Walked with my husband earlier in the day.
Then completed a 50K in December walking challenge.
Hot day ... it hit 32.8C (91F) while I was out there walking. Thankfully there was a bit of shade and some wind.

Tracey in Edmonton, -33 tonight. It’s supposed to be -4 on Saturday.
I had issues with my female organs all the way through. Horrendous cramps in the early years.
Mid-cycle spotting and sometimes full fledged bleeding in the mid-years ... it's just fabulous having 2 periods a cycle. The mid-cycle bleeding seemed to be triggered by exercise of all things. I'd go on a long ride and whoosh.
And then as I entered perimenopause, in addition to the usual 31 symptoms of perimenopause, I was bleeding 3 weeks out of 4. At first I figured it was just perimenopause. After all, why not have 3 periods a cycle?? Finally, after a little over a year of that, I got fed up and went to the Dr.
Turns out I had a massive polyp in my uterus and when I had the surgery to remove it, they told me I had pre-pre-cancer. The cells were just starting to change. That was in 2015. I needed to be checked every 6 months and if they noticed anything, I'd have to have surgery again. Thankfully, my periods started being monthly for a change! But in 2017, the periods started coming more frequently again, I was tested again, and I had the very early stages of cancer. Surgery again ... and it seems to have been OK since.
Do get them to be thorough with the testing. What I thought was perimenopause was something more serious.

Good morning, all.
Barbie: I'm like you. I just want to keep doing what I'm doing, so I've chosen CONSOLIDATE as my word for 2022
Allie: Good vibes for Tracy.
Machka: I've used Dr Fogg's habit technique for sometime. It has certainly made a difference in how well the habits stick.

Another really good Desert Island Discs this morning.. Find it on the Sounds app. It was our National Treasure, Richard Osman. He talked about his food addiction (I know exactly what he was talking about) and his detective story The Thursday Murder Club, set in a retirement village. I think quite a few of you might like it, although I have not read it.
Lisa - I am thinking of you as you gather your family around you.
I had never done words for the year until Barbie set me a good example. 2020 was EMBRACE. I truly embraced my family trauma and opened myself to healing. 2021 was FRUITFUL. I had one of the best years of my creative life as I opened up to spreading my branches and giving the fruits of my knowledge to others.
This next year, 2022, I have chosen EMPOWER. I choose to empower others through my writing by spreading the word about how to feel empowered by the parts of ourselves we once labelled as flawed. They are our superpower.
A VERY FRUITFUL AND EMPOWERED NEW YEAR to you all. :flowerforyou:

Good last day of 2021....I am reading. I am so thankful for all of you! You are my blessings and mentors. Work for 3 hours today, dinner with friends at 430, then heading to Kentucky for the night. I have forgotten my word for 2021. It has just been a rough year. I think I will post whatever word I chose on my bathroom mirror. So this weekend I will think of "goals" and word.
Like Machka's cartoon, I am sneaking into 2022!
Much love from Ohio,

Positive note ...I am finishing the year 4 pounds down from this time last year! Lots of roller coaster rides along the way, but I will take that victory.

Heather - thank you. Just heard Levi say "oh no!" very loudly in his mother's ear, and 6 am's not here yet. They're in the living room, on the other side of a wall... She will insist on having them all sleeping in the living room, and when you do that, there is a price to pay...
Tracey - we definitely grew up in similar circumstances. There were no hallways in our house either. One front door led into the living room, one led into my parent's bedroom, and one into the brothers' bedroom. To get to the kitchen, you had to walk through my parent's bedroom or the bathroom. My shared bedroom (with my baby sister) had three doors.
One led directly into the kitchen, one into my brothers' room, and one out onto the back porch. No insulation, it was built from 1x12 planks under a tin roof, and cracks between them that made trying to keep the house bug-free and critter-free nigh impossible. There was no upstairs, but there was an attic where the rats held sway. My sister and I had a wholly different definition of the "rat race," because of the nightly rat gallop above us. Every so often, my mother would take one of our many cats and put them up in the attic with a bowl of water for about a week. If they wanted to eat, they had to wage war on the rats.
As our fair Machka sees the New Year begin in just a few minutes, and the Earth continues its spin around the sun and brings a New Year to each of us in turn in the northern hemisphere, I've got a lot of reflections running around my head. Looking for my word for 2022 has led me down a number of different pathways. Right now, I am leaning toward the word "recover." For my country, for the world, for my family, and for me. This may yet change. It's a really big word when you think about it.
Time to go talk to the little yeller in the living room and hopefully let his mama, brother, and sister get a little more sleep.
Love y'all,
Happy New Year!

These were my comments on January 1, 2021 ...For me, Jan 1 2021 is just another day. I wasn't disappointed by 2020 and I don't have high hopes for 2021.
If all goes well it will be a relatively quiet year that will allow me to get a bunch of stuff done ... stuff I've let build up because I had my sights set on my degree.
If all goes well there will be more exercise.
If all goes well there will be more relaxing.
A friend of mine sent me a goal-making worksheet with questions to help you form your goals. I got to about question 3 and thought "Nope!" I don't want to form big goals. I just want to let this year happen and meanwhile I will chip away at little things.
COVID - there's a flare-up on the mainland again. It's not over yet. No end in sight yet. We'll continue to deal with it for months to come.
All the more reason to work away at the little stuff... whatever we can do.
As for today ... I'm relaxing. Yesterday's ride kind of took it out of me. Hopefully we'll go for a walk later.
"For 2021 ... just go with the flow. Don't look for "biggest triumphs", don't worry about completing things, major indulgences, learning anything in particular, making changes, taking risks, developing talents, pursuing joy, etc. ... just go with the flow and see where 2021 leads."
M in Oz
I also added ...For a few years, I tried setting resolutions but found them either so vague or so restrictive.
A resolution of "I am going to exercise every day" is very restrictive for me and doesn't fit with my goals. Because my goals require that I do bigger days of exercise, I therefore need rest days. And some days I just don't feel well or energetic enough to exercise. When I tried a resolution to exercise "every day, forever" I found myself feeling guilty and defeated when I couldn't do it.
They are also easy to forget as the year wears on.
So I started setting goals which are, as you mention, specific. I can set a goal to run a 10K this year (and it's on the list!) and then I will exercise in a way to achieve that. It won't be every day, but it will be often enough so that I can attain the goal.
As it happens Specific is the first letter of the SMART goals acronym.
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Timely
I also like to create my annual list of things to do about this time of year - review last year's list and create this year's list.
That list is more or less how I will attain my goals. So I might have a goal of decluttering and organising the house (yep!), my list of things to do are the steps I need to take to get there such as going through my clothes and taking clothes that I won't wear again to the OP shop.
It's not something I have to work at every day. I can take days off! I don't need to feel guilty if I go to the beach after work and take photos instead of sorting through my toiletries as another decluttering step.
But by the end of 2021, unless there are some major unforeseen circumstances, my house will be less cluttered and more organised than it is now.
We've got to go with what works for us, and this is what works for me.
Machka in Oz
And finally, I talked a bit about my goals ...2020 Goals
My main goal, the one that mattered the most, was to complete my degree. I did that.
2021 Goals
I'm finalising the details of my 2021 goals too. My list is 6 pages long right now and includes a table of contents. I've divided into categories and I'm just in the process of ensuring I haven't forgotten anything and sorting out the order in which I want to do them, approximately.- Upcoming Appointments
- Education/Career
- Medical
- House
- Office
- Computer
- Garden
- Spiritual
- Fitness/Sports
- Cycling
- Audax Tasmania
- Recreation
House > Office > Computer become more specific as they go along. I have a number of thing which need to be done in the house (dressing room, bathroom, etc.) but most importantly the home office needs a whole lot of work, and along with that, I need to acquire a good scanner and backup hard drives so that I can sit down and scan a whole lot of paper from files, notes, and who knows what all that I've carted around with me forever. And along with that I need to organise the drives on my computer into a better filing system.
The goal is to have an organised and decluttered house.
Fitness/Sports > Cycling > Audax Tasmania also become more specific as they go along. There are a number of fitness/sport things I'd like to try, with a focus on cycling, and a large part of my cycling endeavours includes my volunteer work with Audax Tasmania ... and maybe even riding some events again myself!
The goal it to improve my fitness level
Garden is a very small category because that's my husband's domain but I'd like to finish up the patio area.
The goal is to have a relaxing and functional area outside for reading, exercise and socialising.
Medical is mostly my husband's appointments, which I also need to attend because I'm his ears and cognition.
The goal is to keep him as healthy as he can be.
Education/Career ... little things like becoming really good at SQL and brushing up on VB.
The goal is to make myself more marketable by focusing on the practical side of what I do.
Machka in Oz
But ...I've liked this statement since I first read it several years ago and it kind of describes my approach this year. I've got a new year to work with ... I've got a list of things to chip away at. If I just sort the dressing room. If I just finish the patio. If I only make a start at organising the files on my computer. If I just start working, I've made progress.
So in summary, what did I accomplish?
Employment - I applied for 8 jobs (one early in the year and 7 in October), got 5 interviews, and got one job. At least. There might be a twist in the tale!
Audax Tasmania & Cycling in General - I kept up with the usual tasks, we hosted several successful events, my husband and I cycled more this year than the years since the accident. And we completed our goal of cycling at least one 50 km ride each month.
We have a beehive. We still need bees, but we've got the hive!
The dressing room and bathroom got sorted.
The patio is done and I've made progress on other areas in the garden.
We got all our vaccinations (3 COVID and 1 Flu) and attended all the medical appointments.
I did heaps of medical-related and legal-related research, including attending an online class on Brain Injury.
We ran in a couple events. (My husband walked, I ran)
Not too bad.

Me on the last day of 2021 ...
Well ... that's it.
It's 2022.
It's hot and quiet. So far.
I'm going to bed to read about neuroplasticity and then to sleep.

Thanks Rita will google that and send to my Jeep driving friend.

Did my elliptical and yoga. That makes three times, so it's officially a trend! Maybe the salad will happen today. I am down four pounds from my Christmas bloat, so that's a good beginning too. Back to my usual struggle weight, 170.4. There, I said it.
It looks like I have another chance to become slim and strong by the end of the pandemic, which is a moving deadline. My goal is really just to stay with the yoga/elliptical program, and dumbbells, and ci<co. Which means no cookies because I can't stop. And no chocolate habit. Maybe a taste of chocolate now and again, but not daily.
So my next challenge is going out to lunch Saturday. Probably they make a better salad than I do!
