Margaret-glad to see that arrangements, etc. fell into place. Your pre-planning has been very helpful.
Allie-luckily Miles wont' remember much of this ordeal-hope healing continues to be a quick process.
Beth-Buffalo does have a winter wonderland at the moment-stay safe!
Lisa-thanks for sharing the article on the 93 year old! That is incredible.
Michele-I'm not surprised about the calf tightness leading to foot problem. My PT says my foot arthritis is compounded by all the tendons, etc. going to foot being tight. They gave me a new modification on an exercise Monday and I could really tell how tight my left calf is.
I have read through quickly. Work is a terror right now-extremely busy due to vacancies and another one upcoming. Working on getting things filled but want right choices. Hopefully in a month or so things settle a bit.
Off to stretches then start my work day. Have a meeting out of town (only about a 30 minute drive). Will work from home before and after. Have food pantry tonight which will be uplifting-will wear vest, etc.
Someone asked (Michele?) about vest-it uses a battery pack like you use for phone/laptop etc. The size you get is based upon particular vest. I like that I can use it for other things. Gloves have rechargeable batteries.
Take care all,

Good morning ladies!
Margaret - so glad your pre-planning has worked out. I found your husband's obituary on the website. He was a sharp, very engaged guy and a good partner for you. And glad you have your faith, family and friends. I think it makes a difference.
Rori - Happy belated Birthday. Nice your special friend gave you a neat present. I agree, there's something about a book with photos.
Heather - enjoy the cuddle! I miss those days.
Barbie - neat sign in your car, what a great idea so people don't panic about Annie being locked in a hot car.
Tracey - When I had injured the ball of my foot, my podiatrist said to do calf stretches every day. The kind we see runners do all of the time, one foot back, the other knee bent, hands against a wall. I thought that was silly, did them sporadically. My calf muscles weren't the problem. Then I saw on Bob & Brad where all of that ties in with the muscles, ligaments and tendons on the bottom of the foot, so now I try to do them daily and it's making a difference. Not sure if this works for plantar fasciitis however.
Rebecca - have you been feeling little earthquakes?
Lisa - glad the glasses are covered, happy to hear the VA is improving services and they are close by. Beautiful afghan, by the way. Kels will love it. Happy to hear things are clicking and contentment is setting in. I try to get there as often as I can, whatever the circumstances. To borrow from Carly Simon - "these are the good old days."
Well, I'm not a fan of cold and snow. This should be gone in several days. No way I'd move back to Indiana. This past few days have been nerve-racking. Fear of falling/slipping even though I had cleats on my shoes. Worry about the hens. Worry about pipes freezing. Upset stomach. No appetite. Hard to sleep. The first real anxiety I've felt in a long, long time - since DH's final year of life. A control issue - I couldn't control his illness and I can't control the weather. Of course I can't, but anxiety has cut a deep groove over the years. Gratitude list helped.
I also think part of it might be Walmart withdrawal. I need a fix - people, bright lights and business other than slogging hot water out to the hens every 2 hours. I want to hear about people's disgust with the ice. Tales about cars nearly going in the ditch and power outages and how they coped. Something deeper than Facebook comments, even if it's a minute conversation with someone while standing in line at a store.
Doing much better today. Collette coming this morning. Yesterday didn't work out as everything was covered with frozen rain, slicker than snot, over compacted ice. Rain has since washed some of it away, ice is very slowly turning to slush. Bleak but it will be gone in a few days.
Better scoot and put more wood in the stove. There's something about that yellow fire and warmth that takes some part of my brain back to ancient ancestors, who sat huddled around a fire in a cave when chickens were probably pterodactyls.

Good morning ladies!
My sister is taking my dad to the register of wills this morning and I am staying home for a Zoom doctor appointment. I feel guilty about not going, but they really don't need me.
I will likely cancel horse today. It's too cold to enjoy riding.
My sister is helping me take charge of the kitchen. We threw out a lot of old stuff, and some baking stuff. We put the big mixer in the basement which helped a lot with the counter space. We tossed the can opener that doesn't work right.
So the first traces of my mother are leaving the house and it's good so far.
And we ate leftovers last night. There is still a huge amount of leftover lasagna and potatoes on the back porch. But things are getting back under control.
We have one day of reasonable roads before the next snow tomorrow. Hope my sister can fly safely.
Have a wonderful day my friends!

Summery photos ...
My overgrown drystream garden when we returned from Canada in November. I'd like to say it has been tamed somewhat but I can't really. I've been so busy ... and then sick ... so I haven't had time to do much with it. However, it grows and the bees love it!

Lisa -I forgot to thank you for that link about the fella who picked up rowing when he was 73. And now, he's a super fit 93 year old. Very inspiring.
I read recently that we need to "bank muscle" before 50 or thereabouts. After that, it's harder to put muscle on - some folks can if they are dedicated to all of the training, workouts, protein, etc.
But for many of us, we're doing good to maintain what we've hopefully banked, or at least really slow the loss.
I'm not back into any strength training routine, but have noticed when I'm doing the "house walks", I can carry 5# weights in each hand without shoulder pain/strain anymore. Several months ago I was at 3# and 5# was dicey, so it's heartening to be getting back to where I was at least.
Lanette8 -
Lisa - forgot to say that the afghan colours make me think of Hawaiian sea, sky, and sandy beaches.
I've finished my first ever canvas painting. The kids gave us them for Christmas. I started off in acrylic, but my set doesn't have good colours and I get horrible messes when I mix them, so today I finished off the last bits with watercolour.
From being in despair that it would never come together, I do now like it! It's day four, but I didn't give up.
Now to fry the halloumi for tonight's curry.
Love Heather UK xxxxxx

Learned last night the brother who believes all family artifacts are his is coming. He currently does not have a permanent address this will not stop him from taking or saying something. So as I get ready for the family and out of town guests who will come to our home after the funeral I will put the bulk of my treasures away. He will be staying at my son's house with my other brother and his wife so I will have to do that there too as I prepare for their coming. No I will not offer to let him live there!!!! I did go into a bit of hyper drive to work out my excess energy in his coming! I would rather do this than argue with him. The old saying goes Wedding and Funerals brings out the best and worst in people.
It is what it is! I have had so much positive help I have to just take it in stride. Getting together with a friend on Saturday and she and her daughter are making the video to display on the screen. Yes blessed!

Good morning, my friends, from the 40-degree warmer climes of Arkansas, which STILL aren't above freezing, however,
I slept like a baby last night, only one short trip to the littlest room in the house, and 8-1/2 hours of sleep! I'm so pleased to sleep well and fascinated that I'm sleeping through noises and such things now, which I never could before. That includes the clanks and slides and bumps of Corey coming in to get dressed, and the gate alarm as he leaves. They don't bother me in the slightest most mornings!
Heather - This disease has changed that part of our lives, as well, and led me to request a "full-body hug" on occasion. It's harder to ask than I would have thought, but terribly necessary for my peace of mind. I hope it helps him, too, but speaking on feelings isn't Cor's forte. When I asked him how he was doing with the absence of intimacy, his answer was "About as good as you are." You're so right to request it, though, as touch starvation is very real. Here's a link to an article on it from Medical News Today. There are remedies in that article for those who don't have someone in their lives for affective touch, and one of them is exercise. I like the painting, it's got depth and movement that's quite intriguing. I'm thinking seriously about starting to play with mixed media, as well, don't know why it's hard to start that thought process, but it is, so I'm letting it marinate as necessary.
Margaret - You stay in my heart. There are still hard feelings in my family from who got what after my mother's funeral, and that was 25 years ago now...
Annie - You sound quite a bit more peaceful. How's your dad doing with all the changes?
Machka - Still love your dry stream, even if it's a bit chaotic at the moment. Love the "stop shoulding," poster, too. Might steal that and send it to my daughter.
Putting my hand up for the person who drinks a lot of tea, all year round. I have a hard time with plain water though, and really enjoyed the one stretch where I could drink it at will. That passed again, unfortunately, so iced tea all day long again.
I think I'm going to run down to Walmart this morning - I have a bunch of light bulbs that weren't what I was looking for that I need to return (one of the hazards of ordering online) and then I'll pick up some fresh hamburger at Aldi on the way back. Corey wants burgers tonight, and it sounded good to me. One other stop, most likely, and then back home before lunchtime...
Hope it is or was a good day for all,
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

Today’s gratitude: Beach stroll date with T later.
Lisa Gorgeous afghan your DD will love it. Glad to hear the VA is trying and sometimes succeeding to make it better.
Barbie the Sasha story made me smile. Can’t keep a good girl down… what boundless energy she had.
Michele glad to hear the new antibiotic is helping. Wish the DDS could fit the crown now so that when you return, assuming all’s well, the crown could be placed, but alas that’s probably not how it works.
Tracey “practicum orientation tomorrow” Wow that’s coming up so soon. You’re really rocking this. So proud of you!
Rori I remember when living in Idaho 40F DID feel like a day at the beach  Now we shiver and complain when the temp dips below 50F Safe travels!
Heather Bravissima!
Ginny ((hugs)) tight tendons seem to be causing/contributing to my shoulder problem too. Ah, the joys of ageing.
Machka the Stop Shoulding Yourself was most apt. Thanks!
Lanette thanks for the Bob and Brad reminder, will look at their rotator cuff stretches today! Glad to hear you’ll get out of the house today and talk to people in line. We need fact to face conversation.
Annie, forgive me but I hope the weather extends your sister’s stay. So glad she’s been there to support you and help with your dad. One foot in front of the other.
Margaret well done channeling that excess energy, securing your treasures and mentally setting your boundaries. Your strength is inspiring.
Whoops the tummy time alarms are squeaking. Time to feed the pooches.
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Cold vs Heat when I was 12 years old, we moved to a house with an upstairs. There were 3 bedrooms up there for us kids. It didn’t have heat. The only heat it got was from the stairwell which had a landing and took a left turn with walls on both sides before getting to us. I was always cold. I had so many blankets that I could hardly move at night. Getting dressed in the morning for school was not fun. Floor was ice cold and windows were frosted over. I think this is why I HATE being cold! New Mexico is the place for me. The heat is there, but without humidity, not a real problem for me. AS it is, I’m sitting in front of the heater right now and the thermometer in the RV says it is 76 degrees! I really need to turn the heater down. It is warming up right now at 57 and sunny outside right now. Predicted to get to 65 outside today.

Good morning!
More snow here near Buffalo. The snow band moved more south into my area dumping about a foot of new snow and has now moved back up into the City of Buffalo. My son works in Buffalo and says only 10% of the workforce came in even though travel bans were lifted this morning and he was told to be there. Traveling was difficult and slow. Part of living here. I wish he had taken my SUV but he insisted his little Subaru Legacy was good enough. I think it's too low to the ground.
Margaret ... family. Such weird things happen to people's sense of appropriateness when someone dies. Continuing to pray.
Annie ... I'm glad your sister is helping you make some changes. Hugs.
Yesterday I spent the day de-cluttering. Cleaned out my produce drawers in the refrigerator. Made cabbage soup with a cabbage that was getting a little sorry looking, apple cake with apples that were definitely soft but still edible and juiced some old limes to store in the freezer for another time.
Then I tackled some storage shelves in the basement. I'm going to need my husband to sit with me and help me get rid of the office supplies I've hoarded down there. Half used tablets, binders, old labels, office products no one uses anymore. Glitter. Multiple containers of glitter? And random art supplies that I've had since I was in elementary school!
Today's mission includes decluttering the rest of my kitchen cabinets, doing laundry and starting to sort loose coins I've been saving for the last 20 years. I can't even lift the containers. I was just going to dump them in a commercial coin counter, but I want to see if there are any "valuable" coins hidden away. You never know!

I found and bought these at Hobby Lobby yesterday. The bottle beads looked like fun! It also covers my bead hobby I listed for this year. The drawing book is for fun, learning. I never had confidence in drawing since First Grade when my stick figure drawing was compared to someone else’s talented drawing. That really upset me and stayed with me all my life. Time to face it and fix it!
The second picture is my rubber ducky from the other day I forgot to post.

Heather - It is ALL your fault. I found "halloumi-style" cheese at Aldi, and picked it up just on the off chance. Dusted it with Cajun seasoning after I got it out of the pan.
Oh.
My.
Stars.
Where has this BEEN all my life? That was SO good...
Thank you, and now there's one more thing I need to avoid at Aldi's. It was worth every calorie.
Oh my,
Wandering around in the yummy haze of a fried cheese stupor,

Beth: Yesterday I went to the rescue and then to the Coin counter at the Kroger. Alas it was broken and a technician had been called. I was disappointed and still have the coins sitting in my car. Congrats on your decluttering! My trunk is full of boxes for donations! I hate that the house looks like it is in dis-array when it is really cleaner!
RV Rita: Did I tell you I lived 2 years in New Mexico in the 80's. I loved Sante Fe and Taos!
I am not sleeping at night. The night goes on forever. I am going to try melatonin and see if this helps. I am cooking some asparagus and salmon for lunch. No energy today and can't get focused. Might just listen to an audio book and hope I can accomplish something this evening!
Best,

Alright Lisa and Heather - A few weeks ago I bought some and googled how to cook it and ended up with fried salty dish sponge! I just figured it was a heather thing, she is a more adventurous eater than I am BUT Lisa is not usually our adventurous eater! Did I just get some weird bad piece?

After work went to WalMart. Made a loaf of sourdough. I like the way the loaf looks when it’s risen in the pan, the top is so much smoother. I have another loaf that I’m letting rise in the pan before I bake it
Ginny – I need to look up and see if using a foam roller would help the calf. I would think so. What modification did you get?
Lanette – at work today I did the stretch you described, one foot behind the other. I can do this while I’m standing at the sink doing the prep.
Heather – I think that’s one of the best pictures you’ve ever done.
Margaret – sounds like you’ve got things really under control for the funeral. Great!
Barbara – I COULD have he dentist make the crown so it’s ready to put on when I get back. The thing is that the doc who did the root canal puts this “cap” on the tooth and my dentist files it down, then makes the temporary crown while he orders the permanent one. I would hate to have the temporary fall off while in FL, I wouldn’t know a dentist that I’d trust down there. And I’ve had temporaries fall off. So I’m just going to wait. I was told that the “cap” could be good for 2 to 3 months so I think I’ll be OK with just that. I probably will just have to chew on the one side of my mouth, but that’s OK
Off to walk to Food Lion since Vince needs bananas and they have grapes on sale. Admitted, they’re cheaper (not by much) when Aldi has them on sale, but Food Lion’s are quite good.
Soup kitchen tomorrow then we prebowl.

The halIoumi I've just fried just melted into a puddle.i persevered and it crisped up eventually. Usually it is small cubes of heaven. This was more like small pancakes than cubes. The recipe is from Waitrose. Halloumi and spinach curry. I add a red pepper at the onion stage and LOTS of spinach.
Hallouni used to be a big thing when I lived in London, among the Greek Cypriot community. A great help for vegetarians. Yes, it is spongy. I can't resist it.
I'm adding turmeric to as many things as I can from today. Worth a try. My friend L warned me about some turmeric that has lead as an additive. Mine seems to be OK. You can test it. Something is going to kill me in the long run, and it's not going to be turmeric. My legs were MUCH better today. Crossing fingers. These things go in flares.
Phoned L today. Sometimes it's difficult, because she has no family other than an older sister and envies mine. But, she does teach yoga, has loads of friends, is always busy, and is off to Morocco next week for a choir week in Taroudant. She is definitely in a pretty good place.
G is also much better. She has made big changes and moved forward. It's never too late!
Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -

Busy morning..
Went to Costco to bring back Diapers,Tracy only wants Honest Disposables now without all the chemicals in it,and picked up a few things, had Doris with me,then went to Aldi .. stopped at a pizza place to get a gift certificate ,and then to dollar tree and back to Doris house.. then stopped to drop off stuff to Tracy ..

warm or hot tea for me. All types of black teas until a bit after noon then decaf. Love chai tea flavors, not a big fan of most of the fruit herbal teas.
No iced tea for me- iced is instant asthma attack for me. Can't eat anything cold or even cool unless I have hot tea to drink with it(yep, ice cream with hot tea is the only way I can enjoy it). Even yogurt or other things cold from the fridge will do it. Have my inhalers with me all the time but just try and not get cold things- when we go out, it is "water, no ice with a slice of lemon or lime"2 -
Good morning, ladies.
We have had a couple days of a bit milder weather but the extreme cold continues at night. Lucy is back to doing her business outside and I'm sure she is happier about that (so am I). I see some of the states is under a lot of snow. Hope everyone stays safe.
Tracey, sorry you are suffering with plantar fascitis (sp?). I know what you are going through as I dealt with that about ten years ago. For me, it lasted a year before finally clearing up. Very painful condition. I recall doing a series of stretching exercises that my doctor suggested. Not sure if it really helped as it took so long to clear up. Hopefully you won't be suffering as long.
Our house stayed relatively warm during the extreme cold but we did have a bit of ice build up on the inside of the windows. The house has triple pane windows and normally they stay nice and clear of any moisture. One thing that we had to keep checking and clearing out was the furnace pipe vent to the outside. It was icing up and the ice was covering the vent opening. Hubby cleaned it out every morning and evening during the cold snap. He said the furnace has a sensor that will shut off the furnace if the vent totally covers up. I don't think I would trust that though and was glad he was keeping an eye on it. We have a furnace that is a high energy efficient one and it is a common problem that homeowners in cold climates have to be mindful of.

Hugs to Margaret. So glad your burden is lessened by your good advanced planning.
Annie: Think of you daily. Stay strong, girl.
Tina: Where in CA are you? I am going to L.A. on Sunday and will take a slow, multi-day drive to San Diego. beginning on Thurs 1/25. PM me if you are interested in meeting up.
Thanks for the birthday greetings. Sadly, all the lunches, skating and other fun stuff planned were all cancelled due to the bitter cold temps and messy road conditions. I did enjoy 2 solid duvet days. My gentleman friend gifted me a hard copy of Barbra Streisand's biography, so now I have the benefit of re-reading certain passages and looking at all the photos, which is never an option with audiobooks.
The gym I use is part of the condo community's amenities. It is a block away, and although not as well maintained as I would like, it is spacious and well appointed. My issue is boredom. Sometimes I just can't face the same ol' same ol' machines. Then I remember Pip's boot! LOL.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.
