@martaindale Yes, I've got sharp cheddar cheese sticks, and for the crunch factor, roasted chickpeas. I love making them because I can season them so many ways for variety.
Tonight's run was a 40 minute foundation run - 5 min Z1, 30 min Z2, 5 min Z1. This is the most frequent run I have to do (2-3x/week), and I can say I am starting to see some improvements in how far I am going in the same time frame, while staying in my zones.6 -
Congratulations @yirara ! That's awesome. I hope your surgery goes well. What is the reason for the serial lactate test? Just curious.
@marisap2010 Love those foundation runs! You are doing great.0 -
Hi all. I've been absent since I don't know when in June. I finished up June with 63 miles, which was up 2 miles from May, so that is somewhat of a win.
@quilteryoyo your vacation looks lovely and I'm glad you had a good time. I can't remember enough to comment on everyone else but I've read along in bits and pieces and thought about you all.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
07/01/22 :::: 1.7 :::: 1.7
07/02/22 :::: 7.1 :::: 8.9
07/03/22 :::: 3.2 :::: 12.0
07/04/22 :::: 0.0 :::: 12.0
07/05/22 :::: 3.1 :::: 15.1
07/06/22 :::: 1.8 :::: 16.9
Things have been challenging lately personally and professionally. So I'm just happy to have gotten out there as much as I did in the last week. Thank goodness for my friend who is a good listener and is also struggling with getting out there alone. We at least have been getting our 20 minutes in most days if not more and it's a good therapy session if nothing else.
In better updates, I kayaked about 10 miles round trip on the 4th on Lake Ontario and it was good for the soul - but challenging! Crossing a channel where boats were coming out from the bay into the lake on a busy boating day was a bit harrowing. We had to wait for an opening in traffic and then paddle like hell across a lot of wake. Fun though!
Today I got a delivery of new trail shoes that I'm excited about but a little concerned for how they'll feel. I got them on a flash sale for Spartan racing mostly, they are super grippy tread. Inov-8 X-Talons and they are very bright orange. Might run a bit narrow for me so we'll see how it goes. Maybe this will motivate me to get out on the trails this weekend to try them out.

Where is @7lenny7 ?2

5 miles at 5 this morning bringing me to 16.03 miles for July. It was quite the sweat fest.
Yay for running 10K @yirara. I hope all goes well with your surgery.
@marisap2010 – I’ve never heard of roasted chickpeas. I need to google directions for roasting those. Nice to be able to see improvements with your training runs.
Good to see you @katharmonic. Hugs for the challenges thrown at you lately. Your kayaking trip sounds fun and challenging! Never heard of that shoe brand but if they have a narrow fit they definitely aren’t for me.
Good question @SummerSkier. I’ve been looking for his race report.
1 -
Thanks @katharmonic . Glad to see that you are getting out there nearly every day and so good that you have a friend to share with. I hope the shoes work out for you.
I agree with @SummerSkier and was also wondering about @rheddmobile .1 -

I can see he is running on Strava so probably just busy.
@marisap2010 Roasted chickpeas are sooo good. Such a nice crunch!4 -
July total: 33.4/110 Miles
7/2: 10 miles
7/3: 4 miles
7/4: 5.2 miles
7/5: 5.1 miles
7/6: 6.1 miles
7/7: 3 miles
Run this morning was nice and easy. And got to see the sunrise just as I was finishing.
I have had an easier time this week with the running schedule. I think the 6 days a week isn't a problem in and of itself. It's more the variability in the schedule from week to week. This week I have been able to do every run in the morning. Some weeks I am alternating nights and mornings or doing most runs at night. That seems a lot harder.
I received an email that my treadmill is ready for delivery, so trying to get that set up asap. That would let me run in the afternoon when I can't make the mornings work. I think it will help a lot as I won't be finishing a run and then basically going straight to bed. And I won't have to deal with 100 F+ heat indexes. Fingers crossed for early next week!9 -
So this month marks the big jump into my hal higdon plan!!! I have 2 10k, 2 hm and then dublin marathon on 30th October..... dunno why I've done this to myself...

02/07 - 9.5km (9.6km done, 100.9left). More of a walk with running breaks but I covered the planned distance pretty close to planned time!
05/07 - 5km (6km trail done, 94.9left). Was a nice day out and legs felt good so only a few walking breaks up the steeper hills!!!
07/07 - 5km (7km done, 87.9 left). Really didn't plan on going so far.... but legs were happy and the weather was nice... but my right knee is not too impressed.... so might need to ice it today! Really don't want to get injured already.....

Our weather is really disappointing, we are getting heavy mist every day while the rest of the country are getting sunshine. It makes it dangerous for running as cars cant see you. Got out this evening when it lifted a but. Hopefully pick up at the weekend,
01/07 2.60 miles
02/07 2.60 miles
07/07 2.75 miles
Total 7.95/30 miles
@quilteryoyo - your photos are lovely. They used to show rocket launches on tv here yeeears ago but its unheard of now. I think the more channels we have the less you see!5 -
July Goal: 110 Miles
7/1: 2.02 miles
7/3: 10.26 miles
7/5: 6.02 miles
7/6: 6.02 miles
7/7: 7.06 miles
31.38/110 miles completed for July
I didn't sleep well last night and woke up earlier than usual so I got out early and ran 7 miles. It was about 83°F at 5:00 am. I have lived in Texas all my life, but it is still hard to believe that 83° is the coolest part of the day. I did get to run through some sprinklers at the courthouse. And I stopped to give Lilly/Sunny some carrots. It was a pretty good run. I had a lot on my mind and felt like I had sorted through most of it by the time I got home.
I have also been wondering about @rheddmobile.
6 -
@rheddmobile (and @7lenny7) are active on Strava, probably just a lot going on.4
-
Yeah for the treadmill @martaindale ! It is hard to get out when you don't have a set schedule. I struggle with that a lot.
@Mari33a I hope your weather improves. I agree that the more channels we have the less we seem to actually see. Plus, rocket launches aren't really news anymore - even though I think they should be. Wonder if there is a NASA channel, or other one since most of the launches are now commercial, that shows them all? I might have to research that a bit.
@kgirlhart Glad your run allowed you to work through some things.
Thanks @Scott6255 for letting us know about @rheddmobile and @7lenny7 . Hopefully they will be back to join us soon.

6.5 sneasy miles this morning. Just gross outside.

Rest day today from running but I did some strength training before work this morning. Yesterday evening was the Bear Race at Grandfather Mountain. It's basically a 5 mile race that is uphill every...single...step. It is very popular and sells out within minutes of the registration site opening. I ran it last year but passed on doing it again this year. Two of my best friends were registered for it. Unfortunately, it was canceled due to this tragedy:
https://wlos.com/news/local/1-dead-3-injured-after-van-plows-into-runners-at-the-bear-race-in-linville-grandfather-mountain-highland-games-avery-county
My two friends were standing in this area when one of them remembered she had left her buff in the car and they walked back to get it. As they were returning, they saw the accident happen.6 -
Wow @Teresa502 that is awful God was looking down on your friends tho.1
-
@Theresa502 that is terrible. Thank goodness ur friends are safe. Cud cud have been devastating for you.1
-
@Scott6255 I applaud you for doing 6.5 MILES when it was sneasy.
@Teresa502 I heard about that accident and was wondering if you were there. I thought you had run it last year. So glad your friends had left the area. I feel so badly for all that were involved.1 -
@Teresa502 That is so awful. I am glad your friends are ok.
1 -
@Teresa502 That is awful!
Thursday was another foundation run, but it was about 10 degrees warmer, definitely impacting my pace.
Yesterday morning called for hill repeats. 5 min Z1, 5 min Z2, then 10x (30s Z5 uphill, 1:30 Z1 down), 5 min Z1. I made sure to do those early to combat the daily heat and storms.
Speaking of storms, it appears lightning came through our cable/internet line while I was at work Thursday and fried some of our tvs, even though they were in surge protectors. Cable/internet company can’t come until tomorrow afternoon to look at the line. Working on making a claim through the surge protector company, and one of our tvs should still be under warranty.5 -
Holy hell. It felt like it was 1000 degrees outside. I had no energy, and my legs felt like lead. Just had to bail at 7.5 miles. May try to do a treadmill run later.
6 -
@marisap2010 Great running. Sorry to hear about the lightning damage.
@Scott6255 Sorry you had to bail on your run due to the heat, but glad you stopped and didn't try to push through it. Sometimes we/I are/am horrible about listening to what our bodies are trying to tell us.4 -
As fellow runners, I knew you all would especially understand the tragedy at the Bear race. I thank God that he was watching out over my friends. I did not know the lady who died. She was from North Carolina. The driver of the van was an 80-year old man who worked for the race and had been shuttling volunteers and other workers up the mountain prior to the start of the race. It appears that he mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake. I can't imagine what he is going through.
I got out before the rain hit this morning and ran 5.26 miles followed by a 1.63 mile walk that included stopping to pick some blackberries. A couple of large dogs came out and started following me and almost tripped me up twice. One was a Great Pyrenese. Not sure what the other was but he was just as big. I was heading towards a house that had several small dogs and the owner usually lets them out in the morning. They always come out to greet me but don't follow me too far and their owner usually comes out and calls them back. I didn't want these 2 big dogs following me there where they might fight and injure the smaller ones. I made u-turn, as did the dogs. They kept following me past the point where they joined me and I finally had to shake a stick at them to make them stop. I didn't want them to follow me home because my cat was outside and I feared for her. We don't have a leash law in the county where I live so dogs are free to roam wherever they please. Not sure where the dogs live as I've encountered them before at a couple of different places.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

@Teresa502 I heard that news this morning - that the man was a volunteer and it was a tragic accident. I know he and his family have to feel awful and he'll probably never get over it either. I feel for everyone involved and again am glad that your friends were okay, even though I am sure they are still shaken up too. Great running. I hope the dogs went home. Are there sheep or goats in your area. Sounds like they may be herd protectors from somewhere....except they shouldn't have left their post. LOL
@AlphaHowls Congratulations on your 7 year MFP-anniversary. Are you running outdoors in those "excessive heat warnings?" Be careful out there.
I was tired, but mostly lazy today. I don't know if it was weather or what, but mom and I were both in a mood and just didn't want to do much, so we did very little. LOL I did make myself do a mile walk on the treadmill this afternoon and I redid my running schedule. I plan to get back into the 10K program I was doing before FL. I'm picking it up at the week I did before I left and carrying on from there. If I do, I should finish up right around my birthday...4 Aug. I have decided to not sign up for a race, but will run 10K on my own near that date, depending on the weather and life circumstances.5 -

Unless it is freezing or lightening or I am at work, I spend much of my time outside. Starting around 4 AM helps me acclimate.

@Teresa502 That is so tragic. I am grateful your friends are ok.
@Scott6255 It is so brutal outside! Finished setting up my treadmill earlier today so I'm planning on a test run tomorrow!

July total: 41.4/110 Miles
7/2: 10 miles
7/3: 4 miles
7/4: 5.2 miles
7/5: 5.1 miles
7/6: 6.1 miles
7/7: 3 miles
7/9: 8 miles
OMG is it hot! It was 80F feels like 86F and 97% humidity at 7am when I headed out. By the time I made it back the heat index was definitely up into the 90s. I made it about 1.25 miles before I realized I was going to have to walk some to make this run happen. From that point I took a short walk break every half mile to let my HR recover. I managed to run the last mile and got lucky with a couple of sprinklers. Brutal and slow but done!
Now that my treadmill is all set up I'm going to sleep in tomorrow and give it a test run. It will be nice to not set an alarm. I've really missed getting to sleep in on Sunday and I could really use it.5 -
Today was a busy day workout-wise. I started with my Pump class at the gym, and then a friend and I went to a yoga class held in the green space at one of the breweries. Run-wise, today was a recovery run (stay in Z1), so I did an easy jog/walk this evening for two miles.
6 -
@AlphaHowls That's great and you are right. If you are outside a lot, or don't use/have AC, it is easier to get out in hotter conditions. Not easy. But easier.
@martaindale Love the new treadmill! It looks like an updated version of the one I have. Mine is probably 14 or 15 years old. Is it IFit? Are you going to use that feature. I never did, but wish I had at least given it a try. Great running in that heat.
Nice exercise day @marisap2010 !3
