As part of the Holiday Challenge, I needed to run the Great Pumpkin 5K this week so I headed out around 7:00 am and got that done. My time was slower than I would have liked it to have been, but grateful I was able to get outside and run it.
What a beautiful place to run @tarun_yadavA!
@Teresa502 thank you! And well done on your early AM 5k2 -

to me - shin splint always equals NEW SHOES required. If @Fit2btied2016 try using shoes with a lower heel for a while to help also.
11/1 5.01 Cum 5.01 out of 120 goal
11/2 4.15 Cum 9.16 out of 120 total
I need to avg 3.7 miles per day to hit my 1500 goal for the year but today I am pretty tired so probably a rest day. I mean even my fitbit is telling me I should take it easy. I think the tennis in the evening is a lot harder work than it used to be...5 -
Yep, I hear you @SummerSkier...EVERYTHING is a lot harder than it used to be! But you are doing great!
6.3 miles this morning. It was all I could do just to get to a slow jog (slog). I'm not feeling confident in getting through my 20 miler on Saturday.

11/1 16.58 miles, Running Partner A
11/2 15.42 miles
11/3 15.56 miles, Running Partner A
Today's giggle:
Neighbor up the way, sits on his porch in the early morning hours and smokes. I often hear him coughing and just say, "good morning" as I pass. He will say same to me. This morning, I hear the cough and call out "Good Morning!" and he says "morning." Pause, then I hear,
"You are an absolute machine" I bust out laughing and tool on down the road grinning.
Running in heavy fog with scent of Tennessee Smoky barn!
Twilight
Sunrise in about 20 minutes

I ran 5.19 miles before work this morning at a sleazy pace. The weather was a nice 48F. Although I was running with a couple of friends I was a little ahead of them and I heard footsteps quickly approaching behind me. I stepped to the side and turned around just as he was upon me. It was another runner but it would have been nice if he had called out that he was passing or something instead of scaring me half to death. He's lucky I didn't pull my pepper blaster out.
You can do it @Scott6255!8 -
Beautiful photos @AlphaHowls and your neighbor is spot on!2

@Scott6255 rest tomorrow and stuff your face with carbs, you've got this!
@AlphaHowls he's right, you are!
@Teresa502 you should have screamed or something, teach the guy some manners.
After 10 days off (specific recovery plan called for no running for 10 days after racing) I finally went out for a little trot this morning. Had been cycling, doing yoga, bit of walking, then resumed strength training the other day which made my leg hurt (*rolls eyes*) but was getting to the point of climbing the walls.
It felt ok, nothing hurt, I probably overdid it a bit as it was meant to be a gentle recovery run but I met a lady who might join me on runs sometimes so we did a little tour of the local trail runners' 'playground', a short loop over a couple of hills. Was slow as we walked the uphill parts and made a detour to avoid the really steep sandy hill I call Nemesis as her shoes were not grippy enough for that and I didn't want her biting the dust on her first day out with me 😂
Will head out for an hour on Saturday, looking forward to it already!6 -

Yes, that is my plan. Have been eating more carbs this whole week in anticipation.
Thanks @eleanorhawkins and @Teresa502

@martaindale - I live in a very rural area and don't get any trick-or-treaters so I buy candy and go to my mom's where we sit on the porch and hand it out to all the ghosts and goblins. Although it rained off and on all day yesterday, it stopped late yesterday afternoon and it was a decent evening for it. We had 98 trick or treaters visit us.quilteryoyo wrote: »As for trick or treaters, we got a lot when I was little, but once they started doing trunk or treat and things in town, no one comes around the rural neighborhoods anymore, not even the neighborhood kids.

@Scott6255 You got this! I think you'll surprise yourself.
@eleanorhawkins I'm so glad you managed a meetup with one of the local ladies. I hope this can be a regular thing for you!
That's a scenic spot for sure @tarun_yadavA! Hope you are enjoying your trip!3 -
November total: 15/200 miles
11/1: 5 miles
11/3: 10 miles
Another marathon tempo run today. It was warm again (70F & 95% humidity!!) so I adjusted the pace a little having learned my lesson from pushing the pace in the heat earlier in this training plan. It was a super sweaty run but managed a pretty consistent pace. I even fast finished the last couple miles again. It was really cloudy so the sunrise made some crazy maroon and orange colors, which was so cool. I love that time as the sun is coming up.7 -

I managed to do 35 minutes of the Iron Strength for Runners workout this morning before I decided I was too tired to finish. I'm packing up the car and heading to Hilton Head Island in the morning for a week and am planning to stop off for a run along the way. I got this idea from @7lenny7 and @skippygirlsmom both of whom I'm missing on this thread! Along with @ContraryMaryMary and @Avidkeo and @katharmonic and @mari33a and others!7

Just make sure you are packing if you don't have someone or a dog with you. I really used to enjoy getting out and running on vacations or on the way to them but they was when I had an SO. Now I am too chicken.3 -
Dang - you guys are an inspiring bunch!
11/1 5.01 Cum 5.01 out of 120 goal
11/2 4.15 Cum 9.16 out of 120 total
11/3 2.01 Cum 11.17 rest day but ran a little to keep the streak going
11/4 8.01 Cum 19.18 out of 120. Need to avg 3.63 per day to make my 1500 for the year. Currently at 1293 total
Today's run was definitely different and unplanned. I just CANNOT stick to some plan or my mind rebels. I woke up after a really good 9 plus hr sleep for a day off and it was rainy. And I think the pressure change was messing with me as I had a headache. So I decided to just get breakfast and take an excedrin migraine and do some other stuff and wait for the rain to let up.
Well it sort of did around 11 so I thought looking at the radar I could sneak 30-40 minutes in so 4 miler. Hahaha. Mother nature was laughing at me. It had rained hard enough that every single breeze had the trees dumping on me if I had to go under them. Then at mile 2 it started to rain lightly. It was warm in the 70's so I did not really mind. But by the time I was at 3 I knew I was going to get pretty soaked so I just kept going. After yesterday's light mileage the legs felt pretty good and I forgot about the headache about mile 5. My heart rate was a little higher the last few miles than I would prefer but i think that is normal for me. So altho I did manage one under 10 min pace I scaled back a little for the rest since my HR was higher (180s) than I wanted it. Altho whats funny is that even when my HR gets close to 200 I don't feel bad or like I can't breathe or am going to pass out so I guess after 64 plus years that's what it is. Other the the rain and being completely soaked to the point I had to stuff my shoes with paper towels when I got back, I really did enjoy the run and it felt relaxing that I had no specific agenda and no work to hurry off to after.
Hope everyone has a wonderful TGIF. I am still fighting this barometric change with a small headache but expect once the big front passes thru this evening it will be better. TOmorrow is supposed to be low 50s again. Scott you should have a nice weather day for your long run! So impressed. 20 miles is WAY out of my bailiwick.6 -

Nicely on schedule, and my running has gotten faster. I'll try to get in a longer run tomorrow, and then it'll be break time possibly because I'm on vacation for a week. Mostly flat landscape (yay!) and lots of wind (meh!), and lots of sightseeing and walking. Lets see how this goes.6 -

That's awesome! I think I am getting a tiny bit faster, too because I can feel that I don't huff and puff so much. It has definitely been more of a mind game to just push through and get out there, and then once I am outside, it seems to get easier all the way around. It is certainly helping the weight-loss, too.
I really like reading your posts, Yirara, and I hope you have a great vacation. Make lots of memories and have fun! [/quote]
Aww, thanks a lot Fit2btied I really need this vacation and have been looking forward to it.1 -
Good job @eleanorhawkins on not beating up the new girl on that big sandy hill. It's like being on your best behavior on a first date. Don't want to scare anyone off 😁
I'm on week 7 of my strength/resistance plan, and started "phase 2" - meaning new workouts. This week I just did 2 sets of 8 reps per each of the 5 exercises and actually had some new muscles feel a tiny bit sore afterwards, which made me happy 😊 And I moved boxes around yesterday at the donation center where I volunteer (for like an hour a week), which wiped me out.
Running-wise I have nothing to contribute here. I may still stick around, or may disappear for a while, depending on how hard it is to see everyone else running when I just can't. I haven't been logging food either, as it wasn't helping, meaning I may or may not be on the app itself. So I don't want to just disappear unannounced (I'm still sad about a long-time member here who did that and we have no idea what happened) but do see myself posting less and less, despite having a desire to still check in with you all. A couple of you know how to find me outside of MFP if needed.8 -

@polskagirl01 yeah, it really was like a first date 😂😂😂 not sure she'll come back for normal, 'boring' runs, but she sounded keen on mountain outings. The fact that you've got so far with that strength programme shows that your runner's discipline and determination is still there, even if you can't run. I'm impressed! Also, everything I've read claims that that is the most important thing we can do for our bodies for future health, so well done!7

November Goal: 100 Miles
11/1: 5.26 miles
11/2: 5.26 miles
11/4: 5.55 miles
16.07/100 miles completed for November
It was so windy this morning. I guess technically it was yesterday morning since it is after midnight now. It was 72°F so pretty warm for November. I guess the wind helped it not to feel so hot, but I would still prefer not to have 23 mph winds. I did run 5.5 miles.

5(ish) miles this morning told me I am yet to be completely recovered. My legs and glutes were sore from yesterday's strength workout (done twice last week, 1st time really hurt so I grabbed the barbie dumbbells yesterday) and my HR kept going higher than I wanted it to for what was meant to be an easy run so I walked up the hills and stopped often. Of course, the fact I headed for the hills didn't help. So, it ended up being a very slow but thoroughly enjoyable plod. I want to head up the mountain on Friday, so will force myself to stick to flatter routes until then. Will probably take an extra rest day next week too so as not to go from 10 days off to full on straight away.
However, I have goals. I think I said I signed up for a short mountain race in January... well, I also had one of those accidents where you sign up for a marathon. April. Very little road, mostly easy dirt trails, supposedly. Lots of sherry, even at half the aid stations :-o I should probably take up drinking to get the most out of the experience 😂
Now I just have to work out how to make training work... we're doing a week's hiking holiday around a month beforehand, so not quite sure how to get my 20 miler(s) in. Thoughts/opinions from those with experience more than welcome!7 -
I am in! I plan to run at least 150 kilos this November.7
