Great seeing all the pictures and posts from everyone.
As expected, another holiday ruined by dh and mil. Add to that drama from both sisters. Both upset with mom. (older sister called talked an hour then mom THOUGHT she had hung up and started complaining about how late and how long sister talks- I heard her say something but by the time I got mom to hear/understand, the damage was done- sister text her, feeling very hurt. Younger sister was supposed to come out yesterday to FINALLY pick up her dog that she left with mom and dad for at least 4-5 YRS!!. She never showed up before I left yesterday so no idea if she went out or not.
Dh got into it with his mom Christmas Eve and Morning- worse than usual. I don't understand why he just sits and takes it. I tried to message him while I was up there cooking and his comments were "Leave me alone" "Don't talk to me".
It was nice having son and girlfriend there at mom's with me.
I didn't really visit with mom much- she was at church until 9pm Sunday night. I had dinner- oyster stew and shrimp ready for her. At first she said she wasn't hungry but did try and enjoy the soup(served the kids the potato soup before adding the oysters). Then older sister called as we were finishing up eating-
I cooked all morning- had everything ready by 12:55- to eat at 1. Sister knew what time, she didn't call.
We ate, I cleaned up and headed home. Son did some chores for mom like bringing in the firewood and spreading chips around the chicken yard.
Got home, went straight to MIL's-more arguing, more on dh 's part- he was still fueled up from the morning- still was this morning.
So, came back from her place, he went straight to his room then went to bed. All the gifts still under the tree. Kids opened their gifts then girlfriend went home, son went to bed beings he had to work early this morning.
As far as I know, dh's birthday gifts from me are also still unopened since 11/27
He needs to find a way to not let some of this bother him so much and to let things go- he will end up having a stroke or driving off a cliff is what he tells me all the time. She says all these things, gets him so worked up then the next time, acts like she did nothing wrong and she is the victim that he is the one that starts it. He doesn't let anything go- It is really a toxic place to be.
I told him to go away for a week, I will take care of her(won't be to the degree he does) but of course he won't do that-will just yell and cuss about it and keep going back.
Sorry- another vent from me- SO tired of ruined holidays

Thanks for sharing all the pictures and Christmas events. We had a very nice Christmas eve at DOS and their kids and grandkids, which is half of our family. Not planning much with the rest as they are dealing with one thing or another. Yesterday we were going to Sioux City to have Christmas with our YD and Ms and only made it about 60 miles of the 180. It started snowing and then they started closing roads so we turned around and came home. Good thing as so far we ending up with 6-7 inches of snow and it is cold. Sounds like we can get freezing rain the next couple days.
Not sure why I am feeling off, been praying about it.
DSIL is doing better, off the vent and was to go home today. This morning they said they are concerned about her kidneys so running tests. Prayers she can go home tomorrow.

See's chocolates are the best. I have a hard time but when I do get a box, I limit it it to 2 a day. I am great until I open the box....
Cousin didn't come by. Said he was planning on stopping to see mom today(and I came home yesterday)
With mom such a short time so no real time to visit. I will go back up in a few weeks when things calm down and have a nice visit with her.

DD and I had a good Christmas. It was quiet, we texted with family and gave all the critters Christmas treats. Started a new Christmas jigsaw puzzle.
Lanette - we tried turkey slices in the air fryer yesterday. They were delicous. We also did seasoned green beans in the fryer. We are still learning as we go but so far are quite happy with it. We have a built in oven that is possessed. Part of the reason for the air fryer. The oven suddenly decides it is too hot and then turns itself off in the middle of cooking something or the timer goes off partway through the cooking time. We had it checked out and the computer needs replaced which costs nearly as much as a new oven.
Beth - so sorry about your mom. Remember to take care of you too.

The problem with my oven is can't see the temp when I am trying to set it unless it is just the perfect lighting in the room and even that is getting worse. I have a little thermometer that I put in there now but then have to wait for it to preheat, see how close I am, and then adjust it.
DH said the part isn't available or other times he says it is too expensive for the age of the stove-makes comments about just spending the $1800 and replacing the whole thing. It is a specific size so only a few options from what he said. I will deal with it a bit longer but not too much more. The light went out inside too- that isn't that big of a deal.
LOVE our air fryer and use it almost daily. Best purchase ever. The first one was a gift from dh- sat in the box for months after I got it(Got a pressure cooker same time, that was in the box a year before I tried it-LOVE it too). We have since replaced/upgraded the air fryer several times. The only appliance dh actually will use, other than warming up something very rarely in the microwave.

Allie - my DS, cousin and a friend who is an MD are all currently using Ozempic for weight loss. It is a diabetic drug that works by slowing the transit of food through the stomach thereby making you feel full longer. It also interfers with leptin and ghrelin, the hormones that regulate appetite so that you don't want to eat as much. In order for your insurance to pay anything you must have an A1c that is at least at prediabetic level. Even with that the co-pay is usually very high. My cousin told me she is paying $700 per month co-pay and she is on Medicare with a supplement. You start with a small dose and increase each time you reach a plateau and quit losing. To keep the weight off after you reach your goal you must take it for the rest of your life. My MD friend told me she was hoping she could cut down to taking it one week per month when she met her goal and maintain with that but she is not sure it will work. My son had to go off the drug for a short while and said his apppetite came roaring back ten fold. There have also been reports that if you need surgery it complicates aneasthesia.
Sorry for the book. I had seriously considered this, especially after my son started but due to cost and unknown long term effects have decided against it.

Thanks Sue,yes you have to have high BP which I do and a VMI over 30 mine is 35 I think .. next time I go to the Dr I'll ask about this..
My dopey neighbor keeps his door open to the hallway and plays his stereo loud,I can hear it from my bedroom.. he is really creepy,so i just stay in my place.
Gosh Debbie I don't know how you put up with all you do daily..the stress level for you and your husband is unbearable, and the way he treats you is just rotten..I mean Tom was bad,but lordy your husband is just wicked.
Please do what you can to take care of you. We only go around this ol world once ..make it count !!4 -
Machka-please keep an eye on breathing. Do you have an odometer to check oxygen levels? People have issues with levels going below 90% and not knowing it-you need those deep breaths.
Sorry for those who had less than peaceful Christmases. Try to focus on the one that did go right. So Debbie, for instance, Son and girlfriend went with you for visit-that is a positive so the whole thing wasn't ruined-focus on the good.
Vicki-here is hoping DSIL does get to go home and kidneys are ok.
Had good visit with Step son and family. Didn't mention not being able to get everyone together-I just enjoyed the time I was with them. Grand sons are growing like weeds. They are all doing very well in school-especially the eldest.
Very tired today, again. Hope the fatigue lessens in the coming day. May take Friday off so I can get 5 days off to rest, but will need to see. For now-off to clean some berries so they re easy to eat and cut up some veggies and get lunch ready for tomorrow.

Ginny, the UTIs always just took me down physically, with fatigue being the worst of all. Hope the antibiotic helps soon.
Machka, I'm with Ginny - the inability to draw a deep breath is indeed worrying when covid is the diagnosis.

Ladies - is it just me or do all of us gals in this group have exceptionally good looking spouses, partners, kids, grandkids and other family members including dogs, cats, chickens, horses, goats and honeybees?
Carol - beautiful family, what nice pictures. I remember when your grands were littles! Don't blame you for wanting to spoil them a little while you are still here and able.
Sue - thanks for the air fryer report. Today I finished putting away Christmas decorations and just cleaning up and organizing a bit. Started a pile for the thrift store next week which will include items from the kitchen cupboards that are jammed with items I'll never use. Got to make room for the air fryer then I'll give it a whirl.
Heather - beautiful dinner prepared by your DH. He's a man of many talents. You keep him young.
Barbara - "Mrs. Brown's Boys" is, well, kind of bawdy, lol. I see there are a few episodes on YouTube.
Machka - about your breathing - is there a health center close by where you could get your O2 checked? Luckily I had a pulse oximeter in the house I gotten to check up on DH when I had Covid. I still use it these days - sometimes it feels to me like my pulse is racing a little and I clip it onto my finger to check. So far, no big deal and I'm reminded to cut back on coffee.
Allie - regarding that Ozempic and similar weight loss injections - I saw a video from a pharmacist a while back - there was a study that a percentage of folks taking it lost a lot of muscle and it weakened their bones as well, probably from lack of protein and nutritious food since they didn't have an appetite. He also mentioned the weight gain after quitting. My next door neighbor has been on Ozempic for a couple months now for weight loss, I talked to her a few weeks ago and she'd lost 30 pounds pretty quickly. I know she wants to be more active and she has a lot to lose.
Debbie - I love the idea of your DH taking a week off and you "taking care" of MIL!
All this talk about See's candies - I just broke down and ordered myself a little box.

Rosemarie - I forgot to mention, what a good idea fixing a room just like you want it, changing the decor, getting some new furniture. It all sounds wonderful.

Vicki - glad SIL is doing better and hope she can come home w/o kidney worries. Don't blame you for not wanting to chance that snowstorm - be careful with that freezing rain.
Lisa - you were right about Walmart being crowded. I was in there at 7:30 am. It wasn't packed by any means but the "50% Off" aisles were getting cleaned out quickly. Glad to hear Corey is making headway on YOUR sunroom.
Katiebug - while I was at Walmart, I did an experiment - I smiled at everyone and said "good morning" or made a pleasant comment. 100% of the gals either smiled, chatted a second, or at least acknowledged that I'd spoken. The guys..... zero! I must have put on my cloak of invisibility. The only one that talked was ahead of me in line and he works there so I see him all the time. Conclusion - we gals would have rushed to your aid when you fell and hit your head. Glad it didn't turn out to be serious.

Right now, I would be making plans for next year. I would start putting away a bit of money.
Then, as next Christmas approaches, I'd book 2 or 3 nights (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day) into a ... cabin in the woods, hotel in the city, shack by the beach ... or whatever appeals most to you.
Christmas Eve ... pack a bag and disappear for 3 days.
We did something very much like that a number of years ago. After a few less than ideal Christmases with members of my husband's family, we booked a place at a beach on the other side of the island for the next Christmas for ourselves. Much, much better!!

Christmas is all put away. It was fun while it lasted, until next year. I completed the storage puzzle and everything is back into the huge LEGO box I acquired from eldest son a couple years ago when he bought a huge $200 set of something!
This is just storage under our stairs. Need to clean now.
Hugs to all ladies that endured stressful Christmases. You have survived and soon it will be the new year! Find the good. Do not let the negativity of your environment get a hold on you. Do not give it rent in your heart and mind.💖. We care about you, and want to see you shine.

I'm interested that, in the US, you seem to start decorating way before us, and take them down much earlier. Here, most people leave them up until 12th Night. It's unlucky to leave them up after that.
Personally, I think they look a bit tawdry after New Year, but I usually can't be bothered to take them down.
I had a pleasant shock this morning. I have a savings account that pays money into my bank account monthly. It is a part of my 'income', which is tiny. Interest rates went up hugely this autumn, along with inflation, so when renewal came around, the rates were way higher than before. I opted for two years fixed. This morning was my first month on the hew rate. I could hardly believe the difference, though I should have realised! I did some calculations, just to check it was right! It will make a huge difference to my own personal income and help me a lot. My state pension goes into the joint account for bills and food, so this is personal money. Wish I'd fixed the rate for longer, because inflation and rates are now falling, but two years is better than one! I also have a minute teacher's pension for my personal spending. I only worked part-time,and most of that wasn't pension eligible. So, I will be able to have my hair trimmed!

It always strikes me as a little sad when decorations disappear and Christmas music stops and everything returns to "normal" the day after Christmas.
I celebrate right to the Epiphany ... and most of the decorations stay up till Australia Day or sometimes into February. This year, I'm aiming to take them down the weekend before the Australia Day weekend. Might happen. Might not.
But then ... I like a lot about Christmas. Even a COVID Christmas like this one.
I spent a while outside this afternoon. Hung my laundry up in the sun, then sat out and read a while. It was warm and sunny and humid and the wind was blowing in from the ocean which I could see from my vantage point. Pretty fresh air ... low pollution!
I am breathing better today although my sense of smell is greatly diminished.

Heather: We had a wonderful time. It’s funny you should say that about the glasses. My SiL made a similar comment. The younger folk don’t wear them all the time, but they had been opening gifts and needed them for reading instructions etc.
Yesterday, the weather was fabulous. The Blackrock path is mostly flat, and many others were also enjoying the brief window of calm sunshine. The weather closed in after lunch, although when we got home it was still fine where we live, which was good as we had hung washing out before we left in the morning. I only walked the first km of the path as my knee was grumbling.
