I have read and liked as appropriate, but not enough time to comment on everyone's runs. You are all doing great!
Welcome @gibsonryan2015 !
Have fun on your trip @Teresa502 . Can't wait to hear all about your running adventures while you are there.
Love your picture from your hike @polskagirl01 !
@eleanorhawkins Oh my. I hope you are okay and they didn't just blow you off since you are a woman. Be careful and go back if you get more pain. Maybe make an appointment with your cardiologist, if you feel it is appropriate.
Congrats on reaching over 1000 miles @tarun_yadavA !
I had hoped to be able to run at New River Gorge in W. VA yesterday afternoon before my friend's retirement celebration, but life got in the way and I wasn't able to get there in time. Fortunately, I was smart enough to do a mile walk on the treadmill before I left, just in case.
Also, due to circumstances beyond my control, I didn't get to bed until 2 am last night and drove back home today, getting here around 4 pm. I was tired and hadn't eaten well on the drive, so opted for a mile walk on the driveway. That's a far cry from the 4 mile run I had planned. At least my streak is in tact. Hopefully next week will be better.8 -

First run post in August. It's been a whirlwind. So sorry to be pages behind but I only read through quickly and nodded along. Hope some of you are now getting a break from the heat, I know I did the last few days and it was wonderful.

OK, so running has been a little sporadic. The first week of August was HOT and I was swamped at work. I didn't have any pressing things scheduled in the morning on Friday so did my long run then with a friend because Saturday looked worse. I'm not sure how much worse it could have been because that was like running in a swamp. So humid. I got a major chafing burn on my thigh from where my phone was in my side pocket and rubbed the soaking wet with sweat shorts. It was really ugly and inflamed and kind of looked like a big bullseye rash. So painful. The heat also made me exhausted, and I didn't sleep well that night so I skipped Saturday's run. Sunday I tried to arrange with a friend but she had phone issues and we ended up not conecting. I decided to give my sore chafed spot another day too and skipped the run.
This week I left Tuesday for my vacation before the craziness of a new semester. I drove to Hampton Beach, NH, which I knew nothing about but had rented a condo overlooking the ocean for a few days of what I called my personal retreat. So nice to get away from work and let the away message handle things. I got one run in there on Wednesday and the nice breeze off the ocean was a treat. I drove to Maine on Thursday - only 30 minutes away (NH only has 18 miles of coast) and did two short hikes of Mt. Agamenticus (only 800 ft) and the York Cliff Walk along the ocean. Both very easy but pretty. I've never been to Maine so that was a treat.
Friday I drove to the White Mountains and met some friends to hike Mt. Osceola and East Osceola of the NH 48 4000 ft peaks. That was a great hike and a gorgeous day. Only in the 50s on the mountain. It was hard though, after not doing much serious hiking for 8 months or so.
Then today - the reason I went to New Hampshire in the first place - the New England Spartan Super (10K, about 30 obstacles). I was not really nervous but my expectations for how it would go were very low given the 6 hour hike the day before and not doing a super for over 2 years. My team was low key though, which was great. We helped each other a lot, which saved on the hundreds of burpees I would have done on my own. My grip strength has suffered in not doing these races so often. I also bruised myself up pretty good and strained my hamstring getting over the 7 foot wall (obstacle #3 I think) so I am feeling this one tonight.
So I'm exhausted but happy to have had a both relaxing and adventurous trip. Maybe relaxing at the end would have been a better plan, but the schedule didn't allow. I drive home tomorrow and then back to the real world.

Good morning everyone! Happy Sunday! Hope you all kill it today!
I got a 9K in

It’s my husband’s birthday today. The big 4-8. He is not a fan of getting older but has taken this one in stride so far. We are going to a local pizza place later today (pizza is by far his favorite food) and he has requested a skillet cookie for dessert.
I did my Sunday run on the treadmill again. I am very much enjoying regaining my 1 day to sleep in. I am figuring out that I need to make some adjustments to my workouts on the treadmill because I am running them at a slower pace than the trainers are usually and so I end up a little short on mileage. Since these are recovery runs I’m not super worried about making up the mileage nor will I speed up and make the workouts harder. But, I like to stick to my plans. Those little bits short just kind of bug me so as the treadmill figures out my pace it should get better at the mileage estimates. Until then I need to pick slightly longer runs to give me some cushion.5 -
@katharmonic That is an action packed vacation! Sounds like you had a good time.
@quilteryoyo You’re doing such a good job at maintaining your streak!1 -

This morning I was out super early to do SAG for our local half marathon training team. Watching people run by got me excited to run when I got home. I took my 10 year old daughter and found she was great for keeping my pace up a bit and keeping me going. She's been asking to go run with me for a while and I'm going to have to do this more often!
I'd like to know why putting on a sports bra isn't listed in the database as exercise. It should be. Sheesh.8 -

I had a good run today. It wasn't too bad when I started out around 7:30 it was about 75°F. But when I got home 2 hours later it was 87°F feels like 90°F and I was pretty ready to be done. It was a good run though and I ran 10 miles. I did have some mild cramping in my calves. I have almost 350 miles on my shoes so that may be the culprit. I also ran out of water so I might have been a little dehydrated. I did some yoga to stretch after the run. I forgot to stop my watch though so it thinks I did 45 minutes of yoga but it was really only about 20 minutes.
@katharmonic Sounds like a great weekend!
@rps67 I only run in sports bras that zip in the front. Getting a wet sports bra off is just too much work!

@AlphaHowls thanks for the race sign-up link. That is a great cause. I think I have done that race before because when I signed up it said I already had an account. In any case I'm signed up for this year.
Just did a 4 mile recovery run on the treadmill this afternoon.

@katharmonic That sounds like a great trip you had - running, hiking, and a spartan race. Sorry about the rash and injury though. I hope it all heals quickly and this up coming week is a lot better than you expect.
Great running @tarun_yadavA . You have a very consistent pace.
Thanks @martaindale Great job on your running and glad you are enjoying your treadmill so much. Happy Birthday to your DH! A skillet cookie sounds delicious. As you know, my birthday was on the 4th and mom's is tomorrow. My neighbor, William, made lunch for us today and dessert was a homemade Oreo Cheesecake..two of my favorite things in one. It was sooo good. Now I have 3 big pieces left. I may freeze them and only allow myself to eat it after a "long" run.
hahaha @rps67 . I agree with the sports bra being exercise sometimes. Other times it goes on great, but those days that they get half on and you think you're going to have to get the scissors out..... Glad you have found that you and your daughter are great running partners. That sounds like a great way to spend some quality time together.
Nice running @kgirlhart ! Especially in those conditions.
You are very consistent @Scott6255 .
Since I haven't run in the last couple of days and I had a little bit of extra time before lunch, I went out and did a recovery run on the driveway. I ran 2.00 miles and walked a total of 0.75 miles for warm up and cool down. I meant to stop the cool down walk at 0.35 miles, but my brain had checked out and 0.40 miles it was. LOL That makes my total for the month 29.05 mile/62 mile goal.

I have been so swamped with work this week, so I have been reading but haven't posted or commented in several days. In fact, I've been working again today and will get back to it in a few minutes, but I wanted to share that I ran 20 miles today and it sucked much less than last week's 18!
I ended up splitting it into two runs today, one reason being that I had work to do - 14 this morning and 6 this afternoon. I know that is cheating a bit, but my legs were still tired from this morning, so it definitely wasn't super easy. However, overall it only took me 4 minutes longer today to run 20 than it did to run 18 last week. I think it helped dramatically that the weather was cooler and much less humid. All of my runs moving forward except for next weekend and the weekend before the marathon are between 16-20 miles, so I'm hoping they'll all work out as well as today.
@AlphaHowls I signed up for that race a couple of days ago. I did it last year as well and then forgot about it and was confused when I got a medal in the mail!
@katharmonic Sounds like a great trip!

Aww man... they only ship to US addresses. I mean, I suspected that would be the case - they are trying to raise money for their cause, after all. Oh, and I'm not supposed to be signing up for new races. Oops.5 -
I drove to the forest, intending to try Day 1 on this plan:I shifted days to start with Sunday, so today would've been Tuesday's workout.which, those of you who are in my MFP feed will recognize as the [in]famous "2 weeks to a 10k" plan published by Runner's World. I think we agreed that it's not the wisest plan to put out there, as it's going to lead a bunch of beginners and other impulsive last-minute people to getting injured or hating running. But for someone who does already actually run, maybe it's ok. Apparently today wasn't my day though, as I can barely even check off the warmup and cooldown (2 miles each seems excessive, or maybe M meant minutes and I messed it all up?). I wasn't feeling great running, but did slow down for long, extended walk intervals with sporadic spurts of jogging, and finished ok. I'll take it, as it got me moving, even though it was a fail according to that particular plan.
The forest was lovely today. Only one instance of "sometimes I feel like, somebody's watching me" 👀
Regarding fitness levels, I was analyzing my chart in the Suunto app (that they get via partnership with TrainingPeaks, so while I don't use TrainingPeaks, I imagine you could find cool stats like this there if you don't have a Suunto watch), and it's fascinating. I plan to do my best to get that fitness line to go back up, slowly but surely.6 -

If you google, there are versions in other countries. I've done the Spanish one a few times, but we don't get bling. There's an in-person race too, but that's the opposite end of the country to me.0 -

Thursday is my anniversary, so I am taking Thursday and Friday as vacation days and I moved Thursday's run to today. I ran 5.5 miles. I was really slow starting out. I guess I was tired from yesterday's run. But the run turned out to be pretty good. I saw 2 different skunks today. One was near my house and the other about a mile away. And I saw 3 deer near the park. I haven't seen any deer lately. They were so pretty.

Overall uneventful runs the last couple of days. I was out this morning before the sun and there were so many people out! It was about 5:30am. I usually see only 1-2 people at that hour but today - 4 runners, a few walkers, and a couple of people taking their dogs out. Where did all these early risers suddenly come from? So weird.
@marisap2010 Awesome work getting your 20 miles in!
@polskagirl01 That's really interesting seeing the effect your illness has had on your fitness/recovery. There are definite peaks and valleys.
@kgirlhart Happy anniversary!4 -
No run today, but I did take the kids to the lake this afternoon, and swam laps for 17 minutes while they generally harassed me, because deep down they really do like hanging out with their mama 😆 The rest of the time was lazy swimming or sitting on the beach. I need a more comfortable beach chair.6
-
@marisap2010 that is so great that you got your 20 miler done!
Happy anniversary @kgirlhart! Enjoy your day!
@tarun_yadavA you are so consistent!
Did my speed work for the week: 4 mile tempo run with .5mi WU/CD.

@martaindale Great running. Did school start back there? Maybe that is where all the folks came from. They had to be up early anyway, so why not walk the dog?
Very consistent @tarun_yadavA !
Happy Anniversary @kgirlhart ! Enjoy your trip away.
@polskagirl01 That might have been a plan fail, but it wasn't a fail for sure. You did what you could and probably more than most in your position. You are doing great! Beautiful trail.
@marisap2010 Great job on getting your 20 miles in. That looks like an intense schedule leading up to the race.
Yesterday I ran 3.00 miles and walked 0.70 for warm up and cool down. Today, I did a 2 mile wun after work. That brings my total for the month to 34.75/62 miles goal.6 -
