LESS Alcohol ~ JUNE 2023 ~ One Day at A Time

I am Dawn, I live in South Eastern British Columbia.
I joined this thread in November of 2018, a daily drinker at the time
My primary goal with drinking less is weight loss.
My usual goal is 16-20 AF days for the month,
I had 18AF days in May.
I do this diary style, I normally post the next morning.
Monday June 26 - AF - I just keep cleaning and cleaning before my home appraisal. I have to just stop now and say that is enough. Foregoing getting the toothbrushes out for the baseboards lol, I have run out of time. Planned drinks for tonight after work and the appraisal. Planned AF Wednesday and Thursday. Right down to the wire for my 16 this month, but I will get there.
Tuesday June 27 - Drinks, as planned. Now to re-clutter my house up so that I can find stuff : - ) Taking the day off to regroup before that no longer is an option once I soon start another new job.
Wednesday June 28 - AF - Really great day, but sort of teasing myself since I know that I can't retire for years. I went up early to a trail that I always get lost on, since I knew that I didn't have to get to work. I would never go to that one if I had somewhere that I had to be. Pretty hot out by the time that I thought that I saw power lines, so I made a beeline in that direction since they lead back down. I followed them until I was sure that I was going in the right direction, and then found a forested path beside them to get out of the sun. Planned AF (and my 16) tonight.

@tmbg1 Yes, Adrienne for about 4+ years now, and Kassandra now and then. I have found them to be top of the line instructors! I still love at home work outs but wanted to change it up a bit to his summer.
@globalhiker sometimes it is important to take a step back when we realize toxic people or situations are not helping us live our best life. I like that you know what you need to do to take care of yourself to find the happiness in life you desire.

Welcome @annjuodakis6276. Ha! I like what @MissMay said about the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other. It feels so true. We're all here trying to take small steps in a positive direction, and that means different things to each of us.
Thanks for all the pics of fun outings and green thumbs. Makes the thread fun to read. @GaryM_25 Your wife is a rock star! To all who are going through a rough patch (and participants we haven't heard from in a bit), may the Force be with you all. All the voices count.
AF so far this week and planning to be AF tonight. Flying out tomorrow (fingers crossed on the airline mess) to spend the long holiday weekend with my cousin's fam. The highs are 20F cooler and the lows are 30F cooler where they live. My brother+wife will be rolling in Saturday so we will get some fun family hikes in the mountains. Both families have sons struggling right now - one just started HS and the other just finished college. It's hard to put words to the heartache when a kid is in crisis. My brother and I have a pattern of excessive celebrating when were together, but the mood is likely to be more somber this weekend. I aspire to listen to the angel on my shoulder and to block that devil.

Welcome @annjuodakis6276 I found this group in February ‘22 and have learned so much about alcohol and living with LA works so much better for my life goals. Of course some days are harder than others.
@dawnbgethealthy your hiking day sounds so fun and please do not get lost ! All the best with your appraisal too.4 -

Thursday June 29 - AF - I worked a very long split shift, extremely busy in the restaurant. I really really felt like having drinks when I finally got home. I was out early in the morning weeding before work and didn't end up having dinner until almost midnight. I went hard all day. Thanks to this thread and my goal of 16-20 I abstained. Short shift Friday and then 2 full days off, likely the last ones for a very long time. I will be getting my garden back to snuff and sticking close to home mostly. Saturday is Canada Day, so there will be celebrations everywhere including the park that is a block from my house. No plans for AF over the weekend.
Rolling total: 16AF day out of 29 days.4 -
Went to a Zumba class yesterday and had fun dancing to the beats. Then, ran around to pick up some fresh and healthy foods before the stores get too busy for the upcoming holiday weekend. Not too worried about A over the weekend ahead as my son and wife are hosting a family BBQ on Sunday and they are doing LA on their own. Will focus on family, being together and yes, it is going to be super hot anyway.
@ahoy_m8 congrats on your AF days. Kids of all ages grab at my heartstrings, and hoping better days are ahead for the two young men in your family. Enjoy your family time in the mountains.
Had 2 1/2 glasses of measured wine last night. Didn’t ever try willpower after receiving some very upsetting news earlier in the day, but I won’t say I had any excuse. Looking ahead to stating new goals for July.
Today AF to wrap up the last day of June.
Almost made June AF days (-1 under goal).
Hope to see everyone on the July thread!

Goals for JuneSelf-care and positive vibes ~ One day at a time
Zig-zag calorie count - Daily Average 1400
Success = No more than two glasses of wine per night. Bonus Points for ZERO!
Catching up...
Current Streak - AF = 0~
6/24 A ~ My husband's brother and sister came to visit. I had errands to run but did get back in time to cook and have a drink with them.
6/25 A ~ Got up and we decided to to to the White Sox baseball game. Had a great time, it was hot but I loved it. Then on our way home....Traveling on the 290 expressway, average speed about 80 mph, my car decided to slow down and eventually stop! It would not accelerate so we couldn't even pull to the shoulder. It was terrifying as I knew we were doomed. But, by the grace of God, my husband turned the car off and back on again and it started to move! We were so fortunate that people were paying attention and no MACK truck was in route. Car is at the dealer but so far they say they can't find anything!!😠
Sunday night, I was just in shock...then it became very real at about 2am that night as I was having panic attacks. I got up an managed to calm down and made it to work.
6/26 ~ 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 ok, maybe not that many... Still waiting on the findings but I'm already car shopping. Will never feel safe in that car again!
6/27 ~ 🍷 Picked up my car after the dealership reviewed it for over 24 hours....no issue found! I drove out of their dealership and two blocks down into another dealership and 4 hours later, I had a new car! Big IF...but IF they found something and fixed it....I might have been able to live with it... but probably not. It's a shame as I really did like that car.
6/28 ~ 🍷🍷🍷Had a pissy fight with my husband. He wants to retire any day now but feels I should retire at full retirement which is 67 for me. He's 65 and I'm 62.5. I probably said a few mean things...
6/29 ~ Trying to get back on track. This is the week before my vacation and everything just went to hell. Tomorrow I will start packing and hopefully can start July in a better state of mind...
6/30 AF ~ Yipee! 💚 Today will be AF as it's my long fast day (20 hours). I've completed successfully the last two times so I should be good tonight! That's a good way to end June! All in all, I still did better than March, April and May!!!
Hope everyone is well and ready for July!!!

The Month recap to stay accountable
6/1 A ~ Husband was excited as he had been off pain meds long enough to have a cocktails. He made pomegranate sours. Tasted really strong and really sweet to me since I had not had one in quite a while.
I've got to get it through my thick head....alcohol ruins weight loss....maybe I need to get out my paper and write it 500 times...
6/2 A ~ I got nothing!
6/3 A ~
6/4 A ~ Moody today. Wine all weekend while watching Netflix shows. Bored too... can't wait for vacation! I've really got to focus on getting that "substitute" drink in my hand as soon as I get in the door.
6/5 A ~ He made pomegranate sours again .
6/6 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Came home, immediately poured by ICE/juice! I noticed that this signals my husband to not offer me a drink, cuz for some reason, I can't say no to an offer....
It was actually a good day all around. I get on the treadmill every morning (M-F) for 30 to 45 minutes. Monday and yesterday, I went out side for lunch for an extra 30 minute walk. I was under my calorie budget and stopped eating by 8pm. Consumed 80+ ounces of water but downside, was up a lot for bathroom breaks.
6/7 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Another good day. Treadmill + my outside walk. Low calorie day and was still in range, even though I had some Ruffles potato chips (another weakness). Consumed 64oz of water which resulted in less bathroom trips. Scale was favorable!
It's so weird. There are days when I think I just can't be AF, then when I accomplish the task, it's really not so bad🙂
Kinda like exercise! :wow:
6/8 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
Treadmill + my outside walk. Almost didn't get the extra walk in as I had a project given to me when I normally would head out but I got it in. Low calorie day, still in range, with 15 calories to spare! Water above goal!
I plan to have a drink(s) this weekend (Friday or Saturday) but I'm excited about it as it's something different that might just "work". Funny, I was looking at my saved recipes in MFP and I ran across a "Low Carb Sangria". I do not recall making this before but it's 160 calories for 17 ounces (so 3+ 5oz glasses of "wine").
4 oz cabernet (or red of choice)
1 oz vodka
4 oz of diet 7up or sprite
8 oz of peach flavored water (0 calorie)
6/9 A
6/10 A
6/11 A
I had drinks all weekend and actually looking forward to an AF day today. Friday, I had to try the low carb sangria. It wasn't bad and a nice substitute for the volume. I'm going to count this as a success day though (1 wine, 1oz vodka). Had wine on Saturday and Prosecco on Sunday.
6/12 A
6/13 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
6/14 AF ~ Yipee! 💚 It was a close one! I love how this accountability makes you really learn about yourself. I'd say that 75% of the time that I drink wine, it's because I enjoy drinking wine. The other 25% is to escape. I'm sure I knew this but it really hits home when you are trying to be AF and you see/hear the little triggers that make you want to have a nice pour!
I am generally optimist and positive about most things. My husband, not so much. My glass is half full, his glass is not only empty but it's broken.
I'll spare the details but here's the bullets:- I didn't remind him of my nail appointment (which has occurred every two weeks on Wed since the beginning of time).
- The display on his car must be going out because it was so dim he couldn't see it. We check it out, no problem found.
- His daughter wants to take him to lunch/dinner on Sun for father's day but he's sure there will be lines... Ah..they have this great thing these days...it's called make a reservation.
There was something else...and my inner soul was desiring 10 oz of wine. I even logged it to see if it fit within my calorie range. It did.... but I didn't!
The scale was even favorable this morning🙂
6/15 A ~ 🍷🍷🍷 Intentional wine yesterday. Nice evening, cooked salmon and made a southwest salad (well, actually, I dumped it out of a bag from Sam's club🙂 , that counts!)
Today I start a fast at noon that ends tomorrow morning, so no wine. Saturday and Sunday will probably have drinks then Monday is another fast so no wine.
6/16 AF ~ Yipee! 💚
🙂🙂🙂 hot damn! the scale was a beautiful thing this morning! Tomorrow will be back up I'm sure as we did a little Father's day celebrating eating out for both breakfast and dinner and a few cocktails. Tomorrow will include a 3 Mile walk. Will catch up with everyone tomorrow.
6/17 A ~ 🍷🍷🍷
A fun day yesterday.
6/18 A ~ 🍷🍷🍷
I think I had way too much fun this weekend. It was nice to just relax and the weather was perfect. Today - back on track and grabbing that caution that I threw to the wind this weekend!🙂
Today I'm supposed to be fasting to end my power week at 30 hours. I'm 14 hours in....and I'm not yet starving so fingers crossed. Tomorrow I go back to 18:6.
I'm actually trending for my second best AF month this year! If I finish "according to plan", I will tie my January best month!! All bets off for July / Vacation!!!
6/19 A ~ 🍷🍷
It was not a good idea to try for a 30 hour fast. I stopped at 21. I wasn't famished but I didn't think I would sleep well if I was super hungry - so 21 was good enough. Today back to 18:6 and planning meals and drinks for the rest of the week.🙂
6/20 A ~ 🍷
Does AAF count (almost AF )🙂 My intent was to have my ICEjuice which I did...but then I had a bit of Prosecco left from the weekend that would be flat soon, so I had a Prosecco spritzer with ICE. I'm still thrilled... that was almost like me stopping at one glass of wine, but truthfully, it was even less than one!
6/21 A ~ This >
Stopped by the grocery store for salad greens and saw Mike's No Sugar Lemonade. Of course I had to try it. 100 calories per 12 oz (24 oz can) and 4% alcohol.
It was ok. I could see drinking this on a very hot day and it would be satisfying. I always think Mike's are too sweet so this actually has some potential
6/22 A ~
6/23 AF ~ Yipee! 💚 Friday was a long (20 hours) fast day so no alcohol. Incorporating IF supports lower alcohol intake.

I didn't drink any days in June. But, I'm probably going to have at least a few drinking days in July, and that's when it's going to get harder. I'm going to try to keep my default to no alcohol, and only have beer on a few occasions when it's worthwhile, such as a brewery (especially when I'm travelling).
I'm Canadian, and I'm successfully avoiding doing anything drinking-related with friends on July 1 (Canada Day), as I'm spending the weekend with my parents. (I often spend long weekends with them, as it's worth the trip, and I get to relax and help in their garden, so this trip would have happened even without the no drinking.)6 -

Alcohol: 25 days (? drinks)
Days over 2 glasses: 11 on vacation + 3 back at home

Alcohol Free 24 DAYS!

REALLY REALLY happy with this count. 1.5 days a week with a drink.
Reminder to myself...
Just because you live in paradise does not mean you need to drink like Jimmy Buffet ☀️🏝
Onward to July thread.

Ended June with 17 AF/30 days which I am pretty happy with. I did not go into June with any particular goal or plan, just wanted to see how it went after abstaining for over 2 months due to illness, hospitalization and recovery. On to July.4

@itladyee and @Michieb125 Thanks for mentioning and thinking of me! I've had some things going on and took a break, but I plan to be back in July. See you all soon!
