Hi everyone! Just bought a new bike, so I'm not going to make the challenge in time, but I sure will try my absolute best.

I've got a hybrid bike, used for occasional commute, but mostly for rides on along canal paths. I record in Strava (is there a group for MFP users?)

There absolutely is a group in Strava for MFPers!

    https://www.strava.com/clubs/MFPChallenge

Will be riding tonight. Looking forward to another 16 mile ride (tonight's a death-march up the Alpe du Zwift while my parrot cheers me on. I'm actually looking forward to next weekend, when I'm going to do a nice 100km ride to get my Strava Grand Fondo badge - it's easier to pound out 62 miles than climb that virtual mountain!).

Finished today's rides! And yes, I glowered at my total for the year as I tabulated this, strongly considered jumping on the bike for 2 minutes, and decided 'the hell with it, I have a ride on Saturday' LOL

Rode the Flight of the Dove sportive out in Clinton, SC today! Great ride for a great cause (it supports the Laurens County hospice). Rode with the munchkin as well, making it doubly as fun.

Thank you for the link! I just joined!

And congrats on completing the challenge! That is amazing! I'm so impressed!

I've been away from the bike and MFP for most of the month so far, August has been challenging, but did log over 300 miles last month. Going to ride today and I'll sit down and tabulate the rides I haven't posted.

Since I only joined the challenge in July, it doesn't seem likely I'll make it to 2022, so I'm going for 2022 KM instead.

All outdoor rides from Strava (since I'm struggling to meet the challenge I've started recording all minor rides as well).

    July total: 356.3 KM / 221.4 miles

Well, no grand fondo for me - ripped my foot up real bad running in the wrong socks. :disappointed: But I am doing the Zwift MAAP stages, and today was stage 3. Gonna see if I can do 2022 km now that 2022 miles has been finished!

And keep it up, everyone! There's plenty of time left in the year!! Let's do it.

So sorry about your foot! I’ve been battling blisters all year- I think I’m going to try new running shoes. I’ve been in the same model for about 5 years and the heel seems stiffer. I think my socks were contributing too. Do you do thin or cushioned?

I looked at my back wheel while stopped at a red light and it looked flat. I had already pumped it up earlier on the trip, so I figured I might have a minor leak in the tube. With 13 miles to go, I stopped to fill it up, attached the pump and it showed a perfect 60 psi. I started unscrewing it from the valve and heard hissing (happens) and then more hissing and then what felt like an explosion and my tire went completely flat. The stopper pin of the valve was still attached to the pump.
You know the feeling when the brain just won't even entertain the "what now"? I sat on the ground, munched on a 'protein bar' and reflected on how putting 215 pounds of my obese butt may have been a contributing factor to the tire looking a bit flat while I was on the bike.
Eventually the sugar reached the thinking facilities and I screwed the pump back on the valve, then when I took it off again the pin remained on the valve so I could fill it.

Also, there was WAY too much UP on this ride. I hate the UP and everything hurts today.

I admire you for riding outside for that very reason! I’m terrified of flats and am terrible at fixing them!

Also- I’m going to copy your style and post progress to the KM goal. I should reach it in KM before the end of the year.

I’m also thinking- if I keep up my current ride volume and add my running mileage for the year that I’ve logged on Strava (not every run- I missed recording an actual marathon! But a fair number of miles) I might make the mileage goal combining them. I’ve logged 543.2 miles YTD running on Strava. Again- not all my running, but all that’s easy to track. It might keep me motivated!

Oh yikes!! Glad you made it through!! (and 215 may be obese, but it's not outside of the bike's limits - provided you don't bunny-hop stuff or slam it into potholes, everything should be fine! I have my fingers crossed! C'mon, bicycle, don't make me a lier lol)

I think my socks were contributing too. Do you do thin or cushioned?

In that particular instance, I /know/ it was the socks. They were no-show, so they left the back of my heel rubbing against the back of the shoe. I normally wear nice ankle-height cushioned socks. (my shoes are absolute junk - when I go to run my singular Ironman attempt in 5.5 years, I'll have something nicer by then. I'm using these horrible things:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/265643354425?hash=item3dd993e939:g:DlQAAOSwSxliV4qg

They're crap, but they work well enough for 10ks. The 1/2 marathon I did left me crippled, though - however, I'll attribute that to my lack of running fitness.

Anyway, RIDE!! Still taking it easy (because my sandals that I wore to avoid aggravating the blister on my heel ate a new blister between my toes - ugh, can't win) and won't be riding seriously until next week, but still got one in! I love that Zwift lets me ride in the crappiest clothes with the poopiest shoes.

I do hate skidding on wet roads. It started raining between me leaving the flat and carrying the the bike downstairs and I just wasn't feeling it. Cycled to the gym instead and made an account on their peloton. This right here is my first ever peloton ride. It wasn't bad! Looking forward to trying a class.
