Machka—I have never signed out, from the very first day. Now I do not have access to my computer. All I have is my phone. My son has my old laptop & I don’t have a new one yet. It is a frustrating situation for now.
Rebecca—Thank you for your kind words. They help and they make sense to me.
Right now our son is packing up the contents of our home in Oregon and getting ready to send things to where we are in Illinois. DH is working to get healthier and there is progress but it is slow.
If I had a choice, I would buy a one level house with a view of the river in Oregon. It isn’t going to happen any time soon.
This group is a gift and I am grateful for all of you.

Tina thanks for the knee advice! I just looked at the AARP site for knee exercises and they also said front straight leg lifts. I will put them on my dumbbell routine list.
My bike is such a hassle I don't use it. I have to move the car to get it out, then pump up the tires. But who knows, the warm weather is coming.

Machka: Take time to definitely enjoy your time off. Working at 64 years old has presented some unique challenges for me. I guess I’ve experienced a lot and know the ultimate outcome of most actions. I just ordered a copy of “Microsoft 365 for Dummies” because I am having trouble changing the way I’ve used software in the past. I am finding that I have to keep a changed mindset for myself especially when working with much younger people. I find myself constantly saying to myself “I remember when I acted or thought that way.” I exercise lot of patience and tolerance. The other thing I’ve found is when I know the answers I don’t need to share them. Best wishes for your new position. I am hoping to have a new one shortly.
Debbie: You are on my mind and in my heart. My DH is a Vietnam Marine with PTSD. Early on I recognized that he was subject to awful outburst that really broke my heart. We were fortunate to benefit from veteran administration’s counseling for the both of us. The counselor did tell me that he had an extreme bond with me and that I should never put him in a position that he thought I was threatened or that I was leaving him for someone else. Through the years we have been able to work through issues successfully. Although I hate to say it most of the time when he started to act out I could see the stupidity of what he was doing and had to control myself from laughing. However, last year he had such an outburst and yelled some of the most God awful things that I gave serious consideration to leaving him. I went so far as to look for other living arrangements. (When I saw the current renting costs I had to step back and figure out how we were going to live in this house together.) So I bided my time until things were calm and recalled the incident and stated how I was feeling. I asked him about his feelings and was extremely surprised by his response. Summarily it was the culmination of pain in his shoulder, hands, and knees, and him feeling inadequate “as a man” especially as I am 9 years younger than he is; things don’t work the same way when you are 74 as they did when you were 54. We have been able to work with his doctor to alleviate some of the pain and am working through a mind change to accept the fact that his body has changed. Rafiq is having a knee replacement on Tuesday. I’ve taken off of work so I can play caregiver. My main task is to make sure he gets up and walks! He will be in the hospital for one (1) night and it will be his first hospital stay. He’s a bad patient! We had to have a talk and agree on that fact. Make sure that there are not some physical issues that can be rectified and work with his physician. Don’t forget prescription and OTC interactions. One time I had an extremely competent staff member who all of a sudden became extremely incompetent. Finally it was found that he had several tumors growing in his brain and was terminally ill. One thing I know is that I love this man, as flawed as he can be and as flawed that I am. Make sure you exhaust every avenue.
Rafiq and I have had COVID 3 times now so our routine has become routine. We really isolated ourselves and used masks but the first time went out to a restaurant for my birthday dinner we got it from unknowing very close friends. We are glad we did have our vaccinations and boosters. Our favorite drink is Starbuck’s Medicine Ball Tea. I make it by the gallon – Honey Citrus Mint Tea and Lemonade; add honey to taste. A shot of Cognac sends the patient to sleep.

Hi Gals,
Tere - I had to tell you my 2 neighbor story – neighbor 1 – 73 yrs old, does almost no exercise, not even much walking, needed knee replacement, found a doc who would do it without starting with PT, had the surgery done, spent 3 months in a rehab center, and now 1 year after surgery is very unstable and walks with a cane. Neighbor 2 -63 yrs old, walks is very active, needed knee replacement, did 3 months of pt, and got a personal trainer to help strengthen upper body and the leg that is not having surgery, had the surgery done, came home same day, 5 weeks ago tomorrow and is walking 4-5 miles a day and has been completely released to go back to her normal life (only restriction is no running for a week more and no snow or water skiing for 2 months) Encourage your DH to get the rest of his body in good shape first!

Did a tracy Long Longevity DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Pilates for Inflexible People DVD.
After exercise went to WalMart. There were Girl Scouts outside selling cookies so I bought some for Vince. After buying them I had to stop at the bank for more money. Then stopped at Brevard Charities thrift store and found a vase. Now I’ll have to get the flowers, but I’ll wait a bit to be sure Vince is better. Then stopped at SPC thrift store to see if they had MIL’s sewing machine and for how much but that section of the store was closed. Then stopped at Upscale Retail where I found a shirt. Then home.
Lisa – it’s good that you aren’t real sick. Imagine if you AND Cory were sick as can be! At least you can help him. Hope he gets better fast

Happy Birthday Carla!
Thank you for all the advice. I started a journal; I will add in my symptoms and what’s going on with my
body. And not just what I ate and my personal whining LOL. I started a detox and cleanse to try and reset my system. I also downloaded some walks from Treadmill Trails, so I have something to look at while I’m on the treadmill. The sun is trying to shine maybe I’ll shovel out the steps and deck later.
Jeff is going to get out the tractor and clean off the driveways, thank goodness.
Lisa/ I hope the C will finally pass and you both will feel better. Love the daffodils, give us hope that spring will finally show its face.
Barbara/ We lose power here a lot, not even just for bad weather. We’ve had snakes, crows, wind and I think phantoms disrupt our power. Last year my husband tired of it and installed a generator.
Debbie/ My daughter lives in Seattle. She is getting a kick out of the reactions of the people there with the snow they got. She grew up driving through it (a lot of it) every winter here. Hope you start feeling better.
Pip/ I love the raincoat. The corgis would revolt if I tried to put anything on them.
Machka/ You are way better than me. I could never not return your co-worker her ire. So glad you get a break from her. My FIL used to keep bees. I bet your honey tastes amazing. My camera also has a Shrek filter, but for some reason it only does it to me LOL That’s why there are very few pics of me. (My mother complains all the time)
Tere/ I have done Noom. It really did give me some insight into how my mindset works. I have yet to unfortunately what I learned into practice. I was contemplating rejoining, but they have changed the program and coaching, so I came to MFP.
I’m off to shave the floors as we say here. The corgis are doing their seasonal undercoat shed, so we have double the corgi tumbleweeds to vacuum up. They’ve already destroyed a Rhoomba, and my little very old canister is getting a workout, along with the Shark and Swiffer. Who ever thought we needed TWO Corgis and a new kitten in this house should be… Oh, the new puppy was my idea (teehee) the husband brought the poor lost feral kitten home (softy).

I do get a kick out of the animals in clothes. We never did such things with our animals-it is funny picturing my husband doing that! Lucy is styling Pip and that's a good color for her.
Not really good at sizing pictures etc., but I have mentioned my cats stopped going out side a couple of years ago. Yesterday when I was picking up a package, Zombu zipped out the front door. She looked around and realized where she was and sat at the door pitifully wanting in. (Ignore porch-got partially scrapped but not painted before winter-on the spring list
Machka-wish I could come over and terminate that co-worker for you. That is the sort I have no problem telling they need to find a better fit elsewhere.
Lisa-good luck with Corey. Maybe you can at least get him to take extra breaks?
Haven't accomplished much other than watching movies today. Well, I paid bills, ordered gs bd present and some new essential oils. But mainly I have made sure my couch has not moved. I have been successful at that.
Going to give a try at loading dishes in dishwasher and cleaning humidifiers. No promises on how long that may take!

On rainy days, I put their raincoats more for my benefit not theirs. They’re are all inside dogs. When they walk they kick dirt onto their belly so having the coats on them they stay a lot cleaner and less for me to wipe down before they go in the house. So, not really for style

Ah... 7 pm here, and I trundled up to the little grocery nearby and got a box of TheraFlu and Mucinex to get my DH a little more comfortable. He's been flat out in the recliner all afternoon reading or watching TV, which means he really DOES feel like ca-ca. He's off to bed with a glass of V8 Splash for hydration. Hope he can sleep.
I've just done my usual chores, doodled around and such, but concentrating on him has meant a better day for me because I'm not concentrating on ME. Huh. That's probably some kind of breakthrough in my self-pity serenade, but it's dark and my brains refuse to concentrate. So, like Scarlett O'Hara, I'll think about that tomorrow.
Should be pretty much more of the same tomorrow.

Belinda – I hear your daughter. We lived in the Poconos before moving to NC. The people freak at just the mention of the “s” word. Just its mention brings EVERYTHING to a halt. It’s just funny. But the bad part is that people don’t know how to drive in the snow. They seem to think that if they have 4 wheel drive, they can go anywhere. And people do buy 4 wheel drive. When we knew we were moving to NC, we bought a vehicle specifically without 4 wheel drive and we’ve never once missed it.
Walked 6 times around the parking lot. With it so dark, I really don’t want to go out of the parking lot. At first I went 4 times around, this time 6 times around, I’m thinking that maybe the next time I’ll do 8 times around.
Tomorrow after the pilates exercise, I’m thinking that I’ll take a walk to a grocery store. I’ve done it before so I’m sure I can do it again. And I want to go before it gets real warm. One thing I want to get is meat to make a beef and barley casserole for Vince. I’ll have something else. Need to check to see if I need any spices.

My former difficult coworker is about my age ... she's 50 and I'm 55. While I have recently graduated with a Masters in IT and have more or less kept up with technology, her Master's degree is in Physics, she graduated about 25 years ago, and she hasn't taken any courses since. I think she reached the upper limit of her IT skills and has not been sure what to do to solve the database problem. One of the reasons I was hired was to solve the problem ... and, thankfully, I was able to present a solution.
Good on you for taking steps to keep up to date!
BTW, if you type 'microsoft excel (or word, or powerpoint, etc) for dummies free pdf' into Google, you should be able to find free pdfs you can download. They probably won't be the most recent version but could be one version back.

My fit grandmother had a hip replacement when she was in her early 80s and 6 weeks later was walking to the shops at the brisk pace at which I go for my lunch walks. She had her cane with her but used it to point or jab at things rather than to lean on!!

In other words, on February 1, you'd walk to a street that starts with A or do an exercise video hosted by someone whose name starts with A or something ... A.
On February 2, you'd go swimming at a Beach or play a game of Baseball or something ... B.
On February 3, you'd go Cycling or Climb some stairs or something ... C.
and so on.
There are, of course, 26 letters in the alphabet and 28 days in February, so you'd have 2 free days if you didn't exercise those days or couldn't fit in the next letter of the alphabet.I have listed several January highlights so that meets the calendar suggestion for February 1...
And I walked to the Asian "dollar store" next to the Asian grocers and bought Art supplies at lunch today. That'll be my A.
Put myself in someone else's shoes --- I've been treating my difficult work colleague with kindness by talking to her about her son, complimenting her skirt, talking quietly and gently to her and so on.
And today, I walked to Bathurst Street to Buy some Books. I also climbed stairs in my Building.

YES! I tidied a shelf in the kitchen. I've been meaning to do that for months but finally did it today. There was a large quantity of rubbish on that shelf ... more than I thought. So, much of the cleaning process was just throwing things out.
I've also been dusting our entertainment unit and all the stuff on it.
And I went outside and tidied the area right in front of our front door which involved moving a whole bunch of pots and other garden things to a different location and then sweeping out a year's worth of leaves and stuff. I climbed up and down and up and down stairs doing that.
This evening I made an attempt at digging the area I want to plant things next to my dry stream. I got a new spade which is great, but even so, there are so many roots, I'll need to use something else to break it up.
Just getting rid of Junk and Jabbing the Soil
Make twice as much for dinner and either invite guests or deliver a meal to a friend ...
We're actually doing that sort of dinner thing on Tuesday.

Every day. And this week, I've thanked a lot of people! My husband for doing such a good job cleaning the house and doing garden work. So many people at work for giving me the opportunities and for being so warm and welcoming.

By not being there? Hopefully my husband and I will be able to apply teamwork.
In the alphabet exercise challenge I have Y and Z to go.
Yesterday could have been Y ... Y not go downstairs and row given that it is pouring rain! We'll see if another Y presents itself today.
We've had 37.6 mm (1.5 inches) of rain in the past 12 hours or so ... my dry stream isn't so dry!
And it is supposed to be rainy all day today so it will be an inside day.

I am taking things one day at a time, do my best to be supportive to him and take care of me. We have been married a long time and hope to continue together for as long as possible.

That's the spirit! Know your presence in your husbands life means the world to him. Just being nearby helps with his care. I am glad there's the RN's nearby to help you. That should give you peace of mind. You are where you need to be at this present time. I know you yearn for your own place just like I yearn for my youngest sailor son. I tend to ponder him in bite sized segments. Pondering too long can spin up into a state. Missing your Oregon home, hopefully you'll be able to have some items where you're staying now. Its amazing how those can turn a place into a home.💖
