Just booked the Lyon Hotel.
Three nights Inc breakfast. Fully cancellable. It's 15 mins walk from the station where we are catching the TGV to Narbonne, so that will avoid a taxi fare. It's much cheaper than the original one I was looking at, but in a good centralish area with lots of restaurants. Excellent reviews.
So..... nearly all done!
DH looked a bit startled last night when I said he could do the insurance! I don't think he had even thought about it, because it's included with Saga.
A couple of the hotels I fancied were already fully booked, for October! As was one of the TGVs. In the old days before the Internet it was possible to take potluck, but not any more. Trains are much cheaper booked well ahead. Paying on the day is very expensive. We used to drive through France with the children, and just stop when we felt like it! I wouldn't risk that now.
DH has gone to cricket, hooray! Tomorrow it will be raining, so we are taking Max to Hove Museum in the afternoon.
I actually did some cut and pasting and close editing this morning before looking at hotels. Proud of myself. I knew I would feel better if I did.
Having Tandoori chicken for dinner as his portion can be easily heated up when DH comes home. Salad and raita.
I'm so looking forward to speaking French again, and channelling my inner French woman. I was French in another life, I'm convinced.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Achieved a minor personal goal yesterday; got over 8,000 steps in, and nearly hit 9,000! Will have to inch the goal up to 10,000 again at this rate.I do love seeing the fitbit stats when I'm doing well...
You can literally see the improvements week over week as I've started feeling better. The hard part now is not OVERdoing, just continuing the slow improvements. My lifelong pattern with exercise has been doing too much, too fast, hurting myself somehow and setting myself back. Trying not to do that now. Just trying to heal and get more fit at a measured rate. (Thus endeth the self-lecture for today.
)
Today is an inside day other than hanging a few towels out to dry... it's already 77 outside and will shoot up when the sun comes up. Time to get my office/craft room cleaned and tidied and the projects lined out that I'd like to accomplish before John and Soraya show up next month.
This got long, so I edited into chunks:
Gardening Stuffs:Corey brought home mulch from work last night (105 degrees out!), and we were able to get my front flowerbeds mulched and his roses redone. It's part of why the step count went up; I went out and helped place and spread it. They not only look better, but they'll hold more moisture for these next weeks of the hottest part of the summer, less watering.
We're fortunate that the boss and owner encourages him taking the small amount we need here for free. They bring it in by the ton, and they usually have a half ton or more left over that they clear each winter for the next year. Unused landscaping plants are also up for free, and we've gotten a number of trees and other plants that way that we've nursed back to health after they've been in their yard too long. Well, some didn't make it, but many do.
Food Stuff:On food times, etc., like Barbie, I find as I am spending energy, I'm eating small amounts more often - Just trying to let my body dictate the timing and content for now. If I eat sweet in the morning, I want sweet stuff all day, so I'm trying to keep that in hand (though the mochi balls look amazing!). Sugar-free non-dairy creamer in my one cup of coffee seems to help in the morning without being a trigger. One thing was, because of the mulching, etc., we did not eat dinner until nearly 7 last night, and that is too late for me. Will try not to do that again.
This morning was an omelet, two eggs, one ounce of pepper jack in a teaspoon of butter. I take a lot of meds that need some food padding, so it's key to the start of my day. But, I couldn't eat half, so I'll keep it and warm it up for my next snack. Total is 300 cals, 20 g protein. Split in half, it's about ten grams of protein and 150 calories for each small meal. Keeps me going (probably two to three hours) and is pretty darn yummy. The protein puts me well on my way to my needed 65g a day. Please note, I don't track closely right now, I just keep it in mind. I might put the other half in a tortilla or a piece of bread to get some more balance in the next little meal.
For those who've not been here long, I'm the resident vegetable hater (Kim's alter ego) All vegetables taste horrible, bitter and like eating mud pies when I was young. This is not my finest trait, but I've tried more times than I can count to change it with zero success. Not saying that anyone should follow my lead on that, and I do take multiple supplements to help, as even the docs gave up on that one. I do have romaine lettuce for the occasional wrap, but since I use Caesar dressing with it, probably not a good example either...
Family Stuff:Texting with my daughter in between flights on her way back to Hawaii - the children's transfer back to her was horribly stressful, as expected, but she has her babies, and I think she and they will be OK. Luckily, the ex- hates talking to her, so he texts the most horrible responses to her requests for unpaid child care bills, etc. That paper trail has been shared with her commander and his, so his pay will soon be garnished if he doesn't step up. The hatred from him is so corrosive for my daughter, and he is hurting their 7-year-old daughter so much. Kels had her in counseling in Kansas, and will get her help once they're back in Hawaii.
Love y'all,

Good morning ladies!
We had an exciting day yesterday. My Dad, who is 88, went to the ER for extreme constipation. It became extremely messy. My sister was a huge help, waking up to take him in, while I waited for the technician to come fix Dad's computer. Then I went in to the ER, and she came home so Mom wasn't alone.
Poor Dad really wanted Mom to revert to her capable self, before the dementia. Sad to watch.
I made tuna pasta salad for dinner, something we could all eat. Tonight I have a tiny ham. Perhaps with two veggies and a salad. Tomorrow is steak on the grill. So the food is going well.
But I think I forgot my Mom's pills last night. I'm not perfect. I did get in thirty minutes on my bike. But skipped the dumbbells. This is my week off.

I just found this group about 10 minutes ago and feel that is something that I might enjoy. I know I need the support, but I tend to sort of hide and just read, not really participate. It is time for that to change, since I can't do this alone.
I live in NH, in the extreme northern tip. Our northern town border is, in fact, the Canadian border! It is extremely rural, but extremely beautiful. I love it here, in spite of the inconveniences that crop up from time to time.
I am 79, married, and caretaker of my husband. In about a month I will be having foot surgery on - both feet (on the same day) - so then I will need all the support I can get to make it through 8 weeks of recovery. Especially since I will not be able to get outside and work in my garden, which is my escape in the summer. In the winter, with 2 or 3 ft of snow on the ground, it is going down to my card making area, and making Christmas card, birthday cards, etc. etc. etc. I used to knit, but due to arthritis find that difficult to do now. I also like to make Rosaries, and I belong to a guild which sends the finished rosaries off to various places around the world. That I do all year round.
I am trying to lose about 30 lbs. It has proven to be more difficult than I had anticipated, so here I am. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.

That's just above the temp we keep our front rooms at during the winter. We usually keep the front rooms at about 18C (64.4F) and in fact, that's what it is in here right now. I'm in long stretchy, lightweight casual pants, a short-sleeved top ... with a light sarong available if I feel cool.
The back rooms are probably somewhere between about 14C and 16C (57 - 61F).
15 minutes later ... I've turned on my little personal fan because I've become too hot again. Even 18C gets too hot for me and my wonky body thermostat.

Welcome Kayne. You have quite the challenge ahead of you. My DSIL had an ankle fusion last year and is now fully and happily recovered, but the interim was frustrating. What help are you putting in place? I wish you all the best.
I read the news in the Guardian online in detail, and listen to it on TV everyday. I feel I am a citizen of the world and have a responsibility to be informed and involved in decisions by joining pressure groups and giving my vote. I guess I am a member of what we call 'the chattering class'.
We often don't watch the late evening news before bed, but midday and early evening we do. I love the Guardian, and read most of the back stories. It helps me feel more empowered by keeping my finger on the pulse. I do give to international charities to help ease suffering, like Medicins Sans Frontières.
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Kayne in NH, You sound like a perfect fit for this friendly crowd. Many of us are near your age, or have husbands to care for or have had surgeries that kept us slowed down for months. You will find support and encouragement here. Plan to come back every day and just jump into the conversation.

Another incredibly busy day.
At work, I've got a long list of things that need to be done in the next week and a half. Everything is happening at once!
At home ... same sort of thing. Everything is happening at once. Over just a few days, my Inbox filled with things for me to take care of.
But one of those things was kinda nice.
I accepted invitations for both of us to attend a formal reception at Government House in honour of the local Brain Injury Association. And it's on our anniversary!!
I have a dress I hope I still fit in, but I might need to get a suit for my husband.
Machka in Oz11 -
@kaynelvb Kayne in New Hampshire... Welcome! We're glad you're here, and many good wishes for your upcoming foot surgery. You'll find lots of crafty people, and more than one who creates cards throughout the year (not me, I hasten to add...
If I can't print it out on a computer, it won't get made...
)
As a caretaker yourself, I hope you will have assistance through your recovery period, and hope that it is a rapid and painfree recovery. Please feel free to let us know how you're doing, or ask any questions, or just vent your worries. We have a number of current and past caretakers of husbands, as well, and there will be much support from this group of amazing women.
You don't have to answer everyone or engage in every conversation, just where you're interested and willing to speak up, whether to give advice or to ask for it.
Machka - That's wonderful! And, since the government house is there, not far to go for you and your husband. Enjoy your night out, it's certainly well deserved.
Lanette - Debbie's right - it's the rare chicken that can produce two in a day. Double yolks, reasonably often, but not two separate eggs. (Scarce as hen's teeth, you know!) However, Gladys could have been happily cooing over someone else's egg. They're not exactly rocket scientists, chickens. Then again, I never had one jump in my lap, either, so what do I know?
Okay, I finally broke down and went and read the YouTube video on how to clean my tower fan that I rescued from storage this morning. It's like seven years old, but still works just fine, even has a remote. But there are enough dust bunnies in that thing to start a rabbit farm!
I rescued it from the storage room because the "zone" air conditioners (window a/c's actually) are starting to need assistance to distribute the air as the weather grows hotter. We're supposed to be getting at or about 105F (45C) for the next nine days, and air conditioners are usually only built to change the temperature about 20 degrees. Many can DO more than that, but the harder they work the more your electric bill goes up. More air circulation means more comfort and less work for the units, so a couple of fans to move things around means much less on-time for the automated units.
Now that I know what I need to do to clean the thing, I will go back to evicting the dust bunnies with extreme prejudice... and do it my way.
Because that is how I roll.
Later y'all,
Lisa in AR7 -
Welcome Kayne--This is a great group for support and friendship. Come often and get to know us and us know you.
Well my stress level just went way up. My new person is all set to start training tonight. Going to work a couple night shifts so she can learn the basics and then will bring her to day shift. Yesterday the lady that has been my right hand working days with me gave me her 30 day notice. I understand why she wants to retire now, friends sick and passing away. But sure puts me in a mess. I did request to be able to hire a part time person and PRN person. I am hoping they get back to me this week and can get it posted.
I did call the heart doctor and set my appointment up for this Friday afternoon. I go once a year for them to montor a heart vaule that is slow. I was due last May and they have sent me a couple letters. So be glad to have that done.
I am taking DH to the airport in the morning before I come to work. He is flying to Norfolk Virgina for 4 days of meetings. Going to work most the time he is gone.
It's to be over 100 here today. Sure could use some rain.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE9 -

Allie ... hope you feel better soon. Check with your doctor for their quarantine recommendations. The "rules" are constantly changing.
Kayne ... Welcome!
Lisa (and everyone else dealing with high temperatures) ... stay cool! We don't get anything near 100 degrees here near Buffalo ... which is good because I don't do well in the heat.
My mom's birthday on Saturday was a success. She called it a "perfect" day. I'm very thankful that I now have these opportunities to do things for her. This Friday will be the one year anniversary of my dad's death. I'm not sure that she's aware of the date ... a lot of more recent details in her life are fuzzy at best in her memory. Still, I will spend time with her in the event that she needs a little extra care.
The siding project is going slow, slow, slow. My husband's body is not holding up well at all. He and a friend worked on it steady yesterday and then my husband spent the night with "charlie horses." Today is now a recovery day.
Lanette ... a part of me wants to join the accountability postings and another part of me says don't do it! Every time I commit to something like your post, I end up sabotaging myself and failing. At the moment, I am on a downward trend as I'm making a concerted effort to watch what might be triggering digestive upset.

Did a body pump DVD today then stopped at Dollar General who didn’t have any dishtowels. They used to have such nice ones, but not this year. Then came home, got dinner ready, went to Aldi, here and then you know where
I don’t like getting the Covid shot and my flu shot at the same time. It’s been a few years since I’ve had the Covid one, tho. I didn’t get them together. In case I had a reaction, I wouldn’t know which vaccine I had the reaction to
Barbie – like you, I don’t fast during the day, either. I’m always afraid that I won’t have the strength to do something
I don’t mind the heat (especially now that we have the pool) but the cold REALLY bothers me
We read in the paper yesterday about this cat that’s at the Humane Society who has mouth cancer. We were thinking of taking it in until the end. But I have too many questions, so maybe not. Like medications, how would he get along with Loki?
Lisa – I’m so sad to read about your daughter. Sounds like she’s doing the best possible
Annie – thanks for the reminder that I need to put the salve on my eye. See, I have a stye, it doesn’t hurt so I didn’t realize I had it until I noticed the bump. Went to the eye MD, she prescribed this salve and told me that if it doesn’t go away in 2 or 3 weeks, it won’t and I’ll just have to live. She can squeeze it, but it’s really not that big so I may just live with it. So glad your sister helped you out so much
Kayne – thanks for coming out of hiding. As Rori would say “we can do this”. I used to make those rosaries, too. Haven’t done it in a long time, tho
Vicki – take care of ;yourself, watch that stress level!
On each piece of the border we got the other day are the stakes that you have to break off. Vince is doing that right now. We will probably install it next week because it’s supposed to be cloudy.

Good morning ladies!
Kayne - welcome, as others have said - you'll fit right in here. Many of us have faced or are facing the same challenges as you are right now. And trying, at the same time, to keep fit and healthy.
Lisa - you are my hero out there planting and working in the hot hot weather. Nice that Corey gets to bring home extra soil and plants from his job.
Annie - so glad your sis is there to help with your dad. You have a lot to deal with caring for your parents, I think of you a lot. You have done so well with your exercise and eating strategy despite pressures you encounter.
Heather - wonderful job getting the logistics of the trip to France figured out. It was 47 degrees outside when I got up this morning (8.3C) and went for my walk, and 67 degrees (19C) inside the house.
Beth - Glad your mom's birthday visit was a success. And good that your DH has a helper for the siding project. Sorry to hear about his charley horses. I don't envy them working in the heat - they probably knock off when the temps get too high. And, no worries about the accountability posting. I'm hoping what some of you ladies will help inspire others or at least help me keep on track and pay better attention to what goes into my mouth and how much activity I am getting each day.
What I'm tracking these days - again, data only.I have it set up in an Excel spreadsheet. I want to be able to look back in a month to try to determine what was and wasn't working on my journey to fit into my pants again, lol. I refuse to beat myself up or feel guilty because I didn't achieve some goal I pulled out of my rear that my inner drill sergeant imposed on me.Re the great chicken/ egg mysteryI refuse to go hungry to the point I feel faint or can't sleep due to tummy growling. We are all different and have different combinations of what works - I may add or subtract some categories tomorrow.
True confession: I know how I gained this weight in the past year - too much sitting in front of this laptop and too many sugary and processed foods, ocassionally to binge level after supper.

I'm all over the place and that's what I prefer - I am done with overdoing too many things and injuring myself!! Gardening, carrying heavy items like groceries/cat litter and housework counts too. I've been around chickens since I was a kid, DH and I had them when we lived in Issaquah and then on the farm. I never bothered to check who was laying which eggs, mostly because I wasn't home to watch the activity. So, the two eggs I got in one day - perhaps one was a late-afternoon arrival and when I went to check for eggs the next day, Gladys brought forth another one? Her second and third egg? and if one of the two was Thelma's, why did she stop laying after only producing the one about a week ago? Why am I not getting two per day or at least every other day? I agree, two per day from one hen is rare but not unheard-of. I kind of chalked it up to Gladys's egg factory sputtering as it was getting things set up, and the fact they are teensy eggs, but who knows.
They are under my watchful eye the whole time they are out exploring so I haven't seen any "secret nesting". I think I need a coop-cam, lol. Gladys was in the coop yesterday morning, just "rearranging the furniture" (kicking the straw and fake decoy egg out of a nest) but no production. Late afternoon is when she actually got in gear and produced another.
Maybe today both Gladys and Thelma will disappear into the coop. There are 3 nesting boxes so they won't have to fight over a spot. Knowing bully Thelma, they probably will.
My project this morning is moving things out of the garage and making room for the HVAC guy to do annual service on the heat pump and furnace without breaking his neck. And getting an electrician in this fall to replace those cursed wired-in smoke alarms.
Some of the stuff I moved from the garage went into the garbage but a lot of it is now on the shelves where DH's drums were stored. Some heavy lifting and carrying is involved which I'll add to my data sheet.
Then I am going to start setting up an exercise area in the finished/carpeted room "office" in the shop which means hauling out the heavy ankle weights and dumbbells, dragging out the rubber cushion mat I saw somewhere?? lol.
Better get crackin'. Make it a wonderful day, ladies!

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today. I will try.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them. I did not do this.
11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation. My son is bonding with his uncle and grandmother.
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”. I will try to remember to do this. Write them in my journal.
13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation. I worked on this. I also learned a breathing technique to help.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head. I do this every day, but the triple digit heat is preventing it.
15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step. I have to think about this.
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts. Controlled breathing helped here.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today. I use tenacity often so expect to use it here.
18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter. I will try!
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. I need to really remember this!
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself. I will definitely try.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life. Therapy, someone to talk to, long walks alone all help me through tough times, medication as well.
22. Find 3 things you feel hopeful about and write them down. 1. I hope my son makes good decisions. 2. I am hopeful that I will find the right place to retire. 3. I am hopeful that I will be able to visit family very soon.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time. I won’t dwell on things or situations that happen causing me bad feelings.
25. Notice when you are being judgmental and be kind instead. I will be aware of judging and simply accept.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath. I am teaching myself to do this through my meditations.27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

Lisa in Arkansas, I'm happy for Kelsey that she has her babies with her, but oh my! What an ordeal! Is her oldest still with his dad? I think I remember you saying that he had really stepped up to the plate, much to everyone's surprise! lol Too bad the other dad is being such a jerk, but nice that he's putting it in "writing", he won't win any "he said, she said" arguments! Not the brightest spark, I'm thinking....
Tracey, How exciting that you have been accepted for school! I went back to school about 8 years ago, did a business admin course. I think it helped me get the last job I had before retirement, certainly gave me direction which was sorely needed! I hope you are able to get the finances in place also.
Debbi and Rebecca, I tried mochi once, could not get past the glutinous mass that surrounded the ice cream! As Lisa would say "urk!"
Annie, fortunate that your sister was their to help out with your parents, and just when she was really needed too!
Beth, so nice that you were able to bring your mom to your home for her birthday! I know it took a lot of planning and figuring etc to get her closer to you, but it seems that it was all worth it!
Heather, congrats on booking your France trip! It sounds wonderful.
We are leaving today to go on holiday, we haven't seen our youngest son for almost four years, so we will be traveling across a few provinces to get to where he is. Neither hubby nor I slept all that well last night, good thing we aren't going too far today, hopefully since the trip will be started, we will sleep better tonight.
I will have plenty of electronics with me, so will be able to keep up with reading, don't know how much commenting I will be doing tho. I will be thinking of all of you tho as we go thru our various ups and downs.

Today is leftover soup.💖. Adding more fresh spinach, (yes lets make that soup greener shall we!?), and maybe a toasted cheese and turkey sandwich.
I packaged a tee shirt I bought for middle son (no reason, a just because gift💖). I put in a folder with blank paper and a bunch of stickers for Athena to play with. Their poor furniture though is getting covered with stickers! I'm the sticker Grandma!! It is not my fault they aren't monitoring her in where she puts them😂😂!
Thought this was so cool!
Eldest son has two large Japanese lamps and a tall one. I clipped the electrical off them because I was worried he'd start a fire, the plugs were so old fashioned. This would be a great way to reuse them! The top is just a solar lamp.
Thoughts to my youngest son these days. Wonder how he's turned out, what he looks like. Four and a half years away can change a person so much! Praying the Navy is caring for him, and that he is happy. Hoping he's found someone that loves him as much as we do.💖
Tonight is a Mexican feast. Well spanish rice, and bean & cheese burritos. I might make some homemade tortilla chips and put cheese, black olives, diced tomatoes, and sour cream with some refried beans in a small bowl.
Welcome Kayne! You sound very crafty🤗💖! I too love to send out Christmas cards, and play with paper. I don't make cards, but I correspond with 15+ pen pals so I like to create stationery and envelopes. I didn't use scissors enough as a child, so cutting up a good quality paper magazine, well it makes me happy.🙃😁. Then using glue, I make plain paper, and business size envelopes all pretty.
Know you don't have to answer every one of us, we understand it can be overwhelming. Think of this place as a family run diner, and sit for a spell with a cuppa.🤗

Standing in line at DMV. There's something oddly comforting and normal about doing so. They were closed for so long during the pandemic.
I hope everyone stays cool today. We are hot for us, 90s, but I know many of you are much warmer.

DH home from cricket and really appreciated his Tandoori chicken.
We have one piece left to fight over for lunch tomorrow.
My friend G had to drive for 8 hours to see her granddaughter! Now the other grandmother also has covid! They have been meeting outside. She is thinking of stopping overnight on the way home, because it was all a bit exhausting at 74. I know I could never do that.
The floors in my son's living room and family room are finished! Underfloor heating.Hooray!

I hope I didn't leave the impression that I was opposed to people staying current on the news. I stay away from the news because it raises my anxiety level. I learned years ago to take inventory of what I find disturbing and seek ways that I can change things to be less disturbed. If you love the news, you should watch and listen and if it's upsetting perhaps you should avoid it like I do.

Floors are beautiful! Looks like the place is coming along nicely. Probably not soon enough though.👍🏼💖

Rebecca - It's overrun by a month already, plus very overbudget. They have to move out of their rented apartment on the 4th and are coming to us for two nights. Then off to her parents for a week. Then they are just going to move back in, finished or not!
Stress!

Rebecca ~ I'm not sure if you had already changed to lamps to outside decos or not. Anyway, they sure looked good.
Heather ~ Nice floors! The house will be beautiful when it is finished.
Evie ~ Enjoy your holiday. Four years was a long time not to see your son.
Lanette ~ Your chickie stories are so interesting.
Reading but no notes taken!
