Stay warm unless you are Machka who likes to stay cool
Kylia in Ohio
I like it when it is hot outside! I am comfortable in outside heat ... but not comfortable in indoors heat. I'm guessing that's because there's wind outside and I don't feel closed in.Tracey not use electric heaters with those temps? :noway:
Barbara
I imagine most people will use furnaces.
Electric heaters are expensive (on the power bill) and can be a fire hazard.

3:49 and I can no longer sleep. I am pre-occupied with the decluttering and need to relax. I need to build in time for knitting and audio books. I can't just motor through this. It will take a year anyway. As they say, it is like an onion that needs to be peeled away.
The handy man called and wants to come this afternoon. I want him to put together a tv stand and mount the tv on the stand. And he said he would bring wood to measure my bed to make better fitting bed boards. I also have a rug I would like to lay out. And the hooks to the Christmas wreaths are still on the windows. I got the wreaths down. I am not sure we can complete all this. He might have to come back.
I am pretty excited but tense about all this activity. It would be so easy just to knit and binge watch Murder in the Building and listen to an audio book.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia10 -
Margaret: Deepest sympathy, dear girl. 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 for the days ahead.
Rosemarie: Decluttering can be very intense. Think of your crochet etc as part of the declutter process. Declutter for say 30 minutes, and then reward yourself with a break. Each 30 minute declutter is a building block on your way to a clutter free environment.
It’s a cool but bright morning in my neck of the woods. Morning workout completed. I have some prep to do for Creative Writing and Monday Painters groups, but otherwise a day for relaxation.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

Margaret - I add my thoughts to all of the others on here. I will be thinking of you, and send my love.
Rosemarie- I'm not surprised you are a bit hyped up by the Take Your House Back day. It must have been pretty intense! I'm interested in how it worked, and the 'live' aspect of it. Do you know how many people participated? You have made an excellent start it seems, and you can be proud of yourself and reward yourself with a rest and indulgence. Why not have a 'duvet day'? I'm a great fan of those.
Yes, the onion metaphor is great and no one can go full on for ever. Nor should you. Once you have made that first pass, it can be a little at a time. I do mini 5 minute bursts which can be very satisfying. Five minutes is enough for a drawer, or a surface.
You are doing so well. Congratulations!
In fact, I have just woken up from an extra sleep, which I rarely do, but my legs were so achy last night, I didn't get to sleep until gone 3 am. I woke at 6.30. Felt sick with exhaustion. Edie is coming at 11.30, so I had breakfast, did my rowing, and then took myself to bed again. Slept from 9 until 10.10. Phew!
These leg ache things come and go. At the moment, it's bad at night, but fine in the day. I go through phases when I don't have it. I hate when it keeps me awake. I suspect it's a flare up of Sjögrens syndrome. My eyes are very gritty at the moment too. Sometimes I get showers of dry skin on my legs.
Edie will take my mind off any troubles. I bought some plastic stands to display my books better in my top bedroom, but I've put them away as she is mega curious. I don't want her reading them at her age! She might come upstairs with me to look at photographs. When the kids stay the night I always put the adult books away. They love reading my children’s books though. :-)
Well, up and at'em.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Heather: 🥰 duvet days. When I don’t have a group in the mornings I often take myself back to bed after I do my morning workout. I can read and write there just as well as up and about.

For the most part, I don't think I would be worried about children seeing my books. My collection is divided almost equally in two. Non-fiction and Fiction.
The Non-fiction section has a range of material across the Dewey Decimal categories from the 100+ courses I have taken in a wide variety of subjects.
The Fiction section is largely G, PG, or PG13 rated material with just a few venturing into the somewhat more racy end of things.

Margaret - I am so sorry, but pleased you and hospice were able to help your husband on his way from a peaceful and loving place. So glad that you have DrewB for comfort and support with neighbors and family. It's been a rough few years for you, dear heart. We are with you.
Annie - I hope yesterday was lovely and brought peace to you and to your family, too.
Heather - I imagine your time with Edie will be its usual shot of energy for your day. So glad you moved close enough to family to have this time with all of them! I know they're glad, too. Can't imagine your son and fam having to deal with the dang skylights again. I understand the drive to have them, but much like a sunroof/moonroof on a vehicle, always thought they add too many possible glitches to the integrity of the roof. Glad the builder's adhering to the warranty, though.
Kylia - The grands are just gorgeous, as are you, my friend.
Tracey - Hope the overnight power situation didn't go as badly as they feared.
Machka - The outside of my refrigerator is always a source of glorious chaos. I have all the magnets that I've collected in my travels. I started in my flight attendant years, as something that I could pick up in any airport to remind me where I'd been, and continued with any traveling Corey and I have done since, so there are probably more than a hundred. The grands love to play with them when they're here, and since I began it more than 15 years ago now, any refrigerator without that seems bare and very sterile. They have been the first thing to get put in place in each house we've moved into (this is our tenth). Occasionally I get a little bored and start rearranging them by size, or sometimes by geography, but usually, they're all higgledy-piggledy.
More in a bit, my dears,
Love,

Good morning my dears from the record-breaking cold of the Arkansas River Valley at 2°F (-17°C), and the wind-chill at -18° (-28°C),
I've not been in weather this cold since I lived in Montana a century ago. We are supposed to get snow starting about 2 p.m., and there's a chance that Corey might be called in to help clear snow and lay snowmelt down on sidewalks and in parking lots--working for a landscaping company, snow removal is part of their contract, along with maintaining the grounds of these big properties like the hospitals. It's a toss-up. If it's bad enough that they close the bridges, he may be needed, but closing the bridges will mean a lot of the guys can't get there, including him! We're across the Arkansas River from Fort Smith, where the hospitals are.
Things are fine here at the house; some smart boy built it with all the water lines under the house, where they stay protected, and nothing froze last night, thank goodness. Already got a load of laundry done, and coffee, of course. Corey got the needed connector, brought the gas fireplace in from the sunroom, and got it working in front of the fireplace yesterday. We were very nearly out of dry wood, and should the electricity go out, the fireplace is the only source of heat. Since the fire is gas alone, no electricity is needed. Some bright boy had a gas line installed to the fireplace long before we bought it, as well, so it's running off the natural gas we use for hot water and the stove. Egg fully approves:
Friday, he also swapped in a new carburetor on the generator, cleaned out all the gas lines, and put wheels on it so I can move it if necessary. I wrote all that as if I knew what he did when in all reality, I wouldn't even know where to FIND the carburetor. 👀🤪😀 We bought the generator when we bought the house, nearly six years ago now, and it can supply electricity for fridges and freezers, etc., if necessary. It runs about eight hours on a tank of gas. They come in awfully handy in a pinch, and I'm so glad he thinks ahead.
Not having a duvet day, exactly, but am ensconced in my favorite recliner with a heated blanket on my lap (dug it out yesterday), happily writing to y'all. Levi (youngest grandson) celebrated his 4th birthday in Hawaii yesterday, with a full-blown construction zone party--he loves trucks and trains and heavy equipment and got lots of them in his size.
Those in the path of the winter blast, keep warm!
Thinking of everyone,
Love y'all!8 -
(((Margaret))) Heartfelt condolences on the loss of your DH. Sending love and strength your way. Take care dear one.

Margaret-I hope you find in peace in the care you gave him.
Barbara AHMOD-if you are moving and dressed for the weather it really isn't bad. I usually dress in layers. It is not unusual to have to take jacket off if I start with it and a vest and sweatshirt. With windchill currently at -16F I will not walk outside. I did order a heated vest and gloves that arrive today. We have food pantry Thursday (it is a drive through) and I want to be as comfortable as possible. If they arrive while still daylight I may step a bit to see how they work.
Tracey-I understand the "dig out the flip flops." When I lived in Northern Maine (Aroostook County, close to St. John River Valley) I remember when -15 seemed warm!
Rosemarie-when my DH passed I had a great burst for purging, etc. Then it seemed like each time I thought I was making progress, more stuff appeared! So here I am, going on 9 years and there are still things. Much more manageable but clearing out stuff is hard. Just take it as you can. Sometimes I have walked away from it for 3-4 months and just focused on basics.
Kylia-glad you got to spend the time with grands. I miss not having close contact with mine, but it is what it is! Thanks goodness for FaceTime!
The cold is indeed here. We had a bit of snow overnight, maybe half an inch or so. Had strange power outage this morning. It went out and back on multiple times. I looked outside and made sure it wasn't just my house. I cold hear a transformer (I think that is what is was) kick back on, lights would come on, then kick back out. Got my battery lamp out and on and changed into warm clothes in case I would have to vacant. All seems good now.
After I worked on cleaning up some photos and freeing space (it is so easy to just leave stuff on your computer) I did some more cleaning of that this morning. Cleared out old emails-I don't know why I have so much trouble getting rid of emails. Goal for this year here and at work is to get a better handle on them.
Time for morning stretches and some house chores.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Good morning ladies.
Margaret, so sad. So very sorry for your loss.
Well everything went well for my Mom's memorial service yesterday. The house is full of flowers and food. My cousins and nieces and nephews have all come and gone. My sister is here until Friday, so we hope to get some paperwork done. At least write some thank yous.
It was a beautiful service. My cousin did the eulogy and told how my mom took her in when she was a wild child, and taught her what a stable loving family life could be. My mom gave so many things to so many people.
The reception went well. My dad had some trouble with his hearing aids. But the slide show worked well, with some really great pictures and memories. The food was good. And many people showed up that I didn't expect. So that was a bonus.
So I am wiped out. So many people, so much talking. But it all went well.
Thank you for all your support during this adventure.
Have a great day,
Annie13 -
Margaret, so sorry for your loss...how comforting to have friends and Hospice to help you.3
-
Annie ... glad to hear that the memorial service went well. Take advantage of your sister's presence in the next few days and let her help you. Decision fatigue is real when grieving. Hugs.
Margaret ... thought of you through the night and continuing to pray ...
The weather outside is frightful! Here (near Buffalo ), we have had travel bans since last night (whiteout conditions) and are dealing with lake effect snow bands today. Temperatures will be in the single digits tonight. Fortunately, my mom is back in her assisted living facility and I visited with her Friday afternoon. Hopefully, she'll remember/understand why I'm not there this weekend.

HMMMM. Let’s see: I got the WTForecast and love it! I watch all types of moves but don’t like the horror ones full of blood and guts, or the ones with evil ghosts and demons. Nightmare Before Christmas, my 3 kids couldn’t get enough of it when it first came out. We watch it every year at Halloween. We have certain movies we watch at different times of the year. Independence Day and other alien abduction/ destruction at the 4th of July. Movies for Halloween, like ET, War of the Worlds, and Disney kid’s horror movies. Of course, Thanksgiving has a few good Romance movies that I watch without DH who hates them, and a couple horror ones he likes full of blood and guts (yuck!). Christmas of course is the huge selection they have of every kind for Christmas, from Krampus to Elf. Other times of the year, I love comedies and some romances, action that has a story, not all blood and guts or all action and no story, I love biographies and history-type movies like the Social Network and Oppenheimer (not seen yet!).
I broke down and bought myself an Apple Watch. I researched what it did compared to my FitBit and it really does a whole lot more, like fall notification, crash notification, checks my O2 level (asthma), heart rate and logs irregularities, I can take an ECG when I feel dizzy or whenever, along with providing mental health apps like stop and Breath for 30 seconds and others. I now have a problem as to MFP and my insurance don’t recognize the Apple Watch. I’m working on a way for both to recognize both devices. I don’t want to keep wearing 2 (one on each hand!).
Friday I went for a 40 minute walk and felt ok so brought out my yoga mat and wanted to do 10 minutes of back exercise. I only got about 5 minutes then almost passed out. Then yesterday felt bad all day, so I am going to wait until my body adjusts to the new meds for a while. That is what I suspect is going on. If not better by Monday, (tomorrow) I will call cardiologist about this. I feel pretty good so far today, so maybe that is what it was.

Ginny-The photo is gorgeous. Thanks for changing your storage for us! 😀
Margaret-so sorry to hear it. Hugs.
Tracey-if you close and reopen WTForecast, it’ll change the “blurb.” I think I did it 5 times in a row and then it started over.
The movie Inside Out-I started this on an airplane several years ago and still haven’t seen the last 10 minutes! I also started the movie Pan and was at the climax when the plane was landing. I was so engrossed that I didn’t even realize the plane landed. I still haven’t seen the last 10-15 minutes of that one. No spoilers please! Eventually, I’ll see these on Netflix and finish.
Ladycopnh1-i have two ways to avoid the snacking on sugar. I make a small plate of items like carrots, olives, nuts, a couple of cheese chunks, etc. and leave it on the counter. Then I can graze off that. It helps keep me from opening up the cookie container. I also avoid buying the cookies, cake, etc. If it isn’t in the house, I can’t eat it.
Annie- So glad the day went well and so many people showed up for your family.
We got the yard work done yesterday. We were beat! I ended up with yet another headache just behind my right eye. I hate these because nothing helps alleviate the pain and it affects my eyesight terribly. It haunted me all night and is lingering today.
Sending sunshine to all of you where it’s cold!

Good Sunday!
The sun is shining but I will enjoy it from the warmth of the house! It is 6°F outside. Don't know about wind chill. Going to friend's house this evening, but that is the only venture out planned today. Slept in. Have a couple things to work on at home when I get off here.
Beth I understand that the football game got rescheduled due to your weather. Stay safe dear! We bumped up the heat in the house just in case of power outages due to winds, so far good. Thankful for the investment of extra insulation and insulated curtains.
Margaret Continued prayers for you.
Annie I am glad it all went well for you. I have to look for pictures of my aunt today for her memorial in March. I have lost so many in move but hopefully can find some.
Rosemarie Great job on decluttering! I like the other's suggestions. You do need to decompress a well. I am glad you like your new car.
Tracey I have had days where I am just 😠. Thankfully they done less frequently these days. You've got this! I have noticed that I really do let other's mods effect mine, ie DH being snippy equals my lack of energy for anything. Part of that is the empathetic part of me. I am consciously working on that.
Mom dramaWhen mybsister called our mom about our Aunt passing, mom was nonchalant. Like well" I haven't seen her in 10 yrs and didn'tknow where she was so why shoukd i care" . Seriously!!!!This was her sister! I don't know why it should surprise us. My poor sister told mom that we had given her our aunt's information several times. Mom then asked Kryssa if she had a cold. Kryssa said no, she was crying. Mom asked why?!? Kryssa said because Aunt just died. Mom's response...."welll, i dont know how to consul you. Seriously, this is why there is little to no communication with that woman.
@ladycopnh1 Congratulations on loss! My recommendation on sugar addiction is to make sure you are getting plenty of protein. It really does help clear my brain to make better choices.
Rita I am a Droid lady but have thought about going to Samsung watch. I am kind of stuck to fitbit. My girls love their apples though. Take care dear!
I had better get moving since it is 11 am and I have little accomplished.
Loving thoughts to all! Stay safe whatever your adventures are today. Remember three things...small steps lead to big results, you have to protect your self care because no one else will, and you are loved for being you!

We could not have done it without all the support I rec'd from family and friends, and my own self care. Hospice was also a big piece. Everyone should have hospice care during a time like this. He died with 80's music in the background to the song Start Again...I was writing to cousins on Facebook to send phone numbers so I could call his cousin's so they could talk to him. He was no longer speaking but I could tell he liked the idea. I kept cheering him on with what he just accomplished was his marathon, his 5k, his 10K. Neighbors who live knew it was bad because I had to call the parameditics to help with two falls. The husband came and shoveled our driveway without asking. A neighbor at John's shoveled his sidewalk. The cousin who is my age could was a wonderful support! Time to go cuddle with DrewB.
I’m so sorry for your loss, my heart is with you.2 -
I offloaded a VERY expensive Le Creuset shallow casserole pan on my son this afternoon. Beautiful. Turquoise. I think I have used it twice! I must have bought it in our last house, and I know I haven't used it here at all. Too big and heavy. New condition. I debated selling it, but I know I wouldn't get a good price for it, so it wasn't worth the hassle.
The good news is, he was over the moon with it! Delighted.
I looked up the list price - £285.
When I bought it, I thought it was smaller. But I use my IP all the time and I have a similar sized stainless steel one on a high shelf. I haven't used that either!
So, now I have room to organise my frying pans, and will buy racks for them. Two of them have glass lids.
It hurt to let such a beautiful object go, but it's gone to a good home.
Edie was her usual wonderful self! She spent ages looking through my Instagram 'saves' to try and decide what art project to do. She decided on one with masking fluid and paint layers. I carried on with my acrylic and made progress. John did a wonderful design. When she finished she experimented with John's inks he got for his birthday.
She is reading a set of stories, written for her age group, which are all about disasters and tragedy. She loves them.
She wants to be a psychologist, like her mum!
Before we started painting , we dived into my photo archive, and I showed her my grandparents and great grandparents. She knows about my grandfather who lost his leg in WW1. I had photocopies I could give her.
Then John showed her photos of himself as a small child. She adored them.
After I'd given myself a brain injury with my acrylic, I rustled up a quick greetings card for some lucky person in the future! :-) I'm calling it 'The Red Flower'.

Did Jari Love’s Ripped to the Core DVD then took my walk. Then went to WalMart. I don’t know if it’s that I’m getting older or maybe the fact that I don’t exercise all the time any more, but I seem to need lighter weights. Like I used to be able to use 10lb weights for chest, now I need 8lb.
Ken and Lynette are supposed to be here later for dinner. I took a page from the soup kitchen. I have the pork chops all breaded and Saran Wrap on top, the biscuits separated and Saran Wrap on top, the bacon wrapped scallops (Lynette is allergic to shrimp) on a pan in the freezer with Saran Wrap on top.
Barbara – I’m going to talk to Vince and see about having the tree removed this winter. It’s probably the slow season for the guy who does our landscaping, and since it’s outdoors it’s not like we even have to be here. The only thing is that I want about 5 other trees removed. That would come out of my landscaping/remodeling fund, not this tree since it’s maintenance. I just don’t know if it will be cheaper to have him do the other 5 since he has the equipment here...I just don’t know. I would like to get the bathrooms in the condo remodeled, so if there isn’t any financial benefit, I would rather wait so that I have the money for the bathrooms. We shall see Update: I did talk to Vince about the tree, I called the guy and told him that we would like the tree removed. Vince is super concerned that the tree is on the property line (maybe) and he feels strongly that we need to talk to the neighbor. He (the neighbor) did say to me “I wouldn’t want the tree to fall on your house”. I really don’t think it’s going to be a problem. Now to have the guy come out and give us an estimate and do it.
Tracey – how can they promote all electric vehicles and then ask people not to charge them? Sounds ridiculous to me. Another reason why I don’t think gas powered vehicles will ever totally go away.
Rori – happy birthday
Barbie and Jake – happy anniversary
M – the heat outside doesn’t bother me. But the cold really bothers me, especially the older I get
Magnets on refrigerator – I guess it’s a blessing in disguise that magnets don’t stick to the front of my refrigerator, only the sides. At least I can’t have it completely covered like I did with my last refrigerator!
A bit of a rant – we have a Goggle Assist. Well, just recently it doesn’t recognize my voice when I want to add something to the shopping list. It recognizes my voice to turn on/shut off lights or when I ask it a question. It recognizes Vince’s voice – just not mine. Even Vince is stumped. Of course, we’ve tried reprogramming it, nothing. What a pain, instead of just saying “hey google, add eggs to home shopping list”, I have to take out my phone, unlock it, then manually add it.
Lisa – when we moved to NC 16 years ago, we brought our generator with us. It felt so so good to sell the house “snowblower included”, but we brought the generator. Fortunately, we have never had to use it. One time we thought we might have to, but we didn’t. HUG for Levi (big boy)
Annie – I’m so glad to hear that the service went so good. Sounds like your cousin gave a wonderful eulogy
