Interesting article from Nature. A little thin on evolutionary evidence from more than 11,600 years ago but with implications for the paleo diet .

Machka, alas, no the mailboxes were not the locking kind. One neighbor hesitates to spend the $129 plus labor to install one as she’s heard the vandals bash them in. The other two I’ve talked to rely on their P.O. Boxes. Good luck developing an email filter that gets you the “just right” amount of emails in the just right time.
Heather in the cities here, to the postal service delivers to mailboxes on the house or just in front of it. Here, we are in a very remote and rural area on a 1.5 mile long dirt lane that makes deliveries of all kinds challenging how you keep extending yourself into new areas of creativity. Likewise I love roasted brussels sprouts, but they do give the kitchen a certain “air”…
Ginny con VERY gratulations on not smoking. Very definitely worth a little bump. I march in place watching recorded episodes of Jeopardy, not boring.
Barbie what a very very productive adventure you’ve had!
Lisa, great idea. First thing tomorrow I’ll change mailing address on the credit card to be the P.O. Box, then Monday activate the Experian credit alert. That’s quite a temperature range [brr]
KJ 800 miles with the littles? Wow oh WOW! Had to google Pikler arch, looks like a yoga arch to support during back bends
Tina thanks for the link and the distinction between monitoring and freezing credit.
Debbie that is a GIANT Romanesco!
Allie so tragic and sad. Wondered the same thing Ginny did about what caused the fall. ((hugs))
Michele fortunately the card itself wasn’t in the mail, just the statement. Whew!
Katla “. . . see puppies in the next few days…” how exciting! My fingers (and toes and eyes) are all crossed for you.
Rita welcome back, always glad to see your smiling face, look forward to hearing about your trip.
Pip con VERY grats on 3600 days and how can you keep from smooching that snoozing pooch?
Rori gorgeous pic, so relieved snow has returned to Colorado. snow shoeing and two hikes totaling over 5 miles sounds like a lot to me. All your other planned winter activites sound inspiring but you will not find me on the ice… ;} I’m too much of a klutz, e.g. I broke my wrist the first time I tried to cross country ski. It was my 30th birthday.
Mary what you said about every body’s body being different and your advice to get a food scale is right on point. I was shocked when I weighed a tablespoon “portion” of (peanut butter, mayonnaise, hummus) and found it weighed 2-3 times more than the portion size in grams. Explained a lot.
Time to snooze…
Lighter, lovelies!

Did I show you my kettlebell swing program before? I love it! I modified it for me. If you want it let me know. I also have an old kettlebell thread in success stories.

Well, my friends, I just had to pop in quickly before breakfast and tell you that, in my first week of a more watchful CICO regime, I have lost 2.5 lbs.
I was quite worried as I stepped on the scales as I hadn't managed a BM, and we had a salty dinner last night and I could feel it in my hands, but YES!
Onward and downwards!
I am eating a deficit, including the MFP margin of 400, of 1,000 calories a day.( 900 calories exercise) eating 1500.
I hope to lose 1 lb a week for the next six weeks until my cruise. If I do, I shall be within a pound or two of my last cruise weight and able to wear my evening dresses.
Things have been edgy with DH re the cruise and seeing his friends, but we seem to have turned it around since yesterday after a blow-up. Much better today.
Harmony restored.

Rori-your vacation sounds perfect. I am not that much of a snow activities person, but I can appreciate anyone getting the chance to do that which makes them happy.
Mary-I think you hit the key that everyone is somewhat different and you have to figure out what works for you. It all rotates around CICO but how we do that can differ. Years ago (like 2006) I did Adkins (early Keto?). Lost 40 pounds, got dow to 180. I hung out around that number for years-figuring that since I have no thyroid, that was best I could do. Since then I have found out I was mistaken and MFP and counting makes the difference for me. I don't know if intermittent fasting would ever be for me-but I'm not closing any doors.
Machka-have you had your neck checked? Your symptoms remind me of when I had cervical herniated discs. They may be able to give you therapy to help. I have had two fusions (years ago) that provided my relief. Not saying that is what you have, but I wouldn't just write it off to stiff neck if it is persistent.
Heather-congrats on weight loss. I had similar experience this am. It really does motivate you. It also struck me "see, it isn't all that hard when you really do what you should." Glad issues with DH seem to be straightened out.
Going to be warmer today (in the 30s). Off to sort out some papers and start pulling things together for my taxes.
Have a good start (or finish) to your Sunday.
Take care all,

Went for my 5k run this morning. Gorgeous day. These are the lovely older women who go swimming every day, even though the temperature reached freezing last night. I love their bobble hats and their dry robes as they warm up together with a hot drink.
Did my rowing when I got back.
Now on with my Art Club submission.

Sunday --
Weeded the jungle. We have a narrow area between Rhody's catio and the fence. In that area are several manferns (beautiful!) All around them and halfway up were weeds. Horrible sticky weeds and others. I waded in with long socks and gloves ... and pulled it all out. Then practically ran for the bathroom where I pulled off 100 or more little sticky seeds and washed my arms to above the elbows. I was so itchy!
I took these photos after the weeding so you can see right through to the fence. It looks much better.
Then we cycled, as I posted above.
And then I set up my Work From Home "office".

I may have to have it checked.
I used to get this kind of stiff neck quite frequently when I was younger and haven't had one in a long time. But then I started all this gardening and at the beginning of January, my mid-back cramped and pulled a rib out of place. Now it seems there has been another cramp in my neck/shoulder area. Thursday it felt like it was coming on. Friday was quite bad. Now it feels slightly looser. I'm hoping it continues to ease off.

I agree with the others here:
- get a food scale. It's quite revealing!
- find a plan that works for you. For me, I stop eating about 9 pm and start again about 11:30 am. And I follow a diet that is sort of close to Mediterranean.
Machka in Oz1 -
So today is day one of my plan for 250 calories of exercise a day. I usually walk 30 mins on Sunday, but today I plan on 65 minutes in circles in the basement. Snow and ice outside today. I know MFP inflates calories for walking, but I'm going to use them as they are for a baseline. I'm going to be tired and sore enough as it is.
I'm also going to drink more green tea to keep my daytime metabolism going, and try to reduce naps. Except for after Sunday dinner.
So it's a good day to explore podcasts. Amazon music has several I've never heard of. Plus New York Times and NPR National Public Radio.
I'm starting to see why so many of you do audiobooks. I have been making do with music, but that's getting old.

Finally got bone scan done. I took a Vit D the morning of the first time I made my appointment. I missed rescheduled two other becasue of weather. The scheduler was supposed to tell me no vitamins or calcium the day of the test because it throws off result. I have a 12% chance of a break or fracture in the next few years ie bones are in great shape. One thing off the list. In the spring I hope to get into a dermatogist for a skin cancer check.3

Machka hope your neck feels better! Yoga is showing me how much stiffer mine is lately. Gentle daily stretching ought to do it for me.

Machka ~ Your colorings are so bright and pretty!
Katla ~ I hope you hubby finds a car that he loves. My car is 16 yrs old and still drives like a dream, but, I would love to trade it in for a newer model.
Barbara ~ So sorry about your mail box robbery. A lot of folks in my area have been writing about a huge increase in car breakins.
Rori ~ What a lovely scene you had to look out through your window. Congrats on your snow shoeing.
Annie ~ Wow! You seem to be plagued with fleas.
For years my weight stayed at 166 lbs but over the last 3 or 4 it has crept up to 172/173. I can still wear most of my very old clothes, but, would be a lot happier to get it back down. Guess I'm not willing to do the work. Until I was in my 40's, the weight was always less than 130 lbs.

Rori - I am so happy for you on your snowy adventure! Cross Country Skiing has always sounded like enormous fun. Not a lot of snow in Hove.
I finished my drawing. Not Great Art, but that's not the point of the TV programme. It's to encourage ordinary people to have a go. I really enjoyed making the video to go with it, and sent in the first take. Bit dismayed at how wrinkly I look, but that's reality! As I say in the video, I haven't drawn anything in many years. Whenever I've tried anything artistic in the past, it's always been Abstract. This is a bit more Tracey Emin.
Glad I did it, as I have been hesitant about making and posting videos on Instagram and this enabled me to break through my reluctance to even attempt to make one. I will be back!

Today is “bone density day,”. I take 1 alondrate sodium 70mg tab once each Sunday morning. This helps me to have strong and healthy bones. I now need to sit upright for half an hour. Coffee after that.

Machka I wish I could color like that! Beautiful!
So... finally being UNquarantined from CV (didn't have it... just exposed) and free from work, Harley and I went to visit mom yesterday. He was such a good pup. He snuggled and licked Grammy and made her laugh and feel all better! Wouldn't DARE put a picture of her on here. She'd kill me. Hasn't had her hair done in weeks and that's the first thing she asked me. Those danged "old ladies" and their hair-dresser appointments. For better or worse, the salon has been closed in her apartment while she's been gone anyway.
AND, to let y'all know, she was in fine spirits and doing very well yesterday. "Hates this contraption" (ie: collar) but she's dealing with it and doing all of her therapy without too much complaint. She can do everything on her own, according to her. She was very coherent and we had a really nice conversation. Nothing like what my brothers described.
She has a follow up visit with the neurosurgeon next Friday who will decide when she can remove the collar and the ot/pt will let her know when she can go home.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all,
Rori - The snow looks so amazing. So pleased that you're literally broadening your horizons and snowshoeing sounds grand. Cold, but grand.
Allie - I'm sorry I got the relationships wrong and whooshing much love your family's way, as Barbara would say.
Heather - Glad harmony is restored, and well done on the weight! Will we get a gander at your masterpiece?
Machka - Loved the flowers - gorgeous, saturated colors.
Pip and Mini - Love the dog pics! Mini, glad your mom's doing better.
Egg has apparently decided to become a service animal. Yesterday I was feeling pretty rough and she kept climbing up on my chest while I was laying down in the recliner and just pretty much sitting on me. The last time, she climbed up on my chest, looked me straight in the eye, and then bopped me in the chin with her paw (very gently). Makes me wish I knew more about cat communication. I know that a long slow blink while looking you in the eye is recognizing you as family, but the only thing I found for the paw thing is that she might be petting me in return for petting her. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ETA: Egg does not like to be picked up at all... she does like being petted, but only on her terms. And her usual sleeping spot is beside my ankles on the feet of the recliner.
This morning, she's stayed curled up on the bed beside Corey - her favorite Sunday morning place, as it's one of the few days a week he stays in bed to drink coffee and wander around the internet. And apparently, she thinks I'll do fine without her sitting on me.
It's warmed up nicely outside, time to run to the store and get the necessaries for the week.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Carol, I am feeling the same way. I was always under 120 until mid to late 40's, got up to 175 but now back down to 153.At just 5', that is too much.
Six years ago, I was REALLY motivates- seeing hubby #1 for the first time in 20 yrs- I was on the treadmill for 2 hrs every morning, then pushing the triplets in a triple wide stroller for two more hours every morning. I got down to 129 and I was thrilled.
My goal is 125 but unless I can figure out what I am doing wrong, I don't know if I will get there. I really have a lack of motivation.
I am sticking to the 1100 cal a day or close to it, never going over 1200, sometimes just having 1000
but not motivated to start hitting the treadmill again-it is now buried in the garage plus it is very cold out there(I know, excuses-before I was out there at 5am in the middle of winter)
My only real exercise is my two zumba classes each week.
I used to walk every day with a friend and loved it- then she joined a gym so we dont walk at all now, maybe once a month at most.

Yesterday DH asked me to stop at the store to pick up a prescription. The pharmacist did not have the medicine. He is not someone who works there regularly and I went away empty handed. DH is not happy and will likely go to a different pharmacy in the future. We will see.

isnt a snuggly cat the best thing. I am typing with my snuggle bug in my lap. She wants in my lap when ever I sit down. Finally one that likes to snuggle. Cats purring is my favorite thing to help me sleep. This is Tonashi, at Christmas. I cant get a new picture because is laying on my right wrist
