Penny, My heart goes out to you...

My house is tidy and the important parts are clean but I don't vacuum often. Yesterday I was determined to vacuum but Jake kept getting phone calls so the vacuuming got done in sections. While he was on the phone I found other things to do. The pets were unsettled but we all got through it.
Yesterday was an amazing day of 24,000 steps which is way over my average.
Every time I hear about someone getting Covid, it renews our decision to stay close to home and for me to not start my line dance class again.

Accountability:Chose well: 143.5, Joe, readings, BP, wii, osteo back, livestream church, zoom annual meeting, CI<CO, CI<250<CO, rx, H20x6, active 4.07, mfp50+, steps >7400.
Bonus: AF, 10 mins grooming Tumble, called D and C and listened, mostly ;}.
Workin’ on it:
Happier January 2022
17: Be gentle with yourself when you make mistakes, like yesterdays’ CI.
Shadow is refusing to play train for kibble. I blame it on Joe sharing his second breakfast with the dogs, but really, if I wouldn’t cave, she’d eventually join in. Surprisingly Tumble was enthusiastic.
Annual congregation meeting went surprisingly well.
Chose to have hot cocoa instead of red wine during two phone chats with friends, yay. Alas, still got the “hungries” and made poor quantity and quality food choices. Ah well. Today will get out of doors instead.
Just skimmin’ …
Julie good to see you back. No electronics in bed here, but books, oh my yes, books!
Heather hope your family’s covid cases continue mild mild mild.
Carol, my dreams are usually nightmares, I’m always grateful to wake up “here”
Lisa bread in the oven, snow outside, I’ll be right over. or not. Likewise hope Corey’s whatever is mild and not transmitted to you. Our hospital bed availability has been ranging from 5-7% since Jan 5 when it got up to 9%. Hasn’t seen double digits since way before Christmas.
Fizzfizz congrats on taking off those lbs. Blast on!
Looks like our refrigerator is on the way out. According to thermometer, chill compartment gets too cold. Fortunately hasn’t yet frozen anything. Over the past couple of weeks, occasional puddles of water, suspect the self-defrost function is failing. Might ask our appliance repair guy to take a look. Nearest Home Depot is 30 miles south in Crescent City. Nearest Lowe’s is 3 hrs east in Medford. There is a nearby Sears “hometown” store but Kenmore is not the quality it once was. We don’t need ice maker/water dispenser. Open to suggestion.
Only to pg 38 but Joe’s up so there I go!
Lighter, lovelies!

I did my yoga with 2 mins elliptical and 4 mins marching. Yay!
Hope it makes up for my cookie binge last night. I will have to keep calories low today.

Dishwashers!! How many of you use them on a daily basis? I know a lot of people that use them as storage instead of washing their dishes! The reason I am asking is because we are remodeling as some of you may remember. We have decided to rent our condo out and buy another one. To alleviate issues with renters we are definitely taking out the garbage disposal. And I was thinking of taking out the dishwasher for the same reason. In all the years that we have been renting out our house and cabin the main issues we have always had had to do with appliances needing repair. Would you rent an apartment without a dishwasher?
I hope everyone has a fantastic day!!

I would, but most of my friends wouldn’t. We try to remember to use ours every few weeks.

Mary - I've rented a lot, and I've bought four or five houses. The lack of a dishwasher never made a difference to me in whether I rented or bought a given house. It was a bonus, not a deal-breaker.

Well we lost another friend Saturday night to Covid. He got sick on Wednesday and put in the hospital, Friday was put on a vent and passed away Saturday night. He was only 64. I spent part of yesterday afternoon with his wife. It was so fast.
We did not get the bad weather with snow they were talking about on Friday. We did have terrible high winds, I could hear it in the house. Saturday we were coming home and I happened to look at our roof when we were driving up and part of it was gone and part had a buckle. DH went up and took some pictures and will call the insurance company today. We just had that roof put on 5 years ago and go the 35 year shingles. So not sure who is going to pay for this. Just glad we happen to see it now instead of after snow or rain.
Lisa--I pray Corey only has a cold. DH woke up the same this morning and blames me for what I had a couple weeks ago. We go to the doctor this afternoon to go over his biposy report from his scope so see what the doctor says about his cold.
Heather--Sorry to hear the grand children has tested positive, pray it is a mild case and they are better soon.
Rita--Sending hug!! Pray that you get to enjoy the wedding.
Penny--So good to see you posting, I have missed you. Sorry for the loss of your mom and all the positive covids. Sounds like everyone is doing better and that is a good thing.
Okie--I have never had a dishwasher and we have thought about putting on in when we bought our house, but the kitchen is so small and I do not mind washing dishes by hand and DH does them some of the time also.
Well going to be 50 here again today. Gets us another day closer to Spring.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE3 -
Hi Gals,
Mary – dishwasher – I would rent without one, but only know one other person who would.
Garbage disposal – I have one and would not rent without one, Even though I compost everything I can, I love to cook and little bits and bobs get in the drain and I would not want the sewer clogs that could come from them in the sewer line as full pieces instead of ground up. And sewer repairs are crazy expensive compared to a new garbage disposal. But you did say it was a condo so maybe sewer repairs are covered by the association fees you pay.
Barbara – refrigerator – my repair guy says NEVER buy LG as while they are fine while they are working they don’t make a full line of repair parts. We have very hard water and without a softening system we can’t buy Bosch either as they are very sensitive to mineral build up.

MARY & OTHERS about the dishwasher question...I think the idea of one might be related to the amount of rent I would be charging. If I had to pay a large sum for rent, I would expect a dishwasher and other conveniences. When I was teaching 5th grade, I asked the students to bring in dish detergent for an experiment and all they brought was dishwasher detergent. Made me realize that they didn't have an inkling what sink detergent was.

My SIL just texted her mammo found "something" near her right arm. She has to go in for an ultra sound and another mammo, but the first available appointment in the entire Treasure Valley (with 5 + hospitals, a regional tumor institute and a couple of imaging centers) is not 'til March 22.
This is nuts.

Penny, so very sorry about your mom. Sending prayers for comfort and peace.
I had thoughts of going through something similar myself this past weekend. My 92-year-old Mom fell and broke her neck! Geez, you hear about things like this, but think it could never happen to "you". It's not as critical as it could have been. Thankfully, it broke in such a way that she doesn't need surgery, just a collar for 6-8 weeks, but GOOD LORD, went through an absolute panic when that call came! She spent the weekend at the UofMN neuro floor and is heading to a trans care facility to learn how to function in her collar until she can go back to her assisted care apartment in a couple weeks... or sooner depending on how well she does.5 -
Penny, hugs to you and family for the long as of your momma. It was nice you got to see her one last time, and be all together during her last days. Hugs dear friend!
Well I did everything I said I would do yesterday. That makes me feel good. The banana bread came out extra banana-y because I used 4 bananas instead of just 2. My oatmeal cookies were good too. I had some 85% chocolate pieces and walnuts in the freezer, so I set aside a blob to add some chocolate and nuts to it. I made 12 for middle son and sending those plus some VHS tapes of Japanese cartoons my sons watched when they were little. My middle son tried to find them for Athena, but no such luck. He's just going to get a machine to play them from Goodwill, and eventually get them transferred over to CDs. Its gonna be a heavy box!
Put together my compact Bissell vacuum, and its really great. Nice to just hit a button and it dumps right in the trash! My heavy vacuum before I had to dismantle, and wack the filter on the inside of the outdoor trashcan in the garage. Can you just envision the cloud of dust with each wack, see me trying to not have the wind blow the dust into my face. Uuck, so not fun. This new one is so much lighter, it might make me want to vacuum more!
Once son leaves I shall take over his side. It will be nice to write letters with the fireplace going, and have more natural light with the sliding door there. He still needs to clean a corner out of stuff.
Sumo wrestling quarterly tournament is going on right now, so nightly we get to yell at the tv, good times.
A gal off a local free site on Facebook is dropping off some magazines, and I will cut them up for my stationery making. I saw she has two kids so I made 2 banana bread cup cakes, and saved a mini loaf for her, for her troubles of dropping the magazines by.
She should be coming soon.
Have a good day ladies!
I will keep it simple and have a half slice of my hearty artisan bread toasted with avocado, diced tomatoes, some splashes of my shiitake sesame dressing, a fried egg on top, with "everything" spice on top. Maybe a blob of cottage cheese near it. Love eating like that.

The weather was glorious, so we walked around the seafront and down to the harbour to buy fish. Smoked haddock, skate wings, and huge frozen King prawns.
During my writing this morning the laptop froze, so all that had to be sorted out. Grrr! I was writing a particularly complicated piece of rumination, so I was very frustrated. Managed 190 words in all. Better than nothing.
Rang G this afternoon and chatted for 45 minutes. Her sister who cut her head open seems OK, but she is very sad about certain family fallings out. She has been estranged from her daughter for years, and now her niece. None of it is 'her fault'. Families!
Now relaxing after sea bass, roasted cauliflower, and sauce vierge. AF white beer.

For my friends in the path of recent storm... We have enough of them here and I know how disruptive they are and we have the equipment and clothing to deal with them.
Mary son's house has neither and I like having the extra cabinet space. I know if you improperly use a disposal you not only have the disposal but the main drain to fix. I would remind renter never to pour grease down the sink. It can cause major problems whether you have a disposal or not. I know those with septic systems go without disposals because of the problems it causes with their systems. If you ask a plumber they will tell you to go without a disposal. Unfortuantely if you have a dishwasher you do need to have a disposal for the junk that comes off in the dishwasher. I agree it is a major expense to put them in and repair if necessary. We just had to get our dishwasher fixed not too long ago and it is one of our newer appliances.

Would I rent a place without a dishwasher?
Nope!!!
For my husband and me, a dishwasher is a MUST.

My husband too can't live without a dishwasher. Me, not so much, but I don't do the washing up!

Penny ... there are no words to express how we feel when someone experiences a loss. I am so glad you were able to be with your mom one last time. A gift.
Mary ... I would not rent an apartment without a dishwasher. But there's a caveat... the dishwasher had either be in pristine shape or new. I hate doing dishes and since I've had a dishwasher for so many years find that I'm really lousy now at hand washing. It's not true, however, that you have to have a disposal if you have a dishwasher. My homes have all been on septic systems and we do not have a disposal as a result, but we do have a dishwasher with no problems.
We have a little over 12 inches of snow right now and it's still putting down fine/slick stuff. We need to take a vehicle to a service garage tonight, but might wait until early tomorrow morning. We'll see what it looks like later.

Working on form for WA state that I have to sign in front of notary. My appointment is tomorrow at 10:30 am. DD will read it over for me to make sure I have not goofed anything up. It concerns my mother's estate and has to be taken over to the courthouse later. I am trying to avoid probate as it is a small estate with no real estate or vehicle. Hopefully this will do it. It is what the lawyer recommended.
Mary we have a small one-room cabin that we rent to traveling nurses. They are usually here 1-3months. It does not have either a garbage disposal or dishwasher. We have not had trouble renting but it is short term.
We have had a beautiful day today, not very warm but sunny. I am still working on trying to get 20 g of protein at each meal and 25 g of fiber each day. Mostly doing OK. Am also trying to up my water intake. The hard part for me is cutting back the added sugar. I am trying to put all of the sugary things under snacks so that I can keep better track of them. Will see how that works this week.
Believe in your capacity to change, Sue in WA5 -
Did three 10 Minute On The Go Workouts then called BK to see if I should go in. I had the cell number of one of the assistant managers so I called her. She told me that they didn’t open until 11 so I went out and started to shovel. Vince got up and came out around 9:30. By 11:30 we had the whole driveway shoveled. So I called BK and went in for about 2 hours to do a little prep. The manager was there and she said that she’ll probably close around 7 since it’s supposed to get cold so what melted will freeze. For jollies I put on my pedometer and I only got in 1,000 steps. But I did get in an ab workout plus shoulder….lol
Tomorrow I’ll go to work (going to drive REAL careful), then the dentist at 12, ceramics in the evening.
M – I totally forgot that now Vince can’t take a decongestant because of his heart.
Debbie – lovely quilt. The one from my aunt is already quilted so I’m not sure how I can get the blocks from MIL on top of that. Gotta ask
Barbara – one thing I must say about refrigerators, I LOVE my french doors. In a side-by-side you can’t even put a pizza box in fully. I remember when we were getting a new refrig years ago, FIL showed me mathematically how a s-b-s has more square inches. That may be true. But they aren’t efficient (apologies to anyone who has a s-b-s)
Mary – honestly, I don’t think I’d rent an apt. without a dishwasher. A garbage disposal? Yup. Actually, we shouldn’t have a garbage disposal since we’re on a septic. But not a dishwasher. I probably run ours every 3 or 4 days. It is also good if someone in the family is sick (cold, flu, etc). It sanitizes the dishes/glasses since the water gets so hot. Our repair guy also told us that we should never get an LG appliance. I do keep some sink detergent – usually Dawn to cut the grease.
Vicki – I’m so sorry about your friend. Glad the roof is still under warranty. Hope none of the melted snow seeps in. Is your roof steeply pitched?
Barbara – I’d go crazy if I had to wait that long for a mammo. I remember one time they found “something”. In the end, it turned out to be nothing. But I had convinced myself that I had cancer. I could “feel” pain in my breasts….lol
Thank goodness I talked Vince into bringing the shovels down here when we moved. We sold the house “snowblower included” for a reason, just saying’. I do have a lot of gloves (Thinsulate) and scarves. I didn’t realize it, but one scarf that I have is a perfect match for my Iowa State coat.
Just remembered that tomorrow at work is one of the days when they get their deliveries which means the back door will be open. So I want to wear my longjohns
Margaret – I keep a glass jar on my counter and put all my grease and even other things that are liquid in it. Then, when the jar is full, I just throw it out. I figure that the more that goes into the jar (or in the garbage) the less that goes into my septic. All the houses we’ve owned had a dishwasher (sometimes we put it in) but we’ve NEVER had a garbage disposal that we used and we never had a problem. One house had a disposal, not sure why because we had a septic. Well, the lady who owned it before us did a very inefficient remodel of the kitchen. Why she put the stove where she did and the refrig is beyond me. She put in, and don’t ask me to explain this, a spice rack right next to the stove.
Vince continued to work on taking down the Christmas decorations.
