I have been on this weight loss journey since January 2023. πI wouldn't be where I am today without this group (along with a couple other challenges I am in); I am so thankful for their support and accountability. π

Jan 2: 163.8 π£ π π₯ π¦ Met my New Year's goal - did a 10K walk yesterday AM. Was ravenous all day, but managed to stay under my calorie limit by 5 calories. I would say a successful day. I'm still .2 pounds away from my lowwest weight (just before Christmas).
Jan 3: 162.8 π π£ π π₯ π¦ Funny thing happened to yesterday. Greg, Monty and I started the Airline Trail today (I am feeling nostalgic so want to do it again, and we started off with a big one day 6.2 miles. When we got back to the car, Greg noticed he didn't have his wallet. Thought he left it on the counter at home. Got home, no wallet, now we think he must have dropped it on the trail as we were walking, so we drove back to the trail at the half way point. Greg went one way - I went the other looking for the wallet, another 3.7 miles and didn't find it. When we got home - Greg remembered he took the truck out yesterday - left it in the center console. LOL! So, my 6.2 walked turned into 9.9, silver linings I guess! Here are some pictures from the walk (the first time).
Jan 4: 162.8 π£ π π₯ π¦
Jan 5 : 163.4 π£ π πͺ π¦ Couldn't sleep, got up, raided the pantry. When I posted last night it triggered me to stop, but a little too late. Today is my rest day. Off to visit my husband's cousin, celebrate Christmas. Will try to get a small walk in this afternoon. Won't be able to weigh everything, but we are bringing lunch with us, so should be able to estimate and log everything.
Jan 6: 162.8 π π₯ Spent yesterday at my husband's eldery cousins house -5 hours in a car, and sitting all day with her - so not much movement yesterday. I did log everything, and used estimates for measuring. I jumped on the treadmill when I got home - got 2 miles in - counting it as my rest day.
Jan 7: 162.8 π£ π π₯ π¦ Just a quiet day at home - hubby was out all day. Finished the book I was reading, waiting for the winter storm to arrive - it came - not as much as expected. Just enough to make it pretty, and for me to get a little strength exercise today shoveling the driveway, but not enough to kill me. Actually looking forward to it. Probably won't get an outside walk today.
Jan 8: 163.6 βΉοΈπ£ π π₯ πͺ Doesn't make sense, but that is what the scale says today - so that's what I am posting.
Jan 9: 163.6 π£ π π₯ πͺ π¦ Had some salty soup (was delicious), so expected the scale to stay the same or go up and it did. Went to Bingo with mom last night - won the door prize ($10). Yahoo. Mom seemed a little down yesterday, hoping all is ok. The arthritis in her hip has been bothering her for years, they give her injections - but the last one didn't really help much. She has her annual appointment with her doctor today - hoping they can figure something out so that she isn't in so much pain everyday.

Jan 12: 162.4 π£ π π₯ π¦ Finally - a drop! Took a beautiful walk on the Airline Trail today. After the snow we had a couple inches of rain; it washed all the snow away - but made for some great waterfalls on the trail; I counted seven.
Jan 13: 162 π£ π π₯ πͺ π¦Woo Hoo! Rainy morning here today, so will get my chores done in the AM, and hopefully get my walk in after the rain ends.
Jan 14: 161.8 π£ π π₯ π¦ Rainy morning yesterday - cleaned and organized my closet - brought two big bags to Goodwill of things that no longer fit. Moved the one size up clothes to the hall closet. I'm kind of in between sizes - the things I am wearing are a little too big - but can' quite fit into the size down. Soon enough! The afternoon was beautiful - we hit the 60 degree mark in January - so we took an afternoon walk.

Jan 18: 161.2 π π£ π π₯ π¦ Bitterly cold yesterday. We did get out for a bit - but only about a mile and a half hike - had to get the rest of my steps in on the treadmill. It's going to be the same today.
Jan 19: 160.6 ππ£ π π₯π¦ Just another quiet day at home yesterday. Looking at some vacation homes in FL to get a way from the cold for a week or two - possibly in February. We would have to bring Monty with us this time, his long time babysitter is no longer available and don't want to leave him in a kennel, she stayed at our home while we were away. To find another one that would do that, and that we trust is nearly impossible. Allyson usually takes care of him when we go on weekend trips - but when we go away during the week she is at work all day so need someone to take him out. The dog situation has made traveling a little more difficult. Don't get me wrong - I love taking him with us - it's just a long ride instead of a plane ticket.

They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is I'm the only one!" That's how I feel today.
Jan 21: 162.2 βΉοΈ Did it to myself, it was just one of those days. Missed every goal. I did get outside for a walk, but it was so cold we just went two miles and I didn't hit the treadmill in the afternoon. I went out last night for a fundraising event for the food bank and started with the snacks - then I continued to binged on the snacks after I got home. Salty gets me every time. Today is a new fresh day.

Hello, Iβm Heidi. Iβm 55, 5β5β and I live in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area.

01.20.24 - 161.9
01.21.24 - 161
01.22.24 - 161.5
Exercise:
1 - Started small stretches (arms above head, side twists) which are going well. The pulling on my
incisions was horrible at first but are less so after a week. I also started doing some modified
bridges in the hopes that my healing abdominal muscles would start strengthening up. I am
walking much better and even walked the entire trip to Costco and pushed the cart. The hubby
still won't let me lift much except the small laundry basket!
2 - I'm getting much more walking in this week and slowly building up my stamina after surgery. I'm stretching more and more now as well. I still haven't gotten true exercise in the form of biking or aerobics but that will come soon (I hope).
3 - I have upped my activity and my steps have increased significantly. Stretching has continued and feeling less restrictive around incisions.

My husband and I have been completely off our game with food since the week of Jan 8 (medical stuff, multiple snow events, etc). I have my act together and am logging food and will have salads with chicken for tonight's dinner. Workout planned as well, though I have been keeping up with workouts despite the bad food choices. Hoping to see a quick reversal with the above numbers -- I am certain a lot of that is sodium as well. Regardless, I'm back to being focused and behaving.

Jan 15: 162.4 π£ π π₯ πͺπ¦ I was over my sodium limit, and it shows. Also used all my calories (usually leave half of my calories earned by exercise). It's temporary.

Jan 22: 161 π£ π π₯ π¦
Jan 23: 161.4 π£ π π₯ π¦ Greg, Monty and I got to Mile Marker 13 on the Airline Trail yesterday. With the 6 miles (extension) at the beginning of the adventure and it being an in-and-out trail, we have gone that's 19 miles one way. We go in and out so have gone 38 miles on the trail (official number is 38.54). We have about 13-14 miles to go. Hoping to finish by the end of January. Here was yesterday's adventure - tough one going through the softer snow - kind of like walking on the beach.

Do you use your calories burned by exercise? I found that I can't use them all - when I do, I gain or stay the same - 50% of them works for me.
Others have suggested figuring out what your calorie range would be to maintain your ideal weight and use that as your daily goal - don't use your exercise calories. I have tried this, it worked (I lost fast) - but since I exercise A LOT , but I was ravenous which caused me to binge so I went back to my 50%. It may work for you.
I know this might sound counterproductive - but are you eating enough? If you don't count your exercise - you definitely need to eat all of your allowed calories. You body may be fighting you because your eating too little.
Have you tried alternating between High and Low calorie days? Calorie cycling is a common way to get through a plateau in dieting. In theory as long as you stay below your weekly calorie limit you should see a loss at the end of the week.
How is your sodium level? If I am even just a tad over my goal, I gain weight.
I hope you don't give up. If you continue to track, eat right, and exercise it will come!

Good morning, @iLive2Walk
I don't know what to believe about weight loss. I see all kinds of comments for CI/CO and IF and Keto and all the rest and every one has fans and every one has detractors. I read the medical sites (WebMD and Mayo Clinic and my health insurance) and they all say the same thing "move more, eat less". Which isn't good advice but at least is simple bad advice.
The weight loss industry rakes in $72 BILLION every year because nothing works.3 -

3 - I can now walk for an hour or so without completely tiring out. I still can't push too much or I am a mess by the end of the day. I can lift @ 35 pounds now!

Hi All! I'm a 46-year-old married mom of five. I started this group in September at 141 pounds (overweight for me at my height) and have lost about 11-12 pounds overall since then. I always gain some weight around Christmas; I love the cookies, truffles, and eggnog etc. I allowed myself to just enjoy those things and slack off some; however, it's time to get back to the routine! My goal for January is to log and weigh every day, and to lose 3 1/2 pounds. I'm setting my goal a tad on the aggressive side because I suspect that some of my gain from the end of December is not only fat but water and such.
Ultimate starting weight 160.0 pounds
January goal: 126.0 pounds
January 1: 129.6 I logged βοΈ
January 2: 128.6
January 3: 128.2 I logged βοΈ
January 4: 127.4 The scale was acting wonky today... it did this last month but settled out and started acting normal again.
January 5: 128.6 I logged βοΈ
January 6: 126.6 I logged βοΈ
January 7: 127.2
January 8: 128.8 I logged βοΈ
January 9: 126.6 I logged βοΈ My weight sure is flopping around a lot, but that's pretty normal when I've been eating a lot and am finding my way back to the routine.
January 10: 126.8 I logged βοΈ
January 11: 126.6
January 12: 126.0 I logged βοΈ Happy to see that the number did not go up... My mother-in-law made one of her delicious meals for us last night, and it included homemade mac & cheese, a huge weakness of mine. I stopped logging at dinner and *may* have had a bit more than my calorie allotment of the mac & cheese. π¬
January 13: 125.2
My original goal was 125, so I guess I should celebrate. It will probably go up again and fluctuate for a while before things settle, so I'm not declaring myself at "goal" or even really at 125 yet. I'm also thinking I'd like to keep going for a couple more pounds. I have two pairs of jeans that I wore pre-baby that I would like to be able to fit into, if possible. I tried them on today, and they were a no go, LOL. I mean, at least I could get the legs on, which is nice, but they are still a little ways off. If I lose a couple more pounds, in addition to maybe being able to fit into my favorite jeans again, it would put me in the middle of my normal BMI as well, so that's nice.
In other news, about a week and a half ago my husband started calorie counting with MFP. He wants to lose 50 pounds. For a long time I have intermittently made simple remarks about how "weight loss is simply math," or "exercise is great for health but weight loss happens in the kitchen," or "no matter what you eat, weight loss is simply calories in calories out." Not because I wanted to influence him to lose weight, but just in conversation. I never said anything about MyFitnessPal. Sometimes my family would just catch me measuring my food, all by myself in a little corner. One morning he made eggs for me, and I started to reach for the butter. He said, "Oh I already buttered your toast." I said, "Oh, I was going to measure it because I'm tracking my food." And he said, "I already measured it." I said, "Oh! How much butter is it?" And he replied, "A little bit." π€£π€£π€£ So this was his idea of "measuring," LOL. Anyway, one day I wake up to find him surrounded by measuring cups and spoons, and he says, "Do we have a food scale?" And come to find out, he had started logging his food with MyFitnessPal. He's lost about 7 pounds already and feeling a lot better. I also love that he now understands my measuring and tracking, and we can discuss it and do it together. I make all our meals, so I've been entering them into the MFP database so that he can log them.
January 14: 127.2
January 15: 126.8 So, I think the 125.2 reading the other day was not accurate. Hubby is weighing himself now, and we are in agreement that our scale sometimes acts wonky and can have a wide margin of error. Today it first read 125.8, but I noticed the right side of it was very close to a crack in the floor. I moved it to the left, and it read 126.8. Then moved it to the middle of the floor, where it's easier to get it flat, and it read 126.8. So, perhaps it dips down a bit if it's close to the crack and reads too low. We are thinking about getting a different scale at some point......
January 16: 127.0
January 17: 127.0 I logged βοΈ I've been reeeeeally busy the last few days!
January 18: 126.2 OK, only 0.2 to get to my goal for the month. Just gotta keep on going. We now have our scale up against the wall, away from the crack in the floor, and I think it's acting normal right now.

The weight loss industry rakes in $72 BILLION every year because nothing works.
@WhiskeyDeltaKilo The weight loss industry makes billions because people want a solution... a quick or easy fix. Truly, weight loss is really just math. Calories in calories out. Any weight loss trend that works (IF, Keto, etc) only works because the person was able to achieve a calorie deficit using that plan (whether or not they were aware of it). Exercise can help, but might not if the person eats those calories right back. Also... you have been exercising every day for several weeks. Some of your weight could be from muscles repairing. Any change or increase in exercise routine can cause some gain, not from fat gain, but from additional water retained to heal the muscles. So you can't necessarily always go by the number on the scale. If you are eating at a calorie deficit, it will go down! You just have to keep doing what you are doing and be patient. Don't give up. Hang in there!! If you have not done so yet, I recommend looking at some of the success stories here on MFP. They can be informational and encouraging.4
