It was the perfect level of chilly this morning, 34F feels like 28F with clear skies so it was beautifully sunny at the end of my run. I got to wear my warm clothes and not be overdressed but it wasn’t so cold that you don’t get warmed up. Lovely. It starts warming up here tomorrow and it will be in the 70’s. These wild swings are such a shock to the system.

@AlphaHowls I can't imagine doing that. Do you change directions during the run? I would think if you didn't it would really mess with your knees and hips...always turning in the same direction. You are amazing to do that.

Yes ! You have to change directions. I am programmed to turn every song as well as go up and downstairs (elevation/hills). My first time ever doing this, I got an overuse injury in my shin.

    102.84/100 miles completed for December

I ran 5 miles this morning. That gets me to almost 103 miles and makes it to my goal of 100 miles. It was really cold at 24°F. I wore long tights, sleeves and a long sleeved shirt. I also wore an earwarmer headband. (I really don't know what that is called) and gloves. My hands were cold, but other than that, I was pretty comfortable. I saw 6 deer at the park. I was looking for them and then a car drove nearby and three of them moved. I almost didn't even see them. I sometimes wonder how many critters I pass that I don't see.

This may be my last run for the year. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow for a seroma. I had a CT on it early in November and I was going to wait until after the new year to see if they recommend doing something about it or not. It isn't causing any pain. But now my insurance is changing so if they recommend removing it and I want the insurance to cover it I need to do it this year. Hopefully they will either say that I don't need to treat it, or if they think it needs to be removed they will do a needle aspiration to drain it. I just hope whatever they decide I won't have to wait long (or at all 😁) to run.

I'll have to figure out my stats for the year and look at my goals for next year. Congratulations to all who made their goals and to all who worked on them.

    62/70 mile goal

After I got home from work, I went for a wun on my treadmill. It was a true wun with mostly walking. I just wanted to keep my HR up a bit and get done faster. I did 2 miles in 30:38 minutes for a 3.9 mph pace. My avg HR was 125 with a max of 142 bpm. I was trying to keep it between 120 and 140.

Under the spoiler is my woes of getting to work this morning and my mom and neighbor coming up about 1 pm to take care of Tippy for me.
Woke up with half an inch of slick snow on the driveway. I know that isn't much at all to most of you, but it's enough to cause issues here. I went ahead and went to work at 8, but probably shouldn't have. I was going slow, but slid about 2 ft when I stopped on a flat section to walk down and open the gate. Then, went really slowly past the gate. I stopped ok, but it slid a bit after I put it in park. The hill on the main road at my mailbox was slick and icy, so just had to not stop at the end of my driveway and keep going to make it up. Once I got on the main road, past mom's, it was clear sailing. My road (and driveway, of course) didn't get salted. Mom and my neighbor came up at 1 to let Tippy run a few minutes. He was driving a truck (not 4 wheel drive), slid going up the driveway, and almost wrecked. They backed down, out of the snow covered part, and walked the rest of the way to my house. It scared them both, but all was well. Mom told me not to go into work again if it is like that. LOL

It still has a lot of snow tonight, despite the temps getting into the 40's F (4-7C) this afternoon. I'm working tomorrow, but not going in until 11 or 11:30 so Tippy will be fine and hopefully it won't be slick. I love my tree lined driveway, but when it snows, it stays.

@martaindale I'm glad you had a relaxing Christmas. Sorry about the tummy issues. It must be going around. I'm so excited for your Dopey races. I thought 3:30 am was early. I probably just wouldn't go to be if I had to be up at 2:30. LOL It is the wild swings in temps that messes with the body and everything else.

I'm glad to see you switch directions @AlphaHowls . I had issues with my knee just from turning in the same direction on my driveway every two tenth of a mile. I can't even imagine how many laps that would be.

    Yum @tarun_yadavA !

Nice run today @Laurz9191 ! It's hard for me to get out in the dark too - let alone in the dark when it's cold out.

@SummerSkier You are doing great! 1550 miles is nothing to sneeze at! And I love that you got in a clow run.

Those food pictures definitely resemble my diet these past few days, except for me it’s less beer and cheese and more gin and meat ;). I am taking this as a sign that spring needs to come soon.

Yesterday I took a rest day because my husband had to work, the kids are all at home, and I don’t run when it’s dark out. I just am not at that point yet, where I could motivate myself to get out in the freezing cold AND it’s dark.

But today I got up early and I got in 13 km. I am very proud of that, because I now have hope that my monthly km goal is in reach if I am able to get just a few more long runs in!

@Laurz9191 hi! So ready to tap out and get back into routine!
    Out 29th, 30th, 31st.... 😭

Just modified Dory to 'just keep running' to TRY and stay afloat over this week

that's an interesting comment about the treadmill @AlphaHowls .. I don't have one but I would think it was different than running in place because you are actually striding on it altho your body is stationary.

@tarun_yadavA wow you were not feeling it but you ran 12K. amazing persistance. Hang in there only a few more days until the new year!

It's finally over freezing this morning 44 F! so definitely shorts weather even tho it is dark out as I am up early to go to work.

@quilteryoyo be careful with that ice and snow and driving!!!!!!

@tarun_yadavA I can't even imagine running one marathon a month, or at all at this point, let alone one every day. Now, @AlphaHowls probably could aspire to that. Great job getting in your run when you weren't feeling it. Hang in there. You're almost done with celebrations.

I swear I will never complain about tx summer morning weather again (I know famous last words....)

    Oh, I'll be complaining.
Just modified Dory to 'just keep running' to TRY and stay afloat over this week

I sing this to myself when it's a bajillion degrees out and I just want to turn around. "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming. What do we do? We swiiiiimmm!"

@quilteryoyo Yeah, that driveway situation sounds hazardous. Your driveway is gorgeous though!

Another lovely chilly morning here! We are hitting 70's today so it will still be nice in the morning but definitely not as cool as these glorious temps. My husband is ready for the warm-up. Anything below 60F is "too cold to live" according to him. It's pretty ridiculous.

I did that last year and year before running one marathon a month, this year I have only done 5, just never enough time.

Thanks for the compliment about my driveway @martaindale . Another great run in the books for you. Funny about your DH and how our bodies adapt to different weather conditions/climates.

@eleanorhawkins I looked after I added my miles today and saw that we were back on land and headed your way. We are 6 miles behind though. I'm looking forward to mince pies, ham, and sherry! Sounds like a great New Year's Eve feast to me.

@AlphaHowls I'm amazed that you have time for a HM every day!

I did make it into work ok, even though it was still below freezing when I left, so the snow/ice was still on my driveway. The temp got up to 51F (10.6C) today, so some of it melted, but there is still enough to get me in trouble if I'm not careful. Hopefully it will all melt away tomorrow or the next day since we're supposed to stay above the freezing mark for a few days after about 9 am tomorrow.

My driveway after I got home last night.

After I got home from work, I did a treadmill session. Didn't really feel like doing a lot, but I did run one mile without stopping - did 3/3 minutes at 4.5/4.2 mph and walked a total of 1 mile for warm up and cool down at 3.8 mph. My average HR was 137 with a max of 148 bpm during the run. I do think that is a bit higher than it should be for the effort.

    64/70 mile goal

ok good question for the month... we have some already but what is your favorite mantra/saying/song that keeps you going thru the hard miles or across the finish line?

Mine was always 'one foot in front of the other, just keep putting one foot in front of the other'

Also I have the Dory song stuck in my head now - thanks @martaindale 😂

@tarun_yadavA - I can tell by the foodie pictures that you live by the adage of running to eat! The cheese boards look wonderful BTW - I love cheese, probably more than sweets. I also can't imagine running a Marathon every day. I am amazed he has been able to do that and not get injured but I guess you just build up to it and build that tolerance too... also who has that kind of time every day?
@quilteryoyo - I am so glad everyone is safe with the icy conditions on your driveway! So scary!
About the Hobbes card. He also hates having his paws messed with and will pull them away, even though I made a point of messing with them since he was small so that he would be less sensitive. I have an awful time with his nails as a result. For the picture I laid everything out in the garage and Dh helped hold him and give him treats while I quickly put the paint (non-toxic, washable kids paint) on his foot with a sponge and pressed it on the paper. Afterwards we washed the paint off with baby wipes. He was actually pretty good about it all.
@AlphaHowls - love the purple people eater! I remember the calculations that were done about how many laps were needed to get in the miles you do... it was a crazy amount!
@Scott6255 - fantastic job hitting 1600 miles for the year! My best year was 2015 when I went over 1500 miles but haven't been close really since then.
@eleanorhawkins - I know it is winter and all, but how about some sangria?

Glad to see the the middle and eastern US is warming up a bit, maybe a lot. Just a warning though that the big rain storm we had yesterday and last night is now heading your way and we have another one hitting on Friday. Not sure it it will bring you all more cold and snow or if it will bring rain but it sure looks like it is heading across the country again. Good news for us is 1) we got rain and snow in the mountains - lots of it! and 2) the hot temps are non and we are back to more reasonable mid-high 50's.

I got a run walk in today. I hurt my back somehow, well, actually think I can blame this one on Hobbes the last time we ran. I use a waist leash and he stopped suddenly which yanked and twisted me. It hurt a bit at the time but didn't think much of it but my back has been sore since then. Today I was testing to see what it would tolerate. The normal tension from the leash around my waist, while he wasn't pulling at all, was aggravating, so I took it off and looped it over my shoulder and across my body. It really helped. When my back started talking I would walk more and as we were coming home I could tell it was really tired. I had planned to get out tomorrow but I am going to a play in DTLA and have to leave before lunch. DH is worried about me sitting for 2 hours to get there, 2.5 of the show and another 2+ to get home. I convinced one of my friends to drive so worse case I will lie down in the back seat. Even if I get in runs on Friday and Saturday this will be my lowest month for the year and I definitely won't make my monthly or yearly goal although I am closer on my yearly goal than expected.

Have you all thought of running/workout goals for next year? In the past we have stated out goals in January and then the next January we review and set new goals...

what is your favorite mantra/saying/song that keeps you going thru the hard miles or across the finish line?

When I first started running: "don't stop"
    "never give up"
    "one more mile"
    Any Christian song

this dude was staring at me today!
