I was cleaning with bleach today so I wore White all day 😄 When we opened up our camper today we noticed that the refrigerator had been shut by accident over the winter. Grosssss! It took a couple of hours and a lot of bleach but I killed all of the mold 😱

Regarding food prices ... groceries got up around $300/week for us. After a few weeks of that, I started ordering less and got it down to about $225/week.

wow- I can't imagine spending that much on food a week. I seriously dont' think we spend $300 a month on food for us. We shop around at the local Asian and Mexican markets and the sales at Safeway and the rest is from Grocery Outlet. We used to go to another grocery store ever couple weeks to check out their sales but trying to use up what is in the freezer first so haven't done a lot of shopping the past month, just for fresh stuff.
I did a casserole with some of the left over shrimp from taco night(Shrimp was $2.99 lb for two pound bags and got the limit of 4-we love shrimp-so versatile), added a container of ricotta that I got for 2/$1 and froze, seasoned with parm, garlic, lemon pepper. Layered a little canned Alfredo sauce ($1), some cooked shell pasta (.25), the shrimp/ricotta, another layer of pasta, topped with the rest of the sauce and a little mozzerella I got at food program the last time I helped. It is the vegan kind but the guys couldn't tell. I would have used lasagna noodles but didn't have any and had extra packs of pasta shells. Other times I have had the large shell noodles or manicotti noodles and stuffed them with it.
Enough food for 4 along with a salad $1.50
So about $4 for dinner for the four of us.
Prawns!
Expensive (and yucky)
I think $18/kg is $8.2/lb
$22/kg is $10/lb
If I can't order groceries online or walk to a shop, I won't get the groceries. I don't have the time to search several sites online for good deals or travel from store to store looking for something.
Also, remember ... I live on an island.Things are expensive here everywhere because of shipping.

Barbara the sand cherry I have is a purple leaf sand cherry and is said to be ornamental. The birds love the berries and I planted it mainly to be a cross pollinator for my plum. It’s about 15 years old now and doesn’t bloom as much so I think it is coming to the end of it’s lifespan.
Bought a Toka plum tree today and pleased with it. It’s a 5 year old tree and full of blossoms and leaves. DH helped me plant it beside my Pembina and it looks so good. It’s over 6 feet tall and the cost was $85.00 which I thought was quite reasonable. The fruit tree farm we went to had so many different fruit trees. Think I might get an apricot next year and maybe another pear tree. We bought the pear trees over 20 years ago. At that time they did not have many varieties to choose from for our area. The pears we have always fruit and they are beautiful when in bloom. Unfortunately the pears are not tasty at all and end up being something for the wildlife to enjoy.
While I was waiting at the cashier when purchasing my plum, I heard some squawking behind me and turned around….it was a rather large parrot in a big cage. The cashier said his name was Basil and he was waiting to be put outside for the first time of the season. The bird and I had a nice conversation. I asked him how he was and he replied “I’m fine, how are you”. So cute! Kept the conversation going for a bit with him saying basically the same thing. Quite entertaining. I can see why kids enjoy going there. I told him to watch out for a cat I saw prowling outside. He told me to have a nice day.

We've got ...
- one lemon, which has produced tiny green lemons so far. It's possible we might have a crop come spring, if they make it through the winter.
- 2 apple trees. Last year they produced great apples, but not so much this year.
- 2 pear trees, one of which produced mini pears. This was its first year of producing (2nd summer) and the other one is in its first summer, so next year we might some pears.
- one cherry tree which just came through its first summer, so it only produced a few half-hearted cherries.
- a whole bunch of raspberry bushes, which my husband has arranged along wires so we can get at them all now. They should finally produce something next year.
- a whole bunch of strawberries which are still producing even though winter is only 12 days away.
I love having fruit right there in the yard.

About white ...
What reminded me of it was that this week I saw a woman walk past wearing pure white pants and a tan jacket. She looked good - wore it well. It was the first time I had seen someone wearing white pants in a long time. And, unlike some I've seen in the past, she didn't appear to be wearing dark underwear or underwear with bright red hearts.
But what I was really impressed about was that she was walking along confidently and that there didn't appear to be a stain or smudge or indication that she had spilled coffee or makeup on those pristine white pants!! I didn't look very closely, of course, but if I had been wearing white pants, it would have been easy to tell that white and I definitely don't get along.

Kim - Oh my goodness, one week left... so glad you found a possible way out of the impossible. You're almost there, kiddo!
Machka - I also do not wear white. I have never worn any white clothing that did not end up stained before I arrived back home. My mother wore white a lot, and it suited her. I did not get that gene, apparently! Even light colored clothes are at risk, so I wear them at home, but am usually dressed in dark clothing when I leave the house.
Re trees:Corey has planted fruit trees in all of the dozen or so places we've lived, whether it was rental or we bought the property. We've never lived anywhere long enough before for him to eat a full-grown piece of fruit from them until now.
We've been here five years now, and it looks like this year, the pear trees might bear enough for him to be able to beat the birds and bugs to one or two of them. The peach is still pretty spindly. The cherry did it's best imitation of a stick and fell over in early spring, but he has great hopes for the apple trees.
This is, in many ways, why we're here, as opposed to living in the desert--he truly needs to work with plants and care for them. I love seeing his face after he and Egg (the cat) walk through the acreage around the house and then he comes and tells me what's blooming and what he wants to plant in the garden. It's truly his happy place. Pretty much in self defense, I've learned to plant flowers and care for them, which I've never done before, and to prune and clean up the trees we've kept from the jungle that was here when we arrived. Old dogs can learn new tricks...
What's funny is I realized that I've done things with both husbands that I wouldn't have done off my own bat. With my first husband, when I was considerably younger, I learned every sport known to man. I bowled, I played racquetball, softball, pool, and even golf so that I would actually see him on weekends. With my current husband, I'm learning how not to kill plants. Watching Heather lead Johnny into dancing and art and the care and maintenance of grandchildren is what made me think of it. We do change each other, don't we...
Am having a peaceful week overall... grocery delivery this morning is pretty much the excitement of the day. I need to accomplish one thing this morning outside, as the rain's coming in at noon. Might just run into town to get the bank account forms notarized to move into the trust. It's the second domino after the house, and then once the bank accounts are complete, lots more afterward.
Hope it's a lovely weekend for everyone...
Love y'all,

I love to see people in white that are stain/smudge free. I would love to be that person. But I am a walking disaster. Just call me Out Lady Of Perpetual Sloppiness. I would do well wearing a wild print in reds, browns, and golds. That would cover alot of mishaps. KJ4

I can go through life quite normally without spilling coffee or splashing food or having a pen incident, or encountering mud etc. if I wear a darker/bolder colour or a pattern. But put on white and 5 minutes later I look like Pigpen from Peanuts!
If I wear light colours, I'll usually bring a lightweight cardigan or something ... just in case. If worse comes to worse, I can put the cardigan over top.
My mother wore and still wears white too without mishaps. I don't know how she does it. She used to try to dress me in white but soon gave that up.

It's Friday night, the end of a long, busy weird week.
It was one of my 5-day weeks (long week), and my new job is busy - lots to do! That's not a bad thing.
Then Tuesday, I was not feeling brilliant and by late afternoon, the migraine set in and I had a horrible evening. The whole day Wednesday, I felt like my head didn't belong to me - that migraine hangover thing. I was confused what day it was and kept thinking it was Tuesday. I felt like I lost a day somewhere.
Wednesday night we had our beekeeping Zoom which was interesting ... just wish my head was a bit more into it.
Thursday evening, we were out for a couple hours which is something we rarely do: to see a headache specialist (co-incidence that I developed a migraine this week!), to have dinner, and to visit Bunnings (hardware). It's dark so early now and even though we got home about 8:30 pm, it felt like it was about 10:30 pm. I changed into my pjs as soon as I got home.
Today, I took it a bit easier at work and caught up on a few things, including making some headway on the course I'm taking.
Relaxing now and watching the Giro d'Italia.
It's also been the coldest week we've had in months ... getting closer to winter.

Tracey, the greenhouse is Prairie Gardens which is out by Bon Accord. They have a website you can check out. When I was there, I overheard a lady asking about their petting zoo which I'm sure would be of interest to your granddaughter.

Having fruit in the yard that you can pick is wonderful. I have 3 pears (not tasty but beautiful trees), 4 apples, 2 plums, 3 different sour cherry trees, black current trees and a row of native crab trees (planted for deer to enjoy during the winter) plus a couple of crab trees planted in the front yard for the birds. Birds feed on the frozen crabs during the winter and we also hang a couple of feeders in the crab tree for winter. Flocks of bohemian waxwings come during the winter along with red polls. So nice to watch them feed.
I have planted my orchard just off the pathway to our house. Anyone coming to the yard has to walk past the orchard to get to the house. Get lots of comments from people who walk by this area in later spring when everything is blooming and smells so nice. They also like to see the fruit hanging from the branches. I did have a very large strawberry patch and a few raspberries but found it was getting too hard to maintain as I got older so sadly had to let that go. The fruit trees are more manageable and I like that they seem to attract birds and bees.
Enjoy your day everyone.

Joy - thank you. That’s about an hour from me so wouldn’t be too bad for a drive.
