WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR NOVEMBER 2021

I had a nice ride on Henry the horse. Not too active today as Henry seemed a bit tired.
Teddy can't chew his little treats because he had three teeth extracted yesterday. Poor dog just stares at me with his sad eyes, waiting for his cookie.
Tomorrow I'm going to upgrade my phone. So tonight I am studying things like SD cards. So many factors to consider. At least I generally don't take pictures so the camera doesn't much matter. Anything newer than five years ago would be an upgrade.

I am almost sixty years old, divorced, living with and taking care of my parents. My dog Teddy is a Maltese mix. I have been between 165 and 175 pounds for the last five years, with varying efforts. Mostly I count calories and fast from four pm until nine the next morning. But sometimes I eat cookies at night. 😁5 -

So I am on 2 prescriptions for my UTI. So no real fasting for 5 days because its 3 times a day pills. I suppose as long as I do 12 hours (when I mostly sleep) that's ok. My health comes first. Life happens.
Rebecca4 -
Rebecca ... fasting was made for you, you were not made for fasting. It's a way of life, not a law and several days shortening the fasting period will not ruin all of your efforts. If you are really concerned, make a concerted effort to eat healthy and watch your portions. Hope you feel better soon.
Question: Do any of you cook with ground turkey? I have never really used ground turkey but thought I would try it. Made a turkey meatloaf for dinner this evening. The recipe I used (92% lean ground turkey) produced a moist, firm, very easily sliced loaf that tasted OK. But the smell was off-putting ... like fake meat smells in the school cafeteria. I didn't think dinner was inedible but my guys wouldn't go past one bite. Granted, they were prejudiced before they even tried, it certain they wouldn't like it, and they didn't. I have another package of ground turkey in the freezer, but unless I can completely fool them, they won't eat it.

Barbie:
Thanks for the new Month.
I am sad to have lost 2 more friends in the last couple of weeks. Both of them younger we’re than I am. It makes me more determined to make the best of each day, and not to put off doing things.
Live! Laugh! Love! Learn! NOW!!!! 😂
My aim for a while now has been to focus on health/fitness and to maintain. The result has been that I have been losing weight very slowly, and I was delighted over the last few weeks to have dropped below my UGW of 140 lbs.
I am continuing to refine my daily habits and develop new ways of supporting my current state of health/fitness.
I will try and catch up with everyone over the next few days.
Find something you love doing, and do that!!!
It’s time to shut down my devices and get ready for bed.
☘️ Terri
Pg 1 I will read some more tomorrow.
PS: Absolutely love Bob Ross. He’s on BBC 4 each evening Mon - Thurs6 -
I find ground turkey is best with a lot of spices. Maybe oregano and garlic in a meatloaf to punch up the flavor.3

I cook with ground turkey a lot. I often mix it with ground pork sausage to make burgers, meatloaf, quiche, etc. I like it with taco spices. Use spices and herbs, BBQ sauce; things like that.

Hello Everyone:
Happy to find people like me at my age. My name is Buffy and I live in Wisconsin. I am 54 years old, not even sure how that happened.
My first goal is to lose about 30 pounds before I go to Disney in Feb. 2022. I am 5 days in of counting calories. Right now I do about 5000 to 6000 steps a day.
I work as a Senior Certified Pharmacy Tech. and spend my day in a very very busy Pharmacy. We fill about 800 to 1000 plus prescriptions a day. Do COVID testing and also vaccines. So I am usually exhausted when I get home.
I live with my boyfriend and all our kids are grown an gone. We have 4 Grandchildren.
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you. I have to remember to come here since I can not see the community from my app.

I use ground chicken. I have used ground turkey but didn't like it as much as the ground chicken.
To use up the ground turkey, I'd brown it in a frying pan with onions, then pop it into a slow cooker with veg and a curry mix. Turn it into a turkey and veg curry.

Welcome, LBuffy, This is the place to find the supportive friends that will help you on your journey. I love the people at my local pharmacy and know what a busy job it is. It helps me to come back to this thread every day to remind myself that there are other women on the same journey with me.

I use ground turkey in almost everything- This week I did taco filling(for tacos/nachos/etc, I also do eggroll in a bowl, chili, spaghetti sauce. Anything that I use ground beef in, In all those things, there is so much flavoring so it covers the turkey taste. Mongolian meatball ramen the guys here really like- again- lots of sauce/flavor added to it.

Thank you Beth for the encouragement! Nope this won't derail me. Plus my urine is a cheery pink color, (the meds)!
Rebecca1 -
Today I bought 3 yogurts to take my morning meds with. If I am gonna break my fast I want to eat some great Tillamook yogurt.😁
Tomorrow I am having yogurt/eggs with toast and hollandaise/pop tart. Each meal punctuated with a mug of coffee and cranberry juice.👍

Welcome! If you click on more at the bottom of the page on your app, you can find the community. I almost exclusively use the app for reading this thread and logging my food. I do tend to post longer replies when on the desktop, though. It’s just easier.

Here is my introduction for the newbies.
I am Kay. I just turned 67 last week. I live in Northeast Georgia (USA) with my husband of 46 years. We have two grown children and two grandchildren. I am a retired high school math teacher and content coach. I now hold a volunteer position with my church conference that takes up a lot of my time. I’ve lost 62 lbs from my heaviest, almost 50 of which since starting MFP. I use a body, mind, spirit approach to eating taught by Katrina Sequenzia in Healthy Free Life Academy, and use MFP to log my food and the I Deserve a Donut app from Barb Raveling’s website to journal through my thoughts when I stray from my healthy eating path. I would like to lose about 40 more lbs, but am not in a hurry. Here are a couple of pictures, one was taken at my husband’s office Christmas party in December of 2008, the other was taken yesterday.

Allie - We are both on a good track. Making a baby blanket is work but very satisfying. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.2

Worked now have an apple pie in the oven baking for dessert tonight. Just because it’s raining and cold out, Vince doesn’t want to grill the ribs, he wants me to put them in the broiler. Wimp…..lol
Beth – I’ve cooked with ground turkey and I’ve even gotten it into Vince...lol He says he can taste that it isn’t ground beef, but he eats it. I put ketchup in the meatloaf. Ground turkey can have a “bland” taste so you need to doctor it up
Terri – (((HUG))) So very sorry about your friends
Buffy – welcome!
Going to get to bed. Work tomorrow and then the soup kitchen. Hopefully, I’ll get home before Steve leaves.

Katla - I’m happy to read that PT was not painful for you. I have been sore after some of my sessions but not in anymore pain than normal.
Allie - I hope your email works for keeping you out of a hearing.
Michele - I used to put vinegar in the wash with my work clothes to help with the smell. I think a 1/4 cup or so. It’s been a long time ago now.
I’ll have to do my recap of who I am later, it was a long trying day today after a late night last night.
Good night all,

4: Sign up to join a new course, activity or online community: nope. Well maybe Pastor Jim’s Bible study would be more to my taste than BGBS…
5: Change your normal routine today and see how you feel. Yesterday it was a little harder to make myself do BB&B, ‘cuz I cheated and played solitaire before instead of after ;}
OOPS didn’t take BP yesterday after all. Was up early, finished readings before daylight and went straight to doing T’ai Chi on the deck.
Heard the term “pharmacy desert” for the first time. When Walgreen’s bought BiMart’s pharmacies, they transferred rx’s to local Walgreens. Nearest is in Crescent City, 30 miles south across a state border, so perhaps that’s why they “sold” our rx’s to Freddie’s. BTW, Joe’s Part D insurance @ $24/month, doesn’t cover his newest $186/month rx AND the premiums are doubling in 2022. Time to research other Part D offerings.
KJ the pics and what you said about the gals on this thread.
Rebecca that Athena Rose pic made me laugh out loud for joy!
Beth I’ve snuck ground turkey into highly seasoned spaghetti sauce, but it hardly seems worth the trouble.
Terri ((hugs)) Welcome back, you were missed.
Buffy in WI are there 3 dots above the word More at the bottom right of the app on your phone? If so, tap them and scroll down the list for Community, then Motivation and Support, then down to Women 50+ for November 2021. If not, can you go to the www.mfp.com website on your phone?
Kay your smile says it all! Bravissima!
Knee screaming “Storm coming!” all day. Gave in and took an aspirin and a nap. Was struggling to make steps, then stumbled upon a Bob and Brad PT podcast with Sara Meeks about exercise and osteoporosis. It was so fascinating I was able to march in place, painlessly, to make goal. Motion IS lotion, and distraction helps too

Busy and productive day!
I spray painted the pieces of the base of an outdoor table. We picked it up last year at a tip shop for something like $10. Last summer, I power washed it and sanded it down and meant to get to the spray painting, but that just didn't happen for some reason. However, it's done now. The next step will be putting it together again.
Then we went on a hunt for gravel and found a wonderful place. There, we shovelled and carried 360 kg (794 lbs) of gravel to get it into our van and home. This evening, I'm just starting to feel it. I expect I might be slightly sore tomorrow.
The gravel is for our footpath which has washed away in several heavy rainstorms since the BIG ONE in May 2018. That one dropped about 100 mm of rain in a few hours and just about washed the footpath away. The subsequent rainstorms have added to the damage. Tomorrow we'll chat about our plan for laying the gravel.
We picked up some things from Bunnings for more outdoor work. Then I weeded most of the rest of the path to help prepare it.
Finally we decided to leave the garden and go for a short bicycle ride. Just 8 km.
A bit tired now.

I took another blanket to Project Linus yesterday. I found out that our chapter is about 70 blankets short of the 400 that will go to a nearby community aide group. I am happy to be part of such a caring effort.

Busy day today. Got a dentist app. Gotta go pick up our running packets. Were invited to a car show by an old school mate, don’t know how long we r going to b there, was wanting to go run a 5k so I can test out these new shoes to c if I can run in them tomorrow, if not, I will have to use an old pair of monkey feet, I’ve worn them all out. Then Kirby wants to go to the store for the trip and make food so we won’t have much to do tomorrow2

Barbie- bless you on your project linus ..sounds it helps alot...
Dan is going to Com a Con in Providence, RI tomorrow so I am running him around to his bank to get money to take with him0 -
Good Morning Everyone!
Today I made a omelet with 1 egg and 2 egg whites, along with some Turkey bacon. I added onions, peppers and salsa.
Today is day 2 of my 3 days off of work. I needed a mental break so I took a few days off.
Agenda:
Trip Meeting
Finish cleaning out garden
Get house back together
Take a walk
Maybe get to the store and buy some Split peas for my soup
Hopefully find a digital planner for my ipad.
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.
Beth I love ground turkey. Last week I made it and had some with taco seasoning and some with onions and peppers. I made quesadillas and also the Big Mac salad. It is so good in spaghetti too.
My other half is laughing at me today (in a good way) I get to buy this book I wanted Sunday. I told myself if I tracked all my calories for 7 days. Then I could have it. Then I will add once I have the book. If I walk for at least 20 min. I can read for 20 mins. That will be a quick goal since the book is short.
Everyone have a great day!!!
