Happy May Day all! You wouldn't recognize it here today-cold, rainy, miserable. Good part is that this am before work there was a break in the rain and I got a quick morning walk in. I think there may be something to the whole early morning light and better sleep (something is working).
Heather-hope you just have some bruises/sprains. Do keep an eye on it.
Rebecca-I would not be brave enough to cut my own hair!
Lisa-hope VA cooperates with you.
Annie-good luck getting over cold-I hate colds.
Terri-good to have you chatting again. Glad that all seems to have gone well with surgery. Don't rush yourself getting back to things-but since you are in good shape you will heal quicker!
Heading out to meet a group of friends for a bit tonight.
Take care all,

Ginny thanks!

Hello Everyone! I'm Diane from NYC. I'd like to join WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR MAY 2023 group. I'm need to this so I'm not sure how I go about officially joining. I turned 60 this January. I have been much heavy than I am currently & lost 40 lbs. a few yrs. back. I have quit smoking (3/17/23) and gained over 10 lbs since quitting. Considering I could use to lose another 40lbs, I knew I need t get myself back on track. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO................... That's why I'm here.
You don't need to officially join, just come here and make posts ... like you've done.
This is a very busy thread so don't feel like you need to respond to everyone. Jump into the conversation when you feel like it.

Ginny, its kind of exciting when I start out, but once I get going there is a point when I can get overly ambitious! Today when I woke up to go to the sauna, my hair was quite "wild" looking. And of course the sauna made it more so. So I told my husband to drop me off at the salon. I said, "you need to fix the wack job I did"! I guess the description of my hair is a bob with an undercut! Under my hair is shaved and it goes around to around my ears. Its nice to not have the weight of it, pls wearing glasses, my hair would get so warm. So that's gone.
So ladies, I got an email back from the Command Master Chief and yes my youngest has transferred to another command. Probably around the holidays as that's when many transfer in and out of commands. So now we have no idea where he's stationed. My husband send a letter to a dept that handles lost sailors etc, so hoping something comes from that. The CMC did call over to the command he is transferred to and asked that a message be sent to him regarding getting in touch with us. Legally he can't tell us where he's at though. When I got the email this morning, it was numbing, I have no tears left. It was a weird feeling. So both husband and I are bummed about it all.
So sorry you fell Heather!! Falls like that can rattle you to your bones. I swear the fall I took in the front of our house here, my teeth felt loose, I was so rattled! I expect your grandkids will play doctor and make tea for you, etc.💖. My sister has quite the nurses kit with red bits of fabric (blood) that they can lay on skin and bandage that up. I was a mummy by the time my eldest sisters grandkids were done with me!
Hugs ladies

So thankful for May.
My presentations at the weekend retreat went well. The theme for the weekend was social justice and Love through action changes the world. Friday night I talked about showing your love for others through acts of service and using your life experiences as a way to be a comfort to others going through the same thing. Saturday morning I just gave a 5 minute devotion on social justice. I borrowed a title from a blog post (gave the author credit) called Justice or Just Us. Then I added my own spin talking about the difference between justice thinking and ‘just us’ thinking. The women were very complimentary and made me feel welcome and relaxed. I even joined in on the line dancing Friday night.
Today I visited my mother and sister and got my walking in.

I need to try and get up early/go out walking earlier and see if that helps me with my sleep.
Walked at noon- so cold/windy/sprinkles. Got my 5 1/2 miles done by the time I picked up Ezie from school. Have Zumba tonight for an hour. You would think with all of that I would be able to sleep great but doesn't happen very often.

One thing I cannot drink is black tea. Green...no problem. Just black
Went to ceramics tonight. Vince left to go to pt so I took a walk around the block. For some reason, my pedometer isn’t registering steps. I KNOW that around the block is at least 3,000 steps, yet it didn’t register it at all. Cut the grass and, dug a bit of dirt, put it on top of these exposed pipes, then took stones out of this holder so Vince could make a new holder, it only registered about 1,000 steps. The low battery isn’t displaying Wonder what it could be?
Hey, got a question, when you are making yogurt in the IP, you need a “starter” (yogurt with the active cultures). Can you use the whey from previous yogurt you made or does it have to be a combination of the two?
Terri – so glad to hear you’re doing so well
Heather – heal quickly.
Sarah and Diane – welcome! Congrats on quitting smoking
Happy May everyone
Lanette – thanks for the link about chia seeds. Lately, I’ve been having them more and more
The plan for tomorrow is to do a body pump DVD
Rebecca – glad you heard from the CMC, even if it didn’t completely ease your mind
I really prefer to walk outside, but sometimes I just can’t (boo)

Allie— “The Answer is my friend is Blowing in the Wind, the answer is blowing in the wind—“
Thank you for the lyrics, and memory of the sounds of Peter, Paul, and Mary. Today the wind has been blowing here in Illinois, too. I’ve been enjoying the wind through my windows all day. I like the view and the sound of wind. —- And the memory of Peter, Paul & Mary.

Michele, well hearing back from him was nice, and I sent him an email thanking him. And for him going the extra mile by calling my sons new command and telling him he needs to contact family, that was unexpected. But not knowing where he is, well that is mind numbing.
Lee wrote a letter to the dept that deals with lost military so hopefully something will come from that.

I have to try to start running more, to get used to it again. Today I did under a 10 minute mile (4mi) which was surprising to me. Maybe 3 days a week. We’ll c if I can keep it up. The problem is I have to keep biking for the MS Ride. We had registered for the 1/2 marathon this year. Too bad they are so close together. Bike ride in September and the marathon in November. Ugh.7

Lanette - it’s been a long time since I’ve had coffee and a cigarette for breakfast. My Dad used to say it was a hooker’s breakfast.
What a sweet coop. I love the colours. I love when someone tells me a story of a passed love one. It makes me feel closer and lets me learn more about them.
Heather - these girls have been best friends since grade 6. I don’t think there is anything one wouldn’t do for the other. They sure know each other well.
Barbie - thank you for a new month.
Today is my Mom’s birthday, 77 I had a FaceTime call with her. She remembered we had been home, remembered DH’s Dad passed and then asked me if she had told me my Grandmother died. Alzheimer’s sucks.
Our daughter came through the egg retrieval ok. 12 eggs. She has been resting in a hotel for the day. They will make the drive home tomorrow.
Heather - Hopefully you feel better tomorrow. Thankfully, you had angels watching over you.
Kelly - I love children’s questions.
Today was 29C here we broke a record from 1931 for the hottest May 1st.
Lanette - I had a quote on gutters last week. It was Leaf Filters, they quoted 12K for 132ft. Our whole roof last year was half that price.
Vicki - too bad we weren’t near each other. I could come work for you and solve both of our problems.
Received another condescending email today. I was a manager for 15 years and have done payroll, AP, AR and accounting duties for 20+ yet she thinks she is talking to someone with no experience or knowledge.
Ugh! I just need to win the lottery or get another job.
Rebecca - The biggest hugs to you and Leigh.

Tracey -So glad the retrieval went well. What a journey it is!
The more I think about it, and I keep having flashbacks, the more I feel it was a miracle it wasn't worse. I was careering out of control across the road, trying to right myself, up onto a 9 inch/12 inch platform and fell off it at full speed onto the far carriageway. Because it was a Bank Holiday, there was no traffic coming at me, but normally it is a busy, fast road! It was a very heavy fall.
This morning I am amazed I slept. I am so grateful I am not dead, or badly injured. I am grateful for the delightful people who helped me. I fully appreciate the gift of the life I have and how things can turn in an instant.
The pain is slightly less than yesterday and I haven't taken any pain killers yet, though I will, with breakfast. I will go down and make tea, but DH will have to bring his own upstairs. At some point I want to wash my hair with one hand!
I am glad to be alive and so lucky not to be living alone. My friend L went through a hip operation after her husband died. Just carers coming in a couple of times a day. I can appreciate those living with pain.
When these things happen to me, I always appreciate them for the check it has on my hubris. It joins me closer to others.
Katie - Good job on the talks. It's terrific to do things you are nervous about. The topics sound great. I studied philosophy at uni, and I loved Kant. He called it the 'categorical imperative'. I try to live by that. Act as if the maxim of your action should become a universal law.
Love to all. Heather, feeling humble today, UK XXXXXXXX

I need to get running too. There's an event I want to do in September.2 -

I tried a little light weeding this morning, and drove the short distance to the garden centre and it was fine. I may be mobile quicker than I expected.
I'm glad you're healing ... but don't overdo it.1 -

Good Tuesday,
Long john day again. We had snow on Mother's day in 2021. Right now, they are forecasting a sunny and warm weekend coming up. Yay! Eye appointment this evening. Took last night off from work paperwork, did home paperwork instead. Walked 20 minutes around house. Actually felt pretty good about work paperwork yesterday. I was caught up with all but invoices, then SIL left for the day. Concentration today is on orders and invoices.
Tracey I hear you! Hugs!
Rebecca Progress, yes, but hugs that son being so mysterious. There are really no excuses these days, not like the letter writing days.
HeatherUK, Annie, and Terry Healing thoughts.
Welcomes to the new ladies! Looking forward to learning more about you.
I am blessed to have ALL of you as part of my village.
Time to get my day going.
Make the best choices you can at the time!
Keep moving forward even if it feels like you are crawling sometimes!
❤️

I have no idea how the military works but if your son transferred to somewhere else, is he really lost?2 -
Michele- Once your milk/yogurt has been heated then cooled; you can add 1/4-1/3 cup of fresh whey (like from your last batch of yogurt), stir it in then begin the fermentation process.1

Digital hoarding could be linked to anxiety, say some researchers, and technology may be to blame
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-01/is-digital-hoarding-causing-anxiety-online-internet-social-media/101905948
Over the past 16 months or so, I've moved from job to job to job to job. Each time I've moved, I've "brought home" a pile of emails and other "digital" things. Plus I get a lot of emails at home.
It has become overwhelming.
So the past few days, I have started deleting and deleting. I am keeping some, but I'm trying to get the numbers down.

Heather- Okay. Who made you the "get butter" card? lol HILARIOUS!2

Good morning ladies!
I feel better despite a crazy night. The house fire alarm went off several times, but no fire. My dad says it was the humidifier on the furnace.
I went to bed early and did not sit through my parents supper. I set out my mom's pills and told her they were out, but she didn't take them. Oh well I can only do so much.

So sad to hear about Gordon Lightfoot passing.. I so enjoyed his music4 -
Allie—I liked Gordon Lightfoot’s music, too. He will be remembered by many of us. 💖.

Well, at the prompting of my doctor friends I went to the walk in clinic. He examined me and sent me to A&E. Looooooong waits, but eventually I got an x-ray and a nice nurse put a plaster cast on it. Fibreglass one next week. It's touch and go whether it will be off for the cruise, but they may give it me a velcro one.
It's a distal radius fracture.
Caught the bus home. Expecting Bea in half an hour, but DH will be here. It's takeaway pizza for dinner! My brain is mush.
V tired.
