Karen - everyone in your life is blessed to have you.
My grandfather was never diagnosed with Parkinson’s, but had all of the signs.
Heather - I would love to hike a dollhouse. It has been one of my dreams to try. Maybe a project for another year. I used to make Barbie houses with cardboard boxes. I used carpet remnants, wallpaper scraps, washcloths were bedding and chocolate boxes were beds. My grandmother supported me in everything, I still have an antique little drawer set that she gave me to use for a dresser, it even has a sticker I had placed on it for a doily. What memories.
I think your granddaughter’s would love helping you decorate a tree.
All of the ornaments on my tree were special in some way. No just plain balls, Kaitlyn told Michaela the story of where they came from, one is celebrating its 20th year. It is three stacked rocks painted white with a snowman face. It has a ribbon around his neck to represent the scarf and his loop to hang. Kaitlyn made it for me when she was 9.
One special ornament broke this year, it was Jonah’s handprint for his first Christmas. They were both incredibly upset. So am I.
Lanette - I bet you master that drill in no time. One thing I’ve learned with it is to apply pressure and go slow. Don’t pull the trigger all the way at once.
Barbara - it’s a shame we can’t do video, you would think they would get with the times. I don’t have a YouTube channel so I can’t share.
Debbie - that is a lot to deal with all at once.
Barbara - what a cute picture of your pups. The church window is a close up of my little village I made in ceramics.
Vicki - thank you. I love doing that in the evenings.
Heather - I think that more cities need to adopt green. I grew up in forest and potato land and the cancer rates in that area are insane. At one point the rate was 10% higher per capita than the rest of Canada. I don’t know if that is still true or not.
Rebecca - glad to hear your surgery went well.
Barbie - I hope Jake’s arthritis pain subsides soon.
Michele - the little Christmas tree by the church is part of my village, not the “retro” type tree. I do have one but chose not to put it out this year.
The bigger tree on the counter is actually crocheted. My Sister in Law’s mother made it for my Mom and since my SIL has one I claimed it.
I am off until Monday. We have a craft sale this weekend. Rodger hasn’t made any new ornaments but I have quite a few left from previous years. I am hoping to sell most of them.
My eldest daughter is coming out tomorrow, we are going shopping for clothes for the Grands to wear to their Great Grandma’s funeral on Friday.

I will find out Friday when mine is. I don't think it will be as dramatic as what you have to go through.
Ready to get all this stuff over with.

30 Days of Gratitude
1. Smell - freshly cut grass on our lawn.
2. Technology - the amazing advancements in medical technology.
3. Colour - blue. Beautiful blue sky peaking through the clouds.
4. Food - soup. That's what I've been eating just recently because there's less chewing. We always keep a few cans of soup on hand for situations like these.
5. Sound - my music. I've recently acquired a number of nature sounds CDs with music playing along with sounds of ocean waves, birds, and so on. Lovely.
6. Nature - I love nature. It would be incredibly difficult for me to pick just one thing. I am so grateful that there is nature and that I can enjoy it.
7. Memory - Winter 2017. The last time I visited my parents and a wonderful 1-month holiday to Canada that June/July. My husband and I did two cycling events and a lot of other cycling. We climbed mountains and explored a glacier. We visited friends and family.
Memories:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/machka-bb/albums/72157682899188730
8. Book - Norman Doidge's The Brain's Way of Healing. I found it inspirational!
https://www.normandoidge.com/?page_id=1042
9. Place - home. I've moved and travelled a lot and home is wherever I happen to feel really comfortable. Right now, home is a certain house here in Tasmania where I can go and just be myself (mostly, for even a little while). Home is where I can lie down on the sofa and doze off when I've had a rough day, like I did yesterday.
10. Taste - salt. My favourite taste. On the one hand I need salt because of my exercise and medications, on the other hand I need to reduce my salt because of my kidneys. But given the choice, I'll usually go salty over sweet ... or maybe salty and sweet!
11. Holiday - Christmas!!!!
12. Texture - smoothness. I like smooth clothes, smooth sheets, Rhody's smooth fur ...
13. Abilities - I don't really think of myself in terms of having abilities. I've sort of thought of myself as "the jack of all trades, master of none". However, organisation is one that I've been thankful for throughout my life.
14. Sight - the beauty all around. In our yard, where we go cycling, where I work, and travelling around this island.
15. Season - I like the seasons in the following order from best to worst: Summer, Autumn ............ Spring ................... Winter.
16. What about your body are you grateful for? Healing ... that it heals. Mostly anyway, and perhaps imperfectly, but healing does take place.
17. What knowledge are you grateful for? Everything I do know. It all contributes to my work, my carer role, and my other activities.
18. Piece of art - of the arts, I think the two I appreciate the most are literature and music. On the subject of music, I have really appreciated discovering ABC Classic FM on the radio and the app on my phone. I pop in my earbuds at work and I can focus on my work while feeling relatively relaxed at the same time.
19. Touch - Rhody's fur, his little wet nose, his whiskers
20. Who in my life - my husband. I'm glad he is still in my life. My parents who have always been supportive.
21. Song - He Is -- Mark Schultz. One of several songs that has been with me through the difficult times.
22. Story - I'm grateful that there are so many stories! I love reading. It provides me with a much-needed distraction.
23. Tradition - I like the little traditions of Christmas.
24. Challenge - all the long distance cycling I've done over the years!
25. What moment this week are you most grateful for? Now. The start of a 3-day weekend! I'm taking Monday off.
26. What form of expression ... the written word. I like being able to communicate non-verbally through emails, facebook, etc.
27. What small thing that I use daily am I grateful for? ...
Is my bed small? It's a twin ...
My pillow? Having discovered good pillows, I can hardly sleep on any other pillow.
My laptop! That would probably be the one.
28. Small thing that happened today ... I got to rest and get a few things done. Plus I got to watch Murder She Wrote!
29. Friend/family member - my parents who have been so supportive all the way along, even from a long distance.
30. Talent or Skill - cycling!!

Good morning ladies!
Rebecca - glad you were able to come home so quickly and wishing you a speedy recovery. Glad that gall bladder is gone and won't trouble you again.
Pip - Great photos of Kirby. Quit teasing us like that, lol.
Michele - Regarding Kirby and Cory being good looking = you got that right! Some of their most attractive features, in my mind, is how handy they are with tools and getting home repair stuff done, lol. Remember what Red Green said - “If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.” So Pip and Lisa got the icing on the cake!
Barbie - I can sympathize with Jake and arthritis. This past couple days my feet and hands haven't been happy either. Must be a change in air pressure or the colder weather. I keep thinking the weather channel needs to just survey us seniors to see what their joints are predicting weather wise and toss out that fancy equipment. Save themselves some money and it would be more accurate too.
I watched a couple nifty YouTube videos yesterday:
1.) Pertaining to gratitude, Dr. Seheult of Medcram talks about scientific proof that gratitude is good for our mental health. I thought it fit in well with the month of gratitude list many of you are making.
2.) Pertaining to dementia, Dr. Been presented a 7 year long study about flavonols found in certain fruits and veggies and how they are associated with slower rates mental decline in seniors. The study just shows association, not causation, but what struck me is that my DH refused to eat any fruits and veggies the last couple years of his life. He fit perfectly into the study results.
Hope those of you who are feeling ill are on the road to recovery.
Take care.

Went for my 5k run. I didn't wake up intending to, because of my fragile knee, but the air was so still and it's not going to get any warmer in the next few days.
Decided to take it easy and go!
I ran a different way so I could visit the fish market on the way home. I bought frozen King prawns and fresh skate. In the photo the local boats are not in berth at the quayside.
Then I got on with my writing, well wrapped up against the cold. I'm now going down to put the heating on for lunch. Smoked oysters and cauliflower rice salad. DH has just left for his lunch date.

Heather would your council consider contracting with a local goatherd for weed abatement? Have seen it used on public lands, not sure how an urban environment would accept…
Rita thanks! Captain mountain is beautiful in the snow.
Rebecca thanks for updating us, you’ve been in my thoughts.
Pip, yah, Kirby is a looker, but then again so are you! Handsome couple.
Machka both my MOHS surgeries were done under “local” not general anaesthetic, but I was given “twilight” drugs that kept me mostly unaware of what was going on, thank goodness. Highly recommended.
Lanette what you said about arthritic weather predictions. Truth this.

Good morning ladies!
My shoulder is much better this morning. That gives me hope that this is a week-long injury instead of a month-long. Yay!
My mom told me this morning she is supposed to take some of her pills twice a day and she couldn't find them last night. So the system is working! Yay! She had her pills after dinner, then I put them away so she won't take extra. Sounds like she was trying to take an extra dose last night.
Have a wonderful day! And those of you who are sick, wishing you some hot tea and comfort.

Pip- I remember that porch pic of Kirby! It's my favorite too. Feel free to post it as often as you like, as I feel it does us all a LOT of good. I have decided that Kirby will make my gratitude list today; you will also make the list due to your willingness to share his loveliness (inside and out) with us. Thankful for Pip and Kirby in Michigan KJ (Kelly)3
-
Annie - Your vigilance is saving your mom's life over and over again. So glad you're there for her, and glad your shoulder's improving quickly! That's because you're doing the weights. You will recover much faster from any minor injury because you've improved your muscle tone. (Sorry, ran a fitness center for a while, so I can get kind of lecture-ish.)
Pip - Isn't it fun to have that kind of scenery around (Kirby and Corey)? I embarrass Corey when I look at him too long, as well. I met him after I'd lost all the weight, and mentioned in passing once that he would never have looked at me when I was heavy. He told me I was wrong, that I wouldn't have looked at him. Smart man, he was right. We believe we're not worthy when we're overweight when in reality, we're the same person.
Allie and everyone under the weather - Take care of yourselves!
Debbie - Sorry about the diagnosis, hope they got it early and surgery is successful!
Machka - An involuntary nose job wasn't on your Christmas list, either I know. Hope it's highly successful and recovery is quick and painless.
Rebecca - So pleased that you're home. My life post-gall-bladder-removal was so much easier, too, and recovery was super quick.
Slept nine hours last night! It only took me 62 years to learn to sleep. Sometimes I'm slow...
My last gratitudes, now that November is ending:
25-moment this week: That "aha" moment when learning a program again (WordPress) and I finally broke through the fog.
26-form of expression: Writing. Always. Forever.
27-small thing I use daily: My bluetooth earpiece, so I can stick my phone in my pocket and wander around the house while talking to my friends and family. All but the noisy chores (vacuuming) are done while gabbing.
28-small thing that happened today: Corey's "good morning" phone call.
29-friend/family I am grateful for today: No way for love to choose between them... I'm just grateful.
30-talent/skill I have: Writing. I may not always believe in my own ability, but it always believes in me.
Love y'all,

Rebecca Celebrating that the diseased gallbladder is up outta you & you are home in fine fettle. Yay!

Woke up grateful for my attitude change toward my spouse. I don't know what got into me, but whatever it was is gone thanks to being able to vent here. It was like magic. Thank you all for being my therapeutic audience, friends.
My peace of mind allowed me to go back to sleep for several hours, something my sleep-deprived body appreciates so much. I am sitting here with my weighted blanket on my lap, starting my day with all of you. On the agenda for today: prepare the LR to be the staging area for our move. On a smaller scale, this has worked well for the prior 2 mini-moves done for our son's items and for my brother to move into his apartment.
____
Mary, It just occurred to me that a weighted blanket might help your husband's foot shuffling while watching TV. Draped over his lap/legs, I think it would definitely reduce the involuntary movements. I got my weighted blanket through my Buy Nothing group after I saw how much the one I bought my grandson helped his sleep. They come in various weights and he might need you to do the heavy lifting. It's just a thought.
___
We have a busy day; I am taking my spouse to the dentist and then over to our new apartment to do some puttering around while she meets with her personal trainer over there in their little gym.
___
Since I slept late, I now need to get into high gear since we will be leaving for the dentist in about an hour and I have much to do before we go.
___
Appreciate so much the pictures of Pip and Kirby. so much love

I've given in and put the heat on an hour early. DH still out. I had a good nap - out cold. It was a struggle to get up, but I did and hung up the laundry in the utility room. Now I have a cup of tea and am enjoying hearing the boiler running and the house creaking back into warmth.
I'm fed up with nothing but the World Cup on TV.

in the part of CA that I am in there are sidewalks in front of all the houses, and while they are on your property and as the property owner you are required to maintain them (weed them, cut back shrubs) the city maintains them if they break, become uneven... So each of us make our own decisions on maintaining I weed them when it is wet enough to be able to pull the weeds, if it is too hot and dry I use a string trimmer to keep things under control. If someone were to trip over the weeds in the sidewalk they could sue you in court. I don't know how that would work out, but certainly it would be a hassle. I like to have access to my neighbors sidewalks and be able to walk without walking in the street. Therefore I maintain the piece of sidewalk across the front of my property.
I think the situation as you describe could become quite the tripping hazard.
smiles Kim2 -
I have four fabric storage cubes coming today from Amazon. So it's a good day to follow your excellent examples and clean out the piles in my room. Except for the books, I want those! They spark joy!
I think I need to rearrange and declutter enough to fit in a new bookcase. It will be a challenge! But I don't have to do it all today.
I also want to put together a pot roast for my parents, and pay some bills. And maybe do 30 mins walking again. Time to get up and get going!
Lisa - thanks, that's encouraging!

Yes Katla, the doctor said mine was huge too! He had to pull the gallbladder out, get stone out ,then he was able to pull gallbladder out. He said the incision (its under my rib cage) had to be made a wee bigger, but its not big to me. Of course, I can't wear my bra because it hits right on the incision.😬🙄

A cartoon I saw years ago showed a boy falling down and hurting himself far from home then running many blocks home. As soon he saw his mother, he began to wail and cry. That describes Jake. He can sit at the computer for hours alone quietly and as soon as he sees me or sits by me to watch TV, he begins groaning and moaning and commenting on how much his arthritic hand hurts. He has been on the phone with a friend for thirty minutes without a single grunt or mention of his pain but before the call he interrupted our conversation several times to lament in one way or another about his hand.

Rebecca--Glad you are home resting. Take things slow and easy.
Katla--I pray they can work it out and get you moved to where your DH is. That would be great for both of you.
This cold is kicking my ****. I laid day last evening about 7pm and was out most the night. I did wake up a couple times coughing. Keep thinking it will be done soon.
