@quilteryoyo Great race and great pics!!
@Fit2btied2016 Congratulations!!! The glow from that first race never goes away.
@kgirlhart Well done on your first place!!!
I've decided lurking is much more enjoyable than working.8 -
Congratulations @Scott6255 on a great race!!! I'm looking forward to reading your race report. In the meantime, I hope you are relaxing and eating all the food!3

Great job on your races @quilteryoyo, @kgirlhart and @Fit2btied2016! It sounds like it was a successful day for you all!
@Fit2btied2016 That Christmas run looks like it would be a lot of fun! And it’s a good thing you didn’t have to puke .
It’s really cold here at the moment, and sounds like similarly miserable the weather by @tarun_yadavA - icy, below freezing with a bit of snow on the ground. I dragged myself out into the cold for 12.5 miles this morning and felt a bit freezing but otherwise fine.
Then we went to go cut down a Christmas tree. I am including a picture because they looked really cool with the snow. I have never in my life had to thaw out my Christmas tree before putting it up . Anyways, that was lots of fun, but now it looks like not just my son but also my daughter and myself are sick, so I’m going to have to take some unplanned rest days. Oh well! I’ll get back at as soon as I feel good again.

@Laurz9191 FYI (in case you didn't already know) Before you take your tree into the house, give it a thorough blast of bug spray. If you don't, every creepy crawly that is sheltering in it will wake up as soon as the tree warms up. Please don't ask me how I know this...6

Hey all thanks for all the support and congrats!
Yes I'm 60 so was shooting for 8:46 pace. But the course was about 0.2 miles long (everyone in our group came in over 26.46) but I'm sure it was mostly due to weaving in and out around people. So I hit my goal pace (exactly), but ended up 2 minutes off of a BQ. 😒
But it was a good race, and I bettered my marathon PR by 15 minutes. The elevation from the official map was not very accurate. It was a lot hillier than advertised, and there were 2 hills between mile 20 and 21 that were almost straight up!
So even though I am a little disappointed, I am pleased with knocking 15 minutes off. This (probably) won't be my last marathon 😏
Didn't get a 'before' picture because one of our group was late getting to the start. But here is an 'after pic. I'm in the blue, then my niece, brother (obviously) then nephew10 -

@laurz9191 and @Tramboman
Congratulations on your race @scott6255. 15 minutes off your previous time is awesome!
I ran 6.25 miles this morning. I took it pretty easy after running hard yesterday. It was chilly and cloudy, but not a bad run.

Great job, @Scott6255 ! You were so close, I'm sure you can hit your BQ goal if you keep trying. Awesome that you're running at that level!
Congratulations also to @quilteryoyo, you rocked that race!
I also love @kgirlhart not even planning to run a race, and then going and winning it!3 -
@Scott6255 - well done!!! 🙌 Amazing1

@Tramboman - Ha! Kinda like that time we discovered a mouse in our tree (among other things) after we brought it in the house...
@Scott6255 - Congratulations!! Taking 15 mins off your PR is awesome. It is too bad you missed the BQ but you now know it its definitely a possibility and plenty of time to try again! Love the picture with your family - so cool that you all ran it!3 -
London this morning10
-
@tarun_yadavA - That is absolutely beautiful! What is the temp? It doesn't look like a lot of people have ventured out yet.
@scott6255 - I thought maybe your twin brother was also running the race but I didn't realized your niece and nephew were also. How cool! Shaving 15 minutes off your PR is amazing. Glad you stayed healthy for this training cycle and were able to run such an awesome pace for the entire 26++ miles!5 -
Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!! Yes it was very special to have 3 family members run it with me. It was the 1st marathon for all of them, so everybody got a PR on Sunday
And my son texted me this morning that he is going to start training and wants me to run the Austin 5K with him this February10 -
@Scott6255 Wow a 15 minute PR is huge! I definitely see a BQ in your future if you want it. I love that your family was able to do the race with you too. It makes a race into a family memory. I love it when I have family members run races with me.
@tarun_yadavA Snow is pretty to look at but not my favorite to be in. I like it from the window.3 -
@Scott6255 Great race!!!! 15 minutes better than your previous best is awesome!!!2

Dec total: 72.4/150 miles
12/1: 3 miles
12/2: 8 miles
12/3: 7 miles
12/4: 7 miles
12/5: 9 miles
12/6: 6 miles
12/8: 6.5 miles
12/10: 12 miles
12/11: 5 miles
12/12: 8.9 miles
Logging 2 runs because I spaced and forgot to do yesterday’s. Yesterday I did 5 easy miles. I just ran these continuously since it was short. No problems with the Achilles and my legs felt pretty good following the long run the day before.
Today I did the 1 mi run/ 0.5 mi walk with the run at an easier pace than Saturday. My GPS was super wonky today so the pacing was weird, but it felt easier. Looking at the map, it’s obvious it was having a hard time finding me. It’s super cloudy today and I was on the trail with tall trees all around. I have noticed this problem in the past on this trail. Oh well, it’s close enough. Got a little tightness in the calf in the next to last mile segment so I just walked out the last mile and a half. It felt better after a little walking but this was an easy run. No point pushing it and paying the price later. Rest day tomorrow.6 -

Austin in Feb is hit or miss. Might look like London. Lol2 -
I walked a mile this morning before hitting the road - 15:52 min. Then, walked another mile after stopping in SC for the night - 16:01 min.
Morning drama under the spoiler, if you are interested. When I drove to get breakfast this morning, my car told me that one of my tires was low. As I was driving home last night, I heard an odd noise, but convinced myself that it was probably just changes in the road texture. I had looked earlier and didn't see anything in it. But, it was down to 21 lbs of pressure. At first I thought I would just have to put air in it and keep an eye on it while driving today. It didn't take me long before I had that "duh" moment and decided to take it somewhere to be checked out. I had to get approval for late checkout, since I wasn't sure how long it would take. I asked at the desk if there was anyone in the area they would recommend to take it to. The young girl at the desk said there was no one in the Port that worked on tires that she knew of or could find - looking on her computer. I'm sure she entered tire stores or something like that. Anyway, I went back to the room and googled tire repair. Found a shop that was less than a half a mile from the hotel and called them. He said, "Bring it on over and we'll fix it for you." (Not yet knowing what was wrong.) I pulled into Dave's Beach Auto Repair and was met by Dave (I assume)...a older gentleman with long beard. He indicated a young guy who was working on another person's tire and said he'll take a look at it when he's finished there. The younger guy had really long hair and looked like a beach bum. It was a really small shop, but had lots of cars they were working on. It reminded me of a place where locals would go to have their vehicles worked on because they knew the guy was honest and good. I don't know why I got that vibe, but I did. When the younger guy looked at it, he said, this is what was making the noise last night and then said, "It looks like you got screwed." LOL There was a fairly large screw he took out of the tire, plugged the hole, checked the inflation in all of the tires, and charged me a huge $10. Only took him about 5 minutes. They were really nice. I made sure that I told the young lady at the desk who to send people to if anyone else asked. So, disaster averted.
I thought I would have time to write my race report after getting to SC today, but because of the morning drama, I was later than expected and, frankly, just tired. I know it will be late, but hopefully either tomorrow or Wed I'll get it done....don't hold your breath though.7 -
Congratulations on your 5K @Fit2btied2016 . Sounds like you have caught the running bug!
Just caught up on the thread. Thanks so much to everyone for the kudos on my race.
Congratulations on your first place win on your 5K too! @kgirlhart ! Excellent time. It's great that you and the lady motivated each other.
@Teresa502 You did great with your run on Saturday. Which park did you run in?
@Laurz9191 That's a beautiful picture of the Christmas trees. We used to cut down our own out of our field when I was little. They smell soooo good. Sorry to hear that the family is sick. I hope you all feel better soon!
@AlphaHowls Hugs to you. Do you get SADD? I think we all do to some extent. My dad would get it pretty badly, even though it was never diagnosed as such.
@Scott6255 Sorry you didn't BQ this time, but hitting your goal pace AND getting a 15 min PR is AMAZING! Love your family photo too.
@Tramboman One of my most vivid Christmas memories was waking up one morning and seeing a ton of little insects running all over the living room. Apparently a praying mantis egg sac had been hiding in the Christmas tree and they had hatched out after getting heated up in the house. It took us forever to get them all out of the house.
@tarun_yadavA Wow. I guess I didn't realize it snowed that much in London. It's beautiful.
@Scott6255 So awesome that your son is catching the running bug too!
@martaindale I'm glad that your plan is working and you are able to run without any pain. You're doing great!

There's a chance of thunderstorms in the morning tomorrow, so I decided to run today and take my rest day tomorrow. It was a little windy, but other than that it was nice. I haven't seen many critters lately, but I did see a fox today. It was a nice 5 miles. I am almost halfway to my goal for December.

@quilteryoyo great that you found a local shop to fix your tire, and they were fast and inexpensive! I love to find small local shops.
@martaindale good decision on not pushing it on your Achilles. You are doing great. Race(s) will be here before you know it!2 -

Glad the local shop was able to fix your tire and get you back on the road. Hope you made it home today safe and sound. I ran up at Bays Mountain. It's not too far from my work but unfortunately in the "winter" months they close at 5 pm and promptly lock the gates out. I've known a couple of people who were late getting back to their cars and have had to call the after hours number to get someone to come and unlock the gate to let them out. In the mornings it doesn't open until 8:30 M-S and 11 am on Sundays. There are miles and miles of trails up there but just not easily accessible to a working person. In the Spring, Summer and Fall they stay open until 8 so it is possible to get up there after work and get a good run in. They have a great nature center and planetarium.5 -
Nice run @kgirlhart .
Thanks @Scott6255.
@Teresa502 I wondered if that is where you went, but couldn't think of the name. I went there with my step-daughter's family a couple of summers ago and thought it would be a great place to run, but it is a long way for me to drive and it costs to park......and I'm cheap frugal. I'm surprised they would lock the gate if they know people are still in the park. I would panic.
I made it home at about 4:30, unpacked the car and suit cases, and then went down for a mile walk on the treadmill.5 -
