Holy hell. It felt like it was 1000 degrees outside. I had no energy, and my legs felt like lead. Just had to bail at 7.5 miles. May try to do a treadmill run later.

@marisap2010 Great running. Sorry to hear about the lightning damage.
@Scott6255 Sorry you had to bail on your run due to the heat, but glad you stopped and didn't try to push through it. Sometimes we/I are/am horrible about listening to what our bodies are trying to tell us.4 -
As fellow runners, I knew you all would especially understand the tragedy at the Bear race. I thank God that he was watching out over my friends. I did not know the lady who died. She was from North Carolina. The driver of the van was an 80-year old man who worked for the race and had been shuttling volunteers and other workers up the mountain prior to the start of the race. It appears that he mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake. I can't imagine what he is going through.
I got out before the rain hit this morning and ran 5.26 miles followed by a 1.63 mile walk that included stopping to pick some blackberries. A couple of large dogs came out and started following me and almost tripped me up twice. One was a Great Pyrenese. Not sure what the other was but he was just as big. I was heading towards a house that had several small dogs and the owner usually lets them out in the morning. They always come out to greet me but don't follow me too far and their owner usually comes out and calls them back. I didn't want these 2 big dogs following me there where they might fight and injure the smaller ones. I made u-turn, as did the dogs. They kept following me past the point where they joined me and I finally had to shake a stick at them to make them stop. I didn't want them to follow me home because my cat was outside and I feared for her. We don't have a leash law in the county where I live so dogs are free to roam wherever they please. Not sure where the dogs live as I've encountered them before at a couple of different places.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

@Teresa502 I heard that news this morning - that the man was a volunteer and it was a tragic accident. I know he and his family have to feel awful and he'll probably never get over it either. I feel for everyone involved and again am glad that your friends were okay, even though I am sure they are still shaken up too. Great running. I hope the dogs went home. Are there sheep or goats in your area. Sounds like they may be herd protectors from somewhere....except they shouldn't have left their post. LOL
@AlphaHowls Congratulations on your 7 year MFP-anniversary. Are you running outdoors in those "excessive heat warnings?" Be careful out there.
I was tired, but mostly lazy today. I don't know if it was weather or what, but mom and I were both in a mood and just didn't want to do much, so we did very little. LOL I did make myself do a mile walk on the treadmill this afternoon and I redid my running schedule. I plan to get back into the 10K program I was doing before FL. I'm picking it up at the week I did before I left and carrying on from there. If I do, I should finish up right around my birthday...4 Aug. I have decided to not sign up for a race, but will run 10K on my own near that date, depending on the weather and life circumstances.5 -

Unless it is freezing or lightening or I am at work, I spend much of my time outside. Starting around 4 AM helps me acclimate.

@Teresa502 That is so tragic. I am grateful your friends are ok.
@Scott6255 It is so brutal outside! Finished setting up my treadmill earlier today so I'm planning on a test run tomorrow!

July total: 41.4/110 Miles
7/2: 10 miles
7/3: 4 miles
7/4: 5.2 miles
7/5: 5.1 miles
7/6: 6.1 miles
7/7: 3 miles
7/9: 8 miles
OMG is it hot! It was 80F feels like 86F and 97% humidity at 7am when I headed out. By the time I made it back the heat index was definitely up into the 90s. I made it about 1.25 miles before I realized I was going to have to walk some to make this run happen. From that point I took a short walk break every half mile to let my HR recover. I managed to run the last mile and got lucky with a couple of sprinklers. Brutal and slow but done!
Now that my treadmill is all set up I'm going to sleep in tomorrow and give it a test run. It will be nice to not set an alarm. I've really missed getting to sleep in on Sunday and I could really use it.5 -
Today was a busy day workout-wise. I started with my Pump class at the gym, and then a friend and I went to a yoga class held in the green space at one of the breweries. Run-wise, today was a recovery run (stay in Z1), so I did an easy jog/walk this evening for two miles.

@AlphaHowls That's great and you are right. If you are outside a lot, or don't use/have AC, it is easier to get out in hotter conditions. Not easy. But easier.
@martaindale Love the new treadmill! It looks like an updated version of the one I have. Mine is probably 14 or 15 years old. Is it IFit? Are you going to use that feature. I never did, but wish I had at least given it a try. Great running in that heat.
Nice exercise day @marisap2010 !3 -
It was 104 out yesterday afternoon. But I have purposely been making myself walk in the evenings after work when it has been high 90's or 100 so altho it was brutal in the sun I have found some routes that have a little more shade and I am somewhat acclimated.
I am up to 49 miles for the month and my plan to be speedier is actually not working but I am just going with what it feels like i can do. My cadence yesterday was slower and it was because I decided to do a longer run and just listen to random music and not the ones with 175-180 bpm like I normally do to try to keep faster.
Reading everything!7 -
Today’s long run was 8 miles. It was about 76 degrees and humid, but overcast for the first 6 miles, so not awful. My pace in Z2 was better than it has been for most of my recent runs in that zone, so I’m feeling really good about that.5

03.06 4.01km in 7:52/km - 14 stride repeats
04.06 4.50km in 7:48/km - 5 min faster run
06.06 10.0km in 8:05/km
10.06 3.00km in 7:41/km - 8 stride repeats
21.51/70km, 1.1km behind goal
The next few runs will be relaxed and not too long. My official running programme ends next week with... well, the 10k that I did this week already thus a bit of de-loading. And I'm having a serial lactate test at the end of the week to see if there's a reason for my exercise intolerance. I don't want to get sick now and postpone the test. Surgery went well. It's just a tiny cut, straight through my lower lip. But yeah.. we do an awful lot with our lips, so I didn't run for a few days to let things heal.5 -
July total: 44.5/110 Miles
7/2: 10 miles
7/3: 4 miles
7/4: 5.2 miles
7/5: 5.1 miles
7/6: 6.1 miles
7/7: 3 miles
7/9: 8 miles
7/10: 3.1 miles
I took my treadmill for the inaugural run today. Yes, @quilteryoyo it's a NordicTrack ifit. I actually used one of the guided runs today. Tommy Rivs did a series in Switzerland and there was a 3 mile recovery run as a part of it. Perfect! It was pretty cool to see the sights and it gave the feel of running with someone. I like how it varies the incline to the terrain. I might hang onto the ifit service through the summer. While I may not use them all the time it seems like a way to mix it up. But definitely not worth the $ for the rest of the year.
BTW my cats are very unsure about the treadmill and all the noises that come from it. I really appreciated an escape from the heat!6 -
It's great that you get out for a walk in the evening @SummerSkier even if it is hotter than hades. You are so consistent with your running too. Like you, I don't worry too much about speed in the summer heat...heck, I don't worry about it too much anyway.
You're doing great with the plan @marisap2010 !
You are doing great @yirara . Not sure what your surgery was for...guess I missed that. I hope your lip heals quickly...and that the lactate test gives you the information you are looking for.
I'm glad you enjoyed your treadmill run @martaindale. Even though I never used the IFit on line service, I really like the programs that are loaded and how it automatically changes the incline (and some the pace) so you don't have to worry about that. I haven't used the training one's lately - that change pace. I just use it to "race a pack" so I get some variation in incline and control my own pace.

I have finally figured up some sort of plan for the rest of the month. My goal will be 70 miles total of walking and running. Probably won't make it since I've only gotten in 13 miles so far, but it's something to shoot for.5

July Goal: 110 Miles
7/1: 2.02 miles
7/3: 10.26 miles
7/5: 6.02 miles
7/6: 6.02 miles
7/7: 7.06 miles
7/10: 10.02 miles
41.40/110 miles completed for July
It has been unbearably hot lately. But I got out about 6:45 and it was only 75°F. It was 84° feels like 87° when I finished. It got up to 104° and it is still 100° at 8:45 pm, so I guess I beat the heat. It wasn't a bad run, just hot. I ran 10 miles. I did see two jackrabbits in the cemetery. And I stopped to see Lilly/Sunny. My water bottle was leaking so I ran out of water, but luckily I was pretty close to home by the time I ran out.

Nice running @kgirlhart . Those temperatures are horrible though. You did great to beat the heat. Sorry about your water bottle leaking, but glad that you didn't run out earlier in your run.1

Hi all, I'm Tarun (from London 🇬🇧 ). I'm into running. (I have run 2x Half Marathons, and a Personal best distance of 16M). Unsure if I will do a full 26.2M one yet. I enjoy travelling and running wherever I go. No July specific goals but I've set myself a goal of 1500 Miles for the Calendar year (so you could say 125M). May be a bit ambitious! (Currently on 843M). Please add me on my MFP and/or Strava https://www.strava.com/athletes/53345216

I gout out a bit later than normal this morning but temperature was a nice 63F and the humidity wasn't bad at 83%. I don't know how some of you with those 100+ temperatures do it! I ran 5.19 miles bringing my total to 26.48 miles for the month.
Welcome @tarun_yadavA!
Love the new treadmill @martaindale and the interactive programs!3
