Good morning from the chilly day breaking here in Arkansas,
Annie - Hang in there, dear heart. Borrow from your sister's strength all that you can while you have her there. I'm sorry you're watching your dad begin the descent into dementia, it can't be easy to live with or to see it happen.
Kim, Barbara, Tracey - Just call me chicken Lisa, too, because I don't watch scary movies either. Ever. Or read horror novels. I spent too much of my childhood in fear to want to feel that way again voluntarily. During my first marriage, my now-ex-husband and my best friend would go watch the horror movies at the cinema while I was in the next theatre over, watching the rom-com or whatever. Grrrf. Shudder just to think of them.
Tracey - I actually picked up the WTForecast app, because it was intriguing. So far, it's been more on the money than the other weather apps I use, and it's funnier, too :
Barbie - Sorry the news on Bessie wasn't good, and hope the tests she's about to undergo don't show anything untoward.
Simone - Well done on the Macchu Picchu challenge! I don't personally do the challenges, because my body and under-brain tend to read "challenge" as a way to spiral out into obsession and self-damaging, over-the-top action. I walked away from that when I walked away from working. You may well get someone from this group who's interested, though. We've quite a range of women in this collection of rampant individualists!
Heather - Enjoy your painting. I've rearranged my craft room again so there's enough space, and really want to get back to painting once I've got this quilt out of my creative fore-brain.
The rain has finally left us, hitting central and eastern Arkansas now, and headed for our Ohio and Michigan people and then the East Coast again, but supposedly it's snowing outside again here. You'd think it was winter or something! I can see the fog, but it's so thick, it's hard to tell if it's actually snowing.
I was working in the craft room for more than a few hours yesterday, and it also got quite warm outside the last couple days, so no real reason to get a fire going. However, it's now plummeted from the edge of freezing to well below since I woke a few hours ago, and supposed to get even colder through the day, so I'm listening to the pop/crackle of a lovely, comforting fire. There was still enough light when he got home yesterday that Corey was able to get up on the roof and get the chimney cap put back in place.
The last couple days have been good - on the elliptical again each day. Not breaking any land speed records, but at least I'm moving again. Plus I had one of those breakthroughs on the quilt I'm working on. I'm designing it as I go, and finally figured out a way to use my sewing machine to applique the curvy bits I want to put on the quilt... Love those breakthroughs that make a design work, so very satisfying.
Time to goose that fire, find some breakfast, and get back to my quilt. Ah - yep, I can see outside again, and it's snowing sideways. Think I'll stay home...
Love y'all!

Today was another nice warm day and I spent some time in our new patio area. I've been soaking up some Vit D.
But a cool change has come in and it's raining. That's a good thing because it has been dry here for the last few months.
More work on the kitchen. My husband even got into a bit. Put away clothes and other things. Sat on the ground outside and did some weeding. Coloured and read.
My plan is to go back to work on Monday. We'll see how my fatigue and I manage that. Fortunately the job is not physically demanding.
But I may have to wait a bit to start climbing stairs again.

Annie ... thinking of you. Hugs.2

Lisa--The doctor wanted to do the patch for 2 weeks, but insurance says we have to do this first. I just hope they can figure out what is going on.
Rosemarie--Glad to hear you got your car. I pray you have no problems and you can't hear the engine.
Kylia--Sorry to hear about your Aunt.
Annie--Prayers for you and your dad.
Well I have the monior on and hope it shows what they need. I am concerned as it only happens in no pattern. I told doctor I was afraid it wouldn't happen in the 48 hours I have this thing on. But he saw by my watch what it is doing. It's in God's hands.
Got up to blowing snow and wind chills -22. It looks like we got around 4 more inches of snow and it is blowing. Lots of offices closed and no school. I plan to get off work and go home and stay until I have to come back to work on Monday. It is not safe outside. I have been working on putting photos from books into boxes. Saving a lot of room and fun looking at the pictures. I am up to year 1999. Love my pictures.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE8 -
I’m on another medication, this time for my blood pressure. I also was asked to take my Bp twice a day for the next 10 days at least. So adding that to my list! 🙄 Next up, cataract surgery on my right eye the 24th of January.
I attempted to resize my screenshots to fit your phones. Let me know if it works!
Today is kiss a ginger, (hmmm one of the rangers is a ginger!) and pharmacists day ( a high school friend I’m still in touch with is a retired pharmacist so will send her a hello!)

Walked this morning for about two hours wearing YakTrax and it was delightful. Something about my pace or gait or something tells my pedometer that I'm not walking much so my pedometer that would have tracked 10,000 steps on the route I walked, recorded barely 5000. But I know I got the exercise because walking in snow feels a lot like walking in sand.
I downloaded the W T Forecast app and find it hilarious and accurate. Thanks to whoever suggested it.
I go to two walking sites on my computer each morning. Neither is a challenge, just a chance to keep track of my walking. One is called "World Walking" where I'm part of a group walking Africa. I've learned a lot about geography from this one. The other is "Walking 4 Fun" which is a man's photo journal of trails he's walked so each day when I record my steps, I see photos from that much of the trail that he's walked. No rewards, just the satisfaction of a job well done.
There's enough very frozen snow on the ground that Jake is going to reschedule his doctor appointment. Fortunately it's only to renew prescription and not urgent.
Barbie in NW WA6 -
Vicki - Hope the test thing shows some helpful answers. Hugs. Must be stressful. I get a fast heart rate in the night sometimes, if I am stressed, or had too much alcohol. I hate it, and it has helped me cut back on my drinking. But it's not nearly as high as yours. Reading a comforting book helps my stress in the early hours.
Stay safe in the snow!
My acrylic painting is still limping on. So far, I don't like it, but I have much more to do.
I then decided to try a quick watercolour, because John was still painting. I was very taken with the first daffodils he bought yesterday, so I had a little sketch of those. I wasn't sure for most of the painting, and was about to give up, but, once I painted the flowers in, I was happier with it. I feel it shows the grey of winter, bursting into spring.
Homemade pizza tonight with green salad. Friday night is wine night. Red wine.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Kylia sorry for your loss. ((hugs))
Rosemarie I wouldn’t believe that salesman either. Left spare key and manual on his desk? Didn’t know about Consumer Reports or recall? How can you tell when a salesman is lying? Like a politician, when his lips are moving…

Good morning ladies!
It's below freezing but I'm not sure how much. I got tired of reading/hearing all of the doom and gloom worst case horrible wind chill "advisories" and the weatherman can have them, lol. Something I can't control. I might check it out later today.
Right now beautiful light snow is falling, sun trying to peek through. A teensy bit of a breeze pops up now and then.
All the hens made it through the night and seem just fine. The lame hen is doing OK. She can't get on the roost so I put down extra cushioning (one of those mats I stapled to the deck) for where she sits at night to keep her feet off the metal floor. I'm likely worrying about the lame hen too much - she's probably has more fat on her body than all the rest of the hens put together. She just eats all day and doesn't lay eggs.
Here's Dr. Matt's Friday message on mindset and labels. I wonder when this was recorded - he's in a T-shirt on the beach. I used to be very guilty of what he talks about - setting myself up to sabotage my hard work by rewarding myself with the food I'd been avoiding.
Barbara - I tried the saltwater rinse he recommended before bed. Makes sense, why not! I do have a minor concern tho spitting all that salt down the sink drain and ending up in the septic tank. It's probably unfounded though considering our bodies process salt through all the time that ends up there.
I watched a couple videos yesterday - Dr. Rose Anne Kenney from Ireland again, talking about aging. She said our minds are very strong so the old adage "You're as young as you feel" is more than just a passing comment. I'm 72 and most of the time feel 62.
Along that line, this just popped up in my FB feed:
Need to head out and give the girl's water bowl a shot of hot stuff. Check the hummingbird's feeder to see if it has ice in it. Probably time to bring it in for a little bit anyhow to get the chill off.
Keep warm, ladies, and make it a wonderful day!

Hello to all.
Well, it's been raining again, but we don't seem to get enough to make much of a difference. It just makes everything messy. I hope all of you with real weather are staying warm and safe.
The gym-I hate them. They're too loud and it takes too much time to get through my workout because I usually have to wait on people to stop playing on their phones while they sit on machines. I have tried them off an on over the years, but about 15 years ago I decided never again (unless I want to start swimming) will I join one. I have everything I need here and the mister also works out at home and even gets stronger/bulkier. I'd like a more formal gym setup, but we can't agree on how to make that happen. So, for now, pretty much every room in the house is used in some way for some exercise.
Duck Duck Go-I use it and love it. I've used it for a long time. It just started to get advertised so it feels new, but it isn't. I use the plug in for Chrome and have never had issues with it being slow or otherwise.
Vicki-My mister went through that too. They never actually figured out what caused it, but put him on low-dose Lossartin. We put plastic wrap around it when he showered and it seemed to work.
Annie-Hugs to you.
Rosemarie-Congrats on the car.
Heather-I wanted to do the Inca trail hike. However, after our visit to Sedona where it was wall to wall people just trying to get that perfect instagrammable selfie, I am not sure I'd want to now. I will search some less-traveled paths.
Well, my niece-in-law is in labor with baby #2. I should have another great-nephew soon. I won't get to meet him until March, but I'll enjoy the photos and videos until then.
We went to a unique event last night. It was an Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy experience. We got 4 cocktails while performers "acted" out 4 of his most famous works. I wore a dress I'd purchased for a rockabilly festival in 2020 (but I think it's timeless) and never wore and shockingly, it fit me even with the weight gain. Many people dressed up. It was much more fun than I expected.
Here's a pic of it. I didn't get a picture of me in it, but I'll find a time to wear it again and maybe do up my hair.
Time to put on the new running shoes and get going. Have a great, warm and cozy day for those who have the cold and a sunshiny day for those "down south."

Tina: Sounds like you had a fun night at the event.
Annie: Hugs as you continue to go through a very difficult situation.
Rebecca: Sorry the management company is not quick to respond to the leaking dishwasher that's ruining the floor. Whenever our renter has a problem we jump on fixing it right away.
Barbie: Glad you enjoy the snow. Sounds like you have great clothing for the weather.
Brother-in-Law is still in the hospital and cannot go back to his memory care facility until they get his oxygen levels get to a point where he doesn't need to use a breathing machine. The memory care facility says they cannot take him if he has to be on oxygen.
Carol in GA6 -
Filled out Hospice paperwork yesterday. Even before filled out they set adaptive equipment.
I am in Marathon. Keeping up my way of eating is helping!

((((Margaret))))
Carol - is your BIL making any progress on that breathing?
Tina - gorgeous dress. I'm with you on the gym - unless I'm there when it first opens and can grab a treadmill, the machines are a hassle. I hate to wait.
Debbie - so happy you and your DH had a relatively good week with MIL behaving. Sure makes a difference. Hope your breathing continues to improve so you don't need the treatments anymore. Glad you have it there as an option.
Barbara - didn't you go see the chiro today? Hoping you got some good instruction on how to get that arm working again.
Barbie - hope they can figure out what's up with Bessie. My vet has Rosie on a 7 days of Clavamox 62.5 mg every 2 months to keep gum infections down so she doesn't loose any more teeth. They do need to be cleaned but I'm hoping this will keep them intact in the meantime. Sounds like it's a good day for Jake to stay home.
Tracey - I need one of those cups, lol.
Joy - I don't blame Lucy for not wanting to go outside. My Rosie goes out on the deck to do her business and so far I've been able to coax her off the deck to do her #2. There have been years when it's cold I get the whole thing deposited there. Glad it's a big deck.
It's starting to get breezy here, this might be the wind chill they were talking about. No worries, I have the chicken run surrounded either by plastic panels or tarps. Looks kinda hokey but the girls think it's the ritz! Already got two eggs. They can take the cold a lot better than they can take the heat.
That's the update for now.

And to pour salt on the wound, the new management company sent us a specifically printed with our names pamphlet on how to manage the winter with house upgrades. Things you would send to a home OWNER not a renter. Just shows how clueless they are.🙄

Another thing to add to the gratitude list-- after Jake called to cancel hi 9AM doctor appointment because of the snow, they called him back and connected him to his doctor via Zoom to have his appointment virtually. Hooray for technology and our great health care providers
The Gym. When I split up with my first husband , I was offered a free month at a small gym that had separate days for women and men and offered personalized workouts. I went there three days a week for eight years until Jake moved in and staying home after work looked better than going to the gym. It was a magical time. That was 1988. Since then, my exercise has been at home or walking or dance class. I have enjoyed workout rooms at hotels but otherwise don't want to be bothered with having to drive somewhere

Good afternoon, ladies.
Lanette, those chickens are so lucky!
Barbie, sorry to hear about Bessie's health issues.
Heather, love the daffodils.
Machka, your sitting/relaxing area is beautiful.
Annie, thinking of you and your ongoing struggles.
Well, some of you are probably tired of hearing about Alberta's weather woes, but I have to tell you it was minus 40 C here this morning. The Edmonton International Airport showed -57 C with the windchill. My nephew and his family are returning today from their 6 week vacation to the Philippines (visiting extended family). Are they ever going to be shocked coming from +33 to-50's! They are in the air to Vancouver right now and will be catching a connection to Edmonton, arriving at about midnight. My BIL is picking them up and taking some warm coats/boots with him.
I took Lucy out 3 times this morning for quick trips. She finally pooped quickly on the 3rd trip out. I ordered a package of dog pee pads from amazon yesterday and they should be here by the end of next week just in time for our more balmy weather. I can't remember who suggested this but thank you! I will be better prepared when we get the next onslaught. Poor Lucy is dealing with a dog mom who has never dealt with a small dog before. I put some newspaper down in a couple of areas inside as an option for Lucy. So far only the cats have shown an interest in sitting on the paper (silly animals).
I think the worst thing about this weather is that it came on so suddenly. It isn't unusual to get temperatures in this range, but we usually have a gradual build up before plunging into the deep freeze. We still have very little snow cover and I have heard that some people are trying to deal with frozen water lines and septic pump out issues in our area. I know we will be ok as our lines are down very deep so thankful about that.
Enjoy the rest of the day, ladies.

We texted the family, offering to have Edie over on Saturday afternoon while Bea is at Theatre School. Apparently, Edie has a swimming competition then. But she is coming over after football on Sunday morning.
We will have lunch together and do something creative. I would like to show her some old family photos, but only if she's interested. She loved the ones of her dad when he was a baby. I think it might interest her to see pictures of her great grandparents.
Carol - Living close is a bonus, and the kids are still young. We see Bea every Tuesday because we pick her up from school. She is only 7. This won't last for ever. We are very aware that they are growing up fast and things will change. I hope they will still want to see us, but it is unpredictable. We are trying to make the most of each moment, but we often have to offer and make the first move, or they assume we are busy. We miss them terribly when we don't see them.
It has warmed up a little here. 6 °C in the day. I am still grateful to have heat!
I bought Scotch Eggs from the butcher for lunch tomorrow and some diced veal for a stew for tomorrow evening.

Add me to those who hate scary movies- always have.
In high school, as a "reward" for being good/no cutting classes, ect, we got to sit in the gym and watch a movie- they picked "Tales of the Crypt". That was our reward. I freaked out so bad during it, my cousin had to walk me out of the gym. I was shaking so bad. I had nightmares for months. Still can't stand to even see the cover of that dvd. Dh thinks it is funny. He is all about scary/gory movies and shows. One of his favorites is Walking Dead. I will not be in the same room as him if he is watching it. If he is watching it in his room, I will close his door and turn up the tv in the bedroom(if I am in there) to drowned out the sounds from that. I don't want to see or hear any of it. He has it on loud so need to have mine louder, which I don't like, just do block it.

walked the wetlands- a bit chilly but again, no wind. More people were out today. I guess getting their walk before the next storm hits. Was high tide. No beach at all this time.
Went shopping with dh before walking- got some steps in that way. At almost 11,000 so far.
Got some great deals- got two packages of chicken leg/thighs $2 a pack. Have them cooling in the pressure cooker now- food for the stray cat for the next few days-will freeze part of it too. Inside cats will get a little.
No plans for the weekend. Plan on going to church Sunday- missed the last two weeks sick and the week before was Christmas and I was at mom's..
No class Monday- will go walk someplace either alone or with a friend.

Worked then went to CVS to get my prescription for the antibiotic. I need to take 2 capsules three times/day! Then started prebowling for when we’re in FL, then to pick up these quilts I had made with the blocks MIL had
Barbara – “a politician is lying when his lips are moving” ROTFLMAO
Lisa – stay warm
Everyone impacted by the storm – stay safe
I think the battery on my pedometer died, so I’ll try changing it. If that doesn’t work, then the pedometer is toast I think. Gee, I haven’t had it that long.
Tina – lovely dress. Sounds like so much fun
I remember one year when we were in PA it really snowed.. We shoveled a path so the cat could go out. He held it in.
Jess just called.. She has covid. Her cat was supposed to go to the vet next Wed. and we were going to meet her Mon for dinner and cat exchange. Guess we won’t be doing that. I need to go into the freezer and take something out for dinner Monday
I don’t care for scary movies. Or ones with a lot of violence in them

Add me to the list of those who dislike scary/horror movies! I will watch a good mystery and even a slightly psychological thriller, but prefer fluffier! lol No way would I let my grandkids watch anything by Tim Burton! Their parents might, but they get Disney Channel at my house!
Also add me to the list of those who are shopping out of the pantry and freezer. Took all of the bananas out of the freezer the other day, there were 21 of them! Now I have a freezer full of banana bread.... I also had five more bananas that weren't looking too happy on the counter so I googled recipes and found a Banana Oatmeal Breakfast Cookie. I'm pretty sure I've made them before, I remember the taste/texture. They are pretty good and even little bit healthy. The recipe calls for peanut butter and I use a natural one so that's a plus. Also oatmeal and whole wheat flour. No eggs or oil, but some honey. I didn't have any honey so I did substitute corn syrup. Really should put the recipe into this site and see what the damage is.
On going to the gym: I find if I pay for it, I'll do something, no pay, no go. I have a Y that is fairly close and I can pretty much always get the cardio machine that I want. I don't go at peak times, I'm usually not there til 9 am. That is first thing for me! lol I always wipe down the machines when I'm done, I don't get as sweaty as some, but it's a courtesy thing. There are folks who wipe down before and after, just in case the person before didn't bother.
We didn't get the snow that had the whole city in a panic yesterday, we got a bit, just enough to make it slippery and I live on a hill..... Fortunately I didn't have to go anywhere today, so I didn't. This gives the road crews more of a chance to get the salt/sand down before I have to go out tomorrow. It is cold tho! Not like what's happening in most of Canada, but cold for this neck of the woods. Going out every hour or so to that the hummingbird feeder. One more thaw, then it'll come in for the night. I have fresh nectar to put in it for tomorrow morning. Poor little things, they are all puffed up.
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any new gals!

Michele, in 2016 my 2009 Honda CRV had an airbag recall in February and the fix would not be available until the summer. They gave us the option of driving a rental at their expense until it could be fixed. I opted to trade it in instead.
Rosemarie, my sister and my daughter drive Rav4s. They love them. My new 2024 CRV looks very similar, and I adore it. My husband drives a Tacoma. I kind of wanted a Highlander when I traded back in September, but I didn’t want to pay the difference and Our Toyota dealership service center is awful compared to the Honda one. When I bought my very first CRV, I test drove the Rav4. Back then it still had the spare tire on the outside. Otherwise I would probably be driving one today.
We thought we were going to need a new garage door, but the serviceman was able to repair our old one. He said that maybe that will hold us for another year or so, before our 30 year old motor gives up the ghost. The handle of one of our garden tools got stuck in it; when Dave went to lower it, the jam made the end roller jump the track. We were very, very lucky that it did not fall far enough to hit my new car. It also shorted out one of the sensors so they had to be replaced. We would have just gone ahead and sprung for a whole new door if we hadn’t just shelled out a bunch of money for tree work and a new deck and wheelchair ramp.
In my skimming, I think I missed a post from a newbie from Georgia. Welcome! I live northeast of Atlanta.
I have been reading the Cameron Strike books by Robert Galbraith, pseudonym of JK Rowling. Anybody else read those?
