We made it to the Bed and Breakfast in FL about 3:30. The drive was pretty uneventful - lots of slow traffic in Jacksonville and a heavy downpour/storm around 2:45, but I've seen worse. All in all, it was a great day for driving.
After it quit raining....well, it was still drizzling... Tippy and I did a fast mile walk. Then I drove up to a local legendary pizza place and got 2 slices to go for dinner. Then, Tippy and I took a stroll on the beach. She really loves the beach and sand, just don't even ask her to go into the water. LOL
Tippy after our fast walk.
Bizzaro's Pizza For you @taran_yadavA .
Love the sea grass

Missed yesterday’s run so headed out for a hour today while my daughter was at ballet. Nice run but was a bit quick so I’ll probably pay for that at Parkrun tomorrow.5

Hi everyone!
My DH begged me not to get up early to run but sleep in, as we are driving to France 🇫🇷 later. I woke up as early as I would have to run anyway, but forced myself to finish getting ready first before heading out for a really easy recovery 6km. The drive is like 14 hours, so quite a marathon itself.
203.6/200km for July.5 -
Morning all
Got in 4.72 at 10"30. Hot out there!
@quilteryoyo glad you're having fun in FL! 😊 Nice pizza pic!
@Laurz9191 enjoy France! 😊 ... What's a DH?
@chris_in_cal @Mari33a yes!!! Thank you! Haha.4 -
@quilteryoyo Tippy looks happy frolicking on the beach! Glad you are having a good time.
@chris_in_cal impressive you got out the door 10 minutes after waking up. I'm sure it wasn't pleasant, but kudos for giving it a try.
@Laurz9191 you are really killing it! Hope you and your husband have a good time in France.
I woke up and decided to do a 5 mile TM run this morning and I had no pain Hopefully that can continue when I can get back outside. Busy this weekend, so no long run planned.
6 -
@ContraryMaryMary I hope Park run goes better than expected and you beat the kid again.
@Laurz9191 Enjoy your trip and drive safely.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Good job getting out and doing what you could after an indulgent evening.
Thanks @Scott6255 . I'm glad you had no pain on the treadmill. Hopefully taking a break from the long run will help.2 -
Forgot my Japan update yesterday.
After my last run update we had a fun day. We ended up back at the shrine that my run went through. It was a really pretty place and I didn't get to spend a lot of time there so I was happy to go back.
We also made our own bento boxes for lunch. Our last stop was teiko drumming. We got a lesson from a professional teiko drummer who somehow got 40 people who had never done this before to learn a routine and perform it in unison, or at least close enough. It was such a fun experience!
Then we switched hotels the next day. Along the way we visited the Fushima Inari shrineAnd visited a monestary where we had a traditional Buddhist monk meal .
After lunch we visited a sumo training center and learned about sumo wrestling. There were a couple of wrestlers there that did a demonstration of the training they participate in and wrestled a few matches to show us how it's done. We even got to walk up on the douyo, which is the ring.
Now we're in the mountains. I'll pick up the travel log when I update my runs.7 -

New hotel, new area to run. We are in Takayama now, which is in the mountains. I had time for a short run before a very busy day. I basically ran the roads around the hotel and into some of the adjacent residential and farming areas. There is a lot of rice farming here. It was challenging because of the hills and the increase in elevation but the weather was a bit cooler. Still in the low 70's but a few degrees along with a drop in humidity makes a big difference.
We did a bike around Takayama later in the morning. Again, so grateful for the cooler temps.
Then we did a tasting tour of some local foods and sake. We also did a craft project, making a doll this area is known for called a sarubobo. I already packed mine up but I'll pull it out at some point as we prepare to go home and I'll take a picture of it.
We had dinner at a local restaurant famous for hida beef, which is from this area. I don't eat beef so can't say much about that but my chicken was delicious. Both the chicken and the beef were cut very thin and you cooked it yourself over these little individual grills.
No run tomorrow as we are switching hotels again tomorrow and heading to Tokyo. We get to take another bullet train!7 -

Happy Friday all! Hope the Crowdstrike/Microsoft debacle didn't affect anyone.
I have a family reunion tomorrow so I did my long run before work this morning. We got some rain yesterday and it really cooled things down. The temperature was great at 64F at the start with low humidity.
For those of you who track your runs on both Garmin and Strava, do you notice a significant difference in the pace Garmin gives you vs the pace that Strava gives you? For example, today Strava said my pace was 11:52/mile while Garmin said it was 11:58/mile. Yesterday, was a bigger difference. Strava was 10:54/mile while Garmin was 11:03/mile.
Love the beach and Tippy photos @quilteryoyo!
@Laurz9191 – What part of France are you visiting?
Glad you didn’t have any pain on your run this morning @Scott6255. Maybe your legs just needed a little rest.
@martaindale – what a cute and scrumptious looking bento box! (Not so sure about the monks meal.) The drumming sounds fun. Takayama is beautiful!

88.39/130 miles completed for July
I took yesterday as a rest day and then got out this morning for 6 miles. It was 72°F which was at least 10° cooler than Wednesday's run. I had a meeting at 8 this morning, so I actually got out the door at 5:30 this morning. That is always my goal, but lately I have been having a hard time getting out the door and it is usually around 5:50 before I get out. I don't know how anyone can get out to run 10 minutes after the alarm goes off. I can't usually get out of bed 10 minutes after the alarm much less out of the house. I have to hit snooze at least once.
Today's run was a pretty good. I saw a lady out running and a couple of people walking (besides the usual people at the park) and I saw my nephew. He is a cop and he drove past me and waved. Then he stopped a block or so away to pick someone up (another cop that is someone I went to high school with). I was coming up behind him when he turned his siren on. He quickly turned it off so I stopped to see what was up. He had inadvertently hit the button to turn it on. I think he was pretty embarrassed and he texted me later this morning to tell me his didn't do it on purpose. He does sometimes flash his lights at me when he is driving and he sees me, but he never turns on the sirens. It was a little before 6:00 am and I know he was worried about waking people up.
@quilteryoyo Tippy looks like she's having a great time! I hope you are too. I love the beach!
@martaindale Thank you so much for posting all of your Japan pictures! It looks like y'all are having a blast!
@Laruz9191 I hope you'll post some pictures from France. That is another place I'd like to see.

Another good run. The roads have got so busy with tourists so Dakota and I had to keep stopping and stepping into grass verge to let the cars pass on the narrow parts5 -
For those of you who track your runs on both Garmin and Strava, do you notice a significant difference in the pace Garmin gives you vs the pace that Strava gives you? .
@martaindale – what a cute and scrumptious looking bento box! (Not so sure about the monks meal.)
I have never seen that much of a difference. Maybe a second or two occasionally. I looked at my last few runs and they were the same in both Garmin and Strava. I wonder why yours is so different.
The monks meal was really good. It was vegan but with a lot of variety. The meal includes certain colors and 5 styles of cooking so it requires creativity. Not pictured was soup and an eggplant and tofu dish.4 -
@martaindale Thanks for sharing your trip with us. It looks like so much fun and you have been in some really beautiful spots and able to have a lot of cool experiences.
Great run today @Teresa502 . Enjoy your family reunion tomorrow. Maybe I don't know exactly how it works, but I thought my Strava was connected to my Garmin to get the activities. I really haven't noticed a difference in pace, but have noticed Strava shorts my runs/walks by a smidge.
@yirara Running in the heat will slow you down. You are doing great.
Thanks @kgirlhart . I am having a great time too. I just don't do selfie's very well. LOL You had a great early morning run. I'm sure your nephew was embarrassed by the accidental siren. I am with you on hitting the snooze. I usually hit mine for at least 30 min. I seem to nap so well between the alarms. LOL
Nice running @mari333a . Be careful out there.

I got up early this morning and Tippy and I went out for a fast mile walk - 15m23s. I brought her back to the room and then went out for a run. I ran/walked 2/1 min, mostly. It was a tough run, probably because the humidity was 94%. After a mile, I walked another 0.25 miles for cool down. I was pleased that my run was 12:08 min. Avg HR was 136 with a max of 153 bpm.
After breakfast at the BnB, I spent the day with the family. It was a great day and I got to meet my youngest step great grandson for the first time. He's such a happy baby. My heart was also warmed when the oldest great grandson yelled for Gran Vicky to watch him jump in the pool.
After I got back to the BnB, Tippy and I took a nice long stroll on the beach.
Breakfast - croissant stuffed with eggs, bacon, and cheese - also had a bowl of fruit
The youngest great grandson - Gavin
Tippy on the beach today. The surf was a bit rougher.

@Teresa502 is one basing pace on running time while the other is taking total elapsed time? That’s the only way I ever get a difference.4
-
A misplaced marshall at Parkrun meant a short course by about 350 metres. Subsequently I got a new PR count. I’m tempted to tell them to just add 2 minutes to my time otherwise it’ll be a year or more before I get a new PR.
After 12 hours of solid rain, it miraculously stopped for the event. But the weather definitely impacted numbers (the ginger ninja was missing). I nearly skipped it as it was hiding down at 7am, but I knew I’d have to head out regardless so best get it over with in a cheerful environment which comes with excellent coffee at the end.
My legs were tired, as expected following yesterday’s effort, but a girl on my tail pushed me to my limit on the final kilometre (I managed to hold her off, phew).6 -
@ContraryMaryMary I would want the extra 2 mins too. That's a lot of time to shave off so it would be less motivating for me than having a more attainable PR.
@quilteryoyo Tippy looks so happy by the beach!1 -
Neighborhood 1.33 Mile (at 12"21 pace). 80 day streak.
I felt pretty refreshed running. I actually was spinning out this week that I caught covid on Tuesday while shopping in the market...but it is just a slight case of hypochondria. ;( There is a big ramp up in my community right now.
My estimated Garmin VO2 finally climbed up into the 'good' range. VO2 ~ 37, it still shows my "fitness age" as +2 years over my age and it attributes it to excess weight.
Have a good weekend everyone.6 -
Morning all
Got in 7.0 @ 09"47
@quilteryoyo glad you're enjoying FL
@martaindale are you gonna experience the Tokyo nightlife at all? Heard it's amazing... Shibuya? Just looking at a mate's FB pics from a trip last year5
