Last night was a challenge because of people shooting off guns and fireworks close enough to our neighborhood to be noisy at our house even with the windows closed. It started at about 7PM and lasted past midnight. In years past, Jake slept in the other bedroom and I slept with the dogs. For several years I played music on my phone which was soothing and masked most of the noise. This year with Jake and Annie, I let Jake take the lead. We made it through but Jake barely slept and I was awakened frequently. We all finally fell asleep about 2AM and didn't get up until much later than our usual time. Now Jake is napping and the house is quiet 😀🌻
Lisa I applaud both the wonderfulness of your new room and how you and Corey were able to maintain balance and sanity through the process

Kylia I liked what he said about consumption too. I commented on it but I must have forgotten to save it. The third video was about water and food choices in the grocery store which I pretty much follow already. I did go to U-tube to subscribe and watched the one on digestion and the importance of giving your body time to find its rhythm and why it is important to not eat after dinner so you get a natural 12-14 break in eating.4

Neighbors all around us were shooting off fireworks until sometime after 2AM- I woke up a few times, neighbors on the one side of us were still in their back yard talking, thankfully they turned the music down a little after 1:30 or so. They were still up talking when son left for work at 5:30AM. I heard them a little after that one of the times I woke up.
DH worked, went to his mom's then messaged me to see if I wanted to go out shopping(picking up stuff for his mom)- I was just doing a breathing treatment so told him if it was just his store, no thanks, otherwise to give me a half hour-Guess he didn't like that-was all fine I will just do it by myself and something about how his year is going to be. What ever. I didn't rush and he did her shopping by himself while I stayed in bed. I did get up to feed the cats- they didn't care that I was sick, they were still hungry.
Made a pot of white beans with the ham from Christmas and I will make some corn bread in a bit.
Dinner last night was good- lots of leftover seafood won ton soup. Had some for lunch-dh is having some now.
Drinking SOOOO MUCH hot tea-lots of bathroom breaks.
About time for another nebulizer treatment- trying to stay on top of it so I don't end up on the machine for 5 weeks again like has happened too often.

Lisa - I echo Barbie's comment. You have got it done so fast and maintained your balance throughout. It will be a wonderful addition to your lives. I'm looking forward to seeing it with furniture.
We won't be able to do all our exercises tomorrow, let alone our writing, because the girls are arriving at 9.30. I might get some rowing in, 20 minutes, but I like to look presentable for them. They notice.
I expect some Art will be done. Max may come over later. I went to the shop today and bought sufficient supplies for any permutation of numbers and appetites. I have gluten free stuff for Edie.
Their mum is picking them up after lunch and then Waitrose is delivering. I will probably make halloumi curry for dinner, if I've got the energy.
I was reading my book through this morning and was amazed at how much I had to change, on a third read through! At some point you just have to say, "enough!" Still dreading writing the blurb.
Just watched the French Maigret, Bruno Cremer. I think the series is coming to an end. I will really miss my weekly dose of French and good acting and production values. Boo!
Tracey - I just love your grandchildren! I wish I could visit while they are there. We are blessed.

Hello to everyone. Happy to see a group for weight loss after 50. I hope to stop in and make some new connections - always good to feel like I'm not alone with the struggle!9

Allie: I intended to go for a walk today but stated up until 11:30 and just this was enough to make me tired this afternoon
so I have spent much of the afternoon in bed!
Happy New Year to everyone! My word...and I stole it from someone here who used in a previous year is Balance. Balancing exercise with decluttering, social life with decluttering and cooking with getting some take out so I am not always cleaning the kitchen by myself.
Thank you all for your support last year!
My son believes I am moving too fast, looking at a car and a couch. It kind of brought me down this afternoon and I was already tired from reading about hybrids/electric cars until 11:30 last night. I have had a couple of Honda Accords since 1997 and have had the same interior. I am real tired of it....what is that 25 years. I bought the couch I had in the living room after 9/11 so maybe in 2002....what is that 21 years. I put it in the family room...I didn't throw it out.
I have the money for a 2018 to 2020 regular car or hybrid because we (basically I) sold the disability van...and that was months ago. I am really irked...truth be told. I have to hire a handy man because of things he didn't do while he was here for 5 days.
It is lonely but I will just buy the couch and the car on my own. Maybe I will meet somebody, I wasn't going to date but this kind of thing does lead you back to it. I wonder what 2024 will bring!
And I think I will stop paying their way for things. We can do less together. They can come and visit and if we do something we can all pitch in together.
You know what kills me, they asked if I wanted their couch...it is about 5 years old and they want to replace it for a new
"vibe". My current car is a 2007 Accord, that I acquired in 2012, because my previous car was a standard and I wanted him to learn to drive on an automatic. My current car has 170k miles on it and my previous car had 190k. I guess I would like a new "vibe".
Well you all have children so I know I am speaking to the choir!
Go Michigan! I am about to turn it on!
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia

Y'all kinda saved me from myself on this one - I got one box opened and was slugging my way through putting together some of the pieces when Corey came back from a grocery run. He opened the big box and got it all spread out... and came to find out that the pieces for the couch seats and backs were completely missing, along with seat cushions and a few other pieces. Truly, what we wanted most was to sit and watch the deer, etc. But... no comfortable place to sit.
And, since it's a holiday, I knew darn well I wasn't going to get any good answers from customer service regarding rectifying the situation. So, I could have a fit and fall in it, which was tempting, or we could just put together what we did have - the tables and the cushion storage box. So we shrugged, put together what we could, and stashed the bits that did get here until we can get the rest in. Tomorrow, I'll call them and be kind, even when they get me to the third person who can't help me. I'll eventually find someone who can, and we'll get what we ordered. Might take another week... but who knows? Hopefully soon.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Thanks Barbie for starting us off on the new month and new year!
Right now for this month my phrase will be "to persevere"! Need to get to Feb in one piece, and see both Navy sons!!!
This year is our 40th anniv. so we are planning to go to a resort on the coast. I'm excited! Our anniversary is in the fall, but we will probably go in the summer because there's trails to walk around and the weather will be nicer. Not that I can't walk in the rain, but I would rather not.
This year will see two sailor sons heading to Japan. They will be about 10+ hours travel away from each other, but hopefully they can meet up a couple of times for an on island leave vacation.
This year middle son will be looking for a job. I hope it goes well and is a smooth transition.

Happy New Year, ladies! Thank you, Barbie, for starting the new thread for January 2024 and for your wisdom. My goal for 2024 is "resilience." I am still trying to recover from the loss of my husband, and the holidays have been particularly challenging. I am happy that my work will start again soon since this is my "happy place" right now. Thank you all for sharing your struggles, triumphs, and losses in this forum. Your resilience in the face of life's challenges has been a source of inspiration to me! I admire so many of you for facing life with courage and overcoming serious health issues, losses of loved ones, and so many other challenges life has thrown at you!

Tracey I want to be one of your grands, like I want to be one of KJ’s day care kids. the New Years pics, looks like fun times.
Machka wow, what a year. Most wonderfully your successful retirement from the legal assistant. VERY well done.
KJ those pothole pics were real tea-snorters. Thanks!
Lanette thanks for the Dr. Matt videos. Feel like you, Barbie and the gals here are the healthy voices he suggests we surround ourselves with. Halfway through the second one I realized I could be marching in place while watching  Will watch the 7 healthy habits one again as I didn’t catch some of what he said. Time to find an audiologist [sigh]
Evie congrats on the pleasant surprise!
Welcome @NJMomof3 and @reall180 !
Barbie Loved those mfp carols and songs.
Heather, nose, ears, feet (and in my case belly) all continue to grow. Heels? Good riddance!
Rosemarie have you decided on the blue leather couch? Is it still on sale? ((hugs))
Kate in TN good to see you back! ((hugs held extra long))
Tumble just reminded me that its way past Tummy Time, so . . .
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Hi Everyone and Happy New Year!
New to the group but love seeing the support for one another.
Although my username gives the impression I’m in NC, I’m actually in VA. Just turned 52 on 12/20.
My word for this year is change. I’m applying for jobs all over so it’s highly likely that we will be moving this summer. I’m also wanting to change some behaviors. I’ve heard that the Atomic Habits book is a great guide. I ordered it but I won’t get it for a few days. Has anyone read it?
I’m really committing to increase my water intake to at least 60oz a day. I got a new water bottle to help me with that. I also got an AppleWatch for my birthday so I have a goal of 20 mins of activity each day. Planning to increase that amount once I achieve minimum consistency.
Looking forward to a great year!
Jen in VA

KJ-terrific pothole story! I am sure Grand Rapids is not the only community with such a problem!
Rosemarie-I am very fortunate in that my children stay out of my purchases. Of course, I tend to send a picture and say "Look what I got." It is hard for us to learn we can do things for us because we want to and we have the means. Buy the car and couch if YOU want them and can afford them. I frequently pick up meals, etc. for my kids but that is because I want to and can afford it and I tell them it is really their dad paying because I'm using his Social Security I get.
Rita-you did so well on your goals last year-especially good on the no drinking! And I think you have as many words as you need to make sense to you-I can see how they are connected.
Lanette-thanks for sharing the Dr. Matt videos. His approach makes so much sense.
Barbie-those songs are wonderful! Whoever came up with them was/is very clever.
Kylia-my cleaning not quite as ambitious as yours, but I am pleased with my efforts and the current status of house.
Allie-I hope you gain more energy this year.
Pip-good start to the New Year.
Rebecca-sounds like you have exciting times this year! Your son's being fairly close sounds terrific.
Had nice quiet New Year's Eve and Day. SIL came over for lunch. Showed her how to send pictures via text. Impressed she does know how to send texts via dictation (when she has the cursor in place). Downloaded software updates on phone for her while hooked up to my wifi (phone maintenance is a foreign concept to her!)
Ate too much junk food today and did not log all of it! Think I need to follow Dr. Matt's lead and toss the last of the Christmas stuff!
Did not get work stuff tended to-will work on it tomorrow. Spent time getting stuff tended to around here. Will get some things for work tomorrow. Have PT at 11 and podiatrist at 3. Going in for toe nail trim. Hard for me to do them since hip replacements. My mom developed an infection in fold of small toe that went undetected and it lead to amputation (chemo impacted her ability to fight infection). Anyway since it is hard for me to cut-prefer to get it done and have feet checked every couple of months.
Believe my word for the year is "centered." As in, I need to remain centered in all things. Going to take care of me so I can take care of others things. Off to mediate tonight and then watch some tv before sleep.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Jen in VA ( @NCGatorJen ), welcome to a lovely group of women, drop in anywhere you feel comfortable and comment or question. I know I've seen people here discussing Atomic Habits, so hope you find what you need!
Kate in TN ( @B23_Kate ), welcome to you, too. Our Rosemarie just went through her first without her husband, and others are in various others are in various stages, almost always someone here to talk to.
@really180 , welcome! Drop in anywhere to any conversation that suits.
KJ, the potholes were stinkin' hilarious - I especially loved the "happy little potholes, but I could hear it in Bob Ross' voice!
Barbie, Was singing along with at the songs, too... Wonderful!
Rosemarie - You will find that making the decisions yourself is more fun than it sounds like! While getting others' advice or information is one thing, having others approve or disapprove of your decisions becomes a burden all on its own. You'll get there, my dear.
Had a good day, physically, but have just been uninterested in food pretty much all day. Not necessarily a good thing, but I try to pay attention to my body's cravings and aversions. Corey made meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and I was just uninterested. That's OK, I'll be hungry tomorrow, I'm sure. Blood tests tomorrow, early afternoon, but luckily, they're not the fasting kind.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR - Back in front of the TV, crochet in progress, Corey's headed for his pre-work tub bath soon, and I may go to bed early.

Debbie His response is his problem. You needed to be resting anyway. Hope you getting to feeling better soon.
Allie My DH didn't get up until 9 am yesterday. That is extremely rare for him. Like you, he must have needed it.
Rosemarie I don't believe that anyone can tell you when you are or are not ready to make changes. Major decisions aren't reccomended for a year, but I don't think replacing a sofa or a car constitue major! You go, Girl! We've got you! I think it was Lanette? That threw open the curtains and started brightening up the house. You do you!
Kate You are in my favorite state! You are welcome. It was a page from my 2023 calendar. It is now hanging on my bedside. Remembering I am worthy of peace has been hard for me. So this was so appropriate for 2024. "Resilience" is a great word based on your 2023.
Rebecca I am glad you have reestablished communications especially since they will both be so far away. We will persevere! I already put that on my bathroom mirror.
Jen Welcome! Yes, this is a wonderful group of supportive ladies! VA/DC/MD is where I call home.
Really180 Welcome!
Barbara Didn't find anything exciting in the drawer.
I managed to get my bathroom cleaned, guest bed cleared off, and the desk drawer cleared out. I even changed the light bulb in my shower light. I asked DH to do it 6 months ago. He couldn't figure out how to get the cover down. I figured if I broke it then I would just replace it. All done with no breakage or falling. The good thing is my house is set for success! We got the last of Christmas in the barn. I serviced my hot tub. I had forgotten my glasses at friend's house last night. She said she would drop-off when they were out today.....I called at 630 tonight ....she forgot...DH and I went and picked them up. Now relaxing.
Back to work tomorrow. It pays the bills and medical insurance. I like most of my customers.
Healing thoughts!
Hugs!
Love,
Kylia in Ohio
