Good evening ladies!
Today I ate way too many calories. It was a rest day but I've been reading about active recovery and decided I could do twenty minutes on the bike. I was still way over calories. Oh well, tomorrow we start over.
Tomorrow is the neckbone and navy bean soup. I will be cooking for hours but hope I won't eat. We are expecting thunderstorms.

I’ve had a feeder for hummingbirds for months. I realized the feeder was not good. I saw a bird once & it didn’t return. Today I bought two new feeders with a much better design like those we had in Oregon. I’ll be putting both of them tomorrow & I’m looking forward to putting them up in the morning. 😊

Michele - the ceramic shop here has some. I don’t know if she ordered them or if she has molds but they are out there.
Annie - Yay!!!! Good for you for being persistent.
LeeAnn - what a pretty view
Carol - we don’t have dogs but really enjoy our Grandpup. Today I went to see the new paint at out daughter’s house. While I was there she was telling me how Ember (the dog) was pacing and worked up because they had their living room and kitchen upside down while they were painting for two days. When they finished last night and had everything back in place, Ember circled a couple of times went onto her end of the couch sighed heavily as if she had been working for two days and promptly fell asleep.
Terri - I love that you have family Skype so often. I would love to do that, but don’t think I would have participants.
Katla - I hope your new feeders attract the hummingbirds, I know how much you enjoy them.
I had a good weekend, now the Monday morning anxiety is setting in. I dread I may get an email or text.

We are moored in Honningsvåg. The most northerly 'city' in Europe. Soon we are off to the North Cape, the most northerly point of land. The weather is cloudy, but visibility OK. Some people are flying in a helicopter, but we are going in a coach.
I slept for ages last night.
This afternoon we hope to take the short walk into town and wander around. If we can find a supermarket, we might buy some cured meat and fish to bring home. Plus liquorice.
Love to all, Heather, in the North xxxxxxxx

For the most part, I use active recovery. I rarely have a day with no exercise but my exercise quantity and intensity will vary.

For those of us with kidney issues ...
Nutrition and early-stage kidney disease
https://www.health.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0021/146442/renal-ckd.pdf
Enjoying a healthy diet is important for everybody. It is especially important for people with kidney disease. Your diet can help slow down the decline of your kidney disease. The types of food you eat play an important role in:
• Achieving a healthy weight
• Controlling blood pressure
• Managing blood glucose levels if you have diabetes
• Managing cholesterol levels
All these factors can lead to better kidney and overall health.
In my case, I'm working on losing weight, controlling my blood pressure, and managing cholesterol levels.
These are some general tips:
• Eat regular meals e.g. breakfast, lunch and dinner
• Eat a variety of foods from all the food groups - especially plant-based foods and wholegrains
• Aim for a colourful mix of fruit (2 servings a day) and vegetables (5 servings a day)
• Don’t eat too much protein (see explanation below)
• Use herbs and spices to flavour foods instead of salt
• Cook fresh as much as possible, and eat less unhealthy options such as ultraprocessed foods, takeaways, and soft drinks
And about exercise ...
It is recommended that all Australians exercise for 30 minutes most days of the week. ... If you want to lose weight, you may need to do some longer exercise sessions (45-60 minutes) and follow a reduced energy diet.

Lovely day. We saw reindeer, Arctic skuas, amazing flowers on the cliff edge, including a few dandelions! The clouds drifted away in time for photos, though we drove through them on the way. I had a good coffee in the visitor centre and caught up with all my WhatsApp because the data strength was amazing. I even sent a video.
DH went off for a walk around the next headland.
Now we are going to stroll into town after an excellent fishy lunch.

Heather - Thank you for the pics!
Betsy - I know you're already up north by now, just sending my hopes for a wonderful summer and traveling grace on your return. You'll be missed! Hope your sister's news continues good as well.
Flea - Hope the Belize trip is wonderful...
Annie - Pleased for you to see your continual progress. You are doing so well on your sister challenge, I'm glad it's been so successful for you.
Barbara AHMOD - So pleased to see you pop your head up. Hope all is well.
Debbie - Hope your weekend with your mom was good.
Dry, dry, dry here and more extreme heat to come this week. The li'l weather weasels are predicting over 100 through Friday. Supposedly we'll be getting rain next week, all week long. Do hope so, or there will probably be water restrictions and burn bans by the Fourth of July.
Just the usual chores this morning - laundry, empty the dishwasher etc. The ambition is to work through our spending records today, getting a good picture of what we've spent the last six months and what exactly we've spent it on. I've been lax on recording things, and it's time to get us back to some financial discipline again.
Even with my sliding on the detail work, we're on track to pay off the house next month, which will be exactly five years since we bought it. When I retired early at age 60, it slowed us down by about six months, but didn't stop us, and I'm really pleased for that. The amount of interest we've saved by paying off a 30-year mortgage in five years just staggers me.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa5 -
Heather- you and Johnny look like you are having an awesome time..im do glad..
Im over with Miles who is snoozing..
I missed the little guy..
They got me a Hampton Beach sweatshirt blanket for my birthday.. ,I love a good blanket...
Watching the weather for up North. Stormy most of the weekend on and off,but being away and at the lake will be wonderful..
I didn't sleep well at all last night tossed and turned .. oh well..
Have to.call the sleep dr office ,they sent the script to the medical supply place andd they sent the hosing and nose gear ,but not the head gear that holds it on.. so will have to see if they csn work there magic.I ordered it from amazon, but it should be covered by my insurance.
Machka- let us know about your xray of the elbow...2 -

Annie how old is the detector? If resetting it did not work it might need to be replaced. The age life span is 10 years. Wrote this before you had success. Yeah!
Finally got some decent rain. We will be in the 80's this week with some rain. Plan to enjoy the week.

Heather, your trip looks amazing! Enjoying the pics.
Machka, sorry to read about your injury. Hopefully it is not a long recovery.
Hummingbirds - I put up 2 feeders this year hoping to attract more to stay here. Had a few juveniles and males earlier but they all left except for 1 male. I'm hoping there is a female around and I just haven't seen her as I like seeing the little one that they usually raise. I'm wondering if all the smoke that we were dealing with earlier has affected the migration.
Been busy with my garden and the usual yard work. Hilled my potatoes yesterday and going back about in about an hour to do a bit more weeding. Lettuce is coming along nicely and will probably be able to start using it in a couple more days. Looking forward to that as big difference in garden produce compared to what we buy in the stores.
Lucy is turning out to be a bit of a watch dog. Will bark if someone comes in the yard but nice that she will stay close to me and not run out. She now knows that her area is just in our immediate yard. Doesn't go on the road. We have a hedge that runs along the front of the yard and will only go as far as that. I don't leave her unsupervised outside but she keeps pretty close to Buddy.
Enjoy your day, ladies.

Good morning ladies!
Lisa, great job on the finances!
Tracey and Lisa, thanks for the encouragement on my sister challenge. After overeating yesterday, I'm not too hungry today, so maybe I can shave off some extra calories. But I don't want to cut healthy food to support my sugar habit. Hmm.
Heather, glad you are having such a great time! Looks lovely! And glad you have a wonderful companion!
Margaret, you are right all the detectors are due for replacement. We should work on that before it beeps again. What is that word- proactive? No that sounds foreign to me. Lol!
Machka active recovery is tricky when my normal exercise is not very intense. A lot of what they recommend for active recovery is what I do for normal exercise.
But I can give it a try. My bike is set to a resistance of four. I might go higher soon, and then I could turn down the resistance on rest days.
Allie hope you can get the CPAP working again. Ti slept very well last night, after lousy sleep the night before. But I dreamed about my ex husband again. Wish he would stay out of my brain. I woke up mad at him again. I haven't heard from him in five years.
Have a great day my friends!

Yesterday I bought two new hummingbird feeders to replace the ones I dislike. I plan to put up the new ones later today if weather cooperates. So far it is a windy day.🤞🏻🤞🏻 🤞🏻

It was HOT this afternoon!!! We walked around town, and I bought some dried reindeer strips and elk salami (!)for the grandchildren. They have rather sweet pictures on the front. They love trying weird things.
Bought some chocolate for our next-door neighbour, who is watering the geraniums, and, for us, some liquorice, and smoked trout from the Lofoten Islands, where we are going next.
I was totally knackered by the time I got back, having called in at the Christmas shop on the way. I would have bought something, but Norway is mega expensive.
So, for the first time, I had to take the lift, because I couldn't lift my legs up for 10 flights and my thigh was complaining bitterly.
A couple of photos from my walk. You can see our ship with the yellow funnel. A young boy gave me a flower while I was taking the first photo.
Relaxing now. Kidney starter, then duck tonight. A red wine night. We usually have a posh pinot noir, from Burgundy, which is not too heavy.
Lunch was fresh tuna salad and salmon in a cream and herb sauce with a rutabaga and potato crust.
Canapés arriving soon. I'm actually quite hungry after my walk. I was out for 105 minutes. T shirt weather. In the Arctic!
Love Heather , who is glad she was not in the coach that broke down this morning. It was quite the journey, with hairpin bends and up in the clouds. Xxxxxx4 -
The view from our cabin as we sail away. The sun shining on the bow.

1. Decide to look for what’s good every day this month. Started with friendly people.
2. Say positive things in your conversations with others. I will try, but people annoy me.
3. Re-frame a worry and try to find a helpful way to think about it. This will be about my son. Not sure how to re-frame it but will find a way today. I must realize he is a full grown man and in charge of his own life.
4. Take a photo of something that brings you joy and share it.
5. Think of 3 things you’re grateful for and write them down. 1. My family, 2. A roof over my head, 3. Enough food to eat.
6. Get out into green space and feel the joy that nature brings. every day!
7. Do something healthy that makes you feel good. 2 walks so far. And therapist today.
8. Find joy in music: sing, play, dance, listen or share. To be accomplished.
9. Ask a friend what made them happy recently. Did this on my trip to Lubbock to get my car back finally. Was a great day!
10. Bring joy to others by doing something kind for them. Will report on this later! Gave a family some Little Debbie cookies.
11. Eat good food that makes you happy and really savor it. Will do! Yesterday had a salad made from lettuce, onion, peppers, and tomato from my garden. The dressing was homemade too! Mmmmmm
12. Write a gratitude letter to thank someone. To be done! Sent my GS a thank you note for being my grandchild!
13. Take a light-hearted approach. Choose to see the funny side. Already happening after a very stressful day yesterday.
14. Share a happy memory with someone who means a lot to you. Will do.
15. Look for something to be thankful for where you least expect it. This will be fun to find things. How about turtle eggs on the beach that have to be moved to not be crushed.
16. Speak to others in a warm and friendly manner. I will try.
17. Take time to notice things that you find beautiful. Will do! Watched people enjoying the lake on a beautiful Saturday!
18. Look for something good in a difficult situation. My son is getting help from a social worker who is including me.
19. Get outside and find the joy in being active.Too hot today, 105 degrees at 1;45 pm!
20. Rediscover and enjoy a fun childhood activity. Going to color! Didn’t do this. I must make time to do this.
21. Send a positive note to a friend who needs encouragement. Forgot to do this
22. Watch something funny and enjoy how it feels to laugh. There is a funny tv show called “The Neighbors” about humans living next door to aliens that makes me laugh. Will watch that today.
23. Create a playlist of uplifting songs to listen to. I have one already!
25. Show your appreciation to people who are helping others. Will do if i have the opportunity.
26. Make time to do something playful just for the fun of it. I will try to remember!27. Be kind to you. Do something that brings you joy.
28. Notice how positive emotions are contagious among people.
29. Share a friendly smile with people you see today.
30. Make a list of the joys in your life and keep adding to it.

Okay, so far I have boiled the beans for two minutes, and set them aside to soak for an hour, per the package directions. I sauteed onion and garlic, then added celery mushroom and carrots. I cleaned the neck bones, then added water and the neck bones to the pot. So the neck bones can get a head start and simmer for four hours, and I can add the beans halfway through.
My shirt is all wet from rinsing. You can tell I don't do this much.
Oh geez what if the beans don't fit in the big pot? I hope it cooks down!
Annie in Delaware4 -
It cooked down enough. But it is one big pot of soup! I'm a little uneasy about how to get all the bones out. I usually burn my fingers doing that, because it takes patience.
Meanwhile I'm doing well on my diet today. I think I will make up for some of the overage yesterday.

Heather your getting me excited for my cruise..
Miles is such a cutie..he is learning all sorts of words now. And when I went to leave he blows me kisses,he doesn't do that for just anyone ..only special people..
Tracy stopped at Carmines school and got her book for her to catch up on IT thats what she changed to from Carpentry..and thats what Seth graduated with a degree in.
Found out Tracy had rented a place so both Seth and Carmine could have gone with them and Carmine decided to whole up at her grandmothers instead..
Oh well.
I couldn't find Alfie when I got home. He was in the doggie bed I got for the car glad he likes it.2 -
Annie ~ I hope your beans come out well!

Wanted to say thanks for the information months ago on the Epley maneuver. I think it was Rebecca who was suffering so terribly from vertigo, and Karen who first suggested the maneuver, but not completely sure. A medication the gastros put me on for gut inflammation gave me terrible vertigo and dizziness, so they stopped it and put me on an antibiotic regimen instead. The worst of the vertigo passed, but mild vertigo remained, especially when I look up, or lie down.
I tried the home Epley maneuver (looked it up online) yesterday on my left side. It diminished the vertigo almost completely. Not the first thing I've learned from this group, and probably won't be the last. I'm grateful!6 -
I think it was me who praised the Epley Manouver. It really helped DH. Bob and Brad on YouTube.
Magic!!!
We earned our halos tonight by helping our next door neighbour, who obviously has Alzheimers, because she was distressed and missing her husband. Really sad. We called the reception and they tried to find him, while we stayed with her, with the cabin cleaner. Someone higher up came, but she really needed a woman companion to sit with her. We stayed with her for 40 minutes while they looked for the husband, who obviously thought he could get away for a bit. She shouldn't be on the cruise as she didn't even know if she had eaten dinner! Poor woman. She couldn't find her card for the lights. Eventually he came back.
The strange thing is, she was beautifully dressed.
We are not impressed with the response of the company.
Anyway, we have bonus points for Karma.
Love Heather xxxxxxxx

Got home this morning. Long and stressful weekend but mom had a good party which is the reason I was there.
Rushed home this morning after a late night to be home in time for my daycare girl and she came in 2 1/2 hrs late. Mom took the day off because their dog died last night.
Have 6 pages to read to catch up here.4 -

I was looking at the miles that I’ve been logging in and I’m still in 1st place and I was getting close to 900miles. I did a 15 mile ride and I got off and found that I needed were 3 ore miles to get to 900 so I got back on. I am now at 901.09 miles. Next person has 528.17miles.
Today was Kirby’s 1st outside riding day so I had the kids . After the 4 miles, I dropped Lucy off and saw Chispa didn’t look too excited to go back out for another 2 miles so I left her and it was just me and yogi. It was nice to have some one on one time with him again.
So far I’ve raised $567 for the MS Ride.
The material came in for the chair so we dropped it off and in a couple of weeks we’ll have new upholstery on it!

I use a slotted spoon. Granted that's usually before I've put the beans in, but it should still work.
