Barbara AHMOD-thanks for suggestions. I have looked at all of them. I grew up using cast iron. I hate to admit it but I now find it a bit heavy (how did that ever happen?). I ordered a tri ply clad set of stainless steel tonight. I considered ceramic like Michele recommended but in the end didn't want to pay price to ensure high quality of the coating (too much research on my part, no doubt). I believe I spent more time researching this purchase than I did my last car.
Lisa-so glad you get a bonus visit with daughter!
Tina-have they done an X-ray and or ct scan of foot? When I asked podiatrist about steroid shot for arthritis she said since my major pain area is top of foot they would not do shot for fear of hitting artery. That's when I moved to physical therapy. every tendon that runs into my foot is tight and that compounds the arthritis pain. I am glad physical therapist used dry needling. He has switch over to the electrical stimulation for now. I also got a massage before I got into pt-he worked on my left leg for 20 minutes and it did offer relief.
For new ladies-I'm a 69 year old widow, still working full-time. This may actually be the year but I won't hold myself to anything. Two bio sons who are married with three children between them. Love their wives. Step son and his wife have three boys (one set of twins). Love my dil. It's not that I don't love the boys, but you worry about what a dil may be like and I am very fortunate with all three of them.
Well, I was up early this morning so it is my bed time. Have physical therapy at 8 tomorrow and meeting with boss at 11. Will flex some time after that to stop by store (calling for snow and rain Saturday morning)-want to get stuff to make some sort of soup this weekend.
Take care all.

Worked then filed a complaint with the NHTSB about my car. It’s been 3 months, to me that’s a reasonable amount of time for a fix to have been developed. I know that it can be fixed – just replace the ABS. But I also know that that’s expensive and Hyundai is probably looking for a cheaper fix.
Simone – how wonderful your husband is on board with you!
Been helping Vince bring in the Christmas decorations. The goal is to have things (except the arches, log cabin and the trees around it) inside at least the garage since it’s supposed to rain Sat. Doing pretty well on that front. Washed the last of the Christmas towels so now I have to repack the linens totes. After this I hope to be getting back to walking the neighborhood. But I know I’m getting my steps in taking in the decorations.
Barbara – are your dogs chow hounds? I remember when we were training the service dog, whenever I took him on a walk I had treats (many times just pieces of kibble) in my pocket and would give him a bit when he walked beside me. I tried this “trick” with Jess’ dog because he was pulling and it really did work. The next time, tho, I forgot to take some kibble with me and when he realized he wasn’t getting any “treats”, he went back to pulling.
For the new gals – KJ (Kelly) is also an awesome child care giver
Tina – I really wish I could do zumba. But for one thing I’m uncoordinated. I tried it once, when they said “turn left” I’d turn right. I’m also worried about the impact. Now if I could find a water zumba class, that I’d do.
Rebecca – woo hoo for passing that candy aisle
Looks like I’ll need to go to the store for some moist cat food. Jess talked to Vince about coming here the 5th when she gets back from Idaho, but then she’d just have to bring Shadow back for her vet appt on the 17th. I know she misses Shadow but all that driving! Well, whatever she decides to do is fine with me.
Ginny – I like my Corelleware because (I hate to say this) it’s light and hard to break. I got a set of stainless steel pots and pans when I got engaged (back when the dinosaurs roamed...lol) and I honestly prefer them to the ones you buy today mainly because they feel a bit lighter. I do want to get Jess at least started on a set of Corelleware.
My mouth still feels sore from the root canal. Having soup for breakfast. It is getting better, tho. I’m expecting that it’ll be sore for the next few weeks. After all, he was rooting (pun intended) around in there
Off to take a shower. Jess said she would come here tomorrow so for now this is the last time I’ll sleep with Shadow. That is, until the 15th when she wants to meet us ½ way to get Shadow so that we can take her to the vet on the 17th.
Finished the scarf for the gal at work. The price will be a donation to any soup kitchen. Really, I don't do it to make a profit.

I would have thought all the wild animals would have eaten all the berries by now.

It’s a really small area, and it was only the one berry that was still there. We have a neighbour a few houses down who has several bird feeders so the squirrels tend to hang out at her place.

I harvested a raspberry today!! lol the pen is to give a size reference. I only have a few canes and they put out a last flower burst in August so I’m pretty tickled that they did anything. Sadly lacking in flavour tho, they really need the heat for that, but it’s January in the northern hemisphere so I’ll take it!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island
Our raspberries did that for the first 2 or 3 years. This year is the first time we've actually had something like a harvest!!

If your raspberries do like mine, you will have a ton in just a few years. I started with a total of four plants. I know have a solid row that is about 20 ft long. They are taking over part of the front yard.
The flavor will be better in the summer- more sun makes them sweeter(and extra water/rain makes them not as sweet.3 -

Today's very slow walk to help with the breathing and get some vitamin D.

Pip-hope all is well with Kirby. Where is the pain?
Michele-I switched to Corelle ware a couple of years ago. I like it quite well. I have service for 8 which I really don't need that much any more. As part of kitchen declutter may donate half to Goodwill. If I am ever feeding more people than that I can buy some sort of disposable for the occasion.
Woke up early this am. Foot is a bit irritated but I go to PT at 8 so will try to evaluate. Pretty well isolated to one spot-quite the mystery to be solved but making progress.
Since I'm up going to start work day since I need to take time for pt. Plan to stop at store on way home from there (very close to Meijer's) so I have shopping out of way. They are saying we may get an inch or so of snow tomorrow. Figure I can just be set to make some soup and not run around much over weekend.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio9 -
Pip - poor Kirby! Hope it's just an angry pulled muscle and he'll be good as new soon. You sure need a lot of documentation to get a driver's license. Maybe it's that way all over.
Ginny - Good luck with the foot PT. Would you mind sharing what stainless steel you ended up getting? I have several Green+life fry pans but I've noticed they are getting tiny dings - hopefully it's nothing nasty and their non-stick feature is still OK. Every now and then I think about getting new ones but decision fatigue! Corelle - YES! Mine is probably 30 years old or older.
Kylia - I've added a little "backwards walking" to my exercise snack. While I'm waiting for a skillet or pan to heat up, I can walk backwards 10 steps in my kitchen before I hit the wall. So maybe 10 or more times back and forth. I read it's good for the back and hips like you mentioned but also gives our brains and balance a challenge.
Evie - I'm amazed that teeny raspberry survived this long.
Sue - hope the septic guy fixed the problem.
I keep looking at the 10 day forecast - a week from today, snow should be falling in earnest and the high below freezing. That is, until the forecast model changes its mind. Which it does every few hours, lol. I normally use Weather Underground since I like the way their current satellite and radar shot is set up on the home page. I can see where the rain and storm is within a couple hundred yards of my house. Windy is better for some other things - easier for me to check the weather for the rest of you. Never got used to Accuweather although they are good too.
Grateful I have a week to get the chicken run beefed up and firewood situation planned. Need to make a huge grocery run mid next Wednesday and lay in milk and salad stuff for me and plenty of greens for the hens.
I'm thinking if the snow is light enough, I may be able to use the leaf blower to clear it from the tarp roof over the chicken run.
Make it a fabulous day.

Good morning from frosty Arkansas... where the snow is supposed to begin here in a hot minute,
Pip - Hope things are better with Kirby this morning.
It's already slightly above freezing, and they had trucks out last night treating bridges and other spaces vulnerable to ice. I'm up two hours earlier than usual, just couldn't sleep again, and no sign of my daughter, so I'm assuming she's sleeping in. I hope she is. That four-hour time difference means it's 1 a.m. to her jet-lagged self. She trailed off to bed at 7:30 our time last night, just exhausted by the traveling.
As an aside, air travel always reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke's three laws, one of which was "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." If someone pointed at me and said "Explain how an engine works," my answer would pretty much be, "Looks like magic to me." It fascinates me that we can be on one side of this huge world, so far away that it takes four hours for the earth to rotate enough to provide the same sunrise, and then we can jump in a tin can with fixed wings and be 3,800 miles further toward the next day's sunrise. We take it for granted, but it's still magic.
The snow should only be for a couple hours and move on, but hopefully won't stick... it's above freezing, but just barely, and not supposed to get colder, just a little warmer during the day. No plans for the day, just enjoy the short amount of time we have together until we drop her back off at the airport on Sunday.
Reading, but not lots of comments. All you folks in the path of the snow stay safe!
Love y'all,

Margaret I understand the seems like no brainers! There are non-working days when I realize before bed that no tooth brushing occurred. We just need to concentrate on us.
Simone My DH may finally listen to the doctors....maybe. He did walk his 15 mins backwards last night and tonight. I told him I would also do it with him. He came in when I was almost done and told me to find my own hallway-lol!!! Good thing i was done He also stayed out of snacks today. Will I ever get him to eat more veggies? Probably not, but I will keep trying. I do plate dinner now and he rarely will get seconds.
Lisa Enjoy the unexpected time with daughter!
Debbie My DH has same issues as yours health wise. He is great at walking though and hates to sit still. Prefers to walk if there is a destination though. He rarely has found a burger he won't eat. Good thing he has me.
Pip Prayers for Kirby.
I started this last night then promptly fell asleep. 10k steps-yay! I am sure that helped. Starting this morning at chiro with DH, then off to work. The sky is ominous this morning looking out the window. There is lots of red in the clouds. Have some running to do after work. Tomorrow DH hunts and I am meeting girlfriend for coffee. I told SIL that I might be late. Her comment was that she might not be there. In which case I can't be late. SMH. I think she was joking, but who knows. Again it is the case of her family is more important than anyone else's. I will enjoy time with C. After work tomorrow I plan on going to buy cards, list is made and go to trader Joe's. If we don't go to Kroger tonight will do that as well. Then should be home for weekend. It is my turn to host dessert night Sunday evening. Need to decide what I am serving. So this weekend will be filled with friends.
Need to get my day started, lunches packed, etc.
Make the BEST choice you can at the moment you are in.
Hugs!
Healing thoughts!
Stay safe!

Well starting day 3 I hate this fluctuation thing and that I just can't understand a gain.. All I can think of was to much carbs in the popcorn I had. Because I was under calories on here. Oh well take it and keep with it. Good luck to all

Morning ladies
Coldy cold here and taking Doris and Dan out to lunch today.
Ugh I have a sty starting in the outside of my eye..will have to look up what to do for that..
Will see how today goes..tomorrow is Miles Birthday party..his Birthday is Sunday can't believe he is 2.6 -
Good morning ladies!
Lisa that visit is great news!
Michele hope your mouth feels better.
Pip! Oh no! Hope Kirby is okay!
I am still sick as a dog with some kind of respiratory virus. But I slept a little better last night.
Today I have a meeting for the reception for my mother's funeral, then a mammogram. Coughing will interfere with the mammogram but the cough medicine will interfere with driving. Maybe a half dose.
My appetite is way down. But I have to eat so I don't get dizzy.
Well, time for another nap. Hope this one does the trick.

Linda I am guessing salt from popcorn....fluctuations are normal, but hard to watch. Some ladies weigh daily but only log once a week. Some only weigh weekly or monthly. If you haven't done so yet, take measurements too. You've got this!
Annie HUGS! Take care.
Allie Hot compresses. They help quickly. Also washing eye area with baby shampoo. These things help me. If you wear eye makeup, don't until gone. Buy new mascara.
Kylia3 -
Kylia- don't wear makeup ,don't have baby shampoo but will be hopping in the shower and have cera v face wash and will use some of that.
Alfie is under the covers as usual lol
Pip- please let us know whats going on with poor Kirby ..3 -
Hello, everyone. Introduction: I'm a 64 F with stage 3c ovarian cancer. I was diagnosed on July 6, 2022. (I'm 5'9.) I lost weight during chemo and maintenance, but I started eating all kinds of "bad" stuff and gained back 34 pounds. My last weigh-in (on Monday, January 1) told me I weighed 244 pounds exactly. I decided that it was time to get serious (again) about losing weight. My highest weight was 331, so I'm proud I've dropped 87 pounds. My goal is to get under 200 pounds. I haven't seen that number in years and years!
I'm a walking ticking time bomb. There is NO CURE for ovarian cancer at this point. Since I was diagnosed with stage 3c OC, I was told that I had "about" 5 years left to live. OC (ovarian cancer) almost always returns, especially in women my age. Right now, I'm doing pretty well. I have a PET scan on the 29th of this month, and we'll see how I'm doing inside. I feel pretty well physically. I'm a little bit depressed, but I'm hanging in there. (I'm quite a happy person normally, actually.)
I got down to 210 pounds while I was doing chemo. Not an easy way to lose weight, but I loved being so close to 200 pounds. I recently told my oncologist that I was thinking about doing intermittent fasting, but he said no to that. He wants me to keep some excess weight on so that I have more of a "pad" when I have to start chemo again.
Do you know what the most challenging part is? If you knew that you had "x" amount of years left to live, you'd want to enjoy all the yummy food you could, you know? And I did that after I was done with chemo. But I didn't particularly appreciate how I felt by eating all of that bad stuff. And I hated seeing the scale go up and up and up. So that's why I'm hoping that I can get down to under 200 pounds. I'll be satisfied that I "got there" before my time here on earth is over. (Note: When I was much, much younger I weighed about 145 pounds.)
I've started exercising, which is a REALLY big deal because I seriously HATE TO EXERCISE! I have been riding the recumbent bike (we have one at our house) for at least 15 minutes daily (today I did 18 - yay me!). It's a start. I'm eating 1,200 calories a day. I'm drinking my water. Weigh-ins will be on Mondays. Wish me luck!
Look up the symptoms of ovarian cancer. It's known as "the silent killer" for good reason. It's easy to shrug off some of the symptoms because it could easily be something else.
Enjoy life, my friends. Try to find things to be grateful for each day. Life is wonderful!17 -
Jake has an appointment with the cancer doctor today. It's about an hour away and he'll leave extra early to get there. That will give me a few hours "alone". First I'll be dancing with my friend while keeping an eye on the dogs and then a chance to do things with my own music playing and nobody asking questions. I can't go with Jake to the doctor because Annie still can't be trusted at home alone. There are too many things that are tempting (like the firewood by the wood stove) that she wants to chew.
Pip, best wishes to you and KIrby for good answers at the ER
Annie, hugs to you at this difficult time
Linda in Ontario, do not be discouraged. Just keep on keeping on with your good habits.
"New goals don't deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results."--James Clear "Atomic Habits"

Mysoulisskinny ...Welcome to a very supportive thread. I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis, but I admire your attitude! No one is guaranteed "tomorrow" and your reminder to enjoy life with gratitude is perfect.
Linda ... hello! I remember you! Scale fluctuations for me are almost always too many carbs or salt. I do weigh daily though to watch the trend.
Pip ... hope Kirby is doing better this morning ... ERs are horrible places
Annie ... so sorry you are sick ... our immune systems have a horrible time with stress ...
My mom is finally doing well enough that a screening is scheduled for Monday to verify that she is ready to head back to her assisted living facility. Her short-term memory is poor, so the challenge will be reminding her what she really can and can't do. She has no recollection of getting sick, falling or my feeding her for 10 days! But she has people laughing at the facility (which actually means her dry wit and sarcasm are back) so she's definitely more like herself.
My holiday weight is slowly receding since the sweet stuff is now gone. I plan to eat from the pantry for the next few weeks to use up older items. Will also start decluttering as well. Kay ... I still follow the 365 day decluttering group so you know my kitchen drawers are going to look great in a few days! A baby shower to attend tomorrow, but otherwise it should be a quiet weekend.

I count this a good day.
First, I slept pretty well. Not to be taken for granted these days.
Second, I only went once in the night to the lavatory. I have been 'bladder training ' since the last cruise in June, when we had a lecture by a media doctor. I was having a lot of trouble needing to go often. His recommendation was to ignore the first signal when the bladder is only one third full. Hang on. I have been following his advice and it has made the world of difference. Both day and night.
Third, I did all my exercises and my editing.
Fourth, I rang G who was feeling pretty OK, apart from not sleeping due to the steroids. She had taken her printer to be fixed, booked an interview with a cleaner, and arranged for her tame handyman to put flooring in the loft and clear it. This encouraged me to ........
Fifth, book a handyman to come and put the grab bar up in the bathroom that my son promised, but never delivered on the promise. It is a stud wall, so needs special fixings. As I had this excuse, I doubled up the appointment with putting the cupboard door back in the kitchen. This door has been the source of murderous thoughts towards John, so at last I am getting it done, as a piggyback on my 'health and safety'. He didn't say anything when I told him, but seemed quite happy. Hooray! Next Thursday pm.
Sixth, I put a few strokes of acrylic paint on a canvas that the kids bought us for Christmas. Just a background design. It's a start. I didn’t dare do the painting of Edie that I really wanted, but we all have to start somewhere.
So, all good.
Hope Kirby is OK. Xxxxxxxx

Didn’t spin or go to the gym. I have to get my California drivers license this year (exp. 2025). I have all the information from my previous marriages (married 4 times) except for husband #1 so I am tackling that. The county couldn’t find my marriage certificate but I was able to get my divorce paper. Hopefully that will be enough to get a license since it has my original name. Moral of the story, don’t get married multiple times!
You need all of that to get a driver's license? That's annoying.

The pain he says in the back side of his body. He had taken 5 ibuprofen when it happened m it didn’t help. I told him he wasn’t going to walk with me and the kids yesterday, he said we will c how I feel, I told him I didn’t care. He’s not going to walk with me anyway. Says he feels better today.
Chispa has had a swollen toe and I had noticed her hopping but she was keeping up like it was nothing so I had been pushing her in the buggy. This morning, I will take her out by herself so she can do her business then bring her back home then take the other two so I don’t have to push the buggy and walk the other two. I’ve done it before so it wouldn’t have killed me. He said he will walk with me on Monday, I told him we will c8
