Penny - sorry to read about your Mother.

Mary - I would not rent an anywhere without a dishwasher. Ours broke last winter and it only took me three days of doing dishes before shooing for one. It hurt my back terribly doing dishes by hand. It is just hubby and I but we run ours about every other day.

Barbie - isn’t that the truth. It seems harder and harder to avoid the cooties.

I’ve been reading along but have been busy and not commenting a lot.

I managed to get Christmas a put away this weekend. DH also hung the hooks over my new bench.

We have a storm going right now and the temperature has dropped again. Supposed to be above 0 by the weekend though.

Penny, hugs to you and family for the long as of your momma. It was nice you got to see her one last time, and be all together during her last days. Hugs dear friend!
Well I did everything I said I would do yesterday. That makes me feel good. The banana bread came out extra banana-y because I used 4 bananas instead of just 2. My oatmeal cookies were good too. I had some 85% chocolate pieces and walnuts in the freezer, so I set aside a blob to add some chocolate and nuts to it. I made 12 for middle son and sending those plus some VHS tapes of Japanese cartoons my sons watched when they were little. My middle son tried to find them for Athena, but no such luck. He's just going to get a machine to play them from Goodwill, and eventually get them transferred over to CDs. Its gonna be a heavy box!
Put together my compact Bissell vacuum, and its really great. Nice to just hit a button and it dumps right in the trash! My heavy vacuum before I had to dismantle, and wack the filter on the inside of the outdoor trashcan in the garage. Can you just envision the cloud of dust with each wack, see me trying to not have the wind blow the dust into my face. Uuck, so not fun. This new one is so much lighter, it might make me want to vacuum more!
Once son leaves I shall take over his side. It will be nice to write letters with the fireplace going, and have more natural light with the sliding door there. He still needs to clean a corner out of stuff.
Sumo wrestling quarterly tournament is going on right now, so nightly we get to yell at the tv, good times.
A gal off a local free site on Facebook is dropping off some magazines, and I will cut them up for my stationery making. I saw she has two kids so I made 2 banana bread cup cakes, and saved a mini loaf for her, for her troubles of dropping the magazines by.
    She should be coming soon.
    Have a good day ladies!
I will keep it simple and have a half slice of my hearty artisan bread toasted with avocado, diced tomatoes, some splashes of my shiitake sesame dressing, a fried egg on top, with "everything" spice on top. Maybe a blob of cottage cheese near it. Love eating like that.

Now that your son is moving out will he still be splitting the rent with you or are you taking over the whole place? Good luck to you!! I hope everything works out well for you. Keep the pictures of Athena coming she is such a doll!

Eldest son will be automatically sending money for his portion of the rent. He's looked at prices of rent out in town, and he'll get BAQ (allowance for quarters) for his Guam place, so he's assured us he can do both. The thing is the money we'd be putting out for 1st months rent/ plus cleaning deposit if he moved would hit us hard. He also will have a truck here, plus other stuff he's left here, so if it all works out, he'll have this place after he retires. We hope he sticks it out, and can retire. If he couldn't stay in, then we might go in on home buying, using our VA option. Until then we'll stay here, pay our share, and count our blessings

Penny ... there are no words to express how we feel when someone experiences a loss. I am so glad you were able to be with your mom one last time. A gift.

Mary ... I would not rent an apartment without a dishwasher. But there's a caveat... the dishwasher had either be in pristine shape or new. I hate doing dishes and since I've had a dishwasher for so many years find that I'm really lousy now at hand washing. It's not true, however, that you have to have a disposal if you have a dishwasher. My homes have all been on septic systems and we do not have a disposal as a result, but we do have a dishwasher with no problems.

We have a little over 12 inches of snow right now and it's still putting down fine/slick stuff. We need to take a vehicle to a service garage tonight, but might wait until early tomorrow morning. We'll see what it looks like later.

I agree. We don't have a disposal but we've got a dishwasher. It is just slotted into place and hooked up to the water system.

If a place didn't have a dishwasher, I would look elsewhere and if there was nothing else I would take the place and buy a dishwasher.

We use it 3 or 4 days a week but it usually gets loaded as we go so the kitchen looks all right.

    Accountability:
Chose well: 142.9, Joe, readings, BP, osteo back, dogs to powerline, CI<CO, mfp50+.
Bonus: Community calendar newspaper emails (quilt guild, activity center, line dancing), 30 mins vacuuming, 50 mins grooming
Workin’ on it: H20x4, active 2.57
    Happier January 2022
18: Get back in contact with an old friend: Yesterday’s chat with C.

Oops, looks like I forgot to take BP yesterday, likely also forgot to make time for osteo back. Wonder what disrupted the routine? Can’t remember ;)

Newspaper will revive community calendar when they get enough events. Sent out feelers, got 5 activity center, 3 line dancing, 1 quilting events in addition to our fire district’s meeting. Possibly another art festival planning meeting. Fingers Xd.

Had to hang tough ‘til one pm but Shadow finally consented to play train for kibble. Nerve wracking.

Later, Joe and I took the dogs down to the powerline together. Yay!.

    Rita ((hugs)) and safe travels.
Rebecca SAR, you must be so very very proud of your son’s lifesaving work. You look so much healthier in the second pic, the smile says it all. Congrats on your new vacuum. I’ve gone to a cordless stick and it makes life so much easier, not that I use it as often as I should… Beautiful pics, your apple didn’t fall far…
Penny thanks, for updating us. Missed you. how you and your sisters sang to your mom and held her hand. Thankful for her peaceful transition. ((hugs))
Lisa and Beth, my BIL has Covid, but SIL still testing negative for that, despite close contact with also positive grandson. Thankful for small mercies.
Evelyn  the smell of fresh bread, cooked cabbage not so much
Michele, good call throwing that bulging can out. ERs are already too full, they don’t need a rush of food poisonings. Hope the DDS goes well and keep safe on those icy roads. I’ve liked our side by side, not having to bend over every time I want to get something out of the freezer, like ice. Joe likes the top freezer style as it’s what he had growing up. Then he said “you should get what you want”. I’d want side by side, with water dispenser and ice maker, but not willing to go through the necessary plumbing. Will be content with the top freezer. ;) I told my SIL that we’ll just consider that “something” to be a smudge on the film until we learn otherwise.
    Debbie  your grandmother’s quilt.
Machka “… getting up will surely blow it…” LOL!
Mary I use our dishwasher for storage only but I find handwashing dishes meditative. As a landlord trying to attract the highest quality tenants, I’d keep both the dishwasher and the garbage disposal.
Vicky :heartbreak: ((hugs)) for your friend. Praying for good news at the Dr. and quick, effective, roof repair.
Kim yours to Mary re: the disposal, exactly. If we weren’t on a septic I’d install one in a New York minute. Joe is constitutionally unable to clean out the drain strainers. Thanks for the cautions about LG and Bosch. Contemplating Whirlpool or Frigidaire for a top freezer without water dispenser/ice maker.
    Carol “dish detergent” LOL!
Carla yikes! Hard to imagine a broken neck not being critical. [shudder]
Beth a foot of slick snow? Keep safe!
Barbie “of all the things I learned in grade school…” made me snort my water. Cooties! ThanksIII

Feeling a little low. Just learned two of the folk I really like here (even though we haven’t spent much time together since the plague) are moving away, one immediately, one eventually. One, very active healthy gal, diagnosed with diabetes, runs in her family. Then SIL’s news . . .

Know I’d feel better if I got up and walked or practiced line dances, but think I’ll take an aspirin and go to bed.

    Lighter, lovelies!

Barbara, I would also stay away from Samsung, we bought a fridge a few, well maybe several, years ago now and had nothing but problems with it. The 6th time (yes, you saw that correctly) the tech came out (and this was only over the course of a few months) he said he was going to suggest to Samsung that they replace it as he had pretty much rebuilt the fridge. They eventually did and we've been quite happy with the replacement, but we had such a hassle, their customer service really stinks. I have to admit, the smell of cooking cabbage isn't that great, but when mixed with all the other smells going on, it blends nicely! lol
Dishwashers and garbage disposals: I've never had a garbage disposal, but did clean some homes with them, they need something pleasant smelling ground up in them every once in awhile or what a stench! I have owned dishwashers for the last 30+ years and would not want to be without one. Having said that, I do do dishes by hand as I have some stuff that shouldn't go in and some stuff that just takes up too much space. It is just the two of us and it gets run every few days.
Hubby and I got our boosters yesterday, I have been feeling find today, hubby not so much. He spent a great deal of time in bed today, but seems to be recovering this evening. He felt quite flu-like and he did not like it!
    That's all I got tonite.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

I've always hated washing dishes. Even when I lived alone, I hated washing dishes and considered getting a dishwasher ... but I really had nowhere to put one. The kitchen was so small.

I don't like getting my hands into anything wet, slimy, etc. I don't like hand lotions. I don't like hand sanitiser with aloe. I don't like dripping any sort of food on my hands. And the idea of putting my hands into a sink full of dirty dishes is just ... yuck!

I could just tolerate it with my dishes.

I thought I could tolerate it when my husband and I started living together about a year after we married but that situation started circling the drain right quick. He likes to use lots of dishes when he cooks and I'd have a kitchen full of sticky, slimy, dirty dishes to deal with every evening. It would take me a solid hour or more to get through it all. I talked him into using fewer dishes which helped a bit ...

Then a couple years later, we headed off for a round the world trip for 8 months and when we came back we housesat at a friend's place ... and she had a dishwasher. It was heavenly! And we vowed never to be without one. :)

So good to see your post.

I can empathise about your mother. We have gone through the same thing with my younger sister, and both sets of parents. It’s such a comfort when we can be with them at the end.

As for the *glitter*, there seems to be no rhyme or reason for who gets it. And there must be people with natural immunity. I hope your family members get over it without any lasting problems.

There is a part of me that feels like two years of NOT being around germs has made us more susceptible to everything that is floating around out there.

If we had all been masking and staying out of crowds, that might have something to do with it, but we all know that hasn't been happening. Even with my immune status, I haven't stayed out of crowds. I pick and choose what I do, to decrease my risk, but I am around the germs plenty. For instance, I met my class of 21 on Friday, and even though we were all masked, the room holds only 24, so we are crammed in there, and the windows don't open. Over the weekend, 3 of the 21 have been put in quarantine. One with Covid and two with suspected Covid (awaiting test results). We have free tests at work, so I have been testing every Friday, and I added a test on Monday for the last two weeks, especially after the students emailed me over the weekend.

This is just a really strong, transmissible virus. Not a lot we can do about it but be vaxxed, boosted, masked, and hope if (when) we get it, it will be mild. One of my colleagues has been in the hospital since November with it. He won't be coming back to work ever. His lungs have been permanently damaged. :disappointed:

Sorry about that. I read a lot on my phone, so don't comment on anything until I'm at my computer, and by then, pages have gone by.

That was scary for her and for you. My mil fell and broke something in her neck once, and I was surprised that all they had her do was wear the collar.

I’m catching up on posts this afternoon. I read your comment on Penny’s post. It’s must have been a shock when your Mom fell like that. I hope the collar does the trick and she recovers quickly.

Sending positive vibes to all those who have friends/family members affected by Covid. It’s running riot over here in Northern Ireland as well. Just have to keep ourselves right and hope for the best.

I had my follow up Gynae checkup yesterday. No sign of any nasties, but I will have another checkup in 3 months to be on the safe side.

    Take care and stay safe.
