Bea is eating her favourite farfalle with pesto and Johnny 's 'Magic Potion' at our house.
She sings between every mouthful.
A force of nature. I must say she has an excellent singing voice. Proper singing with a bit of vibrato. She has so much confidence from her theatre school on Saturdays.
She had to limp all the way home from school as she turned her ankle over yesterday.

Ginny – the heated jacket, does it have a rechargeable battery?
Tracey – the only reason we have the original Google Nest is because Vince won it. Once he had it, he HAD to upgrade. I couldn’t have cared either way
Annie – awesome that you found the will
Hello Mary! What exactly is a maritimer?
Beth – I’ll be thinking of you and yours. Stay safe
Poor Miles! Glad the surgery went well. I didn’t realize it was a “same day” surgery.
Heather – poor Bea. Hope her ankle heals fast.
It feels like I have a a callous on the bottom of my foot. I’m not sure what to do about it. May call the doc and see what needs to be done.

Yesterday’s gratitude: freezer and panty full of food, hot tub.
Spectrum internet down last night. Could get to mfp calorie counter with cellular connection, but not to “Community” “unable to connect to server” so went back to bed ;} Now exercise diary doesn’t show goal numbers, not a big deal, I know what they should be.
Kylia please share pic of designer dress with pockets.
Lisa frozen orange slices, great idea! I’ll try it with my dark chocolate square to see if it slows me down to just one
Kay like the layers, so that’s why I can’t really clean? Too much stuff keeping space from functioning. Uh oh, now that I understand, no excuse for not decluttering at least just one thing. . .
Rita your 2024 goal sketch! Bright and happy!
Ladycop bet you burned a bunch of calories raking up those pinecones
Heather well done on the taxes, you inspire me to at least begin . . . Neighbor’s pipe “mended by a cowboy”? Really sorry to hear about son’s underfloor heating.
Kate that is a LOT of snow for TN.
Hope well done finding the perfect workout, the one you will do

Barbara - I tried freezing chocolate, too, didn't slow me down on snarfing it at all The frozen candy orange slices are such a concentrated jolt of sugar, though, that they really do satisfy that craving, I think. They certainly work for me, anyway.
Heather - The farfalle with pesto sounds quite yummy, and I just started the water getting hot to make some for my lunch. Don't have farfalle, so egg noodles will have to do...
I made brown sugar cookies with pecans in this morning--they're chilling now, and will make brown butter icing this afternoon before I bake some. I'll eat one, send the remainder with Corey to work, and freeze the rest for another day. I do love baking when it's cold. I did actually walk outside for the first time in days, took the garbage out and checked the mail.
It sure is pretty, but just too stinking cold... I took this on the way back up:
And Egg, bless her, has stopped going outside for more than a few minutes. She is so bored that her tail has begun attacking her now. Don't you hate it when that happens? You can tell just how thrilled she is with me taking pictures of her shenanigans in the far right shot. 🤨
Silly cat.
Later,
Love y'all,

Machka--DH dropped the monitor off at the doctor's office this morning. I have an appointment on Feb 16 to talk about what it shows and what the next step it. If something comes up before I am to call and get in to see him sooner.
Having an off day. Thinking and praying for each of you.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE7 -
Good afternoon ladies,
Sorry I've been MIA thanks to Katiebug and the Cormoran Strike series. Just starting book 2. So I'm playing catch up here, sort of.
Rita - doodle sketch great idea!
Tracey - when is your cold snap supposed to end? I know winter hangs around a lot longer where you and Joy (and our upper Midwest ladies) are. I actually put a space heater in the master bath - it has a water line running up an outside wall. Not sure if it could take 14F. So far seems to be OK. Low tonight 33F.
Lady cop - you have done so well on your weight loss. Don't stress, do the best you can with the funeral and afterwards. Sending hugs.
Margaret - sounds like things are moving along for DH's funeral. When is it? Maybe you said and I skipped. You have done your homework and will make good decisions for this. Sending hugs and strength your way.
Annie - so happy the will was found, things should start going more smoothly. One day at a time. Hope your dad is doing OK. And you.
Michele glad the antibiotics seem to be helping that tooth. Sorry about the tummy irritation.
Vicki - what a mess with the burst pipe in the hospital. So glad you could spend time with your grands, I'm sure it made their day. Good your DH got the monitor dropped off, curious what they find. Stay warm!
Pip Happy birthday Yogi! Glad Chispa is doing better.
Heather - hope your son's cold floor gets fixed soon. And hope the neighbor with the soapy water situation gets that fixed too. That farfalle looks delicious - don't have any but like Lisa, egg noodles (cooked in broth) sound good too.
Lisa - your wintery scene looks like mine. It's supposed to warm up today, taking its time. I'm sooo ready. I have to wear cleats on the bottom of my Muck shoes to navigate the ice getting to the chicken coop. Makes my gait a little odd and knee tendons are getting grumpy. Probably that and getting on the floor and back up at least 50 times today so far adding wood to the stove. They say it's good exercise.
Macha - I'm ready for warmer weather but 84F would be pushing it for me. Sunny and 76F sounds about right. Nice patio setup!
Debbie - hey I like that wrap around the chicken tractor. Something to definitely keep in mind if I get another setup. I was surprised at how well the clear tarps worked out, easy to attach and take down with just a couple mini bungee cords from Walmart. Glad MIL seems to be behaving herself. Are you slipping her something? I would!
I cancelled Collette for this morning and reset for tomorrow. I told her too much stuff to navigate around - firewood, outside shoes, you name it and I was too tired to "pre-clean" before arrived. Mainly putting things away, picking up dog toys, etc. Unless there's an ice storm she'll be here at 8 tomorrow.
Ok ladies, I know I missed some of you. Sorry. Stay warm and no slip-sliding allowed.
Lanette

Barbara, exactly on the layers of a clean house. Dana K White tells the story of her realizing this when they were staying at a vacation rental and saw how easy it was to clean it before they left, because they didn’t have to start with dishes and laundry, and there was no clutter.
I have never been a fan of pickles on my sandwiches, but for some reason I’ve been rethinking this. I had some pickled okra left over from a Christmas get together, so I threw a couple of pieces in a low carb tortilla wrap with ham, cheese, and honey mustard dressing. It was actually quite tasty, and made me feel like I’d had another veggie.
I’ve got a Zoom tonight at 6:30 so I have a roast with veggies in the crock pot. I braved the weather to get my 10,000 steps, so am feeling quite accomplished today. I’ve logged my food and will be under my calories and met my protein goal as long as I stick to the plan.7 -
Barbara - guys who only turn up for the money and do a botched job are called 'cowboy builders' over here. Often they are touting for work.
Farfalle is perfect for Bea, as I can cook it ahead, leave it in a bit of olive oil, and then warm it up later when she is ready to eat. Something more delicate wouldn't work for that. When John and I are having pasta, we have wholegrain spelt spaghetti, or sometimes tagliatelle.
Tonight was fresh ravioli, stuffed with butternut squash and sage. I cooked it with peas, and served it with sage leaves fried until crisp in butter. Lots of broccoli with it, drizzled with seame oil.
My son's underfloor heating has been fixed. Now it has to warm up! Solid concrete floors.
They are off to Somerset for the weekend, staying in a cottage on a petting farm. The whole place has been booked for her family by their aunt for her 80th birthday. They have been before to the same place for an uncle's big birthday. I think it's going to be a bit wet. Sounds amazing though.
I've invited my son for Burns Night next week as he loves haggis so much. John and I will keep the whisky for before and afterwards. My son doesn't drink, but will bring along a substitute of his choice. We will wear 'Wee Jimmy' hats , pipe the haggis in (recording), and John will read the address. I usually get to stab it. I have a tartan runner for the table.
The haggis is currently in the fridge.

Barbara – I freeze grapes and it’s almost like a “mini ice”. Never thought of orange slices, tho.
Have a loaf of sourdough in the oven. Made 2 mistakes, thought it needed to bake at 400 and it needs to bake at 450. So I might just add a little time. Also, I totally forgot to let it rise. Oh well, we’ll eat that loaf. Next one I’ll remember to let rise.
Poor Egg – that darn tail does get in the way sometimes
Lanette – you know, I’m wondering if the antibiotic is doing this to my tummy? It’s such a high dose (2/day 3x/day).
Just finished my walk around the neighborhood. I’ve been wearing a scarf over my ears. Vince says I look like a grandmother. Well, I AM a grandmother! But in reality, it does make me look somewhat frumpy. But I’m not about to spend money on something to cover my ears when this will do
Have an appt with the orthopedist tomorrow about what feels like a callous on the bottom of my foot. I don't see the typical black dot so I'm pretty sure it's not a plantar wart. Not sure what to do, tho
Well, I found out what happens to sourdough when you don’t let it rise. It’s so dense it’s ridiculous. Right now I’m letting another loaf rise
Went to ceramics then to see a friend of mine, didn’t stay long, then to Publix to get a free gallon of ice cream. It’s usually $6. Glad I got it for free otherwise I wouldn't have gotten it.

Machka - I understand the fear of electric heaters, they are safer than older ones, but I still wouldn’t use one if I wasn’t watching it closely.
We live in a 1972 mobile home. The walls except in the living room and one wall in our bedroom have all been changed to drywall instead of the panelling so that has made a difference. I was shocked and so extremely grateful that none of our pipes froze over the weekend. We didn’t leave the water on constantly, but ran it frequently. I also ran the dishwasher and did laundry to help.
New mobile homes are much better built I believe.
I just cranked our thermostat up to 30, I am hoping a couple hours of that will get rid of the cold that seems to be lingering inside. It has warmed up to -14 outside so hopefully this will give the boost we need in here. If that fails, I may use an electric heater for a little bit I prefer not to.
Terri - Will the sleet freeze and make the roads icy?
Heather - what a wonderful idea to have the bag dropped off. I bet that a lot of people appreciate it and since they don’t have to actually deliver it they get more donations.
I fix the electronic things around here too.
What a shame your son and DIL are having issues with their newly renovated things.
Annie - Great news on the safe.
Allie - surgery, no matter how minor is nerve wracking, I’m sure he is out and safely tucked in at home now.
Mary - Welcome. Which maritime province are you from, I’m from NB living in AB. I’ve been here since Dec 28, 1997.
Lisa - I couldn’t even pretend to like bringing wood into the house anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the heat from a wood stove, I just don’t want to have to deal with all of the mess and work of it.
Egg sure has a personality.
Beth - that is a crazy amount of snow!
Michele - I have found the Nest to be particularly useful with the smart switches. I have a plug in light fixture that it makes so much easier to turn on/off.
I would get that callous checked fast, that is what I thought my Plantar Fasciitis was and let it go. Now I’m suffering terribly.
I think it was you that asked:
The Maritimes in Canada consist of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The Atlantic Provinces are these three plus Newfoundland and Labrador.
Vicki - I hope your day got better. It sounds like a nice lunch with your Grands.
Lanette - it’s not as cold today, only -14. It’s supposed to be +2 next weekend. It’s a very weird Winter.
Kay - I think a roast in the crockpot sounds delicious. Maybe that will be tomorrow’s supper.
I think that the massage helped something in my foot. It wasn’t as painful today as it has been. I’m still taking it fairly easy though. Although I did have to run to Costco tonight. I have been there twice this week already on Saturday for myself and I stopped to grab bins for my friend on the way to her house yesterday. Both time I looked at Coffe and envisioned a new can in my cupboard so passed it by. Today when the coffee jar was empty and I went to refill it I realized it was a massive jar of Ragu sauce I was envisioning. I can’t not have coffee in the house. Since I was there I grabbed a set of the bins I picked up for my friend yesterday and am hoping to spend some time tomorrow organizing the craft room a bit better. I can do most of it sitting.
I am really enjoying the new session we are taking. Technology has and continues to make such a difference in people’s lives. We often think of the negative effects it has and not the positive. We are learning about the different Assistive Devices there are tat allows non verbal students to communicate. Think Stephen Hawking.
Well it is now almost my bedtime so I should take my pills and head to bed.
My daughter’s fund is just over $5k now. Her friend that started it is going to be putting a post up that her and her husband will match all donations for the next week up to $2000. She then says “make us pay”. She hasn’t posted it officially yet, but what an incredibly sweet, genuine gesture. I cried. Of course.
Tracey in Edmonton, enjoying a balmy -17 this evening.
Oh funny story, one of my friends here downloaded the WTForecast app. When we were at -40 range her app was pretty accurate, but then it wasn’t. She had sent me a text about this on Sunday evening. She checked her settings and it all seemed to be correct. Today she again said, this isn’t right it says it’s supposed to be +4 the next couple of days. A while later she texted and told me she had it in Fahrenheit. At our -40 temps the numbers are equivalent. 😂

Back from weekly shopping trip, and have everything stached away. We woke this morning to a covering of snow, and -2*C. It’s a clear blue sky, so sure it will warm a little when the sun is fully out.
Tracey: The sleet was very brief, and the sun dried up the damp. However, it snowed again overnight (just a light covering) so we had to scrape the windscreen this morning.
Annie: 👍🏻on finding the will. Hope it all goes smoothly.
Allie: Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Miles.
Heather: Well done on sorting the heating.
The sun has just reached the terrace outside, but snow has started to gently fall again 😂 so not sure if it will melt or not. Fortunately, we aren’t planning to go anywhere.

Worked from home today.
That saved me an hour or more on the bus! I really appreciated that because it rained all day. Buses have this habit of either not running at all when it is raining ... or being very late.
Working from home also gave me the opportunity to nap in the middle of the day. I laid down for a quick shut-eye ... and ended up sleeping 2 hours. I can't believe how tired I've been since coming down with COVID. I was also freezing cold which is unusual for me.
However, when I was awake, I completed a section of code I've been working on for the past couple days and refamiliarised myself with what I was working on before Christmas. It's slowly coming together.
Then we had a Zoom with our bee group in the evening.

Ladycop: The falling pine cones sound like a lot of work. They do look pretty as decorations.
Heather: Interesting problems with neighbor with the bath water. Congrats on having the taxes done.
Michele: I hope the cramps go away. I hope the callous can be treated.
B23-Kale: Thank you--yes, lighter & brighter is better
Hmjack1561-Glad you have some sun!
Vickie: Great you were able to spend time with 2 of the grandchildren! Too bad their parents are having marital problems.
Margaret Turk: Thinking of you as as you handle your DH's final arrangements.
Tracey: I hope your house warmed up
Rebecca: Have fun and good luck learning Japanese
Machka: Hoping that your energy comes back quickly
Mary: Welcome
Allie: Great that Miles surgery went well!
Dr. Katiebug: Congrats on doing the 10,000 steps!
I am going into the rescue an hour later today because of the cold! I have so much to do at the house that I am not looking forward to it. I really just want to work at my house and I would love to bundle up and take a walk over at the college. I really need some exercise. I am treating myself to good food this week! Last night I had crab cakes, tonight Rosemary pork, Thursday night salmon and Friday night going out to eat. I will probably eat eggs until shopping day next Tuesday!
It was 18 degrees, probably warmer now!
Best,

Good morning ladies!
Still frozen outside here. We were going to take some stuff to goodwill and the library to donate, but only if the roads are clear.
I found some little beetles in the pantry. Time for a good clean out there.
Stay warm my friends!

Morning, my chickens, from the frigid dawn gently lightening the skies of Arkansas,
Was supposed to get everything charged up last night and spaced it, so my phone and my Fitbit are both plugged in at the moment. My memory for the little things is so sketchy these days, but in all honesty, it's never been THAT great. When I stopped working, I stopped writing things down, and I'm starting to do that again.
Wild dreams last night, and sure enough, when I looked at my Fitbit sleep record, there were half a dozen REM episodes. Each one was sharply different, I know, one clear one had Matthew McConaughey in it, and I remember turning over thinking, OK, let's see if I can get back to that one! The last one woke me at right about 6am, seeing two men walking up my drive, talking to each other, gesticulating, laughing, not threatening in any way. Just odd. Doesn't happen in this country. I woke up trying to decide whether to get my BB gun and take it out with me to greet them or not! I'm sure it's something from the cracker-factory levels of my mind, but not going to let it worry me.
In fact, I'm not letting much worry me these days. I marvel at how peaceful my life has become and am grateful for it. If I mention it to Corey, he just says, "Yes, and you deserve it." Helps to know he understands. I don't see this lifestyle as boring, detached, or unfulfilled. I take care of him, take care of the house (which takes care of both of us), and work on various projects. It feels very engaged, loving, and sustainable. When I was working and stressed most of the time, even the happy times saw me peeking around every corner waiting for the bus to run me over. Haven't felt that way in quite some time. Regaining a large part of my health is certainly part of it.
I'm all for finding peace: 🙃👀😀🤪
Hope it's a lovely day for all... the first blush of sunrise is just beginning to reflect across to the western skies I can see from here.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

I'm reorganising a couple of my kitchen cabinets this afternoon, with the frying pan racks I bought. One of the pans is too big to fit the space, but I do have another spot to try out. Should be fun.

Going to visit Miles.. he is sore doesn't want to bend at all poor little guy4 -
Sorted out the cabinets. Took no time at all. Donating one ribbed cast iron pan I never use, throwing one not non stick away. I've moved cake tins to the utility room. My huge frying pans could not be racked anywhere, but I now have space to store them flat. Can now reach anything I want easily.
Very pleased.
