LESS Alcohol ~ JUNE 2023 ~ One Day at A Time
Replies

I'm back!!! Happy to report I had a successful work trip - I did keep to 2 drinks being the maximum rule. Zero hangovers and up early daily!!
Diet and exercise, that is another story. Will work on that one this week. For now, I am just happy I could moderate without any thought or any effort while being away. I was super-busy and very exhausted at the end of each day, so guess that kept me out of trouble.7 -
Well folk guess who sees the light at the end of the tunnel????
I am almost back LOL. It has been a whirlwind of stress, emotionally draining and physical exhaustion. However it looks like it will all be coming together.
So much to tell and so much to read and catch up on here!
Was I AF, not in the least. But these past 6-8 weeks it was not my 'go to' it was more of a treat per say. I did use it for a bit of a crutch while traveling/driving across country ....twice to help sleep. I know that really does not make sense since alcohol does not keep you asleep but I have always found it impossible to sleep in hotels for me.
We (fingers crossed) will be moving into our new home at the end of the week/weekend at which time my stress level and routines will start to get back in place. The first routine I will implement? AF M-F or maybe even S-F with just a sip or two on a Saturday. Not sure how that is going to look.I wi
I am still planning on buying that treadmill and get back to my weight lifting in the next few weeks and that will really help.
I am also going to work on catching up on all your news on this thread. It was on the near impossible side these past weeks.
Wishing you all a wonderful week.7 -
My planned one glass of wine turned into 2.5 because I wanted to “reward” myself by cleaning the house. Happy that I pushed through and got it done (I can’t think in a dirty house) but silly reason to drink. Weight is way up today, unsurprisingly. On a good note, DS2 is home from his trip! Great to see him.
My challenge this week is to not have wine after long, busy day at work. It’s in the house. Give me strength to unwind with a NA drink!!!5 -
Another Monday, lol.
Last night I myself(not influenced by my husband) decided to recreate my evening from Saturday night.
It was lovely and I measured with a shot glass the amount to pour into my glass AND sipped not inhaled the one drink.
Now today I know and plan AF because consecutive drink days are not really part of my LESS ALCOHOL goals.
So what is so exciting on my back porch I need to sit and drink?
1) I do not need to drive home after that drink
2) Enjoying the fruits of my labors in my gardens out there.
3) No drunk'n bar drama
4)No pressure to keep drinking( because my husband spent a lot of $$ on the bottle of bourbon I am having 😆 and I want it to last more than a week)

I had a couple Sangrias last night. Some of the family was over and I made some carne asada and fish tacos.
Yesterday though, I ran. After weeks and weeks of walk/run and especially intervals, yesterday was the first day to simply run a good run without any walking interwoven in.
Tonight for the game, we'll have some family members over again and I'll smoke some ribs.6 -
hey all jsut stumbled on this group, currently 42 pounds down, and been sober for 357 days,15

My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 18AF days in May.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Saturday June 10 - 2 drinks - Classic, hungry and very tired. Worked a split on my usual day off and basically didn't even try to use willpower. It was so nice to finally get home and have a couple.
Sunday June 11 - AF - Swapped my original plan of drinks for Sunday after 2 split shifts in a row to being AF. No exact AF plans for this week as yet. Yay to my 6, now on to my 10 and then my 16.

I had drinks all weekend and actually looking forward to an AF day today. Friday, I had to try the low carb sangria. It wasn't bad and a nice substitute for the volume. I'm going to count this as a success day though (1 wine, 1oz vodka). Had wine on Saturday and Prosecco on Sunday.

6/1 A ~ Husband was excited as he had been off pain meds long enough to have a cocktails. He made pomegranate sours. Tasted really strong and really sweet to me since I had not had one in quite a while.
I've got to get it through my thick head....alcohol ruins weight loss....maybe I need to get out my paper and write it 500 times...
6/2 A ~ I got nothing!
6/3 A ~
6/4 A ~ Moody today. Wine all weekend while watching Netflix shows. Bored too... can't wait for vacation! I've really got to focus on getting that "substitute" drink in my hand as soon as I get in the door.
6/5 A ~ He made pomegranate sours again .
6/6 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Came home, immediately poured by ICE/juice! I noticed that this signals my husband to not offer me a drink, cuz for some reason, I can't say no to an offer....
It was actually a good day all around. I get on the treadmill every morning (M-F) for 30 to 45 minutes. Monday and yesterday, I went out side for lunch for an extra 30 minute walk. I was under my calorie budget and stopped eating by 8pm. Consumed 80+ ounces of water but downside, was up a lot for bathroom breaks.
6/7 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Another good day. Treadmill + my outside walk. Low calorie day and was still in range, even though I had some Ruffles potato chips (another weakness). Consumed 64oz of water which resulted in less bathroom trips. Scale was favorable!
It's so weird. There are days when I think I just can't be AF, then when I accomplish the task, it's really not so bad🙂
Kinda like exercise! :wow:
6/8 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Treadmill + my outside walk. Almost didn't get the extra walk in as I had a project given to me when I normally would head out but I got it in. Low calorie day, still in range, wth 15 calories to spare! Water above goal!
I plan to have a drink(s) this weekend (Friday or Saturday) but I'm excited about it as it's something different that might just "work". Funny, I was looking at my saved recipes in MFP and I ran across a "Low Carb Sangria". I do not recall making this before but it's 160 calories for 17 ounces (so 3+ 5oz glasses of "wine").

4 oz of diet 7up or sprite

Super busy and not really logging but this month has been good. More AF than A, mainly because I am on a regimen of daily Aleve for a thumb injury - not supposed to drink with Aleve so it's a win-win.6

So happy life is starting to resemble some sort of normalcy.
As we move closer to "unloading the UHaul" day (Friday) I can already see the "bumps" in the road between DH and myself as to decor in our new home. Granted we are moving in with just our bed, dresser, chest of drawers and 2 night stands.....2 very small rolling computer tables, 2 folding camp chairs and metal shelving that will need to be assembled.
All my kitchen, art and soap/makeup/lotion/serum supplies came with me so I need a room for my hobbies. DH has a shop that has more sq footage than the house to put his toys in.
Now the problem will be agreeing on furniture. DH spent all his adult life as his only source of income refinishing fine furniture and antiques......so he is really really picky and I can tell you we will clash as to what I like and his tastes. We are already clashing on the area rug in the living area he wants a handmade rug $$$$$ my budget is $$....like wanting a Porsche and can only afford a KIA kidding. but you get the picture.
So stress is a factor these days. However I have been AF more than A this month by...1 day. I will take it.
Happy Tuesday then7 -
@GrumpyDumpty Super impressive results! Welcome!
The Wegovy is keeping the wine down to the smallest amount. I pour a glass, take a couple sips and give the rest to my husband. It's a miracle. Plus I have lost 17 lbs.
I will stay on it a couple more months though I seem to have plateaued weight wise. I wanted to lose more but this is A-OK.6 -
Another pound knocked off!
Down 24 lbs. One more to go over the next couple weeks till vacation!7 -

Greetings, all.
Nice reading all the updates. I had 2 glasses wine Fri & Sat. Sun I planned one cocktail but DH opened a bottle after dinner so it ended up 3 drinks Sunday. I really shouldn't blame him because I was a willing participant and if I had said no, he probably would have abstained. Or had beer or something different that I don't drink.
AF so far this week and plan to be so until Friday. Invited neighbors for drinks and if we settle on a weeknight I will have a drink of whatever I make/open for them. But that's up in the air. Father's Day festivities planned but nothing crazy this weekend.
Hope everyone is staying cool and smoke free!4 -

Good start to the new week. Two consecutive days AF. I take the little wins with great enthusiasm during this journey.
Congrats to all of you that are experiencing weight loss. @SunnyDays930 you are having incredible success. You must feel like a super star⭐⭐⭐
It is crazy beautiful here in Florida and the tourists are abundant. The other evening we were at a place on the water and the nightly pontoon boat tour trip pulled in with guests.
Watching them attempt to walk down the dock to their cars after being on the boat drinking, in the hot sun for 4 hours is scarey. Knowing they are going to be driving out of the parking lot.
Made me glad I was sipping a 00.

Wednesday June 14 - 2 drinks - Broke my own rule of only drinking when happy. I was so down about the extreme weather changes. We dropped 20 degrees in one day. I fear for my peppers and tomatoes. It was drizzling when I got off of work and so cold. I didn't even try to abstain. I must stay AF tonight, Thursday.

6/14 AF ~ Yipee! 💚 It was a close one! I love how this accountability makes you really learn about yourself. I'd say that 75% of the time that I drink wine, it's because I enjoy drinking wine. The other 25% is to escape. I'm sure I knew this but it really hits home when you are trying to be AF and you see/hear the little triggers that make you want to have a nice pour!
I am generally optimist and positive about most things. My husband, not so much. My glass is half full, his glass is not only empty but it's broken.
I'll spare the details but here's the bullets:- I didn't remind him of my nail appointment (which has occurred every two weeks on Wed since the beginning of time).
- The display on his car must be going out because it was so dim he couldn't see it. We check it out, no problem found.
- His daughter wants to take him to lunch/dinner on Sun for father's day but he's sure there will be lines... Ah..they have this great thing these days...it's called make a reservation.
There was something else...and my inner soul was desiring 10 oz of wine. I even logged it to see if it fit within my calorie range. It did.... but I didn't!
The scale was even favorable this morning

I struggled a bit last night on my way home... seriously thought about picking up a bottle from the store... but my little shoulder angel spoke some sense into me. She told me that if I did that, I would have more than the standard pour(s), and it would most likely continue for the next few days until the bottle we empty... She also told me that if I chose not to buy & drink, I could have whatever I wanted for dessert!!!
I didn't buy the bottle, and I had a nice dessert... sliced strawberries with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and topped with Cool Whip... it was delicious and only about 100 cal. Big win for me!9 -
New here, so please forgive any inadvertent mistakes or miscues, etc.
I think that alcohol is the single biggest impediment to my weight loss journey. I'll be doing great all day -- good food choices, take a walk, drink my water and then 8 p.m. rolls around. I kick back on the sofa with the dear one, turn on the television... He cracks open a beer, I pour a big glass of white wine and ... then we have some popcorn ... another round ... maybe some pistachios this time ...
You get the picture. After over 30 years, we've got quite the routine cemented here.
The dear one is going to be out of town for over a week starting Saturday. I think this is my window. The perfect opportunity to break some of these connections.11 -
@strongwendysue14 ...As the sun slowly disappears below the horizon , so do one's good intentions.
Lucky you, to have a week or more to prep for a new routine. Keep your usual wine glass...just fill it with ICE, or a diet beverage of your choice...ginger ale, 7-up, a juice + seltzer combo...the lure of the popcorn & nuts will be less strong without the influence of the alcohol, you will just not gobble them in the same quantities.
After 30+ years y'all wil not likely be able to change your TV location or evening routine, but it WOULD be helpful to do so. Any thing to break the habit...pop the corn...DH sets up the TV...settle your butt into the couch cushions ...snuggle together...sip your beverages...dip into the snacks...but only on weekends or weekdays ???
LA + less nibbles = a skinnier & healthier you .
Best of luck to you on your journey. You sound like you know what to do...just the "wine devil" on your shoulder drowns out the lil' angel on the other side. 👿

Returning from a wonderful 15 day vacation! Started out in Portsmouth UK for a little running around at the historic boatyard before catching our cruise ship out of Southampton. Killer 24+ hour travel on 3 planes to get from Tromso Norway back home to Houston TX. Back to counting drinks again.

June accountability: 2 days AF
Alcohol: 13 days (? drinks)
Days over 2 glasses: 11 on vacation
Goal: 10 AF days this month
Vacation! Goal: Enjoy alcohol responsibility and not have a hangover! Try some mocktails . Plus drink more water between drinks throughout the day!

@strongwendysue14 Welcome and great insights on your pattern. Ditto to everything @forestdweller1 said. We can change our habits! It takes time and effort, but it is possible! Small incremental changes have more staying power than complete makeovers. Enjoy your solitude!
@Lilylady3k The cruise looks cool! Nothing welcomes a Texan home like a heatwave. Hope it's not triple-digit down by you.
@itladyee Hugs to you for the support you give DH. I identify with him, actually. I am one of the lucky ones that doesn't typically suffer anxiety or depression, but I've been down the past couple days. Over what? Nothing that I can tell, really. Because or in spite of that, I have wanted to reach for a glass of wine all week but inspired by @Dawnbgethealthy, I aspire to drink only on happy occasions not when feeling sad or oppressed (although I clearly still have that self anesthetizing reflex). Hope your spirits lift soon and your tender plants thrive, Dawn.
AF so far this week. Neighbors coming for drinks tonight. I already feel the IDGAF coming on. I think it's willpower fatigue from resisting temptation all week. I have all day to get my head around this.10
