Oh, happy turkey day to those who celebrate that!
Good to see you back, @noblsheep4 -
Welcome back @noblsheep!! I've been wondering how you are doing! I bet all the cycling has put your legs in a great place for running again!
I had planned to get out this morning for a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot but the wind is back with a vengeance. The forecast was for winds (and heat) but not as much wind as last week. Nope, it is hot (over 80F), the winds are fierce and the humidity is back below 10%. I think I may go out when we get home this evening at least for a neighborhood walk. Winds and temps will be down and the humidity up a little.

This was better today. Slower, obviously. I tried to keep my HR below a certain number, which I do sometimes to see whether there's a change. Nope, didn't work at all today. But running was very nice. And I'm nearly back on track. Oh, also perfect running weather: mild, and no wind at all.4 -
Happy Thanksgiving to all of us in the US 🦃😁
HI @noblsheep! Great to see you back!
As predicted, rain all this week, so got on the treadmill for my Turkey Trot. After the first mile my calf had ZERO pain 😊👏👏 Was a good 7 miles. Now for some turkey!

I ran a half marathon distance today. The longest run of the year! I was meeting a friend to run 6 miles so I ran 2 miles before I met her and then the rest after our run. There is a group that always runs the local golf course on Thanksgiving morning before the official Turkey Trot which is run on the front half of the golf course. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
@Scott6255 - I missed that you were having calf problems but glad you had no pain with it today. Hopefully, it’s happy again.8 -
Great running @kgirlhart ! Congrats on exceeding your goal for the month already!
@yirara I'm glad the run didn't hurt your foot. Be careful though and make sure you follow doctor's orders. Did you explain to the doctor that you are a runner? When I had my heart surgery a lot of our after surgery conversations were about when it would be safe for me to run again. Sounds like you had a nice run today.
@Scott6255 Glad your Achilles wasn't too painful on your treadmill run yesterday. You sure don't want to get sidelined this close to your Marathon. Glad it didn't hurt at all today! Yippee!
@eleanorhawkins You're mountain runs always amaze me, but running in the dark is even more so. That sounds like a great group to be a part of, when you can.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA ! You are very consistent. It's inspiring.
Glad to see you back @noblsheep ! A 3km run is a great start!
@shanaber I don't blame you for foregoing the run this morning. Those conditions sound awful.
Nice running @Teresa502 ! You are amazing to me too. So consistent. When I saw your distance on the newsfeed, I figured you hadn't had to help in Greeneville this morning.
I had intended to get in a run today, but it wasn't in the stars. I did walk another mile on the treadmill before the festivities began and took a slower walk this afternoon with my mom and a neighbor's dog. It was way too nice out to spend the entire day inside. Hope everyone who celebrated had a Happy Thanksgiving and that everyone else had a great day!
When I think of the things I have to be thankful for, all of you are on my list. I love that I found this group of supportive friends.9 -
So happy to see you again @noblsheep!!
Glad your calf is settling down @Scott6255.quilteryoyo wrote: »@martaindale I sure don't blame you for running on the treadmill with those conditions outside. And, great job on listening to your body. What race are you running? I hope your Achilles tendons don't get any worse and the exercises kick in sooner rather than later.
I’m doing the Dopey challenge in January. 5k, 10k, HM, then marathon on consecutive days.

I am officially not running. I ended up hobbling around by the night after my 8 mile run and woke up the next morning with a huge bruise over my right medial ankle and both ankles swollen. I was still having some pain just with walking on the right side. It’s been 2 days with no running. The swelling is better today but still a little swollen and the bruise is turning several lovely colors. The left doesn’t hurt but the right is still a little tender if I go fully up on my toes.
My triathlon friend recommended this functional sports clinic that she has used for the last few years. I have an appointment Tuesday. Until then, I’m not running. I’ll take some walks maybe starting tomorrow and focus on some workouts for core/strength training that I can do without making my injury flare back up. We’ll see what they say at my appointment but at this point I just don’t want to make it any worse.6 -
Dang it @martaindale sooo sorry 😔 Hope you get some good news from the doc. Stay strong!2

@martaindale ouch. Sorry to hear this 😞2 -
@martaindale oh no! Fingers crossed they can fix it quick.2

I had a surprisingly nice, sleasy trot out this morning. I'm getting a cold so feeling a bit bleurgh, and I was so late getting home from that run the other night that I didn't stretch, which is unheard of for me, so I was expecting my legs to hate me and for it to be horrible. But the sun was shining, the streets were quiet and it was just one of those runs that feels awesome. Maybe the latest training cycle and race then rest did my legs good, or maybe it's the consistent strength, core and mobility work I've done this month, or maybe it was just luck lol. I meant to stick to a flat route, but seem unable to do that any more, I always end up like 'I'll just pop up to the castle' or 'I'll just go up that little hill'. For someone who hates hills my subconscious seems unable to stay away from them!
One of the guys from club has let me borrow his trail poles to try them out because I was saying I wanted some for xmas but have never used them, so I'm going to have to escape to the mountains one morning next week to play with them :-)7 -
Morning all.
Got a nice, brisk 10K in!
PS: England Vs USA tonight in the football 😊6 -

Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I hope everyone who celebrated Thanksgiving had a great holiday. I did get up an run a 10K yesterday. It wasn't a race, just on my own. It was a good run though. It was humid and about 60°F. So shorts and a t-shirt were perfect. It rained later in the day so I was glad I was able to get a run in with good weather. Then I came home and finished cooking before heading over to my sister's house. I was kind of sad because neither of my kids came this year. All four of my sisters were there but several of the "kids" didn't come so we only had 17 people this year. But we had a great time. I definitely overindulged on the food, especially the desserts.
It was cold and rainy when I got up this morning. It is supposed to be like this all day. I am hoping to find an opportunity to get out and walk a mile for my November mile per day streak. I may have to do some "crazy laps" and walk in the house. 😁
@noblsheep Great to see you back.
@scott6255 Glad you're not having pain.
@martaindale Lots of hugs. I hope you get back to running quickly.
@tarun_yadavA The only plans my husband and I have for today is to watch the game.

That's more like it Had a nice run.
Question to all: if you run every second day, or two days in a row do you see a difference in HR? I found that if I run two days or more in a row then the first run has a much higher HR than the second, than the third. If I do strength training (well, basically physio) during the day and run in the evening then my HR is even lower during the run. Just curious if other people notice the same.4 -
Happy birthday @AlphaHowls
@kgirlhart - halftime. How's it still 0-0??
You guys been the better side, IMO2 -
@yirara That’s interesting but I can’t say I have noticed that. My HR has dropped over time at the same paces and if I do a workout day 1 and a recovery run day 2, then my HR will be lower because the effort is lower. But I have never noticed a drop at the same effort levels, same distance from 1 day to the next.1

Oh that's interesting. I thought my observation was odd but wanted to confirm with a few people. Yeah, my HR is lower on the second day at the same effort, and also at a higher one. Doesn't mean I'm able to run better or faster. Everything seems to be shifted downwards then - and basically messes with my Garmin watch because the same effort might be classified a tempo run on the first day, and a base run on the second.0 -
@martaindale those symptoms are worrisome. I am sorry you are dealing with this after being pretty durn careful when it started. Have you ever had something like this before? The swelling to your ankles maybe it is from higher up? Could it be your achilles or some sort of stress fracture ? (both legs! JEEZ!) I am glad you were able to get an appt on Tuesday to see if it can be sorted out.
@yirara hearts rate trends and such are very unique to individuals. There are SO many things which can effect them. The best I think is to do as you are and to monitor and pay attention.
@tarun_yadavA I see the US and England tied 0 0 today. I dont really watch soccer and honestly everyone I know is WATCHING it just because I guess world cup but they probably haven't ever seen a match in person. LOL. Speedy run today!
@AlphaHowls Happy belated 52nd! I think you should rename your 1/2marathon streak to 15 mile streak... just saying. Gorgeous sunrise photo. That and the photo @kgirlhart shared of the moon after the fog lifted the other morning are what makes my early morning runs totally the bomb! I don't run with my phone anymore (just my watch) so I don't usually get photos but some of the skies as the sun comes up are stunning!
@eleanorhawkins hope you re not getting sick because we know you NEED to try out those trail poles. I wonder if @polskagirl01 uses them on some of her more crazy adventures!
I met my monthly goal today with a 7 miler. 122.6 out of 120 and tomorrow I hope to hit 1400 for the year. ALtho it was warm and wet yesterday today felt better with a north wind. I had trouble dressing because I did not want to have to do my hair yesterday before going to thanksgiving with the extended fam but it was too warm really to wear anything but a tshirt and shorts. So today was but easier. Esp because I did not care about keeping my hair nice. HAhahahaha.I am SO glad I did go to the family dinner yesterday. My older brother is a teaching tennis pro and has been for a long long time. I explained to him my issue with my back after playing but that running the next day would be fine. He suggested that I use a one handed backhand and that the torque from using my other hand was the culprit. It sort of made the lightbulb go off in my head because I know that forehands were not hurting but backhands do. I don't have the true Chrissie Everett 2 handed backhand but I do use my othr hand to guide so if the rain ever stops I will try out this theory. Worth it if I have to change my stroke not to keep irritating my back. This was my brother eating the crust from the cheesecake ring.
Some of the trees are finally starting to turn here in Tx and altho this photo would be more stunning with a bright blue sky in the background the tree still caught my eye this morning enough for me to go back later and snap a photo before it starts raining. again. I know. Must. Not. Complain. About. Rain....6 -
@tarun_yadavA It was a pretty exciting game for no score. We have never watched a lot of soccer, but we do like to watch the World Cup.2

I had joined a challenge back in August, to take photo what what made your run awesome/best. Before that, I would 'never' stop during a run. Now, I find it fun to bring back what makes me smile.
7 -
@AlphaHowls - Happy Birthday! Love the sunrise pictures! I also am enjoying taking pictures of what makes me smile but often it is just the birds or the way the sun is making the water sparkle.
@martaindale - I hope your achilles are improving and that the sports doctor can help!
@yirara - I agree with @ martaindale that everyone's HR is different and impacted by different things. I find the heat/humidity levels as well as how well rested I am and so many other things...
@eleanorhawkins - I have run with poles and found them annoying as well as helpful if that makes sense? I think annoying because I hate having things in my hands but I love the sense of stability help.
@tarun_yadavA - We have been watching the World Cup too. My husband finds it annoying because he doesn't understand it. I find it amazing how many draws they have had this go round. I have read some pretty funny articles about conditions in Qatar, especially the lack of beer/alcohol at/near the games. I guess it has been especially painful for the England fans 😂
@SummerSkier - I would be eating the cheesecake crumbs out of the pan along with your brother. That is the best part! I hope his suggestions for your tennis swing help!
The tree is gorgeous! Yes, please do not complain about the rain or at least send it up this way instead. We all need it so badly!
I went out for a run today since the wind had died down to a manageable level. It was warm but the wind helped make it feel cooler. The only problem was it was just so dry that I have a really difficult time breathing through my nose which causes my breathing to be really off. Even though I ended up with a bloody nose but had a pretty good run. @AlphaHowls gave me a great suggestion to use some vaseline in my nose. I will have to remember to try that in the future. Not sure I will make my 100 mile goal this month but I should get pretty close.
7 -
Morning ladies! 😊
@SummerSkier - with your brother on that one!! The crumbs from the base. Love it!
(Side note- get a lot of American chains here, but the one we don't have is Cheesecake Factory 😭 )
Hope single handed backhand returns work for you. And I like Chrissy Evert too! Glamorous! 😊
@kgirlhart - I think the US, on that performance, should beat Iran and set-up a knockout game against Holland. Who look pretty insipid.
@shanaber - agreed. I don't think Qatar should ever been allowed to host. I think Budweiser should take FIFA to the cleaners with lawsuits.
Side note-
Whilst on the subject of UK v US, on a subject close to my heart (Beer! lol)...
Lot of misconceptions about both.
Over here, British think of American beer as 'Budweiser' and 'Coors' - and typical responses are "it's just fizzy pisswater".
When I took a work sabbatical last year and did my 48State Roadtrip...
Meanwhile in America, more than once I got, "is it true y'all drink beer warm?". LOL
Where I could, visited a lot of microbreweries in each state... Some places like Maine, Wisconsin, Oregon (both Portlands actually) - OMG I was in heaven!!
Disappointed I didn't get to do Denver in CO, or hit up the Austin microbrewery scene.
Anyways... Time for Morning Tea!
And get a run in!
Wife and youngest away at my in-laws... I got some guys coming round in the afternoon till late. France v Denmark and Mexico v Argentina.
Got in a Costco run
24x cans of Brewdog IPA,
12x bottles of Peroni beer,
2 bottles of Chivas,
1 bottle of Gin - in case!
2x party size bags of Chilli Heatwave Doritos,
2x party size bags of Nacho Cheese Doritos,
2x party size bags of Salt and Vinegar twirls!5 -
Squeezed something in!
My friend, who is always always late, told me I'll be at yours for between 9:30-10... Shows up at 9.10.
So had to cut short5 -
they have costco in England?! who knew?1

I have mayonnaise and ketchup to last through to 2024! 😊5 -
@martaindale Oh no! So sorry to hear about your injury. I'm glad you could get in to see the sports doctor on Tuesday. I hope they have good news for you and you are able to continue with your training for the Dopey Challenge.
@eleanorhawkins Glad you had an awesome run and that you were able to borrow some trail poles so you know if you like them or not. Funny that your subconscious wants to run the hills.
Great run @tarun_yadavA . Fantastic consistency. Looks like you are ready for the party! I hope you all enjoy!
@kgirlhart Nice job on the Thanksgiving day 10K.
Happy Happy Late Birthday @AlphaHowls ! Looks like a nice run.
Nice running @yirara . Can't help you on your question about HR though. I've not noticed that either.
@SummerSkier Congrats on meeting your months goal already! Love the picture of your brother eating the leftovers on the pan. Love me some cheesecake! Lovely tree too. I thought I heard on the news this morning that TX is getting snow. Does that include you?
