Daily accountability and check in

It's been a while since I was on here, so I will try again. My home situation is bad, and I am fighting depression on a daily basis, which of course, leads to snacking. There is nothing I can do about the home situation, since it is something of a medical and mental thing that my husband, a Vietnam veteran, is fighting.
Needless to say, I have gained weight since I was on here last time. Just from snacking and not moving enough. Since Dec 4, I have managed to lose about 2lbs total, in tiny increments, but it is headed into the right direction. We now have snow on the ground, so all my walking has to be done inside, and of course, no gardening can be done now. I just finished my 2nd 15-minute walk for the day. I am hoping to keep it up, at least 2x per day, but I will have to see how it feels after a while. My body will tell me if it is too much! I am still not able to stay under my calorie count on a daily basis (1,200 cal per day), but I have been snacking less. I haven't cut it out completely because I know that is not the way to do it. So, I'm "weaning" myself off the sweet things and trying to find healthier snacks. To be honest, so long as the exercise is lowering my weight, I'm not too concerned about the calories yet, but I will continue to look for snacks that are relatively healthy. I will continue to watch the cals, though, and try not to overdo it. I actually try for a range of 1,200 - 1,400 per day. That way I don't feel quite so guilty! So, I'm back and trying again. I only have about 30 lbs to lose, but for some reason it is rather hard for me. I guess I just don't have any will power. Wish me luck everyone! Kayne1 -
Hi Keynelvb, finding something for you that you enjoy, the walking or something outside of the house is what you need. We only have a little snow later in winter here, still around 3-5⁰
Got back to the car early yesterday so I made my way down to the gym, it was mad busy but I got some routines in.
In a moment of madness, I think I can maybe try, leave the house at 5.45. Have a coffee and moment of mindfulness. Gym opens at 6. Do 20 mins cardio and then a couple of free weight routines. Get showered and back up the road for the bus at 7.20.
It'll mean I get to the gym during the week. I just need to see if I can get out of bed tomorrow.
I did put a bit on compared to Saturday, but in my defence it was after a day of eating when I'll usually weigh first thing.2 -
That is good u got out and moved it Mikey! U will find a new normal for the exercising. kaynelvb, if u get bored of the indoor walking there is a lot of walking/exercise workouts on youtube. U are doing great! Keep on movin to the goovin!
Good job Greaterthanlife logging those calories!
I got mine in yesterday along with the rowing for 18 minutes. YES we got this!2 -
@kaynelvb My husband is also a Vietnam veteran. He does have some issues. But, for the most part, everything is going well.
I live where it sometimes gets too cold or rainy to walk outside. And, I do like you do. I just walk back and forth around the house. I also have a little step with a walker around it for balance. I know, sounds silly! But, it works.
Right now, I'm a bit out of shape and just trying to get back into it. I too have my calories set at around 1200. I do pretty good unless we go out to eat. Good luck to you!2 -
SurferGirl1982 That is a great idea! I'm going to let my brother know about using his walker like that.0

Lost 7lb over the last week or so, according to the scales/body check machine. Done at the same time of the day, before food etc.
That's good going, I was hoping for more, but I've been led a bit by a higher BMR which meant MFP gave me a higher calorie goal. Plus I've swapped some body fat for muscle which is good.
I've changed the MFP goals as I seem to have a lower BMR now. I did have protein powder in my porridge this week and was picking up boiled eggs with a lunch deal, probably on the high side calorie wise, I'll stick with the porridge and eggs, lose the protein in the morning.
Just finished at the gym, didn't make it on Thursday Morning as I slept late and didn5 fancy the early start. Maybe next week.
Onwards we go anyway, progress.1 -
Way to go Mikey! that is impressive loss. I am close to my goal, 8 lbs to go and its slow going for me. I need to figure out what to change. the 1200 mfp gives me isn't working. I might try bumping it up for a few weeks to see if I am eating enough.1

Hello everyone:
I hope all is well. My food as follows:

Total calories 2350. Base calories 2140. I went 210 calories over base. Got to get the groove.1 -
Hello everyone:
I trust that everyone had a good weekend. Allow me to log in my food:
Mixed vegetables
Chicken cup a noodle
Turkey bacon
Babybel cheeses
Mini Oreos
Awesome date
Kids packet jelly beans
Total calories 1980. Base calories 2140. I wanted to make base today even though this is holiday season. I also want to stipulate show important it is for me to log my food and get any support or suggestions. Recently, I was chastised from another room for logging in calories. They claim it does not coincide with the subject matter of "mini goals". I cannot see the their logic as food control appears to be one of the main attributes of this app. Nevertheless my goal is for health. Logging in my calories allows me at this point in time for weight management and future strategic planning and coordination.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Food logging is an interesting one, lots of people hate it and some people talk about 'mindset' being more important and actually talk about eating what you want, in moderation.
I think tracking helps me understand the calorie range of foods and how it affects macros, how much protein and fat I'm getting. You cab come away from it eventually if you prefer and if you can better guesstimate the sizes of meals.
If it works for you, crack on and don't worry about what strangers on the Internet have to say about your process. Momentum and routine is the main thing.
Those jelly beans sound good.
I almost cheated last night, was tired after a night of socialising on Saturday, where I used to make cereal, have toast and crisps. I stuck to just having 2 small toast with peanut butter.
My plan is to prep tonight and see if I can do the gym tomorrow Morning.2 -
Greaterthanlife this is today's stoic wisdom from Epictetus. Timely, be confident in your process and what works for you.
"I tell you, you only have to learn to live like the healthy person does...living with complete confidence. What confidence?
The only one worth holding, in what is trustworthy, unhindered, and can't be taken away--your own reasoned choice."
-Epictetus, Discourses, 3.26.23b-241 -
ya what confidence?1

Ice cream sandwich, damn that sounds good. Well done coming under base too Greaterthanlife
I'm enjoying these poke boxes, really nice b9x salads, like stir fry veggies with either chicken or salmon and a bit of rice. Todays one has a lot of salt though when I scanned it. Interesting.
Maybe I'll get a few of them and stock up in work
Staying strong, had extra pasta last night with a bolognese and two slices of bread but that was a good meal, I enjoyed it and didn't snack.
I'm not going to sweat the gym thing during the week, I have my gym stuff in the car, maybe I'll go later, but I'm making progress and have momentum so I'll keep working with that.
Have a great day all and try not to kick too many kittens 🤣

Work is super busy now. Of course its retail and everyone is shopping for Christmas. The store I work at is huge and has just about everything. Getting the steps in and helping customers find things. Managing people is hard, I am over 55 people. Ranging from 17-82 years old. Most of my co workers are mid 19 to 25. Isn't it awesome that I am keeping up with them? I'm 66. Feel good about that.
I do need to dial in the diet and lose the grief weight I gained this year. I have lost 3 lbs in about 7 weeks so its going. Very slow but it will stick.2 -

@walkintofit : WTG with your position and your weight management. Tough at work especially if there is food. It's not impossible though. Squeeze in a sugar free or light product if needed. Or better yet pass it over to me😚
@Hey Mikey no snacks? Just lather that Bolognese. I didn't do poke yet. The salmon idea sounds good. Other than that, I am here for your emotional eating rescue. Chew be mine , chew be mine, all mine.1 -
