Internet went out this whole afternoon.
Had a wonderful, if exhausting day. Saw Orcas from our window. The sea was oily smooth. Wonderful!
Painting went well. We are just copying the teacher's painting, but I was quite pleased with it. Linedancing, a lecture on our next stops, then Argentinian tango! Then choir. Oouuff! Plus 48 flights of 10 steps. The tango was excruciatingly difficult. Great fun though. My poor hips have had enough swivelling.
We had a Elton John tribute concert tonight. Pretty good.
Much love

Heather,
You are a wonderful artist. I love your work.
Lanette,
I can hardly - in fact, I can not - imagine you as a complainer or someone who offered unsolicited advice about something you knew little about. I just can’t.

Warning: rant below
Iwas leaving BK today and there was a customer. Lately, they have this thing where a manager has to punch you out, which really isn’t a big problem. Anyway, I was about to punch out and said to the manager “take care of the customer first”. It takes a whole 30 seconds to place your order! She said to me “no, go ahead”. So again I said “help the customer” He started to place his order and she said “just a minute”. Then, (there are customers in the store) I go to leave and the door is locked. Someone walked by said “it was probably Miss A” I tell you, if I went to a restaurant and saw patrons inside but the doors were locked, I’d be PO’d If you advertised “breakfast” and the doors were locked, I wouldn’t like that at all. Really, cutting back on what you order is one part of the equation, being open for the customer (who ultimately pays our salary) is the other (making a profit) The other day I had to say to a manager “there’s a customer who wants to place an order”. The manager was sitting in the office looking at pictures on her phone. And they wonder why they have a “labor” problem. I’m not going to say anything, just do my job to the best of my ability.
M – I meant does pip go to any one site for her music? I think it’s walk.jog.fm that also lists BPM or pace. We’ve ripped lots of CD’s, too. Vince has them on the network. Hope your elbow is better fast
Lanette – I’m so glad you have such wonderful friends! How is that ceramic lady losing money if you don’t pay? The overhead is the same for 6 people or 12. I can only think that it isn’t good for business. Does she turn people away? I know that there is a minimum of 12 (or supposed to be) at our ceramic place. Last Tuesday there were 15. What Vince mainly is worried about is someone bumping into you when you are painting something real delicate. I know the other day I went to go to the bathroom and could just barely get by (sideways) between Vince and the person behind him.
Have a question for Lanette or anyone else. I have this ceramic of Porky Pig which I haven’t done yet. Anyway, you know how he has that “halo” around him that says “that’s all folks”. I’m trying to think of a way to do that. The only thing I can think of is if I get a sign and while it’s in greenware have them fill in whatever is written so that it’s totally flat and attach that to something to put in the ground next to him. Does anyone else have any ideas?
Allie – great idea Heather had to have those pics side-by-side.

No, never have gone to a particular site for music

Good evening ladies!
Today I ate 1188 calories. Yay! And I did thirty minutes on the bike, and then dumbbells.Yay! My deficit is 407. Yay!
I increased my reps for the dumbbells from 30 to 40, which went well. I got much more sweaty and rested a few extra times. I started early and had plenty of time. So 40 could be my new normal!
Machka that's great that you got back to the mainland. But so sad that your elbow will prevent cycling for a bit (Did I understand that right?)
Heather what a wonderful cruise! I looked up Saga, but I don't think they have anything on this side of the Atlantic. But as long as I'm dreaming, why not? And I love your painting, especially the bark. You have a great sense of whitespace.

Despite the fact that I cycled 53 km immediately after falling backward and landing on it ... yes, for the next few days I've been advised to rest the arm. Putting weight on it is probably not the best idea.

Hybrid and me last Wednesday prior to me ramming my left elbow into the ground.
Nice colour! One of my favourite colours.
Not so nice piece of equipment.
My saddle would not stay put. It kept slipping down. So I'd raise it slightly higher than ideal, ride a few km until it was so low my knees were up around my chin. Then I'd raise it again and repeat.
It was cold there ... I've got 3 long-sleeved tops, one jacket and a vest on! And I didn't take any of them off the whole ride.
I am wearing my winter cycling shoes with 2 pair of socks, but even so my feet were freezing by the end of that ride ... 4 hours later.

Barbie - glad to hear your friend wants to buy your Subaru! And that she's willing to take you and Jake shopping for your next car.
I think there are at least half a dozen of us in this group that have or had Subaru's. Mine is the third one I've owned, my sis is on her second one.
Speaking of, I'm going to have the shop look at the other non-noisy bearing when I take it in on Thursday. I'm a big fan of preventive maintenance. I called them today and asked if they could go ahead and replace the other one while it's in there, they said no, they don't normally. Perhaps they are heavily scheduled right now. But I'll lean on them to inspect it the other one and give me an indication of the condition and we'll take it from there.
Heather - your paintings are wonderful. How large are they? And I really look forward to hearing about the things you do on your trip and the people you meet.
Annie - You are doing a great job in the sister challenge. Kudos!
Carol - are you finding good movies to watch on Prime? I don't know if you've ever subscribed to Britbox or Masterpiece or Acorn thru Prime - these now run about $7.50 each per month. Since I'm crazy for British mysteries, they have a lot and I often subscribe to one for a month and binge on them. I'm back with Britbox right now watching the 10th season of Father Brown. I think you'd enjoy this one. I've rewatched all the Father Browns, Vera's, Death in Paradise, Endeavor, Midsommer Murders. And this winter will probably rewatch them again!
Sue in WA - I bet you were glad to have your DD back home, sorry to hear she came home with a sty, hope it's getting better. Bet she has a lot of exciting stories to tell and maybe some photos to show.
Machka - glad you were able to get back to the mainland for a bit, and super glad your elbow will get looked at. What can they do for a broken elbow? Probably depends on where it's broken and what type of break.
I mowed the front lawn today - and made the first pass at getting the dandelions under control at least.
Also had a little mishap. After I finished mowing, I was weed-eating and managed to step in a deep hole in the lawn. I had no idea it was there, but fell forward, landed on my "good" knee and the weed-eater. I got up, shook myself off, and finished the job and came into the house, elevated my knee and slapped the ice pack on it. That's the bad news.
The good news is that another Louise Penny novel popped up on my Kindle so I got to binge read it all afternoon. Just finished.
And the other good news is that my knee is stiff, but really no swelling and very little bruising. Seems like if I walk on it a couple minutes, it's 90% better. So grateful. I could have had a sprained ankle, broken wrist, or worse. Our subdivision used to be farmland and this hole looks like a spot where a large fencepost would have been pulled out at one time. We've always just mowed over it without noticing.
That's it for now. Have a great evening.

Hi all!
We have a short trip scheduled for this afternoon, so, unusually for a port day, we are going to the gym as usual at 7. Then a leisurely breakfast. Despite my simple carbs ban , I allow myself one bowl of porridge during the cruise.
DH says he wants to go into town in the morning, but I don't think there is a lot there, and our coach will take us around it, before taking us to the Arctic Cathedral. We are in Alta, in the far north. There are UNESCO rated ancient rock carvings here, from the Stone Age, and I did think of going to see them in the morning, but I have seen many photos of them, and read about them, so I decided not to pay out the extra money. And I'm not good at doing two big things in one day.
Annie - you could always fly over. Southampton or Gatwick are the nearest airports. They would pick you up from there. I know it's just a dream, but ....... Nothing is impossible.
The paintings we are doing are copies of the teacher's. It's useful for technique, and I'm pleased with my efforts, but it's craft rather than creativity. The important thing is that we are enjoying ourselves and the class is very sociable and easy-going.
The dance teachers haven't quite grasped our ages and capabilities, but it's good to be challenged. The tango was really hard.
Line dancing is the usual chaos in my brain.
The singing is wonderful. We have finished the sea shanty and are now doing Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Parts and harmonies. I find holding the harmony really hard. But the young cast who are leading us, soprano, alto, tenor and bass, are fantastic and the choir is big, so we are making a good noise.
OK. Off to the gym.
Love Heather, up in the Arctic. Xxxxxx9 -
Machka - That must have been wonderful to get to the mainland for a bit.
Margaret - I am envious of your berries. Maybe I need to try to plant some next year.
Kylia - I’m glad you were able to talk to DH. Are they going to take it seriously and hire more help? Maybe they should let you manage it, you seem to care more than they do.
Barbie - Thank you, you are too kind.
I too, don’t like asking for favours or accepting them when they are offered. I have been trying to be better at it as that is a way for our friends to show they care.
Michele - you sound unhappy with your BK job now, not like you used to be.
Yes that is what is happening. Say 12 people have registered, she doesn’t have room for more so has to turn people down. Then of those 12 only 8 show, it means she has lost business because she had to turn others down.
You could make Porky hold a sign, like a plant stake and have it fired together from green ware.
Barbie - You have made the best life for yourself.
Rebecca - we look around the house with dollar signs too. It helps to fund other things we need or want.
Heather - you’ll need a vacation to recover from your vacation. What fun! I’m so drawn to your Winter painting. I’m always drawn to a winter scene as it reminds me of happy times growing up. The beauty of the white snow on open fields and in the trees took my breath away many times. Your painting takes me home, I love it.
I went with my friend for a picnic today. We found a lake about an hour away. It was beautiful.
I think I’m going to Kaitlyn’s tomorrow, she is anxious for me to see their newly painted home.
Off to bed, it was a long day out in the fresh air.

Slow walk to the beach and back today ...
Exercise so far this month ... a bit up and down. It's been a chaotic month.

I had my porridge, which was 😋 . I have it with butter and salt, the Scottish way.
I also had huge prunes with a fresh orange slice and their homemade yoghurt. Heaven.
The hotel manager stopped by to chat. She has never seen an orca!!!
When we go to the gym, we are the only people there.
The cheese situation is sorted out. The chef only orders a couple of Epoisses and Chaorces, because most people find them too strong, so he is keeping them just for me.
Last night I had the most heavenly Venison Tartare. The food in the dining room is excellent, with a few mistakes, which we always point out. We often eat lightly, with fish being a favourite.
Today, because we are off at 1.15, we are having room service at 12. Asparagus, and Scotch Egg.
You can have anything you want 24 hrs a day.

Lanette, sorry you stepped in that hole. Sounds scary. But you did the right things, rest and elevation and ice.
The smoke alarm in my room is chirping loudly every three hours, scaring Teddy half to death. He has been shaking. I woke up out of a strange dream. My ex husband was yelling at me, and instead of taking it quietly like I usually did, I screamed back at him that he was such a liar that everything he said was worthless noise. So I woke up angry and righteous. No wonder Teddy won't settle. I'm downstairs on the couch now, where the alarm isn't as strong. I guess I need to change the battery in the morning. But I think all the clocks are stuck at 3:30. It's that kind of night.

Pip: Happy anniversary! Love the pictures.
Machka: Glad you had someone look at that elbow. (((Hugs))) Good idea to use the conference trip to revisit a old haunts with DH.
Annie: 👍🏻 4lbs down 👌🏻
Nature calls 😝 Will get caught up on Pgs 65/6 + later.

Heather: Enjoying your travelogue. 🥰 the winter scene. You may have taken inspiration from her scene, and a few pointers in technique, but I think you do yourself an injustice when you say you were copying the teacher.
🤗 🤗 🤗 and 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 for those who need/want them.

We moved away from the area we visited this past week 10 years ago. I'm having trouble getting my head around that. It certainly doesn't seem that long.
So I began to think about what has happened over the past 10 years. Sometimes I think that nothing has happened in the past decade ... that I haven't accomplished anything ... that I've stagnated. But I haven't!
- I've had 4 jobs and have moved up the band levels.
- I am in a much better financial position (although the cost of living has also gone up a lot, and my husband's situation isn't great)
- I have completed another degree at university
- I have taken courses in accounting (MYOB), photography, Spanish and brain injury ... and I'm currently taking a Clinical Costing course
- Became an Australian citizen
- Sat on a board for a non-profit organisation
- Became president of my region's long distance cycling club
- Organised all sorts of cycling events
- I've learned something about gardening and have built a landscaping feature
- Learned about beekeeping and have a hive
- Adopted Rhody
- Started converting my website to Wordpress
- Relearned to drive
- Travelled to North America and a few places in Australia, especially Tasmania
- I've lost a lot of weight ... and gained it back
- Cycled thousands of kilometres
- Participated in running events for the first time since I was a teenager, including several 10 km runs and one half marathon.
- Walked, hiked up mountains, canoed, rowed, lifted weights, did Pilates ...
- Became a carer
- Became a grandmother!
There's hope for the next 10 years!
M in Oz6 -
Terri and Lanette, thanks! It's a tough program but it's going well!
Heather I spent a couple of months in England up near Peterborough in a town called Thrapston. I loved walking past all the little gardens. The work was terrible but the sightseeing was grand! I went to London several times, and down to Bath once, as well as up to Scotland. But for now, I can't leave my parents overnight. So I'm another virtual traveler on your cruise. You really do have us in your pocket!

To all you wonderful gals,
I'll be off the grid for the next three months. I'm off to Alaska on Thursday and plan to return end of September. I'll miss reading and interacting here. Wishing everyone good health and good times. Will be wonderful to reconnect in the fall.
Hugs around,
