M – about the gun in the office, Vince can just grab it if some child (older) tries to push into the house.
Barbara – I am seriously considering switching. But I wouldn’t do it until June when my Silver & Fit expires. I could probably do it now, but this is the government and what can be messed up will be. The only thing that I wish they had was an indoor walking track, but I can probably work around that by walking around the gym. I do like the fact that all ages of people go there, I don’t feel like “that old lady”
M – happy you got to visit with your family. You should have shared this with us sooner. How wonderful for you!
Vicki – in case I didn’t say it...happy anniversary. I’ve been looking for Crocs. But, of course, this isn’t the season for them. When summer starts up next year (can’t come too soon for me, that’s for sure) I’ll get some more. The ones I’ve found aren’t like what I want
Carol GA – (((HUGS))) I remember how hard it was to see MIL in that condition
No work tomorrow but I have to go for the blood test. The plan is to go to the gym and, depending on how I feel, either do some HIIT or just walking on the treadmill.
Heather – glad you are feeling better
Ginny – in case I didn’t say it...happy birthday
Kylia – I know that a lot of companies require you to take the two weeks of vacation. This has to do with the fact that if a person was embezzling, it would show up (probably). But people don’t want to
barbie – how many steps do you usually get in when you take your dogs for a 2-hour walk
Annie – happy birthday to your mom. And you remember to breathe!!!
Made more protein pancakes. Now have a load of laundry in the dryer. I needed to change the bedspread in our back bedroom from the summer bedspread to the winter one, so I decided I’d better wash the sheets, too Think I'll go out for my walk in a few

Oops my post to Lanette seems to have posted twice. Strange.
Well today husband has to make some copies at the library for a solo board game he's organizing on his gaming table. He asked me if I wished a Rueben sandwich from Arby's. The bread they use is a swirl rye bread, really yummy. Plus just the right amount of sauerkraut, corned beef, and dressing.👍🏼💖
Still need to write my pen pals. Its a hobby, but I definitely have to be in the right mood, and want to write.
Husband has started going again to the gym. He waits until 6:30 am to drive in, and by then there is enough light. 6:30 am is a bit early for me to want to do anything. I did wake up at 7:00 am, took a nice shower, gave myself a coconut oil massage from toes to nose. Its amazing how much my skin drinks it all in. I put a fluffy towel on my bed, and massage in and lie there like The Queen of Sheba waiting for the oil to soak in.😂.
Enjoy the day all!

Its been a day...went to the drs this morning and she gave cortisone shots in each hip. That was an experience..
Then came home and picked up Alfie and we went to see Doris and visited for a bit and that was fun..
Stopped at the garage and had them take off my plates because its a hop skip and a jump from my place,so put a plate in the window on the ride home and went up to Carolyn's and left the 2nd set of keys and signed the bill of sale.. so the car is Dianes now..
Carolyn ( who is Dianes mom) will drop me off at the dealership tomorrow morning.
Right now im tired..2 -
Carol--It is so hard to see our love ones like this. Sending prayers and hugs that you find the right place for him. He is lucky to have you and DH looking out for him.
Machka--So happy for you that you got to visit family and that things are settled and you can breathe and make plans.
Not a lot going on here, just working.

Saw pulmonologist this morning. Lots of breathing tests and I did OK until I had to do the 6 minute walk. Then my oxygen sats went down to 86. Normal is 95 - 100. He and I had a good talk. If I can arrange transportation he is is favor of doing the clinical study. If not, then he wants me to start on methotrexate.
The tests also showed that my lungs are still inflamed and he has ordered a CT scan. See him again in 3 months. In the meantime I am to start doing short 2 minute walks and work up.
Machka - glad you had a good trip.
Allie - enjoy the new car.
Pip - congrats on the run.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA

Last vet visit, I think he was 5.4 kg (12 lbs). He's at the top end of the normal range for his size.
He's not overly big and I've thought of him as a small cat, until I met my mother's cat and aunt & uncle's cat this past month. Their cats are smaller!
But he's got quite a noticeable primordial pouch and longish fur on his stomach, so when he lies down, he can look bigger. He kind of "spills" everywhere.

1. Make a list of new things you want to do this month.
I have a massive list of things to do. Always. I'm never bored.
In November, however, we're organising a cycling event mid-month, and then there's another one right at the beginning of December.
My garden needs mid-spring work.
I need more mid-spring exercise.
Lots of things!!
2. Respond to a difficult situation in a different way.
I try things ... and then I go to Google to find different things to try.
3. Get outside and observe the changes in nature around you.
I am outside whenever I can. Love nature! And one really nice thing about returning to Tasmania is that we're going into summer.
4. Sign up to join a new course, activity, or online community.
How about I just finish the course I started some time ago.
5. Change your normal routine today and notice how you feel.
My November 5th didn't exist. How's that for a changed routine!
6. Try out a new way of being physically active.
Today, my physical activity was standing in line and walking.
7. Be creative. Cook, draw, write, paint, make or inspire.
Yesterday wasn't a particularly creative day although, in the evening, I did resume work on a colouring that I had nearly finished before we left.
8. Plan a new idea or activity you want to try out this year.
I have a list!!
But today, I might unpack.
9. When you feel you can’t do something, add the word ‘yet’.
10. Be curious, learn about a new topic or an inspiring idea.11. Choose a different route and see what you notice on the way.
12. Find out something new about someone you care about.
23. Do something playful outdoors - walk, run, explore, relax.
24. Find a new way to help or support a cause you care about.
25. Build on new ideas by thinking “yes, and what if…”
26. Look at life at someone else’s eyes and see their perspective.
27. Try a new way to practice self-care and be kind to yourself.
28. Connect with someone from a different generation.
29. Broaden your perspective: read a different paper, magazine, or site.
30. Make a meal using a recipe or ingredient you haven’t used before.
31. Learn a new skill from a friend or share one of yours with them.
32. Find a new way to tell someone you appreciate them.
33. Set aside a time to pursue an activity your love.
34. Share with a friend something useful you learned recently.
35. Use one of your strengths in a new and creative way.
36. Try out a different radio station or new TV show.
37. Join a friend doing a hobby and find out why they love it.
38. Discover your creative side. Design a friendly greeting card.
39. Enjoy new music today. Play, sing, dance or listen.
40. Look for new reasons to be hopeful, even in tough times.

Speaking of which, there's a new project on my list... when I hung the living room clock back on the wall after I moved the clock back an hour, I must have missed the hanger--it fell as soon as I turned away from it and busted into its pieces parts. It was a $5 garage sale buy years ago, not valuable at all, so not exactly a tragedy. However, the clock face and mechanism came through unscathed, so I'm going to see if I can make something out of clay to house them. Should be interesting.
Later, y'all...

We went to Goodwill today and bought a clock- one that Dh has always wanted but would never pay the price-
https://www.amazon.com/Rhythm-Clocks-Peaceful-Cosmos-Motion/dp/B00TUWZT4G/ref=sr_1_22?crid=3R7WHEOF0T9YW&keywords=rhythm+clocks+motion+and+musical-small+world&qid=1699410318&s=home-garden&sprefix=rhythm+clocks+motion+and+musical-small+world,garden,149&sr=1-22&ufe=app_do:amzn1.fos.ac2169a1-b668-44b9-8bd0-5ec63b24bcb5&th=1
Got it for $9.99
ours has a black face instead of blue.
The tone of the music is very pretty-30 tunes to choose from, including some Christmas ones.
Also got Embossing boards- for making cards- 9 of them for $6.99. Will be fun to try making things with them4 -
hi gals....
Lisa - I have a clock that was a horizontal slice of a tree all cleaned up and then oiled and a hole drilled for the clock mechanism and the numbers glued in place I really love it... I am sure you can make something personal in clay.
thinking of everyone.

We have a clock like that too- not sure where it is now- in a closet I guess- too many clocks1 -
Hi Gals,
So I decided to make a multi-bean soup; because I had accumulated small amounts of a bunch of different beans. So I soaked them overnight as you would, then cooked them in the crockpot (I don’t have any of the new pots/fryers) and cooked them and cooked them…LOL many of these dried beans I had owned for many years. Finally about 30 hours of cooking the beans are soft and wonderful! I seasoned this with tomatoes, onion, garlic, smoked paprika, salt and pepper – based on a recommendation from a friend I added a can of refried beans – I have the most beautiful creamy bean soup. I’m serving it to both a friend tonight and to the family I am cooking a meal for with cornmeal muffins.
So I liked my soup, my friend liked it so much she took a serving home, I shared it with another friend who loved it - but the family I am cooking for gave it a zero. They hated it, it was ugly. I am not sure they even tried it.
Allie – I was trying to remember and I got my shingles shots last year or the year before, and I had to get 2 about 4-6 months apart – so if you only got one, you should ask your doc about that.
Lisa – is it easier to be just 4 hours apart in time zones with your daughter or not, as I recall you guys talked while one of you were exercising(?)
I decided to take a serious look at my time over a week, to figure out why I so feel like I have so little me time – and this list explains it, because I forgot to add grocery shopping, any other errands, catching up with you…. I’m putting it in a spoiler because otherwise this is to darn long.7 days = 168 hours
Sleep 8 hours a day + Getting ready for bed (pj, teeth, taking levi out) 30 minutes a day + getting ready for the day (clothes, teeth, taking levi out) 30 minutes a day = 9hours a day x 7 = 63 hours a week
Meals, prep + eating+ clean up for me and Levi = 2 hours a day x 7 = 14 hours a week
Swim (change pack clothes, drive, swim, shower, change, drive home) 3 hours a day x2 days a week = 6 hours a week
Counseling (drive, appointment, drive) = 2 hours a week
Walk Levi every morning 1.5 hours a day x 6 = 9 hours a week
Work 10 hours 5 days a week and 6.5 hours 2 days a week = 63 hours a week
Care/visit/driving mom around 5 hours a week
Clean house and do laundry 3 hours a week
Pay bills, deal with the “business” of 2 households 2 hours a week
Committed hours a week = 167
Leaves me with 1 hour a week to do something with a friend, write personal emails, phone calls, read, play with the dog….. Which suddenly explains why I am constantly behind on something!!!!
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

The Trip - Part 1Roughly about 3 months ago, things fell into place to allow us to leave Tasmania sometime. About the same time, a work friend of mine mentioned that he and his wife were planning their first trip to Europe since COVID to see her parents and do a bit of travelling. I mentioned what was just an idea at that time ... that we might finally be able to go and see my family.
That set things off.
In a very short period of time, I had a massive list of things to do and was adding to it every day. My work friend loves researching things ... especially things like travel plans ... so he was a great help to me and we reminded each other to check on this or that, suggested options, etc..
My list continued to grow .... and before I knew it, a concrete plan was beginning to form.
It had been 6 years since we had travelled, really travelled, so I was rusty at the whole process AND things have changed with my husband so we couldn't travel like we used to do.
We used to do long-haul flights where we'd be either in transit or waiting in an airport for 30+ hours. Obviously we couldn't do that now, so I had to break the trip up. Not easy when there's a whole Pacific Ocean with not a lot of islands in it ... and when some of the Hawaiian airports weren't taking their usual number of flights because of the fires there.
We also never used to care where our seats were and we could be crammed in anywhere ... but with my husband's situation, I knew we needed extra room and privacy.
There were so many things like that I had to take into consideration.
So that kept me busy this winter.
Plus in the midst of all the travel planning, I applied for a job I was kind of interested in, and ended up getting an interview. I placed a close second for the position, and that was OK with me. It gave me a chance to get my CV etc. up to date.
I had a really busy winter!!
And now, I'm thinking about sleep again.
The Trip - Part 2This trip had certain complications and the first was that we needed to take care of Rhody, our cat.
In fact, I had started planning other aspects of the trip, when I realised that I needed to sort out something for Rhody first, then plan the trip around when he could be cared for.
We found quite a good place and we have been pleased. We emailed a few times, back and forth and were sent a photo of Rhody in about the middle of the time. That contact was good. Rhody wasn't overly happy with it and didn't want to come out much, but he was eating and drinking and healthy. We suspect he probably made use of the outdoor section at night when people weren't around.
We picked him up today and he has been so incredibly happy. He's not an overly cuddly cat, but this is the most cuddly he's ever been!
The Trip - Part 3
With everything in place, my last day of work was Tuesday 3 October.
Wednesday was spent doing all the last minute packing etc.
On Thursday 5 October, we dropped Rhody off at his resort, then returned home to catch a taxi to the airport.
Thursday's flight was a direct flight from Hobart to Auckland, New Zealand where I had booked 2 nights. We've flown to Canada via Auckland before but have only spent a couple hours in the airport each time. This time we actually left the airport! We were toying with the idea of going into the city, but decided to keep things really casual instead.
Near the airport there is a discount shopping area, so we visited that, then later we went to a nearby miniature golf course which was a bit of fun. And we visited a butterfly sanctuary / small zoo which was really nice. I think I might have mentioned these back on October 6.
On Saturday, we had booked a late check-out so we were able to sleep and rest, and then in the evening, we set off on our 13 hour flight to Vancouver. I had booked Premium Economy (used to be called Business Class back in the day when there was "First Class" on planes), so we had 2 nice-sized seats together and little luxuries like real dishes/utensils, hot wash clothes, etc. In the planning and preparation phase, I had purchased good neck pillows, eye masks, headbands, etc. to make ourselves as comfortable as possible, and I think they helped. We both slept reasonably well.
Then it was another taxi closer to where my father was able to pick us up ... and we were there!! It was fantastic to be able to see my parents in person!!
One of the decisions I had made was to stay right in the area where my parents live, but not with my parents. So I rented a 2-bedroom basement suite apartment through Airbnb. That was brilliant. It was so nice to have our own place, the place was wonderful, and the people in the rest of the house were great.
In the past, when we've gone to Canada, we've travelled here and there, but this time, we just wanted to stay put, to reconnect with family in the area, to explore the area, and to rest.
So we didn't have a lot of adventures, but ...
A couple days after we arrived, some family came in from Alberta, so I went to that gathering and reconnected with family I hadn't seen in years as well as family I last saw 6 years ago. Then throughout the month, we spent time with various ones of aunt, uncle, cousins. In the 6 years, two of my cousins had married, so we met their wives, and one couple had a baby ... a little girl who is now almost 3 years old. Lots of catching up.
Friends of ours picked up that we were in Canada, so they came over from Vancouver Island. It was great to get together with them. They are the type of friends where we all get talking like the last time we saw each other was a couple months ago, and hours can pass without us noticing.
Plus we got to know the family in the house where we were staying.
There was lots of walking and cycling, including cycling with my father.
We did go on a river cruise at Harrison Lake - just my husband and me - where we saw huge fish, seals and best of all, bald eagles.
We explored the city and surrounding area, reacquainting ourselves with parts we had seen before and into areas we hadn't gone before.
We ate all sorts of food I can't get in Australia ... thankfully, I appear to have only gained a couple kg, but we were fairly active.
And I took care of several things I couldn't do over the past 6 years.
We were there 4 weeks, and flew out on Canadian Saturday 4 November to Auckland. Going back, I wasn't able to get Premium Economy so I went with Air New Zealand's Skycouch, which is 3 seats along the side in Economy. You pay for 2 seats and for a little bit extra, you get the 3rd seat. They have footrests which come up partway or all the way up, flat, to make a narrow bed. We flew with all the leg rests partway up and kind of sprawled over the 3 seats. In the future, I would try to get Premium Economy (book earlier) but it wasn't too bad. Better than just plain Economy!!
This time, we were in Auckland for about 24 hours and spent most of it in the hotel sleeping.
I know they say jet lag is worse going east (to Canada), but I feel it more going west (to Australia).
And yesterday, we came home!
I will start posting a few photos soonish.
I had put a lot of thought and planning into how to make the trip good for my husband, and I was very glad I did. We had flown to the mainland a few months ago for a short trip, and that helped me determine what changes I might need to make. Then I flew to Brisbane for work, and again, that helped.
Fortunately, we have a direct flight between Hobart and Auckland just now. It's 3.5 hours, so not bad. I chose seats with a little extra leg room. For the long haul portion, I went with Premium Economy on the way there and the Skycouch on the way back so that we could have more room. Those were good decisions.
Staying in one location was another good decision because we could form a routine.
I did have to pace ourselves because at times, all the get-togethers were a bit overwhelming for him. So there were a few days where we didn't do much of anything. I think there was one day where we didn't leave our apartment at all ... I didn't even get out of pjs. In the past, we would have done a lot more ... but the past is gone and this was good. It was a really nice time.
