the teacher will appear '.
You are such a caring, loving person. <3 Take care of yourself first so you can take care of others. Put on your own oxygen mask. :p You never know what miracles may happen.
You have so many great qualities. <3

I am determined to get a bit of editing done today, before I prepare for my brother and wife. They are popping in for a cup of tea when they park the car in our drive, but disappearing again until the evening after dinner. I will do their room this afternoon. Fortunately, they do not have high standards. :o:p<3

    September
30: Remind yourself that you are enough, just as you are. ‘nuff said.

Tracey  the pic of Banff. Always wanted to take the train across the Canadian Rockies. “…sometimes it sucks working with people.” Amen, sister, AMEN!
Machka glad you’re getting timely medical attention . . . and that you find joy in new pens ;)
Pip, Joe loved the bbq grilled oysters at the Bodega Bay Oyster company, if you like that kind of thing. Me, not so much
Katla sorry no Yoga today. When will it return?
Vicki sending strong, positive hopes for your DH’s good heart dr. appointment.
Julie when I was working I got 4K steps just going to people’s desks. If I walked a half hour at lunch that was another 3K, then dancing could sometimes bring me up to 10K total. Retirement, laziness, and a DVT had me down to an average of only 4K total per day. This year I’ve been gradually increasing, target average/day is 7222 for September. Bravissima for “leaving them laughing.”
Janetr so glad to see your smiling face, so heartbreaking to hear about losing your DGD. :heartbreak::cry::heartbreak: It’s just not supposed to happen that way. Prayers your DH heart issues are easily and quickly resolved. From one city girl to another, the 4 legged country predators are a little easier to manage than the 2 legged city ones…
Sue in WA so sad your family is not getting along. ((hugs)) ((hugs)) What Lisa said.
Heather, wise words to Tracey, congrats on the editing. Happy pre-birthday celebration with your brother and his wife.

Not much going on here, still avoiding indoor activities like church, T’ai Chi and line dancing. Meeting up tomorrow with some friends for a happy hour at a local brewery’s outdoor seating area, my big excitement for the week ;)

Hello dear friends. So much has gone on it seems like the a life time ago. We listed our home for sale on July 9th. It sold within two hours of the listing with pics hitting the MLS, three offers, top one was $20,000 over asking price. They wanted to close in three weeks. Lots if crazy, rushed packing. We moved about 70 miles south to 10 acres owned by our son and dil. Three days after the final move, I received a frantic call at 2:30 am from my daughter. My 21 yo granddaughter and her husband were in a car accident and air lifted to OKC. We lost our Callie the following afternoon. We are all heart broken. She was the one I did crafts with, went shopping and to ballets, etc. I miss her so very much. Three days after her service we got a call from Jack's brother in MO, Mama Smith had a heart attack she was 90, she passed within an hour, we drove to MO and were there for about 12 days. After returning home Jack started have heart problems, so he is going through a battery of tests. I'm slowly adjusting to country life and farm animals. Oh goodness, I'm a big city girl so new to me.

Well that's enough for now. Miss you all and think of you all often. I'll try to keep up now. Much love.

Had my gastroscopy today ... nice little nap and woke feeling all right. Usually I have a rough re-entry from procedures and surgeries.

Looks like I've got a couple things going on:
Stomach: looks like my stomach isn't emptying properly (Gastroparesis). That might explain a few things. I'm on medication for that now. The specialist also took a couple biopsies because he saw something that made him suspect precancer. I'll find out for sure in a few days, but he seemed pretty sure.
Gallbladder: he also suspects my gallbladder isn't functioning properly so I'm going for a HIDA scan tomorrow.

I came home and slept for about 4 hours. Still tired.

Yesterday: gastroscopy ... which identified a couple possible issues with my stomach. Still waiting to hear back about the biopsies but that might not happen until tomorrow or Monday.

Today: HIDA scan to take a better look at my gallbladder. I'm radioactive!! That is a long test! Again, I should hear something on Friday or Monday.

    Next steps:
My specialist wants to see me once he has the results, so that may take place next week.
He has already indicated that there is a good possibility my gallbladder may be coming out sometime soonish.
I'm on medication to empty my stomach.
As for the pre-cancer (gastric intestinal metaplasia) ... I guess that will depend on the biospy results and what "grade" it is.

    I am tired.
