Flea Happy Anniversary!

Went to have the root canal. I do have a bit of infection so he put an antibiotic on it and I have to return in 2 weeks to be sure it’s all gone. Then I have to go to my dentist to have a crown put on. I’d really like this all done before I go to FL so I’m thinking that as soon as I can get back to talking normal, I’ll call his office and set up an appt to be fitted for the crown going on the assumption that the infection is gone. If it’s not, then I’ll just cancel the appt, but I think it will be gone.
Trying to eat some steel cut oats. I’d forgotten that when you get novacaine you can’t eat solid food until the numbness wears off. I just had some applesauce.
M – added sugar is in almost all foods, ketchup, salad dressing, breakfast cereals, yogurt, protein/cereal bars, baked beans, BBQ sauce, spaghetti sauce, granola, just to name a few. It seems like so many foods (actually, almost all of them that are processed even a little bit) have added sugars. Did you mean what foods contain added sugars or what foods do I eat that contain added sugar?

Simone – welcome! One of the absolute great things about this group is that there are people with every sort of issue you can imagine so there is always someone who totally understands your feelings. Keep coming back for support/encouragement.
I just got up from a 2 hr nap. I usually don’t do something like this. I got up at the same time I usually wake for work for the root canal, but I think going there while not physically draining was emotionally draining. I didn’t realize that it takes 2-3 weeks for a permanent crown to come in and that would be cutting it REAL close to when we leave for FL (not sure exactly when we’ll be leaving). I talked to the gal at the dentist’s office and she said that what the endodontist will put on would be more stable than a temporary crown and that I could wait even as much as 3 months before I get the permanent crown. So I’ll call the office when we get back to get the crown.

Vince got most of the Christmas decorations in while I was sleeping. Then I helped him some. He doesn’t think he wants to go to ceramics tonight and I’d only go if he did. Still feeling a bit out of sorts
Just got an email from a dear friend of mine. We’ve been friends since high school. She lives in Switzerland but comes to the US every few years to see family. She went for an emergency hysterectomy but because she was bleeding so much, they couldn’t remove the tumor (sarcoma). She’s supposed to go back to the hospital later this month to have it removed. The surgery will be about 8 to 10 hours. She’s afraid that she won’t live

Michele - Sorry about your friend in Switzerland. It does sound scary. I think you stayed with her when Bryan got married. Wasn't Vince ill in hospital?

Tina - Beautiful scenery. Tourism is always a mixed blessing. I don't go near the beach on a hot Bank Holiday. But it does preserve some things that would be lost.

Thank you for the welcome. I will try to catch up on all the conversations in my spare time. I am a full-time caregiver for my husband who has Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and gastroparesis, and I'm battling a torn meniscus and baker's cyst both in the same knee.
If anyone has any suggestions for upper body exercises for a 61yr old, I would deeply appreciate it.
My treadmill is off limits at this point.

Michele-the oral surgeon I am going to has 6:45 am appointment times (even if it isn't your first visit-I think he likes getting out earlier some days. Even if it is just paperwork someone there is working! Hope all goes well for your friend-scary times,

Got some more stuff done today, Headed down a rabbit hole. Need some new cookware. Don't want to buy tons but just some basic pieces. Want to get some of the non-toxic stuff (or at least it is considered so today). I am just thinking about decent stainless steel-any suggestions/advice?
Well, back to work tomorrow. Did well on exercise today. Have been up since 3:30 (I did go to sleep around 8:30 so there is that). Going to hit my evening meditation and crash.

Machka I grew up on Stouffer's frozen dinners, hamburger helper (think kraft mac n cheese in box but add hamburger), canned or frozen. The only time that was different was when we lived in Alabama. We were so poor that if we couldn't grow or catch it, we often went hungry. When I lived in the Philippines, the only thing we bought on base was meat occasionally. We mainly ate local. I prefer your style of eating. DH likes his burgers, but has been spoiled and doesn't do a lot of processed anymore .
Well......I forgot my hair appointment tonight! It was even in my calendar on my phone. When I finished cleaning up from dinner, I sat down and saw reminder and text from S. I feel terrible for standing her up. Just when I think I am in control of things...lol!

Raining here again but I am enjoying it.
Feeling about the same-parts of the day I feel better than others- still doing breathing treatments about every 4 hrs or so.
Making what I want for dinner tonight- son is out with his friends(love that he still hangs out with the same "kids" that he went to kindergarten/first grade with, and he is almost 27yrs old) for dinner, Dh is at his mom's, most likely eating something there.
I am making my version of "eggroll in a bowl"- ground turkey, diced fresh lotus root(my new favorite veggie), a bag of the "chopped salad" that is mostly cabbage, broccoli and carrots. Added fresh ginger, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce and sesame oil. Have brown rice cooking in the pressure cooker. Rarely cook brown rice- dh only likes Japanese white, sticky rice(I only eat the white rice , in small amounts, if I have something over it or topped with furikake.
Will see how I feel tomorrow if I go to class or not- feeling now that I will skip it. Don't want to push it but know getting up and moving will be good for me. I can do the treatment an hour before class. Can work out the jitters that the treatments give me.6 -

Today is my son Dan's 39th birthday.. taking him out with Doris for lunch later in the week.
Got the approval for Siri's adoption but also found out she has feline leukemia,it could be a false positive so we shall see,she also needs to be spade and possibly her shots..but its all a waiting game.6 -

I am waiting for his good morning call around 8 a.m., and will then start the telephone marathon of getting the furniture issues with the pieces that didn't get to us sorted out. Ran across something of interest this morning, some good research on something they teach you when you have the gastric bypass, and that's the sequence in which to eat. Always protein first, then veggies, then any form of breads or other carbs. It's taught to bariatric patients because the amounts are so limited, particularly right after surgery, that you can handle. Getting protein up to the necessary 65-68 grams a day is always a struggle, but the order becomes habit. Goals - For 2023, were:
✅- Get to maintenance range - I did, but please note I did change my maintenance range from 145-150 to 150-155. My body wants to be at this weight, for whatever reason, and I'm pretty much OK with it.
✅- Get healthier - I feel as if I am, but this varies from day to day. Still working on it.
✅❌- Stick to the budget - Both, actually. We did get the house paid off, meeting our self-imposed deadline of five years to pay off, which made us happy. We were supposed to then take the remainder of the year to put money away and start again in January for the first project. Well, we decided to wander outside the budget and get the sunroom constructed. While we didn't take money out of savings to get it done, we didn't put the money away that we had hoped to. But, it was a considered decision, and it's become a wonderful thing that we're very happy with.
And the goals for 2024 are:
✅- Stay in maintenance range
✅- Get healthier
✅- Stick to the budget
My weight on the 3rd of January 2023 was 155.8, and it's 151.8 this morning, so I'm pleased overall with that, and the rest will be what it is. My word for 2023 was "progress," and I've done that, and we've done that as a couple and a family, I think. My word for 2024 is "learn."
Hope it's a good year for us all.

Well, I found out that ice cream bothers me but tea doesn’t. Not that not being able to eat ice cream is bad. I think my body is trying to fight this infection since I’m a bit tired again.
Allie – happy birthday to Dan. Hope Siri’s diagnosis of feline leukemia is a false positive. But should it not be, at least it can’t be transferred to Alfie
Yesterday they asked me at BK to work today. I told them that I didn’t know how I’d feel so I didn’t want to make a commitment that I didn’t know I could fulfill. Well, I was able to eat dinner (sort-of) so I texted them that if they still wanted me, I think I could work. As expected, they do still want me.
So off to sleep with Shadow. Almost have the scarf for the gal at work done.

As for my health, it's not great. Well, I guess that's relative. The pain my pelvis that’s been haunting me for several years has come roaring back lately. I did have a CT and apparently, it’s a phantom pain. It’s all in my head they say. So, I have to figure it out on my own.
My feet still sting. No solution to that either. That’s in my head too. I guess I’m just a hypochondriac.

There's something I want to get my doctor to follow up on with me.
I also have pelvic region issues and itching, stinging feet from time to time. It's been with me for 2 or 3 decades and was worse when I had my periods, just before my periods and maybe on the first day. Then it would go away till the next month. Now it seems to come on randomly.
I've asked doctors about it, but they've always said that the female body can have odd symptoms and as I moved into perimenopause, they told me that perimenopause can produce odd symptoms.

All the foods I don't eat or rarely eat.
I've never liked sauces on my food because I've always had the feeling that sauces are there to hide something yucky. Just show me what it is you're trying to feed me without disguising it.
Plus most sauces are too sweet.
The yogurt I eat is sugar-free although I suppose with any dairy product, lactose is a natural sugar.
I've read articles and comments about avoiding all the added sugars in foods, and have wondered what people are eating that has so much added sugar.

My mother did not like frozen dinners and similar. She didn't think they were healthy, and she thought they were a waste of money. We didn't have a lot of money growing up and she had a tight budget for groceries.
She would rather buy a big bag of plain pasta for $1 than to buy boxed or packaged flavoured pasta. I didn't have kraft mac n cheese until I was in my 20s either!
For a number of years, we lived close to my grandmother and great grandmother who both had huge gardens, so we got our veggies that way.
My parents often had friends in the farming community, so we'd get eggs and milk and meat at a discounted rate.
Because of what she'd learning in nursing and because of our tight budget, we were on quite a strict diet growing up. No desserts except on weekends. One cookie when we got home from school and that was it. Plain food. No sauces and condiments.

Lisa: I have serious sun room envy! Now that I'm friends with a guy who is trying to play golf in every state, its entirely plausible I'll be in your neck of the woods some day.
Michele: Your endorsement of the InstaPot air fryer attachment influenced my latest purchase. I bought a new 6 qt IP with the duo lid. My old one has been donated. I did a deep cleaning of the kitchen before opening the box and finding the right spot for the IP. It's a bit larger than my vintage one, so stuff was moved to accommodate it. Now, maybe I'll start cooking again.
My word for 2024 is STRETCH. For me, that is a mental and physical exercise.
