Weight in blue makes me blue because it’s a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because it’s a loss. Weight in black means no change.

01/30-181.2-(Trend Weight 183.0)- I’m planning on taking a friend out of town today if the roads are cleared up. We had snow last night. I’d like to hit another small town nearby (about 40 miles each way) for a particular restaurant. They also have a bakery in that town so maybe I could get her a birthday cupcake or something. Last night was a tough night getting through without bingeing. My son has some creamsicles in his freezer and I had to hold myself back from going down there and getting two of them. One would not have satisfied me as the craving was so intense. The only thing that stopped me was that I like the creamy kind best. I started imagining that the store brand ones were probably like popsicles with the cream inside, not the creamy ones. I can live without popsicles and so I kept that popsicle image in my head until the craving passed. I also had this overwhelming feeling that it didn’t matter what I ate last night since I’m going out of town today anyway and likely blowing it. You know, that all-or-nothing attitude. Then I told myself (again) that just because I am losing the air in one tire tomorrow, doesn’t mean I have to let the air out of the other three. It worked. I’m so glad I made it through. Sometimes I don’t. The scale may be up a bit tomorrow due to the birthday celebration but I will try to stay as close to my macros as possible.

Exercise:
1 - Started small stretches (arms above head, side twists) which are going well. The pulling on my
incisions was horrible at first but are less so after a week. I also started doing some modified
bridges in the hopes that my healing abdominal muscles would start strengthening up. I am
walking much better and even walked the entire trip to Costco and pushed the cart. The hubby
still won't let me lift much except the small laundry basket!
2 - I'm getting much more walking in this week and slowly building up my stamina after surgery. I'm stretching more and more now as well. I still haven't gotten true exercise in the form of biking or aerobics but that will come soon (I hope).
3 - I can now walk for an hour or so without completely tiring out. I still can't push too much or I am a mess by the end of the day. I can lift @ 35 pounds now!

January 2024 Reflection
January was a successful month for me. I got over the December craziness and recommitted to my goal!
I started the year with a 10k walk on January 1 – and then I was feeling nostalgic and decided to complete the Airline Trail again this January. My trip last year as the trigger to my weight loss journey. This time, Greg joined me, and we did it in order and traveled from Portland to the Willimantic River. Last Year I jumped around, depending on how much time I had. We did not add the Colchester Spur, as Greg had already completed with me last year and it wasn’t very exciting. We completed the trail in 15 days, averaging 3.4 miles per day. Last year I completed it in 23 days (although the added spur was a two of those days) and averaged 2.5 miles per day. I’m thinking this will be an annual tradition, but will accomplish in different seasons in the future, so the pictures will be different. I created a presentation of our trip, if anyone would like to see it you can see it here.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-kA6Z93tHmfvGQ_j4QqLUPbPqZoXkZTXPvDgR1W8QyE/edit#slide=id.g2b4a1260093_0_47
I signed up for the 2,024 miles in 2024 again this year. I am tracking it two ways – all steps (this is how I did it last year) and intentional miles. My official goal is all steps – why mess with success, but I am also curious on how many intentional miles I walk per day. I reached the 245 Mile mark on my goal, and I have walked 178 intentional miles.
I tried focusing on all my nutrition goals at the beginning of the month, but it was WAY too hard to work on them all together. So, for now I am trying to add more protein to my diet. I have had some success (and some not so good days), but at least I am looking at it.
I logged my food EVERY day in January, a first for me. I did go over my calorie goal three days this month but the under made up for it by a long shot. I lost 4.2 pounds this month; 68.2 overall, and 19.8 to my goal weight.
I am working on the last book of the Harry Potter Series, reading along with the Hogwarts challenge. One of my favorites. I will start Younger Next Year for Women, my first nonfiction book in years.
I picked up the knitting needles again, made a warm pair of mittens. Now started another pair in my Hogwarts colors (yellow and black – for Hufflepuffs).
We are heading off tomorrow (thus my early reflection), to go to Florida for two weeks to escape the cold. Our best friends moved to Winter Haven a few years back and we rented a house 4.5 miles from them. Looking forward to it tremendously but am a little anxious about staying on track. They are BIG on eating out. Luckily, we will have Monty with us, so can use him as an excuse about going out EVERY night that we are there. Not only is it not healthy for us, but it also gets very expensive!
My February Goals:
• Lose 4 pounds (my goal every month – but with the trip will be happy to lose 2)
• Log 150 intentional miles
• Strength Train 3 days per week
• Stretch routine 1 day per week
• Average 17K steps per day

Hi, this is my first time in this challenge and I'm very happy to be here! I'm 66 YO, 5' 2" and officially overweight (again). Gained back 20 lbs in 2 years. My main goal is to lose the weight and change my habits to a sustainable lifestyle that allows me to eat well and maintain my fitness.
Wk 1 EW: 142.6
Wk 2 EW: 141.4
Wk3 EW: 140.2
Wk4 EW: 139.2
End WT: 139.2
Total Loss: 7.8 lb
Really happy with my result. The big loss was boosted by the "holiday spike", which was what woke me up to what I was doing- ignoring my habits and pretending it was all OK. Most important, I'm eating well and thinking about these changes as permanent patterns that I can maintain for life.
This was the first time I found these challenges ( I am doing 3- short, long and longest) and it's made an enormous difference in my mindset, so thank you all for sharing your stories and your journey with me!
See you tomorrow in February!

4 - I am not as active as I wanted to be. That's okay since I am only two months out from major surgery. I am feeling good though.

01/31-181.6-(Trend Weight 182.9)- Uptick due to the out-of-town yesterday. Today I will zig-zag a lower calorie day and lots of water to help flush it all away. Down 2.2 lbs for this round. Today I await the news from my older friend on her pet scan. They found a mass the size of an orange on her lung recently and have been testing her bones and her brain to see if it has metastasized and to stage her cancer. Her two daughters are with her today and she will find out her options, if any. I’m praying for good news but in the last 3 months she has broken her hip and then fell again and broke her pelvic which is inoperable. She also has many small blood clots in her lungs they’ve been treating for about a year. To sit and speak with her, you wouldn’t even know that anything is wrong, she still seems pretty healthy so I’m just so confused. Please pray for Diana H.
