@mkksemail What a coincidence, I did the same thing last Saturday playing Kickball, of all things. Scrapped and scared up, but worse, pulled a muscle in both my left quad and right hamstring. I bruised up and I couldn't hardly walk for a couple of days and have been off the bike all week. I started with light stretching over the past few days, and hope to do some modest spinning this coming week at the gym. It has been very frustrating as I have been progressing well over the past 8 months.

ahhh, ty walkin'! yes, looking forward to a better week =).

Oooooo, sorry, inter! That is a coincidence! I'm hoping to get in a spinning sesh at the gym this week, too. I didn't go at all this week. Same, on the hamstring, which seemed odd to me, as it wasn't one of the points of impact. But I spent more time icing the back of my left upper leg, than icing my knee, earlier this week. On par with icing my forehead tho :p. I did a Tai Chi stretching/movement, and plan to do my knee PT today, for the 1st time this week. The rest was good tho, body spent the time healing. Important to do that, as we get older, I don't want to stack injury on injury, you know? ;P

@mkksemail Yes, my wife is always reminding me that I'm not a kid anymore, but I don't want to act my age either, lol! It was the same with me, everybody was concerned about my superficial abrasions, but it was the muscle pulls that were the real issue. I hope you heal up soon!

yeooowwwww!! It took me about a week, but I'm mostly healed up now. Still small scabs on hands and knee, and forehead is still reddened, but the hamstring no longer is troublesome. That thigh on you tho, yea, that's gonna take a minute. I look for the silver lining - strains and pulls and scrapes and abrasions will heal. As long as there's no joint damage, I count it a win ;-).

My injury photos are sooo not attractive, I took them the next morning, hair not even combed ;p. None of my skinned palms or knee, and the hamstring pull wasn't visible on the surface at all (unlike yours, yeow!).

@mkksemail Ouch, looks sore, I hope heal up quickly. I went to the gym today for the first time in a week and worked my upper body, and stretching and light weights on my lower body. It went well, I'm going to slowly up the weight during the next two weeks, and hope to be back to baseline after that. As I age, I find it takes longer and longer to recover from incidents like these. Best of luck!!

mkksemail oh my! that looks so painful! hope u heal quickly!
trying to log all food again, not a fan of that. looks like the dairy food group that is getting to me. high fat, love milk, cheese, cottage cheese, need to cut back a little for a while..
almost have the bike fixed, need to adjust the derailer, hope its an easy fix. Don't really want to buy a new bike rn. Glad I have been doing the hiking trails to build up the thigh muscles, need that for riding around this town as it isn't flat surfaces here.
Going to son's house today, it is a 4 hr drive one way. it has caused some anxiety as I haven't driven that far by myself in a long time. Part of the trip is in a big city. Hope I have the timing down to miss rush hour.

It was painful. I'm 8 days out now, so in pretty good shape. Hamstring pull is no longer troublesome. Knees and palms still scabbed, but healing. Forehead not scabbed, still a bit reddened, but almost healed. Nose bridge still a bit of a scab, weird cut/split on the side of my nose not scabbed any more :).

Ahh, I'm a dairy lover too! Def no lactose intolerance here!! I managed to make the switch from whole milk to skim milk back in my 20s. That took a bit, lol. Def went in stages, first 2% for a few years, then 1%, finally bit the bullet and made it to skim. Cheese, well, that's another story. I need to learn to treat it more like a condiment than a protein source. It's a much better fat source than protein source ;-). But it's so good ! heh

Rush hour ain't no fun! Hope you miss it. Also, hope you're staying at least overnight, that's quite a chunk for a back and forth same day road trip. Doable, but not fun. Enjoy your visit with your son!

GREAT job on the bike!! And that's awesome, on having great hiking trails nearby. You're in Idaho, right? My parents-in-law used to go to Grand Targhee every winter. After my father-in-law retired, they rented an apartment out there for the season. We went once, it was gooorrgggeeeooouss! Is that the part of Idaho you live near?

inter … WTG on getting back to the gym!! I haven't done that yet :p. Tho I did spend a good 7-8 hrs working on cleaning out the 2 attic short shelves for cleaning and laundry, then unboxing the products that belonged there, and not on my floor, and getting them up there. Kitties had a ball - this crew we'd never let explore the attic before. But the door was open for hours yesterday, we said screw it, let them have fun :p

First day on the bike since my injury yesterday, I took a leisurely 10 mile loop on our local trails. My quad was a little stiff and sore this morning, but no pain. Second day at the gym this morning post injury, I bumped my weight up a bit, the workout went well, hope to be back to baseline by the end of next week.

Just back from PT. Asked the therapist to skip the 6-min bike ride so I could update her and we could talk over the exercises/plan, so I could understand how the plan is targeting the meniscus tear pain. Being that I have arthritis in both knees, and it's worse in the right knee than the left, but the pain and swelling is considerably more in the left, b/c of the added damage from the meniscus tear, I wanted to know how the plan was helping target that specifically. We talked about the fall, too. And the plantar fasciitis incident just before my last PT visit with her 3 weeks ago. And the fall on the ice in late Jan/early Feb, just before our first visit. I said I didn't even trip over any obstacles 10 days ago, I had on good shoes, was even using my walking stick, b/c of the earlier-in-the-day 1 hr walk. I theorized that my gait was affected by the plantar fasciitis, causing the fall. She was surprised at the hamstring pull, asked if I'd banged that, I said no, and asked if it was possible to pull it just from the impact on the knee? She said yes.

Anyway, got a fresh printout of the exercises. She did balance and range of motion assessments, instead of the bike ride, and 3 sets of each exercise. And went over form, and talked about specific muscles to target, and make sure were tightening with each exercise. She also suggested I call my doctor to see about visco shots, again, maybe for both knees. I'll call tomorrow. Or, Tuesday at the latest (after I get back from NY). Leaving Fri morning, returning Monday.

That was the first PT I'd done in the 3-wks since I'd seen her last. First I had a rando-out-of-the-blue plantar fasciitis bout to deal with, then that dumb fall. Felt good/proud of myself after the sesh. Glad you had a nice leisurely bike ride, inter! 10-miles is double my usual, tho, I admit I lifted my lips in a smile when I read that. Good on ya, for the gym. I haven't plunged back in yet. Not sure if I will before I fly out on Friday morning, if not, then Tuesday, for sure.

@mkksemail Wow, it sounds like you are in good hands with your PT. I too have been plagued with intermittent plantar fasciitis and often get frustrated with the length of time it takes to properly rehab. Good luck with your rehab!

TY! :) And to you as well, it sounds like you've got an excellent handle on your recovery process! That was my first bout with the plantar fasciitis, man it was a shock! yeow!

Fart walking, haha, that's made me laugh out loud this Morning, I tend to do it occasionally, probably after breakfast. I did walk down the stairs one Morning after Ana had gone to work, I let one sneak out as I moved between rooms only to find Ana sat in one of the chairs 🤣 we both burst out laughing at my cheek.

I love your pics walkintofit, you always come across to me as a baby goat, bouncing about, exploring those views and locations. I love it.

Back in Northern Ireland in my favourite reflection place. It's interesting. I tend to sit in the same chair/corner as it's really comfy, next to the window and out of the way.

Ive captured an amazing Christmas Tree in the same space, the autumn orange skies of a sunrise, the dark wet winter mornings and now I've got the sun on the side of my face, I can feel myself being powered up by it. Amazing to experience so many changes in the environment from the same place over the years. I'll try and link some of the photos.

My decking is mostly done now, after a bank holiday weekend, boards and joists replaced, sanded and repainted. Balustrade removed, repaired, sanded, painted and replaced.

My wife was pleasantly surprised how many of the normally dormant tools got used, always telling me off for 'needing' new tools but also always surprised when I always have a tool to solve the problem

II'll try and link some photos of different seasons from my corner.

Yeah sorry, I've struggled before trying to upload them. MFP goes through the motions but no image on the post.

Ive managed to get to tracking, went a bit over yesterday but only because I had cheese on toast when I got home, given my steps etc during travel, I was probably still under.

Funny story, I'd jumped off the plane and got back to my car, nackered. As I reversed out, just before I drove off, I caught my passport on the floor, had fallen out of my back pocket. So lucky.

Then, 10 mins later, along the main dual carriage way, I spotted a friend of mine that I haven't seen for about 10 years, he's not from here but I knew he'd travelled over for his birthday, I shouted across the road like an idiot and could hear his partner laughing at the stupidity of the moment. So funny, whatever I think of my health, there is nothing wrong with my eyesight 🤣

Well it's the end of the week and my weight has now stayed within my goal weight of 185 for over a month now and today I was at 183.9. My morning workout was a struggle, but I got through it. I have been using lighter lower body weight all week, and plan to up the weight starting Monday. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get a slower paced 20 mile bike ride in as I recover from my injuries. If all goes well I will resume my HIIT next Tuesday. This weekend will be my fourth 36hr fast, I have found 36hrs is the sweet spot for me, and it is very sustainable. It's amazing how the body adapts.

Best wishes to all, and I wish everyone a great Mother's Day weekend!

I did go to son1's house on tuesday, did miss the hard core traffic, glad I talked to him when the rush hours are. Glad I had maps on my phone, roads look different when driving and being a passenger. Rather b the passenger. That isn't happening any time soon. but I'm ok with that. Did have a couple anxiety attacks before I went on the road. only had a little cry as I was missing my copilot. happy it wasn't a big one or I would have had to turn around and go home. Drove back today, had a major slow down by ogden. Part of the road was blocked, 4 lane into 3 then 3. a bottle neck going on there. It was so nice to see the grands, had a great time with them. Drove back today, it was uneventful.
I live in southern Idaho, haven't visited Grand Targee, do see sun valley from time to time. I try to stay away during the winter.
Son2 is going to come this evening, the orginal plan I was going to drive there. His wife's family is faily close and I know she would love to see her mother on mother's day. my big deal is tomorrow, its my birthday. Officially old! lol, oh ya I forgot I'm a baby goat!

Mikey, u getting some time off would benifit you immensely. I have had time off in tune of 9 days. I have enjoyed going to son1's house and spending time with son2 on the weekend, he traveled to my house. I really think I could do the retirement thing easily. This time of year I do have a lot to do, spring cleaning, yard work, gardening, hiking, kayaking and visiting friends. I go back to work tomorrow. I'm considering retirement next year. I really don't see myself working till 70 or even later. Of course ss wants u to work longer so they don't have to pay out any of the money they have taken in over your work career.

trying to up my workouts, ya getting sore, don't need that

  • Interbeing
    Interbeing Posts: 144 Member

At one point I upped my sets during HIIT strength workouts to three from two in the hope of achieving quicker results. I too experienced fatigue and soreness, and in a strength test after about 2 weeks of the routine change, I found that I actually was losing ground. I returned to my two set routine, and within another two weeks, began to see an increase in strength at a moderate pace again. I have also made adjustments in my cycling and have reduced my weekly mileage, while incorporating HIIT into my mid week rides. This has resulted in my better performance and V02 Max numbers and better times on my longer weekend rides. At 66 years of age, more is not always better.
