SophieRosieMom wrote: »Michele - what happened to Vince's leg again? Yes, men aren't always the most "patient" patient. Sounds like you got a good deal on cherries. My neighbor across the street has a dozen blueberry bushes that have just started to ripen. She wants to make sure I come pick to my heart's content. No worries on that, lol.
UK ladies in the cooker right now - we'll be seeing it in SW WA State early next week. Projected high next Tuesday is 95. It will be hotter at my house, in June last year we had a "heat dome" of 106 plus it didn't cool off at night. Normally, even with the hot days, it cools down into the 50's at night so first thing in the morning we open windows on all 4 sides of the house to get good cross breezes going with a couple fans. Then when the outside temp starts climbing, close the house up, draw the blinds.
It's 74 in my living room right now, I have a fan going. A/C is set at 72.
Rebecca - Thank you so much for telling us about those Kodiak Power Waffles. I found them at Safeway and they are delicious, I had a blueberry power waffle for dessert tonight and it was sweet enough. It had 5 gm of "added sugar" = pure cane sugar, not that high fructose corn syrup. I figure the 3 gm of fiber and 10 gm of protein makes up for the added sugar so Dr. Lustig might let this slip by.
The waffles pretty spendy at Safeway, but I found the Kodiak Cakes Flapjack & Waffle mix at Walmart and making them like this will save a lot. I got the Cinnamon Oat flavor. Plus a person can use all milk and add an egg for extra protein. This is exactly the type of dessert I was looking for that I hope will keep me from getting hungry right before bed.
I baked a sockeye salmon filet for supper, got it on sale at Safeway this morning. DH hated the smell of cooking fish so I have been making up for lost time. I'm aiming to eat 2-3 fatty fish meals per week. I got some sardines from Amazon, will try them next week. I do like sardines canned in tomato sauce. Anything I can dump on top my mega salad works for me.
Machka - glad to see you back, we figured you were super busy.
Barbie - when will you be able to get in to see the eye doctor? Hopefully soon!
Margaret- beautiful gardens. That tour was enjoyable for sure!
Rosie got a bath this afternoon and she was a sweetie. Held pretty still and I was able to suds her up and get her well rinsed in the bathtub. She's been rolling in rabbit and deer poo and who knows what else the past week. You watch, she'll probably find some fresh stuff to roll in before bed. Dogs.
I've started reading James Patterson's auto biography on Kindle. I've been reading his Alex Cross series and everything he wrote that I can get my hands on. I love his style - 2 or 3 page chapters, tightly woven story lines.
That's the latest. Stay cool, ladies!

I have been buying this and just add to rice or salad.
Another thing I do is buy those frozen tilapia pieces. When I have ramen I like a little cooked shredded cabbage in it, so in a small pan add sesame oil, like a table spoon of water, add a handful of shredded cabbage and lay the pieces of defrosted fish on top. I like to add "everything" seasoning on top. Put lid on it and steam gently, adding more water if needed. I just lay on the noodles, with chicken broth that has some soy sauce and wasabi in it. Its so yummy!

Skimmed thread between “Creating a Fall Resistant Body” presentation at the library and line dance class. ((hugs)) and
to all.
At class, dear friend C announced she and her DH are moving back to Colorado, due his medical issues. There was only one VA neurologist in the state and when he left, they did not contact them to refer or reschedule so he was left “waiting for an appointment” for over a year. He’ll get much better care near Denver, and won’t have the 3+ hour drive to the nearest facility. Whiine. I’m very sad, first my PT, now my friend, and D, another dear friend, is contemplating a move to Rhode Island to be nearer grandkids. Left line dancing an hour early. When sweet P checked on me, I confessed my knee hurt, and my heart hurt to be losing C, then started to cry. Cried in car, cried on Joe’s sleeping shoulder, tearing up now.
Debbie glad DH got to relax and have fun at the con. Good of you to encourage him to go. Ah the wetlands make me nostalgic for the Napa valley where my favorite season was autumn.
Michele likewise good for you for dragging DH to the ER. Hope his recovery is fast.
Barbie hope the wait for an eye dr appointment is not a long one.
Welcome @Ineedtolose50lbs ! Would you remind me what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Margaretthe garden tour pics and good cooling tips.
Likewise Annie. That iced washcloth on the back of the neck also works to ward off nausea. Praying your Mom’s MRI results point to effective healing.
Carol house I grew up in had floor furnace too! Took only one experience of waffle/grid burnt sole to learn THAT lesson
Rita I’m with you about the 9 months of winter. That’s the main reason we left Idaho.
Michele, sorry to confuse. Joe wouldn’t dream of going to a comics convention, too many people. That was Debbie’s DH. DDS then lawn mowing? :noway: Hope the DDS is just a checkup. Praying for favorable followup at Baptist Hospital.
Tracey You’re right. Being able to say “No” without giving a reason is the first step in setting boundaries, both with children, and other adultsEnjoy your day off.
KJ your friend’s “cooler A/C” is brilliant!
Machka thank you so much for checking in. Was worrying. “…or at least may freak out somewhat gracefully” must have been channeling this last night when I managed to stave off my tears until I got in the car.
Vicki the price we pay for a weekend of fun. Hope your DH feels better soon.
Rebecca your mushroom, garlic, butter, white bean, chicken fettucini sounds mouthwatering! Thanks for showing me how to sneak more beans in!
Heather Bravo Johnny and yikes for your son’s London journey. Joe also has a “one thing a day” rule. I try to squeeze in more, but find I’m more relaxed the fewer things on the agenda. My sense of direction is almost always reliably 180 degrees off. Where I grew up the oceans were west, the mountains east, everything else was easy after that. Now, from our house, the ocean is north, the mountains all around, and I’m hopeless unless its left or right. I do like maps, unlike characters in Charlote Macleod mysteries who felt people with maps had to be “severely dealt with.” :laugh;
Allie sorry you have to miss your friend’s concert, but believe that’s a wise decision. Too bad they can’t broadcast/podcast/you tube/livestream it somehow.
Lanette thanks for the inspiration, have a Kodiak muffin mix I can use to make a “nut bread” for when I’m snacky. “…I do like sardines…” :noway:  Joe does, I do NOT. Expect Rosie will soon roll all that “clean” off…
And finally, belated birthday wishes dear Katla. ((hugs)) and tears and thankful you’re safe with DD and able to talk to DH. Praying he’s soon strong enough to join you.

I am always sneaking beans in things! I like the creamy texture it gives to soups or stews. My only downfall is keeping my temperature low and not boiling my broth when it has half and half in it. Its tough with my cast iron pans, they are really touchy!
The bean salad I showed Lanette is really good with my wild rice containers I make. (I premake my wild rice in my rice cooker with a splash of Annie's shiitake sesame dressing and a tablepoon of butter in the water. Then portion out 5 servings in leftover yogurt containers I have. Then just freeze them. When I want yo use them, I plop them out of the molds put in a bowl and microwave for 1 minute). Mixing the hot rice with that pre made bean and tuna is really good for a hearty lunch.

Machka you must have those guidelines memorized! I found what you are referring to. Took me a while to figure out what was said, but I get it. Federal legality is what defines the issue. Disrupts the conversation but is a rule and makes sense.

I also like these fish fillets. They aren't huge and fit nicely in a street sized flour tortilla. I "anchor" the fish fillet with 1/2 piece of pepper jack cheese that is melted🙃👍. Then I put my homemade coleslaw on it.
Also since I have you peaking in my freezer, have you tried these sweet potato blobs? You microwave these blobs and then just stir into things.

Therapist today for medication adjustment and ENT for surgery recheck tomorrow. These things are helping me lose weight! Yay! Lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks without changing my diet, just portion sizes. I hope this keeps up.On another topic, some dispensaries have flavored oils to help with pain. Mine is chocolate and I put it in my coffee when I need it. Different strengths for different things. Good to ask.

I am currently living in Illinois on our daughter’s property. I am living in our RV. It is a hot and humid outside. I’m comfortable living in our RV thanks to its wonderful air conditioner. I am enjoying our grandchildren, an older sister with two younger brothers.
DH had s serious heart attack, was in intensive care and is now living in an a nursing facility in Oregon while he heals. We talk on the phone a couple of times each day. I miss him like crazy. We manage to talk on our cell phones every day, usually in the evenings when he is resting. Sometimes it is very hard to hang up after the calls & I cry after our calls sometimes.

Heading over for another night of mother in law sitting- hoping tonight is the last one- she gets her cast off in two days.
I don't NEED to be there- I don't do anything anymore- she can use the bathroom by herself. She doesn't like doing things for herself- wants a servant to serve her/do everything for her-but that needs to stop. DH comes in about time to make her breakfast. I will just stay there, walk the dog early in the morning then come home in time for the daycare girl to come in.
Just found out a classmate of mine just passed away from breast cancer. I saw her at our last reunion and got to chat with her for a while- wish we had more time. Such a sweet lady, always.

I'm sure others will be more helpful, but I have these thoughts:
Topical CBD cream might helpful as an adjunct, also Voltaren gel is very useful for some sufferers.
Swishing with tomato juice may help with aftertaste in the mouth after tincture use.
If gelcaps are used, freezing them helps lessen burping.
Karen in Virginia
Voltaren works really well for us- only thing that has helped with my knee and hip. DH uses it as does his mom and my mom. The one we get on Amazon is the same strength as the prescription MIL was given.
EDIT
Like Rita- guess I forgot to hit post yesterday before I left.
I am not planning on any more overnights at MIL's house- she did not need my help for anything. She got up FIVE times during the night, wasn't quiet about it of course, but didn't need my help. She decided to go down stairs to use the bathroom each time instead of the commode chair that is in the living room. Slamming the door to the stairs each time. Every two hours. I would just get to sleep and she would be up again.
I finally gave up a little after 7, got dressed and walked the dog for 45 min. Was pretty chilly, especially by the river, hands were hurting/itching from the cold(Reynaud's does that) Glad I had my jacket with me this morning. Was just 60 when I was driving home so a bit colder than that when we started our walk towards Mare Island.Came back and dh was there. He had slept for 3 hours in our bed before going to work- most sleep he has had at home in 6 weeks. I packed my stuff and headed home. Didn't mention to him that daycare girl is coming in an hour later today- enjoying that hour alone with my tea.
May take daycare girl to the park
Zumba at that park tonight. Need to figure out what snacks to take for the picnic after class.
Dh picked up Carl's Jr/Hardees for breakfast for his mom but she didn't want it. She wanted leftover Chinese instead, so he sent home a biscuit and gravy and a burrito with me. Think I will have one of those an hour before class. Need to make sure I have energy for that hour class- Doing the class on the lawn is harder than inside. Lack of sleep doesn't help either.
Have a wonderful Wed.

In April 2022, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the MORE Act, a bill that would end the federal prohibition on c*nn*bis by removing it from the list of banned controlled substances. It has not yet passed in the Senate.
C*nn*bis is legal for adult use in 19 states and for medical use in 36 states, and I am not aware the Feds have clamped down on sales in the states which have legalized it.
If my discussing my husband's use of medical MJ, condoned by his physician, gets me kick off this forum, so be it.
There has been so much censorship of common sense ref C*vid this past couple years, it makes my head swim. Now, again, we are reminded that common sense and support ref a very painful disease should also be squelched.
By the way, I am aware of the "rules" and have been discussing this topic for the past few years. If anyone wants be the "rule police" and report me, feel free.

Woah, things are getting touchy in here. FYI- won’t bother me at all if anyone brings up or discusses pot or the use of it. I didn’t care for it back in the day when I used to sell it and my even when it became legal when we were living in Washington. Kirby went to one of those stores to see if it would help him with the pain he was having after his bike wreck but it didn’t help him. If it helps someone for pain or whatever element, go for it. This is a main reason why I don’t join in with all these discussions that come up here unless someone specifically asks my opinion.
If I get kicked off the group for DISCUSSING it, oh well. I’ve never read the guidelines or rules and don’t intend to start now. Putting up the link for it, isn’t going to make me look at them any quicker lolol .

I have been feeling a bit light headed today. I went out with DH to buy our favourite king prawns from the fish market and started to feel slightly dizzy.
I left DH at the cut off and walked back via the deli. I'm not sure why I'm dizzy, but came home, drank water, ate some cottage cheese and took a nap. During the nap I had a weird time shift. I thought i had been asleep for ages and it was 5 minutes. Very disorientating.
I'm afraid I indulgent in a Pernod, for the first time in 6 days. Feeling sorry for myself.
Here's hoping for a better day tomorrow.
I did get to my book this morning and edited the first chapter. Hard to believe how many mistakes and mixed metaphors. Perspective of time really helps.
Yesterday, on their walk home, Max said he would like to go for a walk with DH again. How great for an 11 year old. I think it might be the fish and chips or pizza!
My dream is to be a resource for the grandchildren. We have the most open minds imaginable! Seen it all. Been there, done that!

DH has just sent a message to my DDIL about meeting up with the grandchildren over the holidays. You have to plan these days. Everyone has such busy lives.
DH has had a parking fine for something he has no idea about. The photo has proved impossible to access. Boo! He is upset and perplexed. He must have got into the wrong lane but has no idea how. 🤔

Got a pick up date for Art Club for the girls next week. ( The cost of these things makes you weep. So glad they are not poor)
Still waiting for Max date.
They are going to Slovenia for their holiday in August..
Max has a sailing course in the Marina sometime. He loved sailing on his holiday in Greece.
It makes you think about your own childhood. Mostly spent on the streets with friends. We always had a week or two somewhere cheap where we enjoyed ourselves on the beach. My mother did her very best with limited resources.

Barbara--Sending BIG HUGS!!
Lanette--I hope you got the message I sent you. I am not real good at doing that.
Rebecca--I have never seen those mashed sweet potatoes but think I could use them alot, so will be looking for them.
Katla--I am so sorry you are having a hard time. I just pray DH is able to join you soon. Is there a chance you could move him to a rehab close to where you are? That might help both of you. Just know he is getting good care and you are with your daughter and family.
Heather--Like you growing up most our vacations were camping in a tent at the lake. Never was a lot of money and with 5 children they did the best they could.
Ladies, I love this group and one thing I really love is that we each are different and yet the same. So when things come up I enjoy learning and seeing another side to things. Please lets not judge and just enjoy and learn from each other and be open and supportive as you never know when you will be the one needing the support. And if something I have done or learned from and I share and it helps someone else that's what we are here for.

I think the thyroid meds are finally working, I'm feeling like myself more today than I have in a while. The old energy and drive helped me get back on the elliptical this morning for the first time in a long time. Hope I can sustain this.
When people are talking about a private group, we're referring to a group that can be found here: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/123702-women-ages-50 We do discuss more contentious topics there, on occasion. It is a "private" group, so if you are not already a member of the group, it will ask you to send a request and one of us will be happy to make you a member. It is slightly safer to discuss other topics there, but mainly because people who go there know there may be disagreements.
Lots of reading, not much commenting, glad for those who are doing well, hugs for those who need it, and encouragement for those who are searching for it.

Update on my life. Typing on my phone, which I hate, so just the headlines.
My mother fell about a month ago and couldn't move. Went to the hospital, where they checked nothing, transferred her to rehab. Couldn't even do PT or OT. The only ADL she can do is feed herself, if everything is cut up. She went from managing on her own to 24 hour care literally overnight.
She saw the neurologist yesterday, an appointment that we've been waiting for for five months, to evaluate her for Parkinson's. She can't sit and doesn't transport well, so an ambulance transferred her to and from the appointment. Doc said, yes, Parkinson's, but the least of her worries. He suspects she had a stroke, which caused her to fall. Much anger and frustration on our part. Ranting about the state of medical care on the peninsula on his part.
He won't treat the Parkinson's because of her orthostatic hypotension. She's no longer treating her lung cancer. Side effects intolerable. He had ordered MRIs of brain and cervical spine, but admitted that there is nothing he can do anyway, because my mom has already refused surgery on her c spine, if a fracture were found. So what's the point? Especially since it means another ambulance transfer to get there.
She had her last PT session this morning, where they tried to show her how to brush her teeth and comb her hair. We are looking for a permanent place for her.
I can't express how shocking it is. She is mentally fully functional, which in some ways makes this harder to take.
I have MRIs next week on C and T spines to check how things are looking. PT for a little lymphedema I've been having. I thought it was just my side boob, but sure enough, I've started the light touch massage she recommended, and it's already much better. I felt silly.
Plastic Surgery consult in August to talk about reducing the right side to more closely match the left, but not really ready to thing about reconstruction on the left. Still nervous about reoccurrence.
Longer than I intended. I still call my mom each day, and she is managing answering a cell phone, although calling us isn't possible. I go up every other weekend. And sometimes I kind of lie in bed with her, holding her hand, and we just doze together.
I am so sad for her. We cry together sometimes too.

Oh Allie! Congestive heart failure and heat DON'T MIX! Please be careful!
I still wish that MFP had a LAUGH react icon! Rebecca you really got to me with yours today.
I'm that way too, Heather! I know just what direction "it is" no matter where I am. It's just natural to me, but I get that it's not to most people. I will say though that in Phoenix, for some reason, I get completely turned around. North is South to me. Always has been and it messes me up every time!
Oh gosh, Katla. I can't imagine the anguish you're going through. God Bless and prayers for you and your hubby.
WORKED a bunch yesterday... LIKE A BUNCH! Worked several hours later than I "should have" but I got a lot done and it was great. Then I worked again today. Good times.
