Hey all! Happy Saturday! Trying to catch up on reading posts and replying!
Tracey - I am sending out the best thoughts to you and your family! What a lot of issues to be dealing with all at once!
Machka- While my job is mentally frustrating due to the "lack of adult interaction"; I don't miss those coworkers/managers who complain about everything. They certainly can make a work environment toxic. I like the way you have responded to her b**ching, though. Mature; plus not replying gives her nowhere to go.
Vicki- My heart just broke at the words that you have had thrown at you by your mom/family members. I am so sorry you have had to endure that. I hope, as an adult, you have come to realize that you are worthy. You are worth all of the good things.
Suebdew- Sorry to hear of your (was it brother in law)? Safe travels for you and your DH as you go to support and say goodbye.1 Sit in silence for three minutes... it's harder than you think. Done
2 List 5 things using each of your senses. Currently: The sound of crickets from the boys sound machine in their bedroom, the smell of grass and fresh air from the open window, the blue/white glow of my laptop screen in the dark dining area, the taste of coffee, the scritchy feel of a tag on my shirt (that I will be changing out of soon)
3 Let go of at least 5 items in your house. I am not home right now, but my linen closet is going to take a BIG hit when I get home.
4 What was your favorite Christmas gift? (this year or ever). Not counting my youngest son being born on Christmas Eve; I would say a leatherbound copy of The Hobbit from my youngest son. It is not my favorite book, but it was the fact that he gave me a book. This is the first book I have received as a gift, since childhood. It is the thoughtfulness behind it.
5 Move for at least 30 minutes today- this will be easy as the boys and I will be taking a walk to the playground this morning. Extra movement will include: playground, putting sand in the sandbox and water in the water tables, building a fort in the living room, and setting up "camp" under it.
6 Share a goal you achieved last year- I am not a gardener; so my goal of growing some fruits and veggies with the kids was met. We grew green beans, carrots, radishes, and watermelon. We are going to try again this year with a bigger garden and more variety.
7 Slow down and savor one meal today- Well, the 7th was a travel day, so the meal I savored was actually a burger and fries. BUT, it was after eight hours with only a granola bar and it was in my own home, while regaling my son and hubby with "grandson" highlights.
8 Who was your favorite teacher- My favorite teacher was my 10th grade English teacher. She recognized a natural ability for language/communication in me; a kid who had a hard time staying on task, especially when it was a topic that didn't spark my interest. Instead of completed written work on the assigned topic; she let me submit a rough draft on a topic of my choice and do an oral presentation and discuss it(just the two of us). Unfortunately, she died of cancer before I graduated. I spent a lot of time talking to her about things and she was/is missed greatly.
9 Create something today- Hoo boy! Well, I have already created a to-do list; but I don't think that is what they are looking for here. I will be "creating" something on Saturday...maybe I will switch this one with another day this week.
10 What is your favorite lyric from a song: " A flight of fancy on a wind swept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I" Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd
11 Send a card/note to someone today: I have been thinking about my cousin, recently divorced and struggling in the singles scene. I sent her some "words of affirmation" in a card today.
12 What are you looking forward to in 2023? I am actually looking forward to getting my garden started this year with my childcare kiddos.
13 Tell a random person they look "good" today- I didn't get out in public to do this, so I will do it today
14 Tell us three amazing things that happened recently- I have begun grocery shopping online and AMAZINGLY, I like it! lol I was able to get down into a low (child style) squat AND able to stand back up unassisted! I was able to come up with a work around (that his OT hadn't thought of) for one of my childcare babies who is having sucking/drinking issues and upper body gross motor issues! (Benefits of being the "eyes in the field" on a day to day basis)
15 Call or text someone you haven't talked to in at least a week- called my older sister who lives in Florida. She was surprised (usually she calls me for the "checking in").
(back to #9: 9 Create something today- I actually created a snowman game with cardboard pieces. The kids are given a blank snowman. They spin the spinner and it lands on 1, 2, or 3. Whatever number it lands on, is the number of pieces they made add to their snowman. Winner is the one who completes their snowman first.
16 What made you smile today: One of my childcare kids told me that I "look good. Like a spicy chicken nugget!" That made me laugh.
17 Take a photo of something you're grateful for: I am grateful for inquisitive and curious little minds. It keeps me learning.
18 What material comforts are you most thankful for?: You can make your list as long as you like... I am thankful for coffee, electricity that gives me light and warmth, warm clothes that keep me comfortable when I am outside in the cold, my gas stove and oven because I can make/warm anything with them even when we lose power.
19 Write a positive review for a company for goods or services you've received recently: Oooh! I will be writing my review of this wonderful book I read called Where Am I? by Heather Eyles
20 Write down five things you like about yourself: 1) my skin, 2)my sense of humor, 3)my optimism, 4)my sense of adventure, 5)my healthy gut21 Pay it forward in some way
22 What do you most desire in your life right now?
23 Go an entire day without complaining
24 What about you makes you special?
25 Spend time with a loved one
26 When was the last time you felt pure joy?
27 Hold the door for a stranger... or a friend
28 What fear have you overcome?
29 Engage in a random act of kindness of your own choice
30 When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed?
31 Now try to "meditate" (sit in silence) for ten minutes...
Word for 2023 Restore
Well, I am on week two of my cold. DH wants me to go into the doctor, but it really hasn't gotten any worse. I think I am at that place where I just need to let it run its course. Colds are exhausting as they can just hang in there for a while. Yesterday, I only had two little ones in my care. While the baby took her morning nap, the three year old was doing her best to run me ragged. lol I got out some of the sensory bins (her favorite things), dried beans, the rice treasure bin, and the kinetic sand. She likes to "transfer" beans from container to container. Weighing, measuring, spooning, pouring. It didn't take long before the weigh scale tray was full, it tipped, then my floor was full of beans. Three year old, Peyton, jumped and said, "Oh! That scared me!" I think she was more afraid of how I was going to react. But I just said, "Wow! I don't think I have ever seen that many beans on my floor!" She got out of her chair and "helped" me pick up. I used a broom, while she picked them up one by one and asked, for each bean, "What kind of bean is this?" lol Then she knocked the rice bin off the table. Then the sand got everywhere. All of this within an hour of arriving at my house. People talk about terrible twos; but I really think three is the exhausting age. They are into everything, have questions about everything, and want independence while not really being able to control their bodies/emotions well enough to have it. EXHAUSTING! Anyway, it stopped raining yesterday morning, long enough for us to get a walk in so that she could get rid of some of that energy.
I have my order in for groceries at one of my stores. I will be going into a couple of other stores, because I want to use coupons that I have and I want to pay cash. I have a load of linens and other items to take to Salvation Army. I have to do some "touch up" painting this weekend. I have two interviews for childcare coming up this week. Both families have infants due this spring, but won't need care until August and October. I have a new infant starting in April. I feel like I am drowning in babies. lol I talked to DH today, about a goal I have to be able to have a "teacher's" schedule, and have summers off. We looked at the projected finances and decided that we can make this happen by the time I hit 60. That is only four years away! Whoot! I can live with that. Well, the sun is coming up and my day needs to start. Sending love and hugs to all of you who need it!

Kylia - May I return the compliment. I can see your shop and your life as clear as anything! Thank you for your lovely full posts.
I dashed out this morning, after exercise, to buy some flowers to take to my son's as a welcome gift. I love going to our local flower shop. Two gay guys who are always up for a chat. I bought white flowers with some greenery as I don't know how they have got their colours in the new place. Don't want to clash!
I then stopped at the butcher for haggis, then into the deli for a nice chat, bought far too much, and I bought an orange to boil for orange cake to make and take to the family. Got home and realised I didn't have enough ground almond! Oh well, I'll make it tomorrow and give it to my son on Tuesday. It's better kept a couple of days anyway. I've boiled the orange.
Then made the pigs cheeks in beer for tonight, in the IP. Yummo!
Rang my friend L, who seems to be doing well. She was in the midst of clearing out her kitchen cabinets. It was nice to be able to talk to her about my ex husband, because she knew him very well. Probably better than anyone apart from me.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx5 -
Sang in my former choir yesterday at a funeral for one of the members. She was such a joy and sweet person I wanted to be there to be part of her life celebration. She was eighty eighty years young. She sang in the choir up to a few weeks ago.
It was a lovely service and full of music. We sang Fly Away Home. Her children sang many of her other favorite songs. I got a compliment from a stranger she noted how I stood out because I sang with such joy. I told her I channeled Janelle. She said she also heard the last note I sang. The last hymn was How Great thou Art. I hit a high A to end as a tribute to her she was a first soprano til the end. I am keeping the program from the service in my music folder so she will be singing with me whenever I sing with my church choir. If I can bring a fraction of the joy she shared throughout her life that is the way I can pay it forward.15 -
Morning ladies
Boy I had a wierd dream this morning, but it had my cousins and my brother and it was in my childhood home
Somewhat appropriate for today..and thinking of my dad. 5 yrs today he has been gone. I know he is still watching over us and met Mr Miles before he was born..
I have a picture of my dad on my phone and I show it to Miles and he just lights up..
One nice thing about living alone is I'm on no schedule and do what I want except for when im watching the little guy..7 -

Tracey ... so much to deal with at once! I'm praying for you and your family and really hope that you will be able to see your mom!
IP ... I hate mine. Nothing I make turns out right except yogurt and that really isn't what an IP was created for.
Lisa ... the negative tapes ... I know those too well ...
Margaret ... How wonderful that you were able to sing in the choir as you remembered your friend. I can see you singing with joy!
Day 21: Pay it forward ... have to think about this one.
My doctor's appointment went well. She was thrilled with all of my lab numbers except the LDL. Overall cholesterol was good but my LDL got too high. We attribute it to all the cheese and crackers I've been eating ... my comfort food through the holidays. I'll be working on my fat consumption.
Gray again today ...

Otherwise, I'm not sure what to do with the dill ... dry it?
M in Oz[/quote]
Dill is fabulous with salmon.
I also use it in a cold cream cheese veggie pizza.
Hi everyone!
The only thing I got done the other day was taking my donations out of the house.
I realized in that half-block walk that my inactivity and respiratory issues have done a number on me and I have to start slow, slow, slow.
Which pisses me off because I used to walk 8 miles with no problem.
Anyway, goal is to clean my apartment today.
If I have energy when that is done, I’ll walk to Dollar General to get my household supplies.
I have made a beautiful discovery.
My body knows when I’m eating wholesome food and it feels fantastic.
I made avocado toast for the first time this morning, with hummus and sunflower kernels on sprouted bread, with tangerines and a cup of soymilk. Somewhere around 400 calories.
OMG.
Savory, and crunchy, and filling. Will do again.
I won’t need anything until midafternoon.
It’s amazing…last night I snacked and snacked and snacked….on junk. Nothing satisfied. I was hungry and empty.
This morning it’s like my body is saying “FINALLY!!!! Something I can use!!!”
It’s funny what happens when I actually listen to my body.
I found an anti-inflammatory meal plan by Eating Well on Pinterest I’m actually going to follow for the rest of January and February.
We’ll see what happens.
Blessings to you all.🙏🤗

I haven't seen or spoken to or communicated with my ex in about 20 years ... longer than we were married. I don't imagine we'll ever get in touch with each other again. Never say never, because strange things can happen, but I'm quite comfortable if we don't cross paths and it would be quite a surprise if we did. Some things I like to leave in the past. It happened. There were a few good times. I probably wouldn't be where I am now if I had gone a different route. But this is where I am now and I'm a different person than I was back then.

I didn't hear a thing from my ex for 20 yrs then suddenly, on my birthday, I get a friend request on Facebook from him.
He wished me a happy birthday, apologized for everything, explained why he left(I had no idea for those 20 yrs. He just left). He regrets so much and wishes things were different. And we have been talking almost daily since. He is my best friend. I am also back in touch with his whole family.
Never know what will happen.

Machka-Dill works well with eggs/egg salad. I often chop up various herbs and toss them in my eggs in the mornings. Also good in cream cheese, compound butter, potatoes/potato salad, and of course fish. I like it with flakey white fish.
As for my career, I also like quiet work environments and talking to as few people as possible in a day. That's why I'm not doing that role anymore. It doesn't suit me anymore...maybe never did.
Tina in CA3 -
Well Machka, I am so glad that something has been done and I sincerely hope that things are better on Tuesday and going forward. There is nothing worse than dealing with with those kinds of people.
Margaret, HOW WONDERFUL!!! What an amazing tribute! A high A! I'm jealous. I could never hit that, but I'm an alto, so I wouldn't even try. Will you sing at my funeral? That's one of the songs I want sung. Such a beautiful hymn.
How silly is it that I'm actually excited about cooking dinner tonight? I've told you that Freddy usually cooks dinner for us... literally almost every night. Last night, probably 9pm, out of nowhere, I said, "I'm really hungry for spaghetti." And spaghetti sauce is my thing, always has been. I make exceptional spaghetti sauce, if I do say myself... and I do! So I ask him if we have ground beef. Yes. And I go looking in the pantry for everything else and the only thing we don't have is some canned sauce, so I ask if he'll pick some up "tomorrow" and he jumps at the opportunity NOT to cook. So I'm cooking tonight and I'm really excited! Silly me.
21 Pay it forward in some way... does ^^^ that cover it? Probably not, but I'll think of something. lol

I have had a talk with my dh and told him my plans. My one daycare girl will start 1st grade in the middle of Aug. She will be going to school all day then so I would only have her about an hour 3 days a week and 2 hours the other day. That is not worth it for me to be tied down. I will be dropping her then. They can have her in the after school program or her grandparents can just pick her up a little earlier than they have been. I plan on taking the rest of the year off(available as a back up for her if needed) and enjoy the holidays then look for a new family after the first of the year. This way, I still get the tax write off which is the only reason I am still doing the daycare. Get one part time baby for another year then be totally done. I will be 61 in March. I have been either teaching preschool or doing daycare for the past 40 yrs. Dh has decided to cut back and only work one morning a week. Time for me to get some time off.

It’s been 31 years for me.
Mine would have contacted me sooner if he had known I had tried to contact him over the years. His second wife threw away the cards/letters I had sent after I found his address. They were very simple- Happy birthday-hope you are doing well and happy- that was it. He had no idea she was doing that(I only sent a few beings I never got a response). I found out after she passed away that she had also told my former father in law to not have any contact with me when she found out he had written to me a few times. She was very jealous and insecure. She threw away any pictures of me. He did have one that he kept hidden.

Debbie: Sounds like your mostly retiring.Congrats! if i am understanding your plans correctly!
Machka9: I can't believe how brazen that co-worker is.
Tracey: I hope BIL is doing better
Ginny: Hope you get some rest this week end!
Rebecca: I do have one memory of a nudist beach on Martha's Vinyard back in the 80s...It was fairly private...not tooCa crowded and people and small groups kept to themselves. There was mud and sea water and people were having fun playing in the mud! It was the 80's after all. I think now a days I'll stick with wearing a bathing suit!
Carol: I have never hung wall paper and am an ADD type and think I would have glue and paper sticking together all over the place!
Annie: We went horseback riding as a family in North Ga. We were novices. I kept testing my trail horse to see if he would stop if I pulled the reins. He got really annoyed with me! He knew the trail and all these requests to stop did not agree with him!
Viv: I have had times without motivation. Are you bored? Do you ever make to do lists?
RVRita: 7 to 10k steps! You go girl!
Michele: Valentine's Day cards! I am still on pause from XMAS!
Lisa: I don't know how we would manage without Telehealth. We would probably have my husband on hospice. We need to go out on Tuesday to the cardiologist and we are going by ambulance...private pay. I just can't take my husband in the disability van anymore. He can't manage the wheel chair and he is on bi-pap. Too much for me.
Karen: Yes, I need a smaller project to start with. I was looking at Embroidery Guild website for ideas. They have a booklet to down load on the various stitches. I will get a dinner cloth and go to JoAnn's for supplies!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Lisa – I love my Instant Pot. So much so that I have two at home and one down at the condo. I just haven’t gotten to using it too much for meats. Need to work more on that.
Rebecca – when I took a belly dancing class, I was always so impressed by the ladies who felt so comfortable in their bodies. I know you are the same way
Off to the play now
Michele NC
I had a gentleman approach me in the hot tub (we were friends with him and his very slim wife Vella), and whisper, "I have always loved your fat roll" into my ear. Creepy? Maybe. But I knew it came from a good place. I think I said thank you, and turned away politely.

Deb - the navy beans you put in your IP, were they from a can? I’ve been afraid to put beans in the IP because I’ve always been afraid they’d fall thru the grate and burn. I bet they’re real good in there. So how do you do it? I’ve done ribs. How long do you cook your ribs for?
The play was real funny
M – we used to have a lady who volunteered at the soup kitchen who I silently called “Mrs. Sourpuss”. I would kill her with kindness
Nite Nite everyone.
Michele NC
I think there is one of those in every soup kitchen! We had a gal like that, that would get on me for little things here and there. She ran a tight ship, and I suppose I was too goofy. This was the place on the Oregon coast.

Good Saturday!
Rebecca, Lisa, and Heather UK You all write in such a way that I can "see" and feel what you are writing about. What a wonderful gift!
Bathing suits I learned from my youngest daughter to appreciate my own body. She had an eight week old baby, still carrying all the weight and we were at the beach with her in a two piece. Her thought was she was comfortable and if someone didn't like it, they didn't have to look! When DH and I went on a business reward trip to DR, I struggled with whether I should get a one piece (business) or a two piece suit for trip. Ultimately ended up with 2 bikinis that I loved. I really dislike wet material on my belly in particular. I did wear a one piece when I went to the water parks with the grands when they were little. It was more likely to stay in place I think I am a nudist at heart. My DH has FINALLY gotten use to my nudity at home.
IP I have one, but since most of the meat we use is relatively fatless (venison and boneless skinless chicken breast) it just doesn't seem to work very well. Makes great hard boiled eggs though!
Kelly Beans, Sand, and what was it....rice? Bet your floors were really clean after that!
I was exhausted last night! Forgot to put my Fitbit back on (was charging), didn't log, and didn't check in here. My head hit the pillow and out I went. I had expected my DH to ask to be brought home when I told him I had to go to the groceries, instead he asked where we were eating! So we went to eat and he even considered what to eat for health before ordering. Then off to get our pick up order at Kroger, stop at Lowe's to pay our bill (which was due yesterday-oops!), off to Market for beer for DH, then Trader Joe's for produce. Stopped briefly at friend's house to drop off something we had picked up for them, then finally home at 8. Put everything away. Realize that the strap on my purse is coming apart It is one of my favorites, so put it in the closet until I can see if I can find a new strap. That lead to organizing the stuff in a new purse and cleaning out my backpack for work. Switched out laundry and then it was after 10. I need to sort those papers this morning. Last two loads of laundry are in the washer and dryer. DH reconsidering going to Kentucky as they are calling for snow. We will see after work what he decides.
I need to log yesterday's foods, sort these papers, and fold some clothes.
Hugs!
Prayers!
Encouragement!
Cheers!
TTFN,
Kylia in Ohio
Its only because I write to my numerous pen pals. I write like we're sitting having coffee somewhere. We do not discuss politics or religious. I have many gals that say, "when I get a couple letters from pals I always open and answer yours first"! That makes me feel good, and I value their time and energy into our friendship and " hobby". You know I am still writing to the one pen pal that has the loopy cursive writing that I can not read? Our friendship is into year five! I answer any sentences that end in a question mark, but for the most part 80% I can not, for the life of me read. But she takes the time to write it, and that's the special part.💖

Dear Ms. Spicy Chicken Nugget,
I am writing to you, to ask if I can join in your play group. I am 60, love snacks, and I take naps well. 🙃😂🤗
All those photos just ooze of fun!

Had a great visit to my son's rental apartment. Edie had made a cake and made us cups of tea. We went for a walk and left at sunset.
The block has an Oriental restaurant, a health club and spar , a gym and a barbers.
Came home to heavenly pigs cheeks.
Passed Marroccos which still had a queue! In the dark. In freezing January!

Well I am working today. Really quite as no one in any of the offices are here. I did talk to nursing supervisor about my knee and she thinks it is not my knee but the ligaments and tendons under the knee. Which makes sense as that is where it hurts and buckles. I have an appointment with my doctor Tuesday afternoon. It really upsets me that I did this trying to get healthly and exercise. In the meantime I have it wrapped and trying to keep it up.
KJ--You are such a Blessing for the children in your care. Thank you for being you.
Debbie--Sounds like a good plan and you have earned it.
I have gotten some things done being I am here by myself and have the next schedule done. Not going to make everyone happy as one person is having surgery so going to be off for a couple weeks and we have to cover.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE where it is in the 30's and snow is still here.3 -

Happy Saturday, peeps!
Catching up - Dill is my favorite herb to dry. I just lay the fresh stalks (dry-picked late afternoon on a sunny day) on newspaper on my dining room table. In the early fall heat, they dry crispy in just a few days. I pick out the large stalks and put the dry herb in a mason jar, lid screwed on tight. Use it sprinkled on fish, added to tuna salad, etc. Even sneak it into salad dressings.
I haven't grown any in a few years but load up at the health food store in their dried herbs section. Much cheaper than in the grocery store/McCormick's for example.
Mary - your nephew is awesome, I don't blame you for being proud! I saved the Forbes magazine with him in it. I tell people "this kid is the nephew of an acquaintance of mine."
Heather - nice view from DS's apartment! Glad they are making it work. Cake looks scrumptious.
Kelly - what happy kids! Look at those beans! You are the best daycare ever. I'm with Rebecca, we'd like to join that little team.
Debbie - don't blame you for wanting to take time off from daycare. You've earned it.
You all have inspired me to pull the Instant Pot off the shelf. I have only used it once and DH was worried about the steam. I can situate it so it doesn't "steam" the kitchen cupboards. I eat so many dry beans, I can put it to good use.
Vicki - glad you are seeing the doc about your knee. My left knee gets painful at times, and also seems to be tendon/ligament related. Stretches and PT type moves helped a lot.
Stopped at the Credit Union yesterday to withdraw a little cash and the customer service gal said "do you realize you don't have a beneficiary on your account?" I knew that, but kept putting it off. Turns out, it looks like beneficiaries come before wills. So my heirs can avoid the tax man. I'll get that taken care of on Monday. I'll probably leave them enough to buy a couple dozen eggs.
Rita - You raised your family just like I was raised. Cloth diapers, canning, all that good stuff my farmwife mom and grandmothers & ancestors did for eons.
I stood beside my mom as she butchered hundreds of chickens over the years. And took on the task myself when we raised chickens. It was always hard, though, eating critters we raised. When meat comes in a package at the grocery store or butcher shop, there's no personal connection.
It doesn't want to warm up today, we've had snow (not sticking) all morning, temps are around 36.
OK ladies, have a great rest of your weekend!
Lanette
