Our son & daughter-in-law have both been sick so many things are pending. I expect a new laptop when they are feeling better. My son is getting the new laptop ready for use. It is much easier to use a laptop than typing with one finger on a phone. I’m looking forward to the laptop’s arrival.
I appreciate the help from Pip and Machka. I owe both of them thanks for helping me.

Welcome newbies and returnees! (((hugs))) to those who need them.
Aren't those the best, Debbie!!! Freddy doesn't hug "well" and I am a hugger! Geez, it was great to get a really good hug... TWICE!
I also have a cousin that. She's just a sweetie and we're such good friends. We used to live close enough to see each other regularly, but they moved "up north" last year so now it's only during the summer.
Oh Tracey, that's just so cute. He wants Mom's jam. I'm sorta giggling and almost crying at the same time. I totally get though. Glad he can joke with you though.
Love that smile Karen!!! Aurora is a beauty!
What a great picture of all your friends, Allie, and a wonderful treasure.
OMG Margaret, are we tired of this schnit yet? And the parking is a MESS!!! I take my life in my hands just walking across the parking lot at school every day.
Then we got a call from the youngest (Anne, the Marine) last night, around 830. She's at Menard's at 494 and Nicollet and her truck won't start. Nothing. Click. So, we both drive out there, just in case it's more than a dead battery and we have to leave the truck there and give her one of our cars for the night. But, we get it jumped and she drives home. Parks in the garage, "tush" in, turns off the truck, tries to turn it back on right away, nothin'!!! So instead of a relatively relaxing weekend, Freddy's over there today, driving in this snleet (lol, which is actually snow today), jumping the truck again today to get it out of the garage so they can take it over to Bobby & Steve's and get it fully checked and a new battery. (hopefully, that's all she needs)
So I'm home, playing with my cards, and Freddy's out in this mess. Nothing much more. Love ya!
11. Stay fully present while drinking your cup of tea or coffee... always

Hello all! I slept in until 6:30 this morning, after staying up later than normal last night. I woke up feeling "off". A little vertigo and like I need more sleep. SO...I am putting off my grocery trip until tomorrow morning. I did make a cart for my main store and I might just put that order in to be picked up tomorrow morning and have my son grab it for me. We will see.
I have been busy and mentally distracted with a new two year old starting this past week, and a new infant due to start in a couple of weeks. I feel like I am mentally trying to psych myself up for it. lol
My hiking trip with my son has been postponed until 2024. His hours at work have been cut a bit and his best friend is getting married this summer and the bachelor party is actually a bachelor camping weekend that is going to cost him a decent amount of money (each guy pays his own way, and they all chip in and pay the grooms part). I am kind of bummed; but this fall my childcare business is really peaking. I will have 14 children enrolled with 10-12 children in attendance each day. Four of them under 12 months. Four of them between 18 mos and 24 months. I am a bit nervous. I just have to make sure I have enough seating, strolling, cradling equipment for all of them, so it is easier for me to transport them from one area to another. Anyway, postponing the hiking trip until spring of 2024 will work better for the both of us.
Welcome to all of the new ladies!
Re: Salad dressing- I have found that a spritz of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon, and a bit of sea salt goes a long way on salads and veg. It is one of my favorite ways to eat my vegetables. I went to an Indian restaurant once and they served the green salad with a dressing of olive oil, minced garlic, and sea salt. It was warmed to infuse the oil with the garlic flavor, then mixed throughout the greens. It was wonderful. I don't buy many premade dressings because I like to control the fat, salt, and sugar. I make my own ranch and use cottage cheese as the base. Hello protein. I personally don't care for ranch; but my hubby and childcare kids do. The cottage cheese takes all of the fat of the mayonnaise and buttermilk out of the equation.
Re: caring for parents- I agree with everyone that elder care/living costs in the U.S. are horrendous. My parents passed when I was 26 (they were 58 yrs old and 62 years old, and reasonably healthy); so I have never really had to contemplate caring for them. When my mother in law needed round the clock care and we/her sons decided to place her in a facility a few years back, her home and assets needed to be sold and used up before she could qualify for any government assistance. Ironically, she passed away the day her house sold. We all do what we can to help those we love or are related to. AND we can only do what our brains/emotional state will allow us to do. My heart goes out to all who have had to care for their parents/spouses/family members. It is a tough road physically and emotionally. Kim , although I can't give much on the ground practical first hand advice, I am always here for you for emotional support. Sending you all of the love.
Taking care of grandbabies/homeschooling grandbabies, Another tough call. Because taking care of children is my job; I have told my own children that I don't really want my grandchildren as part of my childcare group. A lot of grandparents watch their grandbabies to help out. To help the parents save money. lol I can't afford the paycut I would have to take to watch my grandsons. That would be about a $25k/year pay cut. In regards to homeschooling, I have seen homeschooling done wrong; and seen it done right. A lot of homeschool programs are actually done classroom style with kids from one area meeting together and doing their lessons together with teachers. The independent work needs to be supported and facilitated by each child's parent, though.
Allie- I am confused about who Kyle and Tracey are considering homeschooling? Is it Carmine or Myles? Myles is waaaaay too young. The best way for Myles to learn is through play and exposure to new environments/people. Also, if Tracey and her friend are comparing Myles to her friend's baby daughter? No. No. No. Do not compare babies! All babies learn different things at different times. Myles walked early. He looks like he is pretty coordinated (good eye/hand control). Babies brains generally focus on one area at a time. So if Myles brain is focusing on gross motor skills; his other skills (like language) will take a back seat until the brain turns its focus to that area. PLUS...In general, girls are FAR more verbal, and verbal/vocal earlier than boys. This lasts through their entire lives. (Think about all of our quiet/non communicative husbands for example). Entire comedic stand-up routines have been written in regards to this huge communication gap between the sexes. lol Oh, and about the heat. Or lack there of. I am glad spring is coming and soon it will be warm enough that you won't need the heat; but another solution to help them cut their electric bill. Because I am home with kids all day, having the heat really low is not an option for us, during the day. We turn our heat down at night while we are sleeping, cozy under our blankets. Eight hours with lights off, heat down, devices off/unplugged does wonders for the electric bill, just saying.
Pip- The camping trip looked wonderful!
Tracey- I am laughing at the kiss held hostage by the missing jam! lol
Barbie- I have decided that in the apocalypse, I am pitching my tent by yours. You are hardcore. You are the warrior woman. I need some of that to rub off on me.
Rori - What a great job! Do you get to "sign up" for the events you want to work? Or are they assigned to you?
Heather- The kids house remodel is coming along. I can't wait to see pics of that kitchen! Wowsa! By the way, your watercolor painting is really looking fantastic! I loved the second try on the view outside the window. Your technique is improving; you can see it in each new work. Hugs!
Karen VA- Baby Rory is adorable! What a sweet smile!
Machka- I love all of the work you have done in your yard! Plus your bees! Wonderful!
Hugs to everyone! so many that I want to respond to, but I need to jump in the shower and see if I can get rid of the cobwebs in my head. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

Carla Sorry about the truck. Hard enough without the schnit! Something similar happened to a friend earlier in the season. Her son-law brought a SUV that was having car problems to their heated garage during a snow storm. One of their cars had to come out and get buried in snow. I have a feeling next time they will ask it will be towed to a service station.
Husband couldn't understand why I replaced a six year old battery that was still working. Your situation and he forgot about when we had to drive my mom with a broken hip to emergency (at least it wasn't winter) and his battery died because it was so old is why I did it.5 -
Don’t get me going on todays 20-30 year olds! All the ones I’ve worked with at the park have no work ethic, take regular naps, along with days off and breaks, and just don’t understand that when you have a job, you show up, have pride in your work, and do your best!
Sorry about the rant. Just frustrated with the way this park is being run.
My shoulder is getting better slowly. I did yoga yesterday but no weights. I’ll eliminate the weights for now. I like the yoga because I feel better after the stretching and strength session. Even though I only do 10 -15 minutes at a time. For me, it works!
I try to buy organic as much as possible. I read a book called ‘Wheat Belly’ which both surprised me and turned me away from American grain products. No offense Joy But after reading how they used Round Up to speed up harvesting, I became very cautious about grains. I believe you don’t being organic so if I had access to your products, I would buy them. I try to grow my own tomatoes, peppers, and some herbs and onions in buckets here at the park. The ground here has too much salt and Lyme in it that only salt grass and salt cedars grow in it. I was pretty successful last year so already have planted lettuce seeds bunch onion seeds and some pepper seeds from last year’s crop. Now to get a new hose so I can water them every day.

Kelly, I applaud everything you said about homeschooling and caring for grandchildren. Those are my sentiments but you said them better than I could have.
Annie, I have been inspired by your consistent dumbbell routine and have gotten out my copy of "Strong Women Stay Young" to get back on track with a strength training routine. I have been doing stuff hit and miss and basically doing almost nothing. I started relearning the exercises, choosing the locations that work, putting my ankle weights and hand weights where they are easy to get to, and finding the right time to do the routine. I discovered that they can be done while wearing headphones so I can exercise and be entertained or inspired at the same time.
Melanie, I am older than you are, but in the last six years I've had two series back injuries, one that required surgery and the other that required a month of lying down almost all day for more than a month. They were challenging because being active is a major part of my identity. I learned a lot during those two recoveries and I am a better person today because of those opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. I wish you well. I hope you will keep coming back here and join the discussions that interest you.
Katla, hang in there. You are still with us and the details will get worked out.

Hi, all. Thought I would pop in and introduce myself. I have been lurking in the background reading all the comments for quite awhile and feel I know you all. A little about myself. I'm soon to be 73 and farming with husband (organic farm) in Alberta. Love gardening and maintaining large yard keeps me active and busy in the summer. Have traveled quite a bit then at age 65 my world was turned upside down with a cancer diagnosis. Went through a year of chemo/radiation treatment and to date cancer free. Planning on a trip to Ireland in April with a couple of friends and looking forward to it. Will be my first overseas trip since the pandemic. Have been struggling with keeping my weight in check. Had gained about 30 pounds over the isolation/pandemic period and still trying to get about 20 pounds off. Scale is slowly moving in the right direction. Enjoy reading through all the comments.
Joy
Hi Joy,
I'm also an Alberta girl. I have probably spent the most years of my life living in Alberta.
Now, however, I'm an Australian girl.
I'm glad to see that you're cancer free and have a trip planned.
Machka in Oz
Thank you, Machka. Nice to see a fellow Albertan. I notice this is quite a diverse group and ones from Alberta and BC. Been reading about your health issues too and hope you will be able to get a resolution. So important to be an advocate of our own health. I was fortunate to have a good doctor at the time of my cancer diagnosis but have certainly had my share of what I would call duds over the years. Living in a small rural community seems to have an impact on doctors willing to serve our area. In the past, if I didn't like what a doctor was telling me or felt he was missing something, I would ask him/her to refer me to a specialist....which they always did. I'm sure there are a few comments in my medical file about that but quite frankly don't care....my body, my health. Funny that after turning about 60 I became more vocal. Before that, was quite shy. Old age can be good.

Well today I'm going to cut ten inches off my old clear shower curtain and use my glue gun to glue the magnet pockets back in. Or use my iron to fuse them onto the plastic without melting the whole dang thing! Wish me luck! I think I will need it!
Then I need to make biscuits for Lee's Sunday breakfast. He only has a couple with sausage gravy that he likes (from a can gaah!). I have offered to make him gravy and he says no worries. He has started cooking more over the years, so I let him. The fact that most of my meals I make for me is during noon and 4 pm, he gives me a pass a couple of nights during the week when he burns up meat and heats things. I swear that man has the patience of a ghat! When he warms up soup its on high, or when he fries the cubed ham for a breakfast meal he puts it on hi too! He just likes to stir and catch the ham cubes popping outta the pan. He's such a man/child!
My middle sister told me she might switch to electric heat with a fan. That's what we have. They live out in the country and the cost of the Natural Gas line from the main road up to her place would be thousands of dollars alone, not to mention installing it in the house, changing the duct system etc. She is hoping to get a loan for all this. I hope she's able to, as she has this issue of no heat every winter. She confessed to me that she would go and buy oil transporting it and emptying it in the tank in the front lawn. Over and over, just to get it to come on for a bit when the girls would come home from school. I guess even back then the oil truck can only come out if you're willing to pay for a full tanks worth. Buying lets say $100 worth probably isn't cost effective for the oil trucks to drive out. At least that's the way it is with the propane trucks here on the island. We have a gauge and when we're down to only 30% in the tank, we can order it. We used to buy it at 50% left but they stopped that since gas prices went up.
I did tell her this week every time my heat went on, I would say a little prayer to her hoping they would get their heating situation resolved. She was able to pay for some more oil in the tank so they have been cozy the last couple of days.

Joy - We are going to Norway this June. Right up to the North Cape in the Arctic. Originally the ship was continuing to Russia, just around the corner, but that's obviously been cut from the schedule! It's 17 nights, leaving from Dover. We look forward to our cruises all year.
On a previous Arctic cruise we were meant to stop at the Lofoten Islands, but the weather was against us. That is on our schedule again this time, so we are crossing our fingers that it's calmer this time. We have to go in by tender, which can be hairy if rough! Last time we had booked a RIB trip to see the cliffs and the seabirds, so we were very disappointed. Strangely enough, the islands keep coming up on an advert for our favourite TV shows, so we are getting a preview, as well as the fjord we will be visiting!
I hope you fall in love with Ireland. I've been there three times and it was wonderful.

Heather that sound amazing. I looked up the Lofoten Islands as I had never heard of that area and it looks absolutely stunning! Norway has been on my bucket list for a few years but not sure if I will make it there. I have taken a cruise to Alaska and saw amazing sights...glaciers for one. Look forward to hearing about your adventure when you get back.

Good afternoon or evening, as the case may be... and welcome to our new chums!
So, I barely achieved 2000+ steps by lunchtime, but that was just from my chair to the bathroom or my couch to the bathroom and back. Painful and exhausting when it's this frequent. I quit counting at 15 trips. This afternoon, things have slowed down considerably, and I'm grateful for that.
So... sent Corey off to do the shopping, and he usually runs about 90% getting the ones I actually want. Worked for me. He also got a haircut and stopped to pick up some trim and silicone caulk for the new bathtub. The latex caulk they used basically just melted away. That's OK, it's an easy fix.
Trying to figure out what to take with me to the lawyer on Tuesday. This is just the initial consultation, and I'm not sure how much this whole shooting match is going to cost--but I want some peace of mind for Corey if I take the dirt nap first, or for our kids if it works out otherwise. I'll probably take the Big Book O' Death, but I need to look through it first and get it updated.
Also trying to figure out what to do with the extra firm tofu that has been lurking at the back of my fridge for a couple weeks now. I know within reason that Corey will not be thrilled with a tofu meal--he's the original meat and potatoes guy. In fact, dinner tonight is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, because he's cooking.
Karen - Miss Rory is so sweet...
Rori - Love hearing your adventures and the joy you take in all of them.
Tracey - Love the "kiss for jam" story... it's a moment of love in a hard time for y'all.
KJ - So good to see you chime in with your expertise. My two youngest grands, 3 and 7, wore me slap OUT inside a few hours the last time they were here. I so respect and admire your ability to give these children a home-based, consistent, superbly personal daycare experience that will set them up so well in their lives to come. Your strength always amazes. I can't imagine being in the same room with a dozen kids that young for five minutes, much less five days a week.
Allie - Loved that picture of you and your friends!
((((Rosemarie))))
((((Kim))))
Quiet night at home in the offing - I'm going to go make some pimiento cheese cornbread while Corey naps out in his chair. He's finally starting to feel like himself again, but the fatigue hits him hard.
Love y'all,

Thanks so much for the package of stickers! I took at least 75% of them, cut them into bunches and the rest is going to a teacher I know! Thanks again! I appreciate you!

Lisa-so this inquiring mind is wondering-weren't you stashing some money away to buy that property? Going to use it for something fun now? Good news there will be people there.
Rosemarie-your friend and McDonalds comment needs a serious attitude adjustment. Not all of the "healthy" food is necessarily healthy.
Rori-you are really having some good experiences!
Kim-I understand where you are coming from. If we can be honest and comfortable with the person looking back at us in the mirror, our lives are so much better. It doesn't mean that sticking with our "true north" is easy and not without pain-but our souls are at peace and we can sleep.
Annie-good job on the weight loss!
Allie-prayers for you walking through the losses.
Katla-don't worry-we know you!
Rebecca-I have no words of wisdom but I am glad you are taking positive steps to work on some healing.
Karen-little Rory appears to be developing quite the personality!
Terri-flowers are lovely.
Took a while to catch up having been away since Wednesday. Can't comment on everything but do read it all. Work meetings went well. They feed us too good at these things! Had lunch with brother who had big surgeries and his wife today. He looks well-has put on a bit of the weight he lost. Short term memory really no where to be found. Walking is better than before surgery but still has problems with foot placement (pronates out).
Driving down tomorrow afternoon for GS birthday cake. Will also drop off check for SS birthday-I also got him two cheese balls he likes with the crackers (I got two because they have doubled the price and cut the size in half!).
Will do house work and some work stuff in between things. Feeling pretty tired now-since we spring forward I am going to treat it like 8:30 and head off to bed to read for a bit.
Take care all,

Ginny, no, they're two different houses. The small stone house where they're building on additions for the family with five kids is directly to our west, and the little house that has hosted crackheads and nutballs for the last five years is directly to our north, but downhill from us. Still no word on that one, but no signs up for sale, either.4 -
Ugh. Tonight the clocks spring forward. The time change really messes with my carefully scheduled life. I have no opinion about whether the clocks should stay on Standard Time or Daylight Time, I just hate the change. We have already moved all our clocks ahead except the ones that change automatically in the middle of the night. We scheduled tomorrow's grocery pickup for 30 minutes later than usual to give us some wiggle room in the morning but I'll still be meeting my friend to walk at 9:30. Good luck to all of you who are changing clocks tonight.
