yesterday was not good. Today, even warmer went very well. And then my evening turned odd. I came home, drag myself up the stairs to my flat, see smoke floating by the window in the staircase. Think "hmm, that's odd. Hmm.. also smells like a fire" and then "oh *kitten*! A fire!" Called the firefighters and got the unlucky people out of their flat who'd extinguished the fire but had not really noticed that the smoke was so bad (it was). Fire fighters checked out the damage, paramedics checked out the people. All fine now.
On the note on all fine: Ran 1km less this week than previous. It also was substantially hotter this week.7 -
Yikes @yirara that sounds like it could have been a dangerous situation. Glad you got those people out of there before the smoke got to them. Wasn't sure whether to Like or Hug on that post
Golf was mixed today. Terrible front 9, but a pretty decent back. So still a lot of work to do. Thinking about doing a TM run this afternoon as I won't be able to run tomorrow. Have to cut down the rest of my tree out front.4 -

Thanks I had an awful lot of emergency, first aid and kind of rescue trainings and drills. But most of it was based on 'hit the next alarm, put on breathing and floating equipment, go to muster point', thus not really useful skills 😬 Glad all went well.4 -

We aren't really nightlife people anymore. We tend to be early to bed, early to rise folks. We are going to do a bit of shopping today after our morning activities.

@ContraryMaryMary Great running. Glad you held off the girl at the end. Sorry the distance was short.
@martaindale Tippy does love the beach.
Great running @chris_in_cal . Glad it felt good and you didn't get COVID. I had a scare a couple of weeks ago too, when someone I sat beside at church on Sunday let me know on that Tuesday they tested positive. I was paranoid that every little sniffle or cough was a symptom. So, I understand.
Nice run this morning @tarun_yadavA .
WOW @yirara . Glad the fire wasn't worse. You're doing great with your running.
@Scott6255 I'm glad the golf ended on a high note.

Sunday long run today and I did 16km (that’s 10 miles for you in imperial land). Pleasant run, took it steady and enjoyed myself.
Parkrun gave us the option of modifying our times so I said yes please but then I see they have just now decided to modify everybody’s times because something like half the field got a new PB and it was also screwing with the course records. It’s only fair really.7 -

There was rain in the forecast for Sunday, so I decided to do my long run today instead of tomorrow. I actually got up pretty early (for a weekend) and got out the door at 7:30 am. It was about 75°F at the start and 83°F at the end. There was a bit of a breeze and enough cloud cover that it didn't feel too bad. I ran 11 miles. I felt pretty good. I've been taking the salt stick chews every 30 minutes and I think they help a lot. We did get some rain this evening, but now it doesn't look like we will get rain tomorrow morning so I probably could have run tomorrow, but it was kind of good to switch up the routine.
I'm glad you didn't have covid @chris_in_cal I understand how you were feeling. I found out yesterday that a coworker who was out on Thursday and Friday has covid. I know he came into my office on Wednesday to bring me some documents, but it was quick and I don't think I was really around him much. So now I am over analyzing every possible symptom. The anxious thoughts can really drive you nuts.
@Teresa502 I hope your family reunion was good.
@contrarymarymary I'm glad they adjusted the times. I hate when a course is significantly long or short.

We had a later start today so I went for a run. Our hotel is close to the imperial palace so I joined a slew of other runners for a loop around the palace grounds this morning. It is exactly a 5k but I added some miles looping around an adjacent park and getting to and from the palace. It was oppressive this morning. 81F feels like 89F at about 6am and much hotter by the time I finished. Because it loops the palace grounds there are no cross streets or cars which is nice. Mostly you see the moat and stone walls with occasional entry gates.

Yesterday we moved from the mountains to Tokyo. We went to Shikara-go which is a small village in the mountains that uses a very distinctive architectural style. It's so unique that the village is now a UNESCO World heritage site.
Our hotel in Tokyo is very nice! It's located in a high rise. We are on the 32nd floor with a pretty amazing view. At the bottom of the picture you can see Tokyo station and at the top, all the trees are the Imperial palace grounds.

Maybe that is it. I only record using my Garmin which is connected to Strava so you would think the data would be the same. For the run which read 10:54/mile on Strava and 11:03/mile on Garmin, the Garmin stats indicate that my average moving pace was 10:51/mile which is closer to the Strava pace. Who knows! As long as both have me moving forward it's all good!4 -
@ContraryMaryMary I'm glad you had a nice run today and that they modified everyone's time for Parkrun. That would mess with a lot of records.
Nice long run @kgirlhart .
Great streaking @chris_in_cal !
Another cool place to run @martaindale . Love all of the pictures of your vacation. Enjoy Tokyo.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA . Glad your 9 year old joined you today.

Nice run @AlphaHowls . I agree that this month really has gone by fast.2 -

Both yesterday and today I went out early with Tippy and did a fast mile before heading out to the family reunion.
I did have a mystery yesterday. Non-running related, so it's in the spoiler if you are interested.I have been using Tippy's slip leash for her walks where she is likely to meet other dogs, just in case. She is really good, but it is easier to keep her safe if she can't get too far away from me. Then, I use her longer leash to go to the beach, so she has more freedom to run around.
After I got back to the bed and breakfast yesterday, I took her out for a walk and then came back to change my shoes and get the longer leash to head for the beach. When I bent over to hook the leash in her collar, her collar was missing! I could have sworn it was on her when we went out, but maybe not.
Now, it's not a total surprise that it may have come off, because it has a couple of times before, if it is hit just right. So, I figured she had scratched it off and it was in the room. Nope! No where to be found. So, we went out and retraced our steps on the walk. Nope! (It was red, so should have been easy to see.) I thought that it might have possibly fallen off during the mile walk that morning, so looked when we took the same route today. Nope. If it did, someone picked it up. It's just so weird that I wouldn't have heard it fall or noticed it when we were walking back, since we do an out and back.
Today, she got a new collar.5 -

2.64 cautious miles this morning…I ended up having a rather symptomatic covid rebound after coming off Paxlovid, but am optimistic that I’m over it now. Planning to take it slow after 2 weeks of inactivity and 🤧…but happy to be able to get out again.
10.43 miles in July8
