Hi Gals,
Just a work rant….I do a lot of embroidery of letter jackets (see picture) and they take about 10-30 hours each, so they come in and I am always working on one that was dropped off a few weeks before. Right now I am telling folks 5-8 weeks lead time. One whiny client has for 4 weeks called/texted/ or stopped by every 2-3 days to get status and offered bribes to get it done before other folks. I never take a bribe I really appreciate families who planned and they should not be stomped on by someone with more cash. So I am working (finally) on the jacket for my whiny family, I get it started and now they want to make a change which will delay the jacket. So I have stopped my machine mid-design while they decide what to do. I can’t turn it off just stop it, it’s been a couple of hours that the whole business is on hold because of these folks in 30 minutes I am calling them ---- I really don’t need special snowflakes in my universe!
It is getting cooler and cooler here – fall is here, now California’s idea of cool is nothing to many of you but last night it was 48 F (about 9 celsius) with a high of 65 f (18 C) today. My heat source is a fire place insert, so tonight is the first fire of the season. So nice to feel the warmth after being cool most of the day.

Allie - My daughters dog watched quite a bit of Hocus Pocus with her. She (the dog) sat up and wouldn’t take her eyes off the tv.
Annie - I second Kim. I switched three phones over at once this summer and it was nothing.
Evelyn - I had a situation today and ended up at my doctors. She told me some that over half of her patients are showing signs of depression, blood pressure is up a in a majority of her patients and she said we all just need a break.
Kim - Some people are so entitled. I was taught at one company I worked for that some clients just aren’t worth the headache. Good luck.
I don’t know if I had mentioned or not but on Oct 20th when I went for my physical my BP was up and the doctor had told me to monitor it for a few weeks and then go back to see her. I’ve been doing this and it’s been running on the higher side of the warning zone. Today I woke up a bit early and since I forgot to take it last night I took the time to do it. I took 5 readings in about 20 minutes, my husband told me I needed to go see a doctor. I went to work and the Director of Care took my BP and told me I should try to get into my doctor today. I called the office as soon as it opened and she fit me in at 3. I’m now on high BP meds. A mild dose, she was concerned about the high numbers today but was more concerned about the fluctuations that continually occur.
I go back to see her on Dec 2 and I’m to keep monitoring in the meantime. I also talked to her about the pains in my chest I’ve been having for a few weeks. I thought it might be a touch of costochondritis and I was correct. The treatment for that is an anti inflammatory which can also increase BP so I’m trying Voltaren for now.
It was a long day.

My husband and I just spent 2.5 hours gardening. I did a whole pile of weeding and he laid part of the garden path. Only part because our estimate of the quantity of gravel we needed was off. We'll need about that amount again.
We stopped because there's a thunderstorm going on ... and we were getting tired.
@Snowflake1968 ... in about 2008 in Alberta, I was diagnosed with Tietze syndrome, which is similar to costochondritis, so I've got an idea of what you're feeling.

Action for Happiness Calendar for November ...
https://www.actionforhappiness.org/november
This month's theme: New Ways November
This month, we're encouraging you to try something new! Learning something new or getting involved in an activity that really absorbs and interests us is great for our wellbeing. Keeping our brains active is not only good for us physically but it can help you feel you are flourishing as you see yourself make progress with a new skill, or just make you smile as you make a mess and decide to start again. Being playful and trying new things is important, as is remembering that it's OK not to get it right first time - change "I can't do it", into "I can't do it...yet!" This month's calendar is full of ideas to help you decide what to try next.
1) New Things I Want To Do This Month
- actually make progress on my To Do list!! Last month I added things to the list. This month I'd like to cross things off as done!
- playing piano is still pretty new for me
- making Christmas ornaments with nail polish
- having son and daughter-in-law for dinner
- going camping with husband for first time since accident ... maybe
- planting flowers
2) Respond To Difficult Situation In New Way
I'm kind of running out of new ways to respond to my difficult situation. However, one thing I try to do when things are getting difficult is to smile. Evidently I have a resting grouchy face which may make people respond defensively to me ... so I have consciously tried to produce a beaming smile at times. I probably look like Sheldon Cooper when he tries to do that, but that's OK. It's a start.
Lots of gardening this weekend!

6: Try out a new way of being physically active. Hmm. Get down on the floor and do the Meeks Method beginning exercises?
Karen in VA would you remind me how to post gifs from yoursmiles.org. Posted dancing couple by mistake and now can't figure out how to post the "oh well" or shrug.
T and I convoyed to Lone Ranch beach where we parked and watched the king tide waves crash and splash around the rocks. Coastal Coffee Convoy. Since Covid we don’t meet for coffee indoors, instead, we bring our own coffee and take our own cars to park above a beach and chat on our cell phones. There’s no cell coverage at Lone Ranch so Tracey brought walkie talkies. Good to chat and laugh “together” despite the rain and plague.
Just skimmin’ as I’m pooped, but wanted to say Tracey I’m so glad you were able to get in to see your Dr. Scary stuff that.
Machka “new way of being physically active” = shoveling 360 kg of gravel
Pouring down rain most of the day but scooted the dogs down to the powerline in a brief, misty break.

Tracey - glad you got to the doc. Stress and pain can do weird things to us.
I take a mild blood pressure pill daily. Have done since 2003. Losing weight made absolutely no difference, so I guess with me it's genetic.
The day dawned warmer and NO WIND. Perfect running weather. On the seafront I saw the dog club on the lawn, kick boxing for women, Tai Chi for men, and yoga for the yummy mummies. Coming back I passed all the tennis.
Of course, I had forgotten it was Parkrun. Luckily I managed to get back past the turning point 6 seconds before the pounding leaders arrived.
Brighton and Hove is reputed to be the second thinnest place in the country and the second healthiest.
Going to have my quarterly bath this morning.

Forgot to say that on my way home I saved the life of a child.
A father was parking his car a little way down the street from his house. His wife was coming down to greet him and the children came out of the house behind her. One was a girl around 4 and a little boy barely 2 was trailing behind. He started to look confused and wandered towards the road. I could hear and see a are coming quite fast down the long street. He would certainly have been run over had he gone into the road. I ran up to him and headed him off , at which point he started to cry and toddled along to his mother. She picked him up and was grateful.
A very small thing, but......... the best thing.

Good Morning!
Heather: So happy you were there for that baby!
Today is my last day off. So I plan on doing some things around the house and also something for me.
Yesterday I did overeat a bit. It happened and now I move on.
Today is Day 7 and I am down 6.1 pounds. I am more excited that I have tracked for 7 days. I have not done that in a long time. So I can buy my book that I wanted. I don't usually buy books since once you read them then you are done.
Does anyone have a rewards system set up. I need to make one so that might be my project this week.4 -
great job Heather! Right Place, Right Time and a caring aware Heather!!!!0

What an amazing thing to add to your already full list of why you're so glad you moved! Added on top of this is rescuing his future. The science-fiction part of my bent little psyche notes that it's a perfect inflection point for a time traveler who will try to prevent you from saving the boy who will be Prime Minister 40 years from now. Keep your eyes peeled... Also...found BBC Sussex Radio online - can you remind us of the day and time when your interview airs?
JanetR -
Happy belated birthday! Hope all is well with you and yours...

I'll second Kim's experience. I've always found it much easier to find what I'm looking for on Verizon's website, including reasonably priced phones, and the swap from one phone to another is relatively painless. I am not fond of their brick-and-mortar stores, as their people always seem to have no idea what I'm asking for or alternatively, patronize me by pushing me to buy a phone I don't need or want.
Allie -
You're one of my favorite people, you know that? Your generous and loving heart is something to aspire to on my part... I tend to lean more toward tough love and high expectations.
Tracey -
The blood pressure thing is well worth getting checked out, and I'm very glad you did!
Quick and painless (hopefully) bio for the new ones. Welcome! I put on my suit of armor (for which please read excess weight) to keep me safe from my abuser father, and then to keep me in my marriage to my safe, boring, non-threatening, and eventually neglectful first husband. My abuser died in late 2004 and nine months later, I had a gastric bypass. At 303 and 5'2" tall, I was literally bigger around than I was tall at the time, pre-diabetic, and a lot of other issues. In the process of losing 166 pounds, I watched my marriage fall down like a house of cards. Headed for my home state of Texas and met the man who is the love of my life... a year later we were married. Over the next incredibly happy decade, I ate my way back up to 219 pounds before I found the wake-up call of MFP and these ladies. I'm hovering around 175 right now, and a ways yet to go.
If there was one single thing that all this taught me it's that I had to own the food I put in mouth and my own actions. If my nose grew every time I lied to myself or ate without thinking or "forgot" what I ate on any given day, it would stretch coast to coast. MFP helped me own that. These ladies have too.
Regards

Was at my café for a good 4 - 5h reading and taking notes related to work.
A bit complicated and not encouraging (long story!) but I'm doing my best.
I have to go back and go through.
A bit discouraging actually but aiming to be courageous!
Not very! got a halo top ice cream and ate it and took a bath and now am under the covers at 4pm! good thing I
Kind of the opposite of courageous!
Glad I got some good hours in in the morning.
I'll probably rest a bit and get some more activity in later (cleaning walking etc.).

I love each and everyone of you and even though we are spread across the globe ,I feel close to my sisters.. love ya'll 💓3 -
Tracey – I hope your BP settles down, and that you have been able to contact your doctor. December 2 seemed like a long time to wait to see her in person. I’m glad your doctor was able to fit you in to her schedule. :flowerforyou:
Barbara – Watching the waves is a lovely pastime, especially since you and your friends can park side by side and chat. Nice that your friend was able to bring walkie talkies so you could chat where there was no cell service.
Heather – You were able to intervene in a situation that could have been awful. You were able to save a child. Thank goodness you were there to act as a guardian angel.
Lisa – You have saved your own life and had the good fortune to marry a very wonderful man. YAY!!!
Pip – I love the Yogi photos. They make me happy.
Happy Saturday, November 6th. It is 8:43 am here in NW Oregon. I’m up and DH is still sleeping. I have been getting physical therapy for my knee and I think I left a favorite vest there. I plan to call this morning to see if it is still there. I feel a bit like a doofus for leaving it there in the first place. It is still too early to call. :ohwell:

Worked then soup kitchen. Steve left. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Firm Fat Burning Cardio DVD.
There is this guy at work, Jerry (I don’t know if I told you about him). Well, this one gal, Angel, picked him up and took him home every day. So one day I left and he was waiting for Angel so I offered to take him home. Well, the other day I went to tell Angel that I’d take Jerry home, but Angel had left. Since I wasn’t going somewhere after work, I took him home. Today tho, I had plans to go to the soup kitchen, Jerry told me it was Angel’s day off. So I asked him how he got to work and he said this other person who I didn’t recognize. So I asked him where she was and he said “oh, she left”. So guess who took him home and then went to the soup kitchen. Actually, I got there a bit late.
While I was at the soup kitchen I found out that Jerry is the ex-bf of this gal, Jessie, who works there. She’s a real sweet kid, but she is a bit on the slow side. Well, Jerry is, too. Anyway, I knew that she hadn’t seen her son is many years, Jerry is always talking about his sister. Jessie told me that his sister won’t let her see her son. I don’t know the whole story there. Then Gail who also volunteers there said to me “watch out, he’s mean, he was very mean to Jessie”. I don’t know the whole story but Gail is someone I’d trust.
When I told Vince this he just said “be careful”. I am, I am also going to try to distance myself from constantly taking him home. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of. So come Monday I’m going to say to Angel “I can’t take Jerry home today”. Same thing for Tuesday and Friday.
Tracey – someone else suggested vinegar. I’m going to give that a try. I know I used to use white vinegar on grass stains.
They had a truck delivery today at work and, of course, the back door was open while they were delivering things. Why, I have no idea, but after the left, Jerry kept the door open. I was shivering!!! So I asked Jerry “is there a reason the back door is open”. I was pretty sure the only reason was that he didn’t close it. Yup, I was right
Didn’t do real good on the eating front while Steve was here. He likes his ice cream, we had ribs, stuffed manicotti, apple pie, things that I usually don’t make. Well, he left so it’s back to my old routine.
Rebecca – how often do you donate blood?
Julie – glad to hear you’re feeling better
Michele NC
My last donation was last summer, before I visited my sister I think.0 -

Barbara - Re pharmacies - Walmart and Safeway both have pharmacies in our town as does Walgreens. I think Fred Meyer does, too, in Scappoose. I’m not sure. Are any of those stores near you? Our nearby BiMart sells vitamins but there hasn’t been a pharmacist there for quite while.0

Isn't it weird! All I did was notice, when his mum was distracted. I don't think she even knew he had followed his sister out of the house. He was not even 2 years old, I think. Years ago I would have been paralysed and not known what to do. Because of my grandchildren I felt empowered to intervene and just was able to head him off. He did not appreciate my intervention!
The car was going far too fast. There is a 20 mile per hour limit on these side roads.
A good day.

Lisa - It’s on Monday, 1pm (13.00) GMT. You can also catch it later on catch up. Sarah Gorrell.3 -
Heather— You are a real live heroine. You saved a child's life through your clear thinking while the mother was distracted.
Update on my vest—The Physical Therapy business is not open today. I'll have to look for the vest next Monday. I have other vests, but that one is the one I planned to wear today. :ohwell: This is a small irritation and I am the one who irritated myself by leaving the gray vest behind. :grumble:2 -
Heather, right place at the right time for sure! Happy for everyone concerned that you were comfortable enough to interrupt the young ones path!
Lisa, I think a bit like you, that definitely is a time traveler moment! (Heather saving the little guy)
Kim, ugh, I work in a storage facility and it's amazing how many people don't think the rules apply to them! I realize it's not quite the same as what you are doing, but it's similar, people thinking that they are the only ones that matter, very frustrating! And they've had 4 weeks to think about the design for heaven's sake!
Tracey, glad you were able to get to see you dr so quickly! Yeah, I know I'm not the only one who's had enough of the pandemic, everyone that I expressed my frustration too agreed and was also surprised that we are still at the point that we are at, so at least I'm in good company! lol
My mini bio: Married, just celebrated our 40th in June, 2 grown children, both boys, one is married and living here in the same town, with two kids, boy and girl. We live on the southern end of Vancouver Island, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. The other son is living 3 provinces away, living with a woman who has 3 kids from a previous relationship. He has no desire to have kids of his own and has told her many times that her kids are the perfect age as they don't really require much assistance! lol Her daughter is 14 now and the boys are 7 and 8, I think. That neighborhood anyway. I have battled my weight for what seems like forever, currently at 188.4, as of this morning and I'm only 5'3", so it's a little much. I got down to almost 160 several years ago, felt and looked great! Unfortunately, I decided that I could go back to my old ways of eating, so here I am, back up to almost my highest. And the frustration and stress of the pandemic has not helped at all! I do eat my feelings....
On a bright note, our son and daughter in law are frustrated with daycare, so they have given notice that they are pulling our granddaughter out at the end of Nov. I have been wanting to have a grandchild at our place one day a week ever since I became a grandmother (5 years ago now), so I'm finally getting my wish! We will have Rosalie, probably Tuesdays starting in Dec. She is a very active 2 year old, so this could be fun! We are usually exhausted by the time they all leave just when they come over for dinner, so we'll see how it goes. Our grandson is in kindergarten, but I have offered to go and get him on days that I have his sister, give their parents a chance to do a few things. She is working full time, but only 4 days a week, government job so she has the option of a flex day once a week, she just works a slightly longer day, he's self employed, which has it's ups and downs. I'm looking forward to it, but am a bit concerned too. We will all have an adjustment period, I am sure! The other grandparents will also take her one day a week and then with the flex day, well, our son will have to wrangle her the other two days a week.
Okay, the bio was mini enough, the rest maybe not so much! lol Enough for today!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
