Evelyn – You know, I don’t think Vince mentioned that we could watch PJ. When I mentioned it to him, he had already suggested the next weekend to her. But she still hasn’t gotten back to us about it
Debbie – do you mean to tell me that that guy only took 3 more? If I’d been there, it would have been more like 12.
Tracey – congrats to you and yours. What an ordeal they’ve gone thru, but it’ll all be worth it.
Allie – oh how I hope you’re wrong!
Lisa – yea for the “all clear”
Evie – Happy Birthday

1. Take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry. I am working on helping my son through this tough time by being in contact with his case worker and tracking his location.
2. Adopt a growth mindset. Change “I can’t” into “I can’t…yet”. I try to never use those words. I follow Yoda’s ‘Do or not, there is no try”
3. Be willing to ask for help when you need it. I will. My back hurts today so will easily ask for help when I need it.
4. Find something to look forward to today. Missed posting this yesterday. So today I am looking forward to my therapy session.
5. Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time. Will do!
6. Pause, breathe, and feel your feet firmly on the ground. Will meditate today to help me do this.
7. Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy. I really need to do this today. Did not do this. Had a bad day all around yesterday.
8. Avoid saying “must” or “should” to yourself today. I will try.
9. Put a problem in perspective by seeing the bigger picture. Trying to see my son’s decisions through his eyes.
10. Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them. I did not do this.
11. Look for something positive in a difficult situation. My son is bonding with his uncle and grandmother.
12. Write you worries down and save them for a specific “worry time”. I will try to remember to do this. Write them in my journal.
13. Challenge negative thoughts. Find an alternative interpretation. I worked on this. I also learned a breathing technique to help.
14. Get outside and move to help clear your head. I do this every day, but the triple digit heat is preventing it.
15. Set yourself an achievable goal and take the first step. I have to think about this.
16. Find fun ways to distract yourself from unhelpful thoughts. Controlled breathing helped here.
17. Use one of your strengths to overcome a challenge today. I use tenacity often so expect to use it here.
18. Let go of the small stuff and focus on the things that matter. I will try!
19. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. I need to really remember this!
20. When things go wrong, pause and be kind to yourself. I will definitely try.
21. Identify what helped you get through a tough time in your life. Therapy, someone to talk to, long walks alone all help me through tough times, medication as well.
23. Remember that all feelings and situations pass in time. I won’t dwell on things or situations that happen causing me bad feelings.
24. Choose to see something good about what has gone wrong. My son has admitted his situation is his own fault.25. Notice when you are being judge mental and be kind instead.
26. Catch yourself over-reacting and take a deep breath.
27. Write down 3 things you are grateful for (even if today was hard).
28. Think about what you can learn about a recent problem.
29. Be a realistic optimist. Focus on what could go right.,
30. Reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague for support.
31. Remember we all struggle at times. It’s part of being human.

MFP Accountability Post for July 24, 2023
Debbie in CA ……. -.6 lbs……. 22 lbs to goal
Lanette SW WA ……. - .5 lbs……. 6.5 lbs to goal. Based on my stats a year ago, when I was in better shape, I also have a goal to lose 2 inches from my hips.

We were pretty knackered after the kids left. My son turned up with his laptop at lunchtime and installed himself in DH's study. Then Bea came over after Art. We weren't expecting them, so I had to conjure up a gluten free meal for my son. Glad to help, yes, really, but it was extra stress, and my cleaner, Gill, valiantly cleaned around us!
Edie had a wonderful time, chatting away about Life and everything. She loves Jacqueline Wilson books which deal with divorce, illness, disability, drunken father's etc. And they don't all have happy endings. I said I would lend her my childhood copy of Little Women, by far my favourite book. I adore listening to her. She always asks about DH's adoption. We also talked about orphanages, and the Victorian attitudes to children. All while painting boxes!
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx6 -
Lanette I don't know exactly how to blend this in, but here's where I am at.
The sister challenge was thirty-nine days, ending today. I went from 168 to 162, so lost six pounds. Yay! I wanted to hit 159 but had some setbacks. Still, I'm almost there.
The goal for this week is maintenance. I don't know how I'm going to balance my carefully crafted diet of protein and fiber with family meals. I usually eat at two and they eat at five thirty. Plus my dad's birthday cake is another
challenge. But I have a headache now so everything feels impossible. Teeny tiny portions might be the trick. And I have to insist on my exercise time, even if it feels a bit rude.

6 dozen filled and in the freezer to chill for an hour before heading to church.
First potluck I have been to in a long time
Four flavors to choose from- lemon, mango, pineapple and chocolate.
Also made a gallon of unsweetened iced tea. Usually they have water or sweet drinks(lemonade, punch, sweet tea)
Will bake salmon tonight-was going to last night but son went out with his friends from elementary school(LOVED hearing the four boys in the room laughing again. One is on leave from the Navy after being stationed in Japan.Known these boys since son was in kindergarten or first grade.) and dh ate at his mom's.
Will make rice(dh has to have his Japanese sticky rice) and some veggies- tons of fruit to choose from- cherries, peaches, grapes, melon, tangerines, bananas and apples.
Having my tea now before getting dressed. Glad I got up when I did so I am not rushed.

Banana cream, coconut cream, cinnamon, pumpkin, blueberry would be good flavors. Out of those flavors, I’m a chocolate chooser.
THANK YOU!!! Now I want to make them again. Coconut cream and banana cream would go over well at the potluck. Not sure when the next potluck will be- will see what fruit is in season then. Pumpkin would be good around Thanksgiving.

I want some
Me too!
They are easy to make-just does give your arm a really good work out as you beat in each of four eggs.
Dough is just water, butter, flour, salt and eggs.(1/2 cup butter, 1 cup flour and 4 eggs)
Filling is cool whip(store brand) and then what ever else you want to mix in or just use the cool whip.
One batch made 6 doz small, bite size puffs. They freeze really well so you can bag them up in 1 doz or what ever batches to have a treat when you want them. You can freeze them before or after filling them.

Evie - happy belated Birthday.Lovely flowers. Interesting about Cardone - I agree, I get rid of/ block negativity whenever and wherever I can. Like Lisa - don't watch local or network news, get the weather report from the internet and local news from the online newspaper - even that isn't worth reading very often so I check the obits, lol. Best part - it's all free.
Have a fabulous Monday!

I would so LOVE to block the biggest portion of negativity in my life- Not sure how to do that when it is DH that is nothing but negativity 24/7. He finds something negative in every part of his day, any conversation, etc. It is getting harder and harder to be around it.

Ginny--Your "spell" sounds scary. Glad you are home and resting.
Rebecca--Great news about son's post.
Tracey--Great news about the baby. Saying prayers for all to go well.
Lisa ETC--Great news on the pathology reports.
Barbie--Like you we do not watch news or read the paper. I figure I have no control and no reason to get upset about something I can not change.
Had a nice weekend. Cleaned house and went to church. Otherwise didn't do much. Have a heat wave starting today for the next week. High 90's, so glad I am inside most the day.

who is off to you-know-where
He was a visitor so don't think he wanted to take too many
I need to figure out calorie wise for each- it can't be too much.
for 72 puffs, there is 1 cup flour, 1/2cup butter and 4 eggs.
They are very small so only a teaspoon of filling in each one.
The pineapple was fresh pineapple that I cooked down with just a little pineapple juice
The mango was fresh mango just pureed, nothing added except the cool whip.
I used the Rich's brand. I think it is 30cal per Tablespoon(need to double check that.
EDIT- calculated it out- only 38 calories for the puff, 13 calories for 1Tablespoon of cool whip.
They do not hold a full tablespoon of filling.
So about 50 calories each.4 -

Annie - WOW, well done!! What an inspiration. I wouldn't be surprised, considering all of the exercise you've been doing, that you've put on a lot of muscle. I think I read recently you said your pants were getting loose - hope I can do half that well in 39 days.
Thank you for posting those stats.

Hi Gals,
Evelyn – Cliff bars are the weirdest consistency to me. Just writing this has my gag reflex in high gear LOL
Lisa – I crave sweet almost always. I have never bought those string cheese tubes. But sounds like a good place to start.
Machka – I am done swimming most Sundays about 4pm and Wednesdays about 3:30 But 20 minute drive home and an hour or so to fix dinner, and I have too much time for making bad choices.
Kim and Protein – it’s hard. I do egg, cheese, non-fat plain yogurt, peanut butter, tofu, nuts, beans and other legumes, some fish, meat is a condiment for me. I almost never get enough according to any chart. But once you add in the protein from vegetables I do better. Part of my challenge is how expensive many proteins are. Nuts are crazy expensive, eggs have come down a bit, but not much. I appreciate everyone’s comments.
I do have a recipe for seasoned roasted garbanzo beans that are a snack, I’ll see if I have everything to try those.
In the states when you turn 65 you are eligible for health care from the government (instead of private companies which either you buy as an individual or your employer funds some or all of the costs from the private health insurance company) it is called Medicare. But like so much of health care issues in the USA there are 3 parts with sub parts and different providers, different costs, and it is beyond confusing. I went to a seminar on it this weekend. And think I have figured out what I want, it is the same as I have now but with free eye exams, and a couple of hundred dollars for glasses every 2 years. The insurance I have right now I have bought as an individual but is not available after I turn 65 so for exactly the same it goes up an additional $119.90 a month! Not exactly good news. I was hoping for more money I would get something I could use. Granted I will get eye exams and glasses, but I got that done the end of last year and spend $380, so less than 4 months worth of the increase…..
Debbie – the cream puffs look fabulous! If Pip ever needs a backup I’m close too and will be happy to taste test!!! I could have a potluck for you, DH, Pip and Kirby so we can help with the taste testing. However my dog is other dog aggressive so no pup family members could come.
Allie – sorry to hear you got Covid, take care it is hard but stay home until after you test negative which took me 10 days.
Annie – exercise time is not rude. You are taking care of you so you can take care of the parents! If anything happened to you your sister would have to take it on full time – hello ----bet she doesn’t want that!
