Good morning ladies!
It's 24F here but feels a lot warmer - no wind or wind chill today, unlike what Kylia and Ginny and many more of you are experiencing today. The house is staying warm, a blessing.
Heather - Great news on all of the items your handyman fixed. I have a cast iron/enameled Lodge Dutch Oven. I think it weights 15 # with the lid on, without any food in it. I can't lift it in and out of the oven but I do use it on the stovetop. It really is perfect for stews - if I'm making a huge batch. It's awkward to put in the sink and wash/rinse. What a nice gift for to your son. Your time with Edie sounded great - I love looking at photos of ancestors too. Interesting about your grandfather. Edie has such a good interest in people, she'll make a great psychologist. The red flower painting is awesome.
Michele - I agree, 10# weights are just too heavy anymore.
Beth - glad your mom is back home. I remember having similar weather when I lived in northern Indiana - lake effect snow. Sounds like your siding is paying off!
Barbara - so happy your chiro was able to diagnose your shoulder/arm injury and you have a plan.
Rosemarie - your new car sounds great.
Much, much more I want to comment on but it's another day of running out every hour to give the chickies and the hummingbirds warm water/food. Plus tending the woodstove that has been going since 1:30 this morning. Hope I can catch up later. Sending love and warm wishes to all of you.
Reminder to those of you who want to be included in tomorrow's check-in.

Annie, good to hear that your mom"s service went well.
Another cold frigid day here but I think we are coming out of it (a bit) tomorrow. My nephew and family landed in Vancouver from the Philippines on Friday. Just as they landed, the connecting flight to Edmonton was cancelled. They are still in Vancouver and have been booked on a Westjet flight leaving at 7:00pm. It is showing as delayed right now so hopefully it won't be cancelled. Going to be minus 46 C with the windchill tonight at the airport so better than the last couple of days but still brutal.
Thankfully they didn't have to turn power off throughout the province last night. There was a threat to the power grid which I don't recall ever happening and a possibility of rotating blackouts. Apparently when it gets this cold we get needed power from B.C. and Saskatchewan but because of their weather issues, that was not happening.

Well today,i got the garbage together, dropped off laundry.
Reason I did laundry,is my place is a mess right now,and the laundry is down the hall,so i just chucked it in and then went and put it in the dryer.
I have Alfie in his Owl sweater for dress your dog day
And I put this together for Siri for next weekend
So I have been busy.6 -
I just had 2 handy men leave. This was my first time working with them and they were excellent. I had purchased 2 inexpensive rugs off of Wayfair and a new tv stand off of Amazon. They helped put new bed supports on my bed frame and lay the rugs and finished putting together the tv stand. So 3 rooms have a different look and feel to them now. Having this done, decluttering and getting a new vehicle have me feeling a little anxious. I think I was set in my ways and not use to so much change. I think I will pause a little now and rest. My budget says it is time to rest!
Best,

Thank you, the suggestions, for sugar addiction. I try not to have junk food in the house, but I have and adopted family and just lost my adopted mom. My adopted brother loves Oreo balls, so I promised to make him some. Unfortunately, I decided to wait till her funeral reception to give him his bag of sweets....so now I need another package of Oreos. My husband LIVES on peanut butter M/Ms, so they are in the house all the time 24/7. My husband needs to put a mouse trap in the bag when he's not munching on them. I have yogurt, 3 containers of fruit, oranges, sugar free Jello, etc. But the stress of the funeral coming up is getting to me. I go to what comforts me. Pray I can get back on track.8

ladycopnh1 … I’m sorry you’re dealing with the loss of your mom. You will get back on track … show yourself some grace at this difficult time. However, mouse traps are an interesting dieting technique for sure!🤣

One useful tool for me in doing decluttering and other challenging tasks is "suffer for 15 minutes at a time". Working on something for 15 minutes gets something done and often it stretches for longer Either way, I make progress which feels great.
We had a great anniversary. We ventured out carefully to pick up our groceries and then stayed home by the fire. Instead of going out to pick up a festive meal from a restaurant, I fixed one of our favorite lunches (chicken Alfredo with cascatelli pasta) and Ben and Jerry ice cream for dessert. I had a beautiful walk before sunrise this morning. No cars, no people, and favorite music to listen to.
We are not used to temperatures way below freezing so we're not as prepared as people in colder climates. It was warmer today and will probably return to above freezing in the next day or so.

Margaret- so sorry for your loss- gentle hugs!
Had a good day. Went to church for the first time in 3 weeks. Special music, both of them were amazing, especially the special with the harp.
Came home and dh had actually done the dishes that were in the sink- third time in two years that he has done them so nice surprise for me. He said he did them while he waited for the 3D printer on the kitchen table warmed up.
Decided I wanted to start clearing off my treadmill. My goal was to get it done this week. Ended up keeping at it and finished it- there is a box that is dh's that he needs to move(think it will be going up to storage as it is a display case.
Dinner is a big bowl of warm oatmeal with some of the blueberry preserves on it- so good.
Way under on calories for the day.6 -
Today we went to church and afterwards got on the Freeway and drove South to see our youngest daughter who has her birthday tomorrow. We took her and her fiance out for a birthday meal. I totally failed to check calories before ordering. I really should have split the meal with my husband.
Well, we had a nice visit. After my next 16 hour fast I will track things before I eat them. I hope I learned not to do that again.
I send my condolences to those who recently had a family loss.
Goodnight, Hope8 -

I stayed in the marital bed all night! I rubbed in some 10% ibuprofen gel at bedtime, 11.20, and took a couple of paracetamol. Fell asleep OK. I woke up around 5 with achy legs, but managed to drift off again, and woke up at 7.17. Not even one bathroom visit!
A good night's sleep makes all the difference, but it's often so difficult to achieve.
I'm going to finish my taxes this morning. I'm nervous, as it's my first time online. But it must be done. I have all the figures, I think, so it's just a matter of writing it all in my old-fashioned accountancy book, and then putting it on the online form. It will take me no time when I get around to it, but I hate the anticipation. I don't actually pay any tax, as I don't earn enough, and I could opt not to do the forms, but I live in hope that I will suddenly have a huge hit with one of my books, and make a fortune!

Today’s gratitude: one set of PT! Relief!
Kylia ((hugs))
Tracey that “bad decisions” meme made me snort my water.
Heather love the pic of John and Edie creating. What concentration. the red flower greeting card and pic of your grandfather. What a beautiful casserole no doubt your son will put it to good use.
Michele I’m with Vince about talking to the neighbor, letting him know you plan to take out the tree.
Joy “threat to the power grid…” threatened to turn power off throughout the province? Make me even more thankful for our woodstove. Wishing your nephew’s family safe travels.
@ladycopnh1 so very sorry for your loss. I think giving yourself grace as Beth suggests is the priority. You WILL get back on track, one baby step at a time. ((hugs))
Debbie Happy to hear of your DH’s nice surprise for you.
Hope tracking before eating is the way to plan for success.

ladycopnh1 Sorry for your loss. A little self grace is okay. Small steps will get you there. So today...instead of having m&m's once, grab some grapes. Success. That is one step. Hugs!
Tracey Love that poem.
Barbie Happy Anniversary! At 8° yesterday we only ventured out once. Temps not any better today, but must go to work.
Hope Tracking does help awareness. Another tip is to put half in to go container at start of meal. I do this alot. Every so often DH and I will share a meal, but our tastes are different.
Debbie Great job clearing and yay for done dishes! What a nice surprise!
Machka Love that thought!
Was I productive yesterday.....nope, not really...I did get some pictures together of my aunt. While going through pictures, I ran across two with a childhood friend. We haven't spoken in years. I texted them to her. We talked for almost 2 hours! I walked the garage, so got 10k steps in. The only downside was I was pretty talked out when we got to friends last night. The other ladies kept the conversation going though. One lady recently retired from TJ MAXX. She has closets full of clothes that she has been going through. I came home with a designer dress that she paid $6 for and has never worn. It has pockets-lol! My eating was not great yesterday, not a lot of calories, just wasn't hungry.
Today is a federal holiday for some. We are open. It is 4° F without wind chill. Work, then DH massage. Thankful for remote start vehicles.
Remember small changes lead to big results!

Returned to work today.
1st day of work in 24 days.
Brain shut down at 4 pm. All of a sudden my 3 computer screens contained meaningless scribbles.
I packed up and headed home.
Napping on sofa at home at 5:30 pm.
I was only going to nap for about 20-25 minutes but ended up asleep for an hour.
Going to bed early to give tomorrow another go.
I might work from home starting partway through the day tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

Good morning ladies!
Yesterday was sort of a quiet recovery day, so not much to say. My sister has done a lot with decluttering the piles of paper around here. But I just relaxed.
My forecast says it is snowing but it isn't. Not even a flurry.
Have a great day my friends!
Annie in Delaware5 -
Michele: I have many trees on my property. I love them but am always wondering if they are going to fall!
Terri: I am sorry about DH's cousin. Safe travels.
Ginny: I love the picture of the sunrise.
Kylia: Great on having breakfast with a friend, sorry about the Mom drama.
Tracey: Sounds cold! My husband didn't do much around the house, both when I was working and when I stopped working.
I always thought we would be partners in this, but it was not to be. I do like the little bit of decorating he did and wish he. had had done more and cared more about decorating the house.
Heather: They said about 20,000 have taken the decluttering course...I guess that is since it has started. The three leaders speak in hour sessions and there is an active chat going on in Facebook. They cheer you on and encourage you to discard what you do not need. It is very motivating! The veal stew sounds terrific. The bath situation sounds a little shaky. Are there any other options?
Ladycopnhi: Congrats on the weight loss
Beth: Stay safe with your weather. I hope your Mom is okay.
RVRita: I hope the Apple Watch works out. I am thinking of getting one. I understand it can cue you into getting up every hour and moving. I want that feature.
Lisa: I just turned the weather channel on last night. It was eye opening seeing the cold and snow across the country. I have never thought of exercise as being creative but I find it motivating! The same with diet and food! I've never been especially creative, but am trying with the knitting and I have tried pottery. I have also done calligraphy which I enjoyed.
Flea: I hope you are able to stay inside with the cold weather.
Tina: The Veggie frittata sounds delicious.
Lanette: I wake up in the middle of the night and have energy. Then when I wake up again in the morning, I feel tired.
Machka: I hope your energy comes back! By nature, you have so many interests and get so much done that it must be frustrating to be slowed down!
Well, I am about to do a walking video while listening to a romance novel. Then I am going to splurge and get a manicure and meet a friend for lunch. This afternoon I hope to nap, knit and read. As you can see, not a big day of house cleaning for me. I am taking a break!
Best

Hope - Lots of good advice already. For me, there are two things that help a lot when in weight loss mode. The fact that you didn't eat the way you're trying to at one meal doesn't mean you've "broken" anything. Log your food for the very next meal. Go back and figure out how much the meal was that you didn't log ahead of time. Own it, and then move on. The second part is what someone else said--when you order it, ask them to bring a go-box with the meal, cut it in half before you ever take a bite, and put it in the go-box. Then eat the rest of your meal slowly and put your fork down between bites. You can do this!
LadyCop - Lots of good advice already for you, too. I'm a sugar-addict from way back. I do try to keep my environment clean of sweets, but have found that I WILL bake them if I'm in a full-blown sugar jones... My husband (bless him) brought home sugar cookies from his grocery trip on Saturday, but once I ate one, I knew they wouldn't be a problem--they were that sicky sweet, made from shortening so they coat your tongue and mouth with slime, things. Seriously nasty. Anyway, I'll stick to the candy orange slices that I keep in the freezer. If I'm jonesing for sugar, which I almost always am after the evening meal, I get two of those and chew on them. When I'm logging, I log the 50-calorie pieces before I even eat dinner. It's almost impossible to eat too many of them, because they're hard as a rock. Because that makes them slow to get through, by the time I've chewed up the second one, I'm also satisfied with the sugar and I can go on to something else. One thing I HAVE found is that if I restrict myself from eating anything like sugar or fats or carbs or any other category, it will be all I can think about. But if I find a way to eat something in moderation, I'm satisfied and less likely to spin out into eating everything that isn't nailed down or red hot.
Rori - Happy birthday, dear friend - hope you are well into your birthday journey and well away from the snows of home and in the sunshine.
Barbie - Happy anniversary! It sounds like you and Jake found exactly what suits you best. I think it's been a year again since Corey and I went to a restaurant. Between budget considerations and just the quality of the food and the service in restaurants these days, it makes SO much more sense for us to eat at home no matter what the celebration...
Annie - Glad you're treating yourself well as you recover from your mom's memorial service. You may well get bits and pieces of the snow we've been getting the last couple of days, as it's headed your way, along with Allie in CT, Karen in VA, and Michele in NC may get rain/snow mixed. Love watching the radar, and we are truly in a winter wonderland here.
More in a minute...
Love,

Margaret- So sorry for the loss of your DH. At the same time, I am glad he was home, with someone he loves/who loves him when he passed. Sending you all of the love, peace, and strength.
We are on day 4 of the snow system. Being right on Lake Michigan, we are getting slightly warmer temps than those further inland; but it sure makes the snow heavy and messy! Power has been off and on for the past 3 days. However, today, when I have 11 kids in my house, the temps with the windchill are -4*F! Too cold for little ones.
I better scoot. New arrivals. Kj (Kelly)3 -
Margaret, condolences on the passing of your husband.
Rosemarie, I like the suggestion to consider knitting as part of your decluttering. You are doing what Dana K White calls “decluttering by using it up.” She considers taking care of unfinished projects as part of the decluttering process, even things like hanging a picture that you’ve had propped against a wall for a while, things like that.
The discussion of onion layers reminded me of her (Dana K White again. In case you can’t tell, she’s my favorite.) “layers of a clean house” philosophy. She says there are 3 layers - the first is daily stuff: dishes, laundry, making the beds, quick pickups to put things away, etc. The second is decluttering - getting rid of the things that are keeping your space from being functional. Then, after you’ve taken care of one and two, you can get to three - the actually “cleaning” - dusting, mopping, scrubbing bathrooms, etc.
Refrigerators - I can’t do clutter on my refrigerator or things under the beds. Both of these cause me great anxiety. At some point in my life I may have to live in a space so small that I will have to utilize under the bed storage, but I will not like it. Consider it my weird quirk. I do, on the other hand, have a command center with a bulletin board, and it can get cluttered similarly to some folks’ refrigerator with things like appointment cards and post it notes.
Rita, I really wanted an Apple watch for Christmas but did not get it. Then my Fitbit started acting up. I found, however, that I could just not pull the trigger on the Apple watch, so I ended up purchasing a Fitbit Versa for considerably less. I’ve been happy with it so far. I do like the fall notification feature of the Apple watch, though. I hope you can figure out how to sync it with MFP.
There must be a way.
Annie, I’m glad the service went well and that your cousin did a good job with the eulogy.
Beth, I do not envy your cold weather. We are experiencing pretty cold 9for Georgia0 weather right now, too, and it is interfering with my movement goals. Dave bought me a really nice winter coat for the extreme cold, but it weighs a ton! I’m just a whiny baby when it comes to the cold.
Ladycopnh1, I’m so sorry for the loss of your adoptive mother. I agree with others to give yourself some grace as you navigate your grief.

Woo! Hola from the winter wonderland of Arkansas...
Corey just called for his good morning call. It was a relief to hear his voice. On days like this, I'm glad the company he works for supplies him with a big 4-wheel drive truck! It looks slicker than owl poo out there, but he assured me that, with no higher temps to thaw the snow and then re-freeze after, the roads stay reasonably dry. Marrying an Alaskan comes with some unexpected knowledge nuggets!
You can see in the background the snow piled up on the rocks around Corey's garden. The temperatures are hovering around zero degrees (about -18C), most unusual for this part of the country. Probably doesn't sound like much to KJ in MI, or Beth in Buffalo and Joy and Tracey in Canada, but here, it's freezing our little bohonkuses off...
No real plans for today except to set my meds up for the week. Laundry, etc., already caught up. Just have to make the bed and get the dishes put away. Then I get to play, unless I can convince myself to vacuum or deep clean the bathroom. The chances of either of those are... slim. 🤪👀🙄😀
Hope it is/was a good day for all,
Love,
Lisa in AR

Barbie We are definitely not used to freezing weather! I woke up to our water pump/water frozen and the temp at 15 degrees F (-8C). I’m fortunate that it doesn’t last as long as it did in New England. Less than a week and should be up at least 20 degrees warmer!.

I tried another hobby yesterday, I tried drawing and a doodle/sketch type thing using my goals for the year. I like how it came out! Here’s a picture of it. It was too cold to do anything outside yesterday so, colored, cleaned up the blocks for the blanket I am crocheting (now to put together), and tried the sketch.

Apple vs Fitbit The thing I liked about the Fitbit’s Versa 3 is that it holds a charge for almost a week. I am starting a habit of charging the Apple Watch as I read this thread and have breakfast. Usually done by the time I’m ready to move. The Apple needs a charge every day. The apple also has blood oxygen, pulse, and ECG, along with fall notification and crash notification. For me, the extras made it worth the cost. I did find a way to sync with MFP and my insurance app. So happy with that!
Today is A lot to celebrate today: Wikipedia, Pot Holes, Blue Monday, Hat Day, Teacher Day, and many more. Take a look!!
