Elliptical - 15 min, rower - 5 min. It's not much, but it's a start. Reminded me of something I've said to others on here a dozen times. Start now. Don't wait until Monday, or the first of the month, or the first of the year. Start now. So I did.
Also went back and checked my weight record, and I was at 174.1 as of January 1, 2022. I was at 152.6 this morning. I feel like I cheated... but there has to be SOME silver lining, right?
In fact, I'm exactly where I wanted to be for my maintenance weight. Between 145 and 155. This is where I want to stay, so now I'm going to have to get vigilant about my intake again.
There are worse things.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR11 -
Hi Gals,
I have been reading but really not having time or energy to respond. I am delighted to hear about everyone’s holidays. I decided to just finish up the list for the year:
11 Something you use every day. My espresso maker
12 Something you don’t need anymore. I have a bag and every time I find something some thing I don’t need I tuck it into it.
13 Refuge – space you love in your home – my living room, there is a fireplace a couple of comfortable of chairs, the coach
14 Item of clothing
15 Taste – prefect cooked pasta
16 Touch- my dog leaning against my leg
17 Smell – roasting garlic
18 Sound - birds
19 Sight – sunrise
20 Texture- cashmere
21 Color – purples
22 A song that makes you happy – take me home country roads
23 Type of weather you love - rain
24 Professional who helps you – The garbage man – I am thankful that my garbage and recycling goes away every week.
25 Something you take for granted – roads in good repair
26 A TV show that you look forward to watching – I don’t watch much TV
27 A movie you watch over and over – None
28 An opportunity you’re grateful you had – a College education
29 A place you love to visit - Alaska
30 A tool you find incredibly useful – my computer
31 A daily habit you’re happy you’ve cultivated – a daily walk
Flea – so sorry to hear about the crazy mess of everything over your holiday time. You are right Christmas will never be the same without your Mom, but it will find a new normal that will feel okay in time. She will always be with you in spirit.
Debbie – While I don’t live with my Mom she is as passive aggressive as your DH is and for me counseling helped - I found by responding differently to her I got a different reaction, I am sure it would not be enough if we lived together but sometimes every little bit helps. As everyone else as said you deserve to feel valued.
Pictures - They are all a delight! Except Beth’s of the snow which are terrifying – Staying home is the best advice in that mess!
So my Christmas was completely different than I expected and will have me processing for some time to come. I think I mentioned that my plans had changed when Levi (my dog) got uninvited to Christmas, Levi is 55-58 lbs; and one of the other attendees at Christmas has a 5 month old baby and has read online that “all big dogs eat babies” so her baby can not be around big dogs until she (the baby) is 13 years old. Forcing the hostess to choose between her and family or me and Levi. I was really hurt by the choice to believe internet nonsense – and my friend knew it, I have since apologized for my reaction. She got put between a rock and a hard spot, and I know from past experience that she will always choose the path with the least push back.
So my decision was to be home for Christmas eve and on Christmas day to drive the 2 hours for gifts and dinner, and then drive 2 hours home. I had worked out with a neighbor that they would come downplay with Levi, feed him dinner and put him inside when it got dark, knowing that I would be home by 10pm.
Not ideal but it was late to make other plans so that was that – as it got closer, I was less and less happy about the decision but resigned. Then on Saturday morning I got the call that the host and hostess were exposed to covid and were re-scheduling Christmas. I was sad for everyone but secretly relieved. When I told the neighbor who was helping with Levi, they invited me to Christmas dinner – I brought the appetizer I had planned to bring to my friends and had a nice time.
They have decided to reschedule the holiday to New Years, I will not be going – for many years my Mom and I have celebrated “Christmas” then as she does 12/25 with my brother and that is not a safe option for me. This year it will be my Mom, the god kids Ben and Emily and maybe Kyle and his girlfriend Kassidi, my house will be full if all 6 make it, as everyone will spend the night. I am planning fondue. One of cheese and one of hot wine/broth for cooking. It should be a blast!
This also affects all the holidays going forward as it is tough to find a dog sitter. Levi is not good with other pets so he needs someone to come in or to go to someone’s home who does not have pets. And while some would be ok with drop in sitting for their dog I am not, I want Levi to be inside and with someone during the night. It may seem crazy to those without pets but for me Levi is my best friend and who is there for me though thick and thin. For me being single my dog is my companion as much as a partner would be for many folks with of course many differences as he is a dog.
I am thankful I am seeing my counselor each week, we will be discussing this and figuring out how I work out something that makes the holiday time easier and more pleasant for me.
Sorry this turned out to be a “book”!!!
Smiles Kim in N. California

ps Lisa - Great advice start now! and great job on the weight loss! Tough way to do it, but it's gone and that is a nice plus!
Kim2 -
Somehow I missed a whole page 63 on my PC and had to go back and find out what I had missed.
Flea ~ Hugs! So sorry about the messed up holiday for you and your family. You have all of our loving thoughts for you.
Karen ~ The pics of the girls are cute. Your young swimmer is quite the athlete. I'm glad they got to see your new apartment.
Debbie ~ This may be none of my business, but, I have to agree with Karen that perhaps your husband resents what seems a too close relation you have with your ex even though you don't feel that is so. It is awful that he feels trapped by his manipulative mother and expects you to be drawn into it. It all seems a mess and seems to put you all in a no-win situation.
Kim & Lanette ~ I'm glad your neighbors invited you for Christmas dinner/brunch and you both enjoyed it.
My DH has been feeling off for the last several days and I am praying that he does not have flu or Covid. If he does, I am praying that it will be mild.
I cut about an inch off my hair today and it actually looks better. Turns under below my ears. I've gotten where I dread going to the beauty shops because you never know who you will get and how it will turn out.

Kim - Thanks, what a nice thing to say. I'm so pleased you were able to go to the neighbors for Christmas. Your New Year's bash sounds wonderful, I've never actually had fondue. And I totally get the thing with Levi. We haven't even left Egg for one night alone, and she's a cat, supposedly independent, etc. Still haven't done it, and no plans to do so...

Flea, Karen and Kylia have both said what I would say, you deserve some me time. And as Machka pointed out, you can still have a family gathering in January. Hugs to you on the loss of your mom and all the other stressors you've had to endure.
Beth, your area has made the news here too. Crazy amounts of snow!
Kim, I'm so glad that Christmas worked out for you! I have never been a dog owner/mother, but I totally get that he is your family and you want to be able to take care of him. We did leave our cats alone for a few days at a time, they were indoor/outdoor cats and we did not have a cat door, so when we got home, they would be at the door constantly, in, out, in, out just because they could! lol it was somewhat annoying, but we understood so we humored them. I hope you have a lovely time with your family on the 31st, sounds like a very good option for you. I just have to shake my head at the folks who won't let their daughter be around a larger dog til she's 13. Crazy. Don't apologize for "the book"! I for one enjoy reading about what's happening and if others don't, they can skim or skip. And I've been known to write them too.....
Lisa, happy to hear that things are looking up for you and that you are having more good days, but still..... I haven't done any research, but a few friends have had different ailments and some of the treatments have surprised me, you are so right, some of it will scare the bejesus out of a person! Especially when you realize that this happened by accident!
Speaking of ailments, I am on day 6 of antibiotics for a UTI. I'm so glad that I was able to get in touch with my doctor and get to the pharmacy when I did. Of course, this all started just after we got a big dump of snow, roads were impassable for the first day and police were advising that if we didn't have to go out, please don't. I was only too happy to stay home! It was starting to snow on the Monday, so I went out and got everything that I thought we needed so when we woke up Tuesday am to a foot of snow, I was not worried. The symptoms had already started so I bought some cranberry juice hoping I could flush those pesky little bugs away, but no.... Anyway, I knew I couldn't get out to a main road til Thursday, but was able to keep it sort of under control. Even onThursday, the roads were not good, not horrible, but not good. Did take the opportunity, since I was in the store anyway, to pick up a few more basics, milk being the main thing. And now the snow is pretty much gone, although there is a big pile near our garage where the snowplow that did our complex left it. The grands will have fun there tomorrow!
I must go and get some stuff done, there are two loads of laundry needing folding and I want to try making Rebecca's peanut brittle today. Got my big measuring cup from Amazon on Sat, so I'm all set!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

My word for 2023 is FREE.
I do feel so much more free of so many things than I used to be.
My neuroses
My perfectionism
Judgement of others
Expectations of others
Demands of others
Competitiveness
Material desires
Envy (more an aspiration) !
Every day is a new start and I can choose my attitude.
I am free to be me.

27 A movie you watch over and over. White Christmas
Read a few pages when I woke and couldn’t get back to sleep. Was comforted by your presence, thank you all. BUT like someone ?Evelyn?Annie? said when I read on my phone, I can’t remember all the “who”s and “what”s to which I wanted to respond, but Allie’s family’s cabin’s beautiful fireplace did stick in my mind. Oh and Sue’s frozen pipes, praying they didn’t split/burst, Rori’s wild airport drive and Karen in VA’s brother’s Nutcracker and Lanette standing in the cold holding the feeder for her hummingbird.
This morning, our internet is out affecting mfp not just on laptop but cell phone too. Cell phone still works for calls, just not anything internet related, even though Cellular is “on” for mfp and other apps.
When Joe left for his annual exam he couldn’t get out from our lane. Blocked by two big trees, each at least a foot in diameter. Four phone calls later (state police road hazard who referred me to Brookings police who gave me the right number for the county sheriff who called back) the county roadmaster advised that since our lane is private, it is not their responsibility. She suggested we contact a neighbor with a chainsaw. We’re sitting tight ‘til after Joe’s “virtual” phone appointment, hoping one of our younger neighbors will handle it. Woo HOO! Just got a call from our neighbor giving us the all clear. He said he’s been clearing the lane for the last twenty years. When I asked how I could thank him, he grudgingly admitted to accepting Christmas cookies. Gonna seize the chance to evict fudge and toffee with some cookies. Win-win!
Kylia, welcome back! So very very VERY glad to see you posting. Well done on linking your new habits to every day actions. Works for me too (e.g. PT before weigh in or it never happens).
Karen in VA that art teacher, SHAME. Glad you were an adult. What that would have done to a child SMH. “will be played by Earl” another tea-snorter. Rosemarie ((hugs)) housecleaning always depresses me too, but Joe would be too uncomfortable with stranger in the house. Back in Boise some Merry Maid stole some of his classic comics. No more house help for Barbara, except Maizey the Roomba who leaves his stuff alone
Machka “…SQL clause is coming to town” made me snort my tea. “A figure of speech”? about balancing the checking account to the penny? Yah no, just looking it over for unexpected withdrawals wouldn’t work for me. Something about obsessive compulsive behavior??? And yes I still write checks, for donations and minor bills. While I do use bank’s electronic paying for some things, and even switched mobile and internet bills to autopay from credit cards, I resent the deductions the middle man takes from the donations. Hence the checks. Astounded that checks are not accepted where you are. Love, love LOVE the boxing day meme.
Barbie your walks sound so appealing, ‘specially since I’ve been sick/stuck inside for four days.
Allie Myles weking up happy smile-priceless!
Heather ; the Christmas celebration pics.
Flea heckuva welcome home. Way more than “a little sucky.” ((Hugs)) for the Christmas that wasn’t. Hope the rest of of your family’s travels are safe.
Debbie ((hugs)) for first Christmas not going up to Mom’s. my two cents: wouldn’t be in a hurry to resume those tasks, let DH and son step up to the plate! Reading further I am sad and mad at your DH’s childish and selfish behavior. No time like the present to “change the rules” and set some boundaries/expectations. (hugs) and Couragia!
Likewise Annie hugs for your Dad’s first missing midnight mass. Hard times.
Rita that is a willful radio!
Lanette loved your kitty story and yes, I miss Art Bell too. Then I saw Earl’s “What???” expression. Think my laughter startled Joe. Eeuww for the Farm Friends. And yes I remember Metrecal. Doulbe Eeeuww. What about your local 4H? They’d love a mentor and they have the critters…
Beth love the image of your DH and the lab snoozing and snoring. Glad you’re keeping safe. Really loved yours to Debbie and look forward to seeing her wearing her tiara.
Pip well done about the gift and the tactful “thank you.”
Carol holiday losses are especially sad. ((hugs)) for your SIL and brother.
Lisa not just the look on Levi’s face but his sister’s boardinghouse reach
Barbie your Cascatelli pasta with olive oil, peppers, onions and feta sounds so good. Think I have everything but the Cascatelli, will substitute whatever pasta I have in the way back reaches of the pantry.
Lisa yours “corrosive to all” to Debbie. Mot juste.
Heather “It’s great to have fun” and it’s great to have fun vicariously following all your adventures. You give us all zest.
KJ how about a magic pair of ear muffs, that when you don them, they broadcast “Do not disturb, come back later” to your family? Safe travels to Texas!
Tracey Bravissima for your skillet restraint and blessings for your kindness to your friend. No one’s brother should make them cry ever, but especially not at Christmas. Loved the Christmas pics.
Debbie what Tracey said about support. Assuming your DH would resist, could you not find a counselor for yourself? Someone to listen and support you? Keeping quiet to not piss him off sounds like what I was doing with Joe for 10 years and it was not good for our marriage or for me.
Annie good luck with the phone swap. Glad your dad is so intent on his health, sorry he only hears what he wants to, that will make the teaching hard.
Rebecca thanks for the incatation. Seems to be working on the earache which may have been the source of both the sore throat and the headache. You have powers, my dear. Love the video chat screen shots of you all! Prayers for a good appointment.
Vicki almost 40 years, wow.
Sue goats visiting neighbors.
Karen in VA Yours to Debbie. Likewise Joe and I had a real rough patch but luckily our counseling fixed us. Life got way better and just in time as the next year was a rough one. Not sure I’d have survived had the marriage stayed the same. that your athletic grand wants to be your workout partner. Woo HOO!
Michele no headphones came with PJ’s electric drums? Oh NOOOO!!!!
Kay I don’t write in a check register but note every transaction in a spreadsheet (of course). I keep a separate spreadsheet of all incoming and out going moneys that don’t involve the bank, like cash and credit card transactions. Welcome to Rebecca’s to-the-penny club. I admire your budget and categories. What’s YNAB?
Lisa “whether I want to or not” yes, that’s how I do my morning PT exercises.
Machka, Kay, Karen and all who track expenditures by budget categories, you scare and inspire me. Think I’m afraid to see where the $$ goes. Any hits for broad categories/percentages to incorporate into my “actual” spreadsheet? I tend to be over-detailed then overwhelmed.
Carla whew for inches. I probably misread it, headaches make me stupid.
Beth those blizzard photos
Rats! After sitting here hours and hours, reading and catching up on my phone (still no internet), got kicked out of the community and get “server cannot be found” when I try to go back in. Time to get up and do something else. Will post this later when internet restored
Woo hoo, internet back. Not a wasted day, feel like had a much needed chin wag with good friends.
Katla that much sleeping is worrisome. Prayers for you both.
Lisa, Kylia, Rita starting is the hardest part. Well done.
Congratulationsn Lisa on achieving your goal weight, even though it was done the very hard way.
Kim yours to Debbie. Well said. You made me say something I never thought I would. Thank goodness for Covid! As for understanding about Levi, we don’t even leave the dogs at home alone. One of us is always here.
Whew, that’s it, all caught up. Time to make lunch, feed the dogs and move around a little.
Lighter, lovelies!

Kylia: What about something like Progression for your WOTY?
CarolSo sorry to hear about your sister-in-law's loss. We seem to lose too many people during this season.
I had a great day today. We started out with a smoked salmon brunch.
Despite the wet morning, DED had organised a walk along Belfast Lockshore. Fortunately, it cleared up and we had a lovely time with her and two of the grands. DYGS had made mulled wine, and various people had brought mince pies,
Christmas cake et cetera. The Sun even came out for us and we saw a little bit of blue sky.
Virtual (((hugs))) and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Belated Christmas wishes all. While on vacation with family for Christmas I took a break from most things internet. Only checked work stuff up until last Thursday am. Had lovely Christmas. Christmas Day we ate dinner on patio. I missed the big storms but came home to remnants. I was fortunate with flights. Flight out was no problem. Coming home yesterday we had a 2 hour or so departure delay. Saw many flights cancelled. Was very glad I had straight through flight. When we got to Columbus, there were rows and rows and rows of luggage in baggage area. Each airline had them organized alphabetically. I heard a woman comment "They are just taking things off the belts and not letting people get them." She didn't seem to realize that the people and the luggage just aren't arriving at the same time. So I have no complaints regarding my travels.
Flea-as others have said, Christmas is a season. And even though it has tremendous meaning to me, I really don't think they have the birthdate correctly. Celebrate with your family whenever you can-make it your special celebration.
Kylia-good to see you back. You have certainly had some interesting events this year.
Was good to see continued healing for many of you.
Beth-Buffalo is indeed having a winter to remember.
Will be giving thoughts to goals for next year. Retirement is definitely there-sometime in second half of year. My son pointed out that I am technically loosing money working. Want to go check out the five places on my list for moving into and gauge date on when selected place will be available. I would prefer to move over to Columbus when I retire (like that weekend) to aid in transition process.
Go to see youngest son and wife for Christmas tomorrow. We are doing gifts then we are going to one of his friends who does tattoos and I am getting my first tattoo. Son had gotten a penguin on his forearm, very simple, and I really liked it. We share a love of penguins. So we are doing that and a lunch.
It is early but I am feeling jet lag-going to go get a cup of tea and then head in to sleep.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Kim - glad you had a nice Christmas at the neighbor's, worked out all the way around. Totally understand how you feel leaving Levi behind. We were always the same way with our dogs. When I'd take DH to the doctor and the kids were "home alone", we couldn't wait to rush back and see the doggies.
Right after I read your post, and Lisa's about Egg, and Barbara's about not leaving their dogs alone, I opened a Christmas card from my SIL. She wrote at the bottom "I sure which you'd come back (to Indiana) and visit us."
Well, I'd love to see her and my brother and Indiana, it's been over 10 years. And more than 20 since I've been in Indiana. I might go back for a visit some day. SIL flies all over the country several times a year, but recently had a double mastectomy and is having complications (lymphedema) and is down in the dumps.
If I could get that teleporter out of the repair shop, I'd do it in a flash. No long drives or airports to mess with, no long teary good-byes when I left. No leaving Rosie and Kitty with strangers. I could take them along!
Guess I better figure out this zoom thing in the meantime
Barbara - glad you are feeling better and the fallen trees were taken care of. You get the award for best note-taking and response to posts the past several days!
Heather - love the photo collage. What great fun!
Tracey - wonderful family photos as well.
I know there were many more photos, I didn't take notes but enjoyed them all. I feel like you gals are a part of my extended family.
We lost power for an hour this morning, had fairly high winds and over 2" of rain. I think the worst is over.

Today was a very ey rainy day4
-
Made it through the worst of the snow and cold. Warmed to 20's today so our roads are much better. Didn't go to painting class today because too many illnesses are going around. Once I've been on my prescription Vit D longer I will rejoin.
So finally I able to get out and our garage door spring broke. I think our severe cold contributed to its snapping. I am keeping my car out minus the garage door opener and anything of value in it. Set up to fix on Friday. I am just glad it didn't break during our bitter cold!
Thinking of Flea and Beth4 -
I made chicken soup today, enough for four meals. We'll have soup for lunch tomorrow and put the other three jars in the freezer for the future.
We live in a manufactured home park so the house is ours but the land is not. The park management takes care of the trees and checks them to get ahead of things if it looks like a tree is in danger of falling. Yesterday a tree was taken down in our yard and three others elsewhere. We were able to watch the whole tree cutting process. These trees are at least 100 feet tall, so it's quite a process.

KJ You actually wrote how I have felt all year! Not smooth. Not awful. But definitely off. It is like part of me is in another dimension or something. Just weird.
Terry I like it! PROGRESSION ....I will be putting that on my mirror. My goals are set up in a progressive fashion so that is perfect.
Ginny- Welcome back to Ohio. After the wicked cold, now we get fall temps again. Go figure. I use to think it was just OH, but I believe it is everywhere. I know many folks had flight issues this season.
Paperwork at work today-ugh. Suppose to have a $10,000 parts order in and I can only come up with about $4300 that I am comfortable ordering. Repairs and sales are down for 2022 by about 35% across the board. Scary times. We have a new mower shop going in less than 5 miles from us. It is a multi million dollar business that specializes in 2 of the lines we carry. They are due to open next week. Then today I heard that the Ace hardware about 2 miles from us, is moving into the shopping center across the street from us. I think some hard decisions will be more near future than far. I am not yet old enough for retirement with insurance. The insurance is the hard part. We were suppose to get raises at work this year, but the insurance premiums went up so much that we opted for no raises to keep our better insurance. My insurance premium is almost equal to what I bring home! It is ridiculous! So to put it in a positive light, I actually make twice what I bring home-lol! Seriously, if it weren't for the insurance , we would be okay if I wasn't working. In the meantime, we do what we do as well as we can, and hope to make it through another year of mass merchants and other competitors.
Need to get a few things done and head to bed. DH said nothing about getting up 30 mins later this morning I think I ate too much today, still need to log, but feeling really bloated and miserable right now.
Healing thoughts!
Hugs because we all need them!

OMGosh Katie... I haven't written a check in... YEARS! I know exactly what goes into my account and what comes out every, single day and month and can tell you, just about to the dollar anyway, what I have. Hubby is like you. Does whatever he can by check and register. Not because he "likes" it, but because he doesn't, IDK "trust" the online functions. I do as much as I can online. I don't have anything automatically paid except for some recurring things that are cheaper that way like our streaming service. But I pay our Amazon bill online, obviously. But I also pay our utilities online. I pay for groceries online and then hubby goes to pick them up. That way I don't impulse buy. I love that.
Love and Blessings, Carla, in MN
Most of our things (income and outgoing) happen automatically, and I also order my groceries online and have them delivered. I order pretty much the same things each time, except maybe at Christmas when shortbread ends up in the collection.
Ordering online also means that I get an itemised list of what I buy so if I had the time and felt the urge, I could compare between months and years. That's also handy for my cycling club expenditures.
