LESS Alcohol ~ JUNE 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

I had planned drinks last night.
I planned them as soon as I found out that the air conditioner at work broke Saturday morning as I arrived to work an 8+ hour day with the beautiful Florida temp outside at 92°
It had better be fixed soon or I will be working in my bathing suit( just kidding).
Going to be AF for sure today/ tonight. Maybe have some nice ice coffees on my day off. 🔥🌝
Headed to do my ab workouts, finally had my exercise ball inflated to the right poundage.
Enjoy your day L.A. group.7 -
Yesterday, I worked out back for several hours re-potting some of last last seasons annuals and petunia flowers and herbs that I purchased. I finally transferred the fruiting, established blueberry bush I bought in April into its permanent place in the yard.
Last night I decided to have Kendall Jackson white wine with stir fry dinner and a small Prosecco during a movie with DH. So that is two plus one. I have several morning commitments this upcoming week so planning on AF until next Friday.
@forestdweller1 the omNom chocolate tasting sounds fun and delicious. Seems like flight delays are unavoidable these days, and happen when we really want to get back home!
@dawnbgethealthy your photos are appreciated! And, you reminded me that I loved blended coffee and need to make it this summer.
@Chickadee00 I hear you about wanting to reduce your intake - this thread is all about that. We are all on our individual paths toward LA.
@itladyee same for me, the idea of one 5 oz. glass doesn’t really satisfy so I’d rather plan on two on those A days and have some success.

🤣 Thanks for the "hugs" on the airline non-flight fiasco. Nobody here was upset...family motto, "If you can't fix it, laugh it off". Besides...we all have cats....The promised 7 am Sunday flight never happened either. Plane was too small. Wha??? Lift off was finally at 11 am. Much relieved SIL collected ED for the 2 1/2 hour drive back to Louisiana.
Too early in the day for the Chianti I promised myself for when ED finally landed at home. Thinking of a non-food or non-booze celebration instead. Not too late in the month to start being accountable. Last month's random tiramisu, cannoli, and "Mama ya gotta make a lasagna" has made me fear the bathroom scale. Should put it in front of the fridge instead. Or down cellar in front of the wine rack.5 -
Hi All... I have really been hit or mostly miss on here, but I do try to keep up with your posts. Even though I don't participate, your posts are very motivating, and I can relate to soooo many! I started keeping track of my A vs AF days last week, and am motivated by better sleep, energy, and weight loss! It is amazing how only just a day or two of AF or even just LA, can feel so good!
So for accountability for June:
A = 2
AF = 1
Planning to stay AF today.7 -
Happy June everyone! I'm going AF tonight!8
-
Thanks for the advice @MissMay
I think maybe that's where I'm going wrong right now. I am setting goals, but are they realistic or obtainable? I dunno. Probably not.
I've got good intentions, but I'm not very good at being realistic! Lol. That's for sure. I will go away and think about it and try to set myself some small goals alcohol wise.5 -
Yes, the coffee ice cubes when blended froth up pretty good. That is an antique glass with bubbles in the glass.
@ahoy_m8
Those glasses are really hard to find! I call them Daquiri glasses : - ) A margarita glass is just not the same. I had broken my last one 5 years ago and searched and searched, finally finding myself 4 of them at a thrift store last year. I don't think that they are available to buy new.
Coupe glasses...I thought that those were like champagne saucers. Getting an education here : - )
Glasses are everything!
So the pink colour of the cocktail - cherry whiskey or cherry brandy, just a bit of it.3 -
Thanks for keeping us going @MissMay : - )

My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 18AF days in May.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Sunday June 04 - AF - Job interview in the morning. I really felt like having drinks though, I went so hard in the yard and began the area outside of my fence which technically doesn't belong to me, but I have been planting it for many years. I have Hollyhocks and sunflowers along there, but it was (still mostly is) completely full of giant weeds. Very very hot here.
I push the sunflower heads back into the soil at the end of the season. Taking out the weeds so as not to disturb them is a hands and knees job. I will aim to do a bit each day.

Planning to stay AF today.3 -
@dawnbgethealthy oh I do love sunflowers and hollyhocks! Best to you for your job interview.
@Chickadee00 some say that very small, yet achievable goals are a good approach.
Took a long morning walk yesterday before it heated up to 86 degrees. Had a weird food day because I had not planned too well. Ate 300 calories of organic dark chocolate almonds following my eggs and plant protein shake post walk, and then later had 300 calories of Terra sea salt vegetable chips after my taco salad at dinner. Then…..baked a no sugar banana almond bread and ate a piece at 9:30 p.m.! I guess the win is that I ate food instead of drinking those calories!
I do better when I plan my balanced meals throughout the day to stay better satiated.
Oh, it feels like the lazy days of summer are coming…..
Planning for AF until Friday night.

@chickadee00 ~ You said it best - One day at a time. Not that I've been terribly successful, but try to incorporate something that you know you can accomplish and then go from there. I'm considering it success when I limit to 2 glasses of wine. I'm about 50/50. Once I can consistently do that...they I will reduce to maybe set days at being AF. Reward the little victories and like @missmay said, it's not a race!
The Month recap to stay accountable
6/1 A ~ Husband was excited as he had been off pain meds long enough to have a cocktails. He made pomegranate sours. Tasted really strong and really sweet to me since I had not had one in quite a while.
I've got to get it through my thick head....alcohol ruins weight loss....maybe I need to get out my paper and write it 500 times...

Oof. May was as rough as I anticipated and did not stick to my goals at all. Kind of hard to keep myself motivated when I'm constantly restarting but as the alternative is giving up...I just need to find what fits.
Kept the bad habits going through the first weekend in June but very ready to recommit to my goals.

I thought about having a glass of wine Sunday, and guess what? No wine in the house. It should come as a surprise to no one that not buying wine means I’m not drinking. Last night after work I really really wanted a glass (didn’t get home until 8:45) but again, no wine. Both nights I was very satisfied with my club soda/Sangria Mix. In a wine glass. the glass matters!
Meanwhile my lower back is in spasm, probably because of awkwardly handing heavy things to my husband into the boat. I was fine Friday after we sailed, but Saturday I crouched down to pick something up and BAM! I keep re- tweaking it when I move in a chair or do not much of anything. So, no tennis for me and I’m gingerly walking around. This stinks! I’m missing tennis this week! God forbid, right? Haha! I’ll be fine as long as I don’t push myself. But still I hate being sidelined! Grrr. I suspect tonight will be AF because I’m not buying wine when I’m out and about today!5 -

Monday June 05 - AF - Scheduled to work 12 days straight starting Monday at the Indian restaurant to cover some vacay days. Tonight, Tuesday, is my pedicure so I may have drinks/prosecco. I definitely won't be having my usual drinks on the weekend this coming one because I am working split shifts Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday are my window if I feel like having drinks this week.

I had a great vacation week, drinking 2 beers each night. Most were pints, but I notice that they don’t pour full ones. Also, I selected pilsners and lagers, which have ABV <~5%. I was very active, doing lots of runs, bikes, and some swims. And even surfing— I have the bruises to prove it!
Anyway, this is always how I am on vacation, and I gained about 4lbs due to it. Most of it will come back off quickly, but at least 1-2lbs will take some effort.
Life goal is to go on vacation and not gain weight!4 -

Hi all, I'd love to join in! I'm recently back to MPF and am trying to focus on not only losing some weight, but also health goals. Alcohol is a huge pain point for me, and I simply don't moderate well, especially with wine.
My goal for now is to be AF until next week when my husband returns from his Army duty. We've already planned on having some beers when he returns. He doesn't moderate either, and we enable each other terribly with it. (Thankfully, we also enable healthy habits.)
It's nice to "talk" with others who have similar struggles...9 -
3 AF days in a row! Woot!5

Checking in - no A until the weekend. I am not really thinking about it and find that it helps to have early morning commitments every day.
@Womona no wine in the house means no wine days here too. Hope your back issue heals quickly, that’s no fun.
Currently, I usually buy two small (half) bottles a week. Based on this alone, I am doing way LA each week and feel amazing. I’m reaping wonderful benefits with this new habit. Thanks for listening!

Went out to dinner with DS1, tried a delicious new restaurant, and got to spend good time with him before he goes to to Officer Candidate school for 8 weeks. Then he moves into his own apartment right afterwards! I had a very small Prosecco drink (4 oz) and a few sips of Sambuca when I got home. Hey at least there is still no wine in the house, so I’m good for tonight!4

After my one night of binge drinking at the conference a couple weeks ago, life seems properly back to its "new normal" now.
After ten weeks of counting every calorie, I'm now not doing it. I'm going to try using what I've learned and seeing if I can combine that with the necessary discipline to achieve close enough to the desired calorie deficit. I've lost a total of twenty-three pounds over the last ten weeks, so averaging almost two-and-a-half pounds a week. I'm OK dropping down to a target of losing one pound a week looking ahead.
I've got about three weeks left until vacation and I'd like to get another two pounds off, for a total of twenty-five pounds eliminated since starting this journey.
On the body fat goal, I'm really wanting to get down below 20%. Last night, the scale said 20.2%. I'm almost there.
My weights for lifting are going up a bit. The other day, my wife took a video of me leg pressing on the machine. Genetically, my legs are the easiest for me to progress on. Anyhow, I pushed up "the stack"--400 lbs.--ten times. I'm surprised I can still do something like this at the age of fifty five. Anyhow, I was grinning ear-to-ear on the video. I suspect the last time I did this was almost ten years ago.
On cardio intervals, my speed is increasing some. Last night on the high speed of the final interval, I hit nine MPH (6:40 pace) on the treadmill and a heart rate of 162 BPM which is a few beats from the my max.
Needless to say, I ache often and much from the workouts I'm doing.
My long-term plan continues to be to have lost twenty-five pounds from March to July and then the pursue the final ten pounds to lose from July to October to be ready for next year's ski season.
My wife is the best partner in doing all this. Over the last two years, she's lost 120 pounds after a gastric sleeve surgery. She's working out with me every day and getting quite toned herself. I think she'd like to get off a final five to ten pounds over the next number of months too. Her huge concern, even fear, is that she relapse and regain what she's worked so hard to lose. My doing all this, especially now, is a way that I can support her in her even bigger journey than my own.
She's my high school sweetheart. We had spent almost thirty years apart before reconnecting now about seven years ago. This vacation trip in a few weeks will be our fourth wedding anniversary. I'm so glad she was heavier when we reconnected and when we married too. I love her so much and for who she is. She is incredible.7 -
💞 @GaryM_25 thanks for the sweet love story. Best wishes to both of you!3

Quick post before a full day ahead. I have lost almost 10 lbs and many inches since Halloween ‘22 while building muscle strength. I now weigh what I did about about 35 years ago. I’ll keep on plugging away to get to ultimate maintenance with another 5 lbs. loss - might take me a year but that’s okay!
And drinks played a big part in being overweight too. Today I found I can enjoy cooking everything under the sun, mostly clean and within my calorie range (another reason LA is critical to my long term success).
Have a great day all who follow!
AF until weekend…..

6/6 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Came home, immediately poured my ICE/juice! I noticed that this signals my husband to not offer me a drink, cuz for some reason, I can't say no to an offer....
It was actually a good day all around. I get on the treadmill every morning (M-F) for 30 to 45 minutes. Monday and yesterday, I went out side for lunch for an extra 30 minute walk. I was under my calorie budget and stopped eating by 8pm. Consumed 80+ ounces of water but downside, was up a lot for bathroom breaks.
