Don't know where she came in the race, but it doesn't matter.
While she was doing that, I was experimenting with my brother's painting. I thought I would make just a rough sketch but somehow I just kept going and I finished it in one session! Can't believe I captured his figure and face so well! It's a miracle!
His wife is looking through the door.
Phew!
Now to let it dry and frame it.

OMG Heather. That painting.
And Edie! She is my granddaughter’s doppelgänger but younger.
Wow! Just Wow!

Extra hot today so I walked for two hours before getting groceries at 8AM then again for an hour with my friend at 9:30 then stayed in for the rest of the day
I honored my mother by making turkey burgers from her recipe and telling some of her best jokes

15. Do something to contribute to your local community. Today’s demo at the elder care facilitiy? Start district board meeting minutes tomorrow?
Ugh. Joe woke me at 2am hollering “We’re infested!!!” Yesterday’s warmth hatched hordes from hell. Not just gnats, fruitflies, flying beetles and moths, but [shudder] swarm of termites. Since pest control guy isn’t scheduled to come til Tuesday afternoon, Joe counterattacked with broom and blower and hose, triumphing over most of them. [ugh again] we both had to deal with stragglers all morning. I was loving the 80 degree temps till they woke up the bugs. Joe not so much, his max level is about 72. .Weather returns to our normal mid-50s to mid-60s tomorrow.
Heather hooray for Johnny and hip hip hooray for Edie. Just attempting a triathlon is a triumph of bravery, completing it is a job well done. Bravissima for your brother’s birthday present! Sorry about your thumb/wrist/ribs. Can imagine how hard it would be for someone as active as you to rest much, but please. Your body has had quite a shock. Be kind to it.
Allie glad you’re feeling better, but please report that pain to your nephrologist and get a recommendation.
Lisa Daughter, son, grands, just more reasons to bless that Corey. Neither would I return to the prom era, not for nuthin’! ;} “…a reason to make icing…” Hahaha! But now that you’ve said it, I find myself wanting to thaw out the orange buttercream frosting I’ve stashed in the freezer. . . No cake here but there's always ginger snaps...
Annie ((hugs)). What Lisa said.
Katla what a disappointment! Praying it means a better resolution is in the offing.
Karen “It isn’t like I was never thoughtless about my own dear mom at times.” Sadly, ditto.
Rebecca those pics with Athena and your Chief cracked me up! Happy memories for sure.
Rita glad your a/c is fixed and the temps moderating. Can you plan/do something especially nice for yourself to help you get through this month?
Tina thanks for the tofu taco link. Can I leave half (or more of) the tofu in the freezer for another time? 8 tacos is too many for me!
Ginny congrats on the 3 boxes!
Michele, dang that gravity! It’s taken its toll here tool
Pip wowza!
Margaret I can almost smell those lilacs from here. Lovely vase.
Barbie, would you share your mother’s turkey burger recipe and some of her jokes?
Mothers’ day celebration, in addition to the books and magazines Joe brought me last week, he surprised me with a decorative cup holding a flowering plant and a something that looks like a pygmy multicolored coleus. Lovely. GodDaughter sent a cheerful and loving greeting via Messenger. Youngest nephew sent a truly touching text “Happy Mothers Day Barbara. Like it or not, when you and Joe took (the boys) in you earned that title. You guys had more of a positive impact on us than you’ll ever know…” I cried, but didn’t share with Joe. He’s still bruised from that almost-twenty-years-ago experience and wants nothing to do with the nephews. I don’t press.
Whew, didn’t mean to go into all that, but guess I had to share with somebody and who better that with you wise compassionate women?

Tina - I’m sorry your concert was interrupted with rude people.
Ginny - when I am trying to decide what to keep and what not to, I leave a bag at the bottom of my closet. After a few months of passing something by I drop it in. It has made so many choices easy and I’ve never dug in to get something. That bad sits there usually about 6 months before I take it to the thrift store.
Michele - I’m sorry Denise treats you that way.
Pip - I love your hair.
Lisa - I am going tomorrow to the walk in clinic. My self assessment on the Harvard website, says frozen shoulder. I am praying that is not the issue.
Barbara- how beautiful for the nephew to send you a message. I don’t know how you could handle the bugs!
My daughter and I went to the Garden Centre today. She bought this beautiful basket for me. I bought some more to put in a pot. I hope I’m able to tomorrow.

Well it’s complete! We put the back fountain to the front entryway. I’m in love with it! I can change the color in the barrel, right now I have it blue

Off to the fracture clinic at the hospital this morning. DH would never have thought to offer to drive me, (hyper independence, projected onto others) but I just came straight out and asked him. It's an irritatingly slow bus journey, especially with the diversion at the moment, and I am happy to get the bus back. Just didn't want to get agitated about being late getting there. It's a stretch for him, but he's doing it with decent grace.
I hope they will put a fibreglass cast on and I will ask them about the timing for the cruise.
Cleaner this afternoon.
When I roasted the duck legs yesterday, I popped in some butternut squash, so I will use that for a squash, pea and feta frittata for dinner. Need to buy feta. I thought I had some, but no.
I will take a snack to the hospital, to tide me over. I don't do well if I'm hungry!
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Tracey-maybe some of the shoulder issue/pain is from stress? We can build it up in our bodies and it does things to us. Some mediation couldn't hurt. I hope to be moved out in the next 6 moths or so! However, it is pretty easy for me to figure out what I haven't worn for 6 months! Love the pansies in shades of purple.
Katla-your house will sell. Disappointing when you think you have something taken care of and it isn't-but it typically works out for the best.
Heather-GD and artwork both exceptional!
Barbara AHMOD-We can be surprised the difference we can make in lives.
Pip-fountain is a nice accent.
Got 3 boxes dropped off. I did stop and spend part of my Mother's Day gift card. I cleaned out some old pajamas. My favorite summer nightgown has a hole in it (time to go!). I also did not have decent summer weight pajamas. I usually sleep in night gowns, but in hotels I prefer pjs (I guess in case I have to vacant room in middle of night). I also got a light weight robe/house coat for next trip to Phoenix that is light weight yet the material isn't see through (for trips to shower). However, I got rid of old robe and four old night gowns and 5 (yes 5) old pjs (mainly winter weight), so I have still reduced.
Work today. This afternoon we are going out as group (exec team) for Great American Clean Up). We are going out for an hour around the neighborhood where our offices are. We may get an early dinner together.
Off to my morning routine.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio10 -

Lisa – how does Cory make his icing?
Michele NC
Michele - I have absolutely no idea. He's the cook, not me.
Heather - Love the picture for your brother. Really well done! And to do it with one arm incapacitated, even more respect. Your abilities on the art front grow with each painting, and all of it is inspirational.
Tracey - Glad you're going to the walk-in clinic, and hope it's not a frozen shoulder. Never had one, but it sounds like no fun at all. Love the picture of you and your daughter, and flowers are just gorgeous.
Allie - So glad you're feeling better. Take care of you, woman! The flowers are lovely, and I'm pleased your son was able to surprise with them.
Barbara AHMOD - Nope, nope, nope on the bug situation. Hope the exterminator can clear the problem.
Hope everyone had the Mother's Day they hoped for!
Later, y'all,
Love,

Soooo cute..4 -
I am loving all of the photos, artwork, stories of grandkids, trips planned, and life in general.
Rebecca- I love the photo booth pics!
Allie- Carmine and Seth look great together! I see Carmine is wearing a suit; as per their wish. I am glad Tracy let them make that decision. I am also happy that Tracy has calmed down. I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle had something to do with that. Sometimes our children's spouses/partners are able to see our "frailties" better than our own children. I think it is just that our children believe that we will just go on forever; never changing. *sigh If wishes were feathers I would build wings and fly.
Rori I am very excited for you and this trip. You are leaving today, I believe! Bon voyage, my friend!
Heather- Hope all went well with your doc/fracture. Your DH is a wonderful man. For all of his little things that get him upset; I think the fact that he gets bothered when you are hurt or in some way unable to function normally, is very telling. His concern manifests itself with his behavior. Love your beach shack painting! YOu did a great job!
Clothing- I have never had an extensive wardrobe. Even as a teen. I could fit my entire wardrobe (all seasons; shoes/boots included) into one suitcase. Not a carry-on mind you, but a standard suitcase. Like Barbie, I have whittled my clothes down to essentials and wear the same things every week. 3 pr yoga pants, 1 pr jeans, 2 pr capris, 2 skirts, 5 tops various sleeve lengths, 5 pullover hoodies, then underthings (tanks, camis, bras, undies, socks). 3 swimsuits (bc I am in them nearly every day in the summer). 4 pr of sneakers, 2 pr of slip ons, 1 pr of all purpose Wolverine boots. I currently have no sandals.
Mother's Day- I have always been kind of "meh" about Mother's Day. I am fine with a "happy mother's day" text from my kids. I am fine if they forget entirely. My kids know this. My DH always buys a gift and signs the kids names. Which I find particularly funny; as he always forgets to tell the kids this. So, my thank you text to the kids goes something like this, "In case you didn't know, your father just presented me with the gift "from you". I love it. Thank you. " lol This year, "they" got me a new crock pot. My old one broke last month. I have a spare in the basement, as well as a Instant Pot which can sub as a crock pot. BUT...I am grateful for the new one, as it is Crock Pot brand with a ceramic inset. My spare in the basement is GE and doesn't cook as well, and the instant pot is very small. But as many have said, as long as I know I am loved, I am good. Mother's Day or any day.
Gotta fly...well beyond time to get off my computer. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -
I chose purple!
Utter chaos at the hospital as they had my procedures in the wrong order. When a doctor said I was 'a bit confused' I let them have it in no uncertain terms! Anyway, it all got done in the end. Extremely lovely plasterer, who had just got back from a half-world cruise on Queen Mary II. Swopped cruise stories. Also super Welsh doctor
The good news is that the cast is coming off in three weeks! Hooray! Perfect timing.
My friend C, who I was meeting up in London on Wednesday, has emailed me to say she is miserable with a chest infection so could we postpone. Thankfully, yes, so I've rebooked for two weeks time. I'm glad as I have another meeting on Thursday and Bea tomorrow, so that will be better for me too. She has just got some antibiotics.
So, I am feeling so relieved that my cast will be gone by the cruise. I will have a velcro support, probably.
Love the pansies Tracey. The only problem with hanging baskets is the amount of watering required! But they look beautiful.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Good morning ladies!
I've been skimming along the past few days and every time I sat down to write something I was interrupted it seems. Will try to catch up. Hope all you moms had a nice Mother's Day. Friend Tiff and her husband stopped by yesterday with a beautiful hanging basket, I sent her home with tomato, squash, and lettuce starts. She'll be busy!
Barbie - we had hot (90) temps and a lot of scorching east wind yesterday too. Seems like I was out many times trying to find places to put tomatoes out of the wind so they didn't get damaged. I am used to the south and west wind and have good places to protect them. So 20 mph winds from the east are a challenge when it comes to still tender starts. They survived, thank goodness.
Hot again today but looks like the winds won't be so fierce. Chance of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon.
I'm stalling getting any veggies set out until toward the end of the week when it cools down a bit. And that includes onion sets.
Carol - sorry to hear about your son and his family getting Covid. I think it's still going around here but most folks just feel like they have a cold and stay home a couple days until they feel better. I don't know that there's any more forced quarantining - perhaps in some jobs.
Allie - so glad it worked out, Tracy has calmed down, and you are feeling better. Change is hard.
Rori - have a great time on your trip! Glad you are doing better. Can't wait to see some pix of your adventures!
Tracey - hope you don't have a frozen shoulder. Have you been icing and taking anti-inflammatories?
Barbara - sorry to hear about the bug invasion. I slapped a mosquito last night. This hot weather brings all kinds of nasty things to life it seems. Hope your exterminator can get them on the run for you.
Chickies are doing fine. I expanded their run but blocked off their access to a lupine, I had it hunch it might not be good for them to peck at it through the fence. I finally looked it up this morning - I was right. Poisonous. So I hacked it down and set pavers on top of the root ball, dirt too hard to pull it or dig it out. I have one growing on the other side of the greenhouse. I love them and love their scent, but can't risk it. I'll whack it down after it blooms and before it goes to seed. Luckily they are short-lived perennials.
And I've been fermenting chicken feed. It's a thing - maybe I mentioned it already. Some of their bagged feed is pretty powdery and prone to waste, so I read up on mixing it with water and letting it set for a couple days until it starts to smell like sour mash, lol. Takes a couple days and I stirred in a little bit of greek yogurt just to give it some zing. When I was a kid we had a lot of chickens and mom would pour buttermilk or sour milk over the chicken feed and the hens loved it.
I have buggered up my ankle. I think I strained it weed eating along the ditch, I was walking at an incline a lot, footing was iffy. And I wasn't wearing good shoes. The pain seems to be the tendon attached at the inside of the leg/ankle bone, not in the ankle joint itself. Feels kind of like a shin splint on the inside of the leg. So I'm taking it easy and wrapping/ icing/taking anti-inflammatories and it should be better in a couple days. Feels a lot better than it did yesterday. The good news is that weed eating job should keep the invading grass at bay for a while.
OK ladies I better get this posted for now.
Have a great week!

Today is DH’s Birthday. I sat with him while he had breakfast. He is back in his room & sleeping. I’ll peek in to see how he’s doing as the day moves along.

Pip - love the barrel fountain.
Heather - sometimes our independence comes back to bite us. I am the same, DH never thinks of offering to help because I do it myself.
My mom didn’t do anything without my Dad’s permission. I remember one time trying to hang a piece of art I had made for her. She said, “no we better wait and ask your Father”. I said, “Mom, I know how to hammer a nail”. She wouldn’t let me.
I also remember her asking for $2.00 once and him saying, “I just gave you $2.00 last week”.
I swore I would never be in that situation.
Love the purple cast and so happy for you that it comes off in 3 weeks.
I only have one hanging basket, but I have to water daily anyway, we are very dry here.
Ginny - I hadn’t thought of stress causing my shoulder pain. You may have a point though.
Lanette - sounds like a good day yesterday. We are having scorching temperatures too and no relief in sight for rain for these wildfires.
I do believe I have frozen shoulder. The Harvard website had exercises to do for it and I started doing them last evening. It doesn’t feel as bad today. I am going to go buy another ice pack today because it says to ice it 10-12 times per day.
Hope your ankle heals fast. I feel like I’m always in one type of pain or another. It’s very frustrating.
I love lupins. I wish they grew here.
Barbara - we don’t have termites here, I know nothing about them except what I learned on Berenstein Bears when my girls were little. Papa was always trying to fight the termites. Last night, I thought of Joe running around like Papa Bear.
Katla - happy birthday to your DH.
I have to go plant some more flowers I bought yesterday. No always think I don’t have enough then by mid July I’m complaining about the watering.

The Lilacs are in BLOOM! From my garden! A nice Mother's Day present. The vase is one my mom got when she was in Venice.
they are beautiful. Mom has one that I got to enjoy when I was up there last weekend. Her flowers aren't as full as yours, They are amazing. I am sure they smell even better.1
