It was 104 out yesterday afternoon. But I have purposely been making myself walk in the evenings after work when it has been high 90's or 100 so altho it was brutal in the sun I have found some routes that have a little more shade and I am somewhat acclimated.
I am up to 49 miles for the month and my plan to be speedier is actually not working but I am just going with what it feels like i can do. My cadence yesterday was slower and it was because I decided to do a longer run and just listen to random music and not the ones with 175-180 bpm like I normally do to try to keep faster.
Reading everything!7 -
Today’s long run was 8 miles. It was about 76 degrees and humid, but overcast for the first 6 miles, so not awful. My pace in Z2 was better than it has been for most of my recent runs in that zone, so I’m feeling really good about that.5
-
03.06 4.01km in 7:52/km - 14 stride repeats
04.06 4.50km in 7:48/km - 5 min faster run
06.06 10.0km in 8:05/km
10.06 3.00km in 7:41/km - 8 stride repeats
21.51/70km, 1.1km behind goal
The next few runs will be relaxed and not too long. My official running programme ends next week with... well, the 10k that I did this week already thus a bit of de-loading. And I'm having a serial lactate test at the end of the week to see if there's a reason for my exercise intolerance. I don't want to get sick now and postpone the test. Surgery went well. It's just a tiny cut, straight through my lower lip. But yeah.. we do an awful lot with our lips, so I didn't run for a few days to let things heal.5 -
July total: 44.5/110 Miles
7/2: 10 miles
7/3: 4 miles
7/4: 5.2 miles
7/5: 5.1 miles
7/6: 6.1 miles
7/7: 3 miles
7/9: 8 miles
7/10: 3.1 miles
I took my treadmill for the inaugural run today. Yes, @quilteryoyo it's a NordicTrack ifit. I actually used one of the guided runs today. Tommy Rivs did a series in Switzerland and there was a 3 mile recovery run as a part of it. Perfect! It was pretty cool to see the sights and it gave the feel of running with someone. I like how it varies the incline to the terrain. I might hang onto the ifit service through the summer. While I may not use them all the time it seems like a way to mix it up. But definitely not worth the $ for the rest of the year.
BTW my cats are very unsure about the treadmill and all the noises that come from it. I really appreciated an escape from the heat!6 -
It's great that you get out for a walk in the evening @SummerSkier even if it is hotter than hades. You are so consistent with your running too. Like you, I don't worry too much about speed in the summer heat...heck, I don't worry about it too much anyway.
You're doing great with the plan @marisap2010 !
You are doing great @yirara . Not sure what your surgery was for...guess I missed that. I hope your lip heals quickly...and that the lactate test gives you the information you are looking for.
I'm glad you enjoyed your treadmill run @martaindale. Even though I never used the IFit on line service, I really like the programs that are loaded and how it automatically changes the incline (and some the pace) so you don't have to worry about that. I haven't used the training one's lately - that change pace. I just use it to "race a pack" so I get some variation in incline and control my own pace.

I have finally figured up some sort of plan for the rest of the month. My goal will be 70 miles total of walking and running. Probably won't make it since I've only gotten in 13 miles so far, but it's something to shoot for.5
-
July Goal: 110 Miles
7/1: 2.02 miles
7/3: 10.26 miles
7/5: 6.02 miles
7/6: 6.02 miles
7/7: 7.06 miles
7/10: 10.02 miles
41.40/110 miles completed for July
It has been unbearably hot lately. But I got out about 6:45 and it was only 75°F. It was 84° feels like 87° when I finished. It got up to 104° and it is still 100° at 8:45 pm, so I guess I beat the heat. It wasn't a bad run, just hot. I ran 10 miles. I did see two jackrabbits in the cemetery. And I stopped to see Lilly/Sunny. My water bottle was leaking so I ran out of water, but luckily I was pretty close to home by the time I ran out.
3 -
Nice running @kgirlhart . Those temperatures are horrible though. You did great to beat the heat. Sorry about your water bottle leaking, but glad that you didn't run out earlier in your run.1

Hi all, I'm Tarun (from London 🇬🇧 ). I'm into running. (I have run 2x Half Marathons, and a Personal best distance of 16M). Unsure if I will do a full 26.2M one yet. I enjoy travelling and running wherever I go. No July specific goals but I've set myself a goal of 1500 Miles for the Calendar year (so you could say 125M). May be a bit ambitious! (Currently on 843M). Please add me on my MFP and/or Strava https://www.strava.com/athletes/53345216

I gout out a bit later than normal this morning but temperature was a nice 63F and the humidity wasn't bad at 83%. I don't know how some of you with those 100+ temperatures do it! I ran 5.19 miles bringing my total to 26.48 miles for the month.
Welcome @tarun_yadavA!
Love the new treadmill @martaindale and the interactive programs!3 -

I found a new neighborhood trail yesterday while messing around with strava routes. It runs along another section of the bayou that courses through this area. From my house it is a nice 5 mile out and back, so a good distance I use fairly often and can add onto other routes I use for longer runs. Unfortunately it turned out to be really exposed. There aren’t as many trees as my usual trail and the sun is in a bad position for the morning. But it was nice to run somewhere new. So, I’ll tuck this one away for when it cools off. It will come in handy as my marathon training plan kicks in. Our heat wave is peaking. At 7am it was already 82F feels like 89F. Come on! The sun is barely up at that point. Aside from the heat, the run was fine. I am majorly adjusting my paces and making sure to freeze my hydration pack. I’ll be on the treadmill for the rest of the week because of work schedule, which is actually a bit of a relief.
Welcome @tarun_yadavA!
@kgirlhart The temps have just been insane! We hit 105F with a heat index of 116F yesterday! It was still 100F with a heat index of 103F when I headed to bed at 9pm. Ridiculousness!! Luckily that seems to be a bit of a peak and now we headed back into normal levels of hot aka 102F highs.4 -
Hi all. It's me Elise. Not running or walking yet. Sorting out SI joint dysfunction. I just saw the DUMBEST FB post from Wynnewood OK., My neighbours to the North less than an hour away. IDK if they'll turn this in to a Netflix original but it is up there with Tiger King. BTW. The locals kinda like Joe.
Initially, I thought "no way I'm reading this long post"... but I couldn't stop. The original post can be found on Southern Oklahoma Uncensored Scanner Feeds on FB. I bet this makes national news.Save Wynnewood
14h ·
Wynnewood P.D. Officer Brandon Cross is on suspension. And rightly so.
Why? For a barely discovered instance of gross dereliction of duty, that's why.
As Mayor Anne Giltner's long time pick to be her next appointed chief of police, Officer Cross apparently felt he already had the authority to instruct the staff of a local business to discard the physical remains of a human birth that occurred in a public restroom on June 29.
Into the trash.
Without inspecting it.
Without calling in medical assistance or investigative backup.
And afterward he didn't even bother filing a report nor briefing his chain of command.
Yes, we're serious.
The actual head of the police department, elected City Marshal Ken Moore, (who has been certified by the council as the Chief of Police since 2003) only discovered the baby-in-the-trash fiasco after returning to work after the July 4th holiday.
Ken was in fact informed by his counterparts at both the Garvin and Murray County Sheriffs Departments rather than his own man as Cross answers directly to Mayor Anne Giltner now and no longer respects any Aldermanic Government Form chain of command.
By then, weekly trash service had commenced, depositing bio hazardous waste material into the local landfill. Said 'material' was either an unsaveable early term fetus, a workable, viable fetus or a near term baby left to expire and be feasted on by rodents and scavenging birds. The thought is a horrific one.
In any instance, the body was the chief piece of evidence in a homicide scene, or should have been. This is a most basic theory of sound police work.
All human deaths regardless of age much be vetted to some degree by an appropriate agency in Oklahoma to prevent undetected homicide. It's State Law.
It's taught on day one hour one of the CLEET police academy. But apparently not this time.
Officer Cross, who is also a member of the local volunteer fire department, didn't even make any attempt to identify the woman who gave birth either, or find her whereabouts. This despite being shown proof that the woman had lost a remarkable amount of blood, far more than an average birth. She was likely in distress.
City Marshal / Chief Moore along with the staff of the local business and deputies now privy to the incident were understandably horrified and began doing what they could to backtrack through almost a week of time.
A woman had come to our town and given birth, either accidentally or intentionally but Cross' actions likely prevented ever knowing if the matter was a spontaneous (natural) abortion, an intentional act of abortion, the result of narcotics use, an accident, illness or for any other reason.
Furthermore, there is currently no way to determine -- since Cross flatly refused to look at the remains -- whether the fetus in question was an early, largely undeveloped fetus, or a viable one that should have undergone life saving measures.
His squeamish incompetence prevented ever knowing if the actions in the restroom constituted manslaughter. It also made it highly unlikely that any ancillary agency such as the OSBI would ever take up the matter after the fact.
Staff members who remain traumatized by the incident are only left to wonder how developed the fetus actually was. Eye witnesses described it as 'heavy' in a garbage bag but acknowledged that the bag appeared to contain a ruptured placenta, a length of umbilical cord and a fetus wrapped in multiple layers of blood soaked paper which could have created an inflated perception of size.
Staff members stated they hesitated to look themselves prior to the arrival of police as they did not want to disturb the scene itself, a very responsible action by the staff. Afterwards they were shocked at Brandon Cross's apathy and simply went through the motions of cleaning up the horrendous death scene.
But what should have been a routine occurrence dealt with by trained individuals has now potentially given Wynnewood another black eye.
Although investigation continues to positively identify the woman who gave birth and to determine how far along she was in her pregnancy, odds are slim that the entirety of the situation will ever be known.
Because of one inept police officer fixated on power and control.
That fact is very simply a matter of the destruction of evidence hampering an investigation, a cardinal sin for a commissioned law enforcement officer. Especially one with a storied past who is currently not allowed to file criminal charges in the 21st Judicial District already. This is because despite his being acquitted of two felony sex crimes, the DA's office simply no longer trusts him. And they've told him so.
This is the same officer who held up the legal transportation of a corpse from a hospice care scene for two hours last year. Just because he thought he could.
With all of this in mind City Marshal Ken Moore and Assistant Chief Rusty Cannon both recommended to Anne Giltner that Cross be immediately fired.
Nonetheless, Anne Giltner did not fire Cross, but instead placed him on PAID administrative leave pending the outcome of any remaining investigative efforts.
This decision just before a historic vote to unfund the City Marshal's position in City Government where Mayor Giltner would be free to appoint Brandon Cross as chief.
It's also 24 hours before the last legal hurdle is cleared to facilitate a civil injunction against her for illegally serving as mayor while living outside the city limits.
The mess is also one of history repeating itself, almost as if the citizens of Wynnewood learned nothing about the events from 1985-87 where two competing police departments in two competing forms of government feuded right out in the brick streets to the dismay of neighboring communities.
Save us all the trouble, Brandon Cross, just go. And please take your foul mouthed tradition ruining mayor along with you.

Wow Elise @swenson19d you always seem to come up with the off-the-wall weirdness (that's a compliment). That story is outrageous! Yes, it does sound like a Netflix doc.
So glad you got your treadmill @martaindale! Looks like you set it up nicely to view the TV That will make the time go by quickly.

Welcome @tarun_yadavA nice goal!
Nice to see you @swenson19d
Glad you like the treadmil @martaindale ... it will be great to have for the next few months. I have to say mine, although I ended up sick of it, was a lifesaver during lockdown.
I'm plodding on, they finally did my dad's MRI and told us everything is 'stable' which is a relief in one way but doesn't explain the sudden extreme aging etc. I'm suspecting if the cancer isn't back it must be dementia kicking in. Add to that a teenager with 3 months off school, an annoying husband, work, housework etc etc etc and yeah, plodding on.
I've been focusing on getting more elevation in recently before the mileage increases. As of this week the mid-week and long runs starts to get longer.
Going to be a loooong hot summer! But, I have watermelon. And new shoes. I will post shoe porn when I can take a photo without the OH noticing lol. I found a good deal on a pair of Brooks Cascadia 16, they arrived this morning (while he was at work, luckily!) but I can't try them until Wednesday. I've also ordered a pair of Hoka Bondi with the credit from the dodgy Speedgoats. Rest days are dangerous!8 -
Hey everyone! It's been busy here, not much running, other than leading groups of kids at camp (and their counselors) around for morning running group.
More on camp running:It was fun, although not really your average summer camp, as all of the children live in children's homes and have had some difficult experiences.I'm feeling good this week, but recent health issues have me somewhat scared to try to get back to my normal running/exercising, even though my doctor also specializes in sports cardiology and has no problem with me running if I feel up to it. It's more that I don't want to overdo it and drop back into exhaustion again. So I plan to try some easy running tomorrow - maybe even some C25K-level stuff if that's what feels right.
Kids are funny when it comes to running. They love to start out super fast and then drop down to zero when they run out of steam. Others seem to be afraid of running, and walk the whole way. So I start out my daily "Keys to Running and Life" with "Endurance", stressing that they need to run slowly on the first day. The other days are "Balance", "Fitness", "Teamwork", "Enjoyment" and "Reward", but I have about 6 other "keys" I'll pull out for the next camp where there may be repeat attendees. On another day we ran with 15-second fast/slow intervals. Another day we ran the 700- or 400-meter route (they choose their distance) in the opposite direction. And one day I turned the route into an obstacle course. The last day was a race on the shorter course, and then I gave out medals for the ones who came at least 5 (out of 6) days. Every day starts out with a different dynamic warmup, usually disguised as a game. I had about 1/3 of the camp get a medal, which is great for an optional morning exercise group.
Today I rode my bike to a meeting, where we set up for a LEGO festival we're helping with this week. So far, so good.8 -

04.06 4.50km in 7:48/km - 5 min faster run
06.06 10.0km in 8:05/km
10.06 3.00km in 7:41/km - 8 stride repeats
11.06 2.07km in 7:38/km
11.06 1.00km in 6.55/km
24.59/70km, 0.2km behind goal
Recovery week, and I'm restless. Thus my relaxed slow run turned into a too fast start. Took a short break after 2km, and did a 1km sprint-ish kind of thing. But at least I didn't run long, exactly as I'd hoped.3 -
Good to see you all too. Thanks for the kind welcome.
Here's a snoring Kevin and Brudah Bear with his new buddy Mallory (Tater tot) to undo some of the trauma imposed by sharing the traumatic dipshittery of Southern OK. It is just unbelievable.
@Scott6255 well. Guess I'm special like that, sharing the oddness. I got an ASD diagnosis in January and ADHD in June. Odd, special... I'll take it 😉.
I took a year off nursing school to rehab. Spent that academic year in a masters programme in psychology. Did me some good. After nursing, I'm not sure what I'll do. Suppose I'll leave that up to my joints. Toss up between Clinical Psychology at UNT or TWU's counselling psych (both PhD's) or masters or doctors in nursing. I want to do the critical care path to DNAP (doc of nurse anaesthesia practice). Dh thinks I'm just going to go to school the rest of my life... and perhaps so. Why not?
Still doing violin.7 -
I am so sleepy this evening. Someone send me some energy to go do my run because otherwise I'll have a two run day later this week.5
-
Welcome @tarun_yadavA ! You have a lofty goal for the year.
Nice morning run @Teresa502 .
@martaindale Yeah for finding a new trail to add to your running. The treadmill is a lifesaver for me in the heat and cold.
@swenson19d That is a weird thing that happened. Politics!
@eleanorhawkins You are doing great with your plodding. Sounds like a lot of things are tough for you right now. Hang in there. Look forward to the shoe porn.
@polskagirl01 Sounds like you made the camp running fun. Glad you are feeling good and there is nothing wrong with reigning it back until you see what your body will allow you to do. Hopefully, it won't balk and you can get back to your old running self soon.
You are doing great @yirara !
Love the pictures @swenson19d .
@marisap2010 You can have all of my energy that I have left, which isn't much, but you are welcome to it!
I agreed to open at daycare to day, but told the director I would like to leave at 1 if possible, so I could help my neighbor build an electric fence around part of mom's garden today. I didn't sleep well and was only in bed for about 4.5 hours, so not much sleep at all. I worked at daycare from 6:30 - 1:20, and then my neighbor and I built fence at mom's for about 2.5 hours. Someone who knew what they were doing could have probably done it in half the time, but we were learning as we went. I was really tired when we finished, so I came home and went out to do a wun on the driveway instead of the planned Long Interval Run. I actually felt better than expected and went 2 slow miles. Tomorrow is another day.5 -
6 treadmill miles this evening. Just plodding along.

I met a couple of friends for a 5 mile run this morning. The temp was a nice 66F but humidity was 97% so definitely a sweaty one. The moon was absolutely beautiful as I was leaving my house.
If anyone is looking for a new Garmin device, Amazon has some on sale today for Prime Day. Just scanning, they seem like really good deals. Not sure how prime days work - do you have to be a prime subscriber (which I'm not but might be worth it if the discount is good enough)?2 -

@Teresa502 I think so... Amazon Spain, and I'd assume others, give you a free 30 day trial on Prime which is awesome as long as you remember to cancel it before they charge you after that, might be worth checking to see if that's available? It resets after a while too, think I've done it 2 or 3 times over the last few years!2 -

01/07 2.60 miles
02/07 2.60 miles
07/07 2.75 miles
12/07 2.75 miles
Total 10.70/30 miles

I ended up going to bed shortly after my post last night and did not run. I ran yesterday's run this morning and will run today's run tomorrow morning, followed by tomorrow's run in the evening. That is the plan at least. 3.24 miles this morning.I also went to Pump tonight.
